Will DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 run on my 11,3 iMac if I upgrade to Mavericks?

Been holding off upgrading from 10.6 because of one app: DVD Studio Pro. I can't risk losing it. Will it run if I jump to Mavericks?
Using a mid-2010 iMac (11,3)
Thanks for your help!

The fun continues...
The DVD Drive on my 10.6 machine seems to no longer be working...
Maybe this caused/contributed to/resulted in the earlier problem?
Anyone else experiencing similar issues? All hard drives and firewire drives seem to be functioning normally at this time.
My 10.5 machine appears to be eating through the DVD writing process successfully... slowly, but successfully

  • Will DVD studio Pro convert Real Media

I have some real media clips and I want to convert them and burn them to DVD. Will DVD studio Pro convert them. IF they will how long will it take for 50 mins of video. Thanks

To convert RealVideo you will need to download a shareware tool named ffmpegX located at http://www.ffmpegx.com
When you venture down this path get your favorite beverage, and make sure you have plenty of time to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!
On the download page near the bottom you find will instructions and links that will eventually lead you to the libraries you need for RealVideo which have to be downloaded separately.
Once you d/l them, locate your ffmpegX support folder located at:
    systemHD>Library>ApplicationSupport>ffmpegX
    and install the libraries
You will then be able to convert RealVideo using the mencoder to something that's useable in DVDSP or FCP.
I have had extremely good results to date. Basically same old story... garbage in, garbage out. if the RealVideo is good or excellent quality you will get like results!
    Hope this helps! Post back.

  • Will DVD STUDIO PRO dvd's play on P.C.'s?

Will DVD STUDIO PRO created dvd's play on P.C.'s? If not how can I create projects that will play in DVD players on P.C.'s MAC's and in standard home DVD players?

In my experience (not big productions) all PC playback problems were related with the DVD playback software, and more specifically with customers trying to use Windows Media Player as DVD player.
Have you personnaly saw one of those machines? I mean, have you "see" by yourself a computer that can play comercial pressed DVDs and not your DVD-R discs?
You can ask to a confident customre with such problems to install the free and crossplataform VLC Player to check if he can play your disc using this software.
An after all your authoring/burning workflow can affect your discs, i.e. are you using labels? What brand of media are you using? What burning speed
are you using? . . . and so, and so.
    Hope that helps !

  • Will DVD Studio Pro 2 work with Quicktime 7.1.2?

    Greetings all ~
Recently purchased a secondhand (and legal!) copy of DVD Studio Pro to run on my G4 iMac running OS 10.3.9. The primary purpose is to burn occasional DVDs of short movie files I'm creating which are visually simple, but have surround sound audio imported from Deck.
When I went to install DVDSP2, I moved too fast and took the manual's advice of updating to the latest version of QT - in this case QT 7.1.2. But the key for QT that came with DVDSP2 is, I discovered, for use with QT6. And as I've learned from other threads, QT 7.1.2 appears to be the only version of QT for which Apple has not made available an uninstaller allowing you to revert to an early version of QT.
From those threads, it appears that one answer is to backup and reinstall OS 10.3.9 with its earlier verison of QT. I'd much much much rather avoid this given all the software I'd need to reinstall.
It would be well worth it to me to pay the $30 to upgrade and get a key to QTPro 7.1.2 — if I knew that it would work with DVDSP2. But from another (unanswered) thread, it looks like there may be compatibility issues.
So ...does anyone know definitively whether or not DVDSP2 will run properly with QT7.1.2 on OS 10.3.9?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Gary ~
Many thanks for this quick and helpful response. Unfortunately, that uninstaller doesn't seem to work with QT 7.1.2 ... it says it "will remove QuickTime 7.0.1" and when I try it on 7.1.2, which I now have, it tells me "You cannot install this software on this volume. This disk is dimmed because it does not contain an appropriate version of QuickTime."
Any other thoughts? Is my only option to reinstall 10.3.9 with its earlier version of QuckTime?
    Thanks again ...

  • Will DVD Studio Pro support dual layer media

I have a project that is 1 hour and 46 minutes long. DVD Studio Pro 2 has built the project but it reports that a 4.7 DVD will not hold the build. Other than the Data Meter, is there a way to find out how much the project is over 4.7? What are my options? Is it possible to lower the compression settings to get this to fit without sacrificing too much quality? Does DVD Studio Pro 2 support dual layer burning? Sorry about asking these questions, but I am on my laptop which does not have the program or help/manual and I would like to find out ASAP so I can order dual layer media if that will work.
How sketchy is playback of home burned dual media in ordinary DVD players?

You should be able to get your project on a DVD-5, you would need to adjust your encoding settings and depending on the footage you may not see a big hit (You can build the project to see how far over it actually is)
First if you have not made the audio AC3, do so, will save room
As to the video , take a look here for calculator
    http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
Usually I tweak a bit lower than the calulator. For instance if it says an average rate of 5.2, set you average to 5, chances are you will not see the differene between 5 and 5.2 and can save you reencoding heartache/headache down the road. Max rates really should not be higher than 7.4 or so - do not set max video rates to 9.636 as shown in the calculator. In theory it works, in practice can cause playback issues.

+R DL works fairly well DVD SP 2 did not support DL burning if I recall correctly, but if you have Toast you can burn from there.

  • Will dvd studio pro solve my disc playback problems?

    Hi folks-
I have to say I love my G5 and the very easy to use iDVD and Imovie apps. However I find that dvds I make will not play in many dvd players. This seems to be a known issue and I have tried various fixes without consistent results. Anyway, what I want to know, if anyone can tell me, is if upgrading to dvd studio pro will solve/help with this at all. As you all know it is very very disappointing to spend many hours and $$ creating a great video only to discover it is unplayable on random dvd players. It is also makes me look stupid, and I don't need any help in that regard.
    Thanks for your attention.

Need more details. Do they freeze and stutter or not do anything at all in these players?
If they freeze and stutter, are you sticking on labels? If so, this is most likely your problems. If they do nothing at all it could be a number of issues such as: bad drive, cheap media, etc.

  • Will DVD Studio Pro 4 work on dual 1.25 G4?

I need to get a version of DVD Studio Pro to author DVDs but I know it requires 10.4 (or 10.3.9 but you can't buy that) to run. I'm reading all of these horrific posts about how 10.4 is mutilating computers and so forth so I'm a little nervous. I also notice it requires a particular graphics card which I don't think i have. I'm not doing HD so is this card really necessary?
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

  • Will DVD studio pro convert PAL for an NTSC project

Greetings. I am trying to create NTSC showreels from material that was filmed and captured as PAL. Will importing the PAL asset into an NTSC DVD-SP project mean that it will then encode an NTSC MPEG. Or should I convert the original movie in FCP? I am looking for the solution that requires the least time, as these showreel are needed urgently in the states.
The reason I ask is that as a result of technical inexperience of my colleauges a whole hard drive of PAL assets has been sent to the states in order to make showreels for the production companies directors. This included master Showreel Projects which are in PAL. I am not sure of the best way to unf*£$k the situation but hoped it would be as simple as changing the Disc setting to NTSC. Thanks so much for your help. Also If you know of any sites which could help clear this up with information or software...
Sorry I realise this is a fundamental question
    Thanks again
    Peter Stenhouse

I'm afraid not. It may even be the case that if you have your project set to NTSC it won't import PAL assets (We do all our encoding outside of DVD-SP and if you try and import PAL m2v's into NTSC project it won't do it).
The PAL assets will need to be converted either professionally by a facilities house which time base correctors and all those doodads or you could try using something like Graeme Nattress's convertor for FCP
    http://www.nattress.com/standardsConversion.htm
never used them but heard they bare good (and not too expensive) though time consuming
It may be that you can do it directly in FCP but I seem to remember somewhere that it wasn't very satisfactory. At least you have the advantage that you have PAL resolution going to NTSC res and not the other way (which we have to deal with all the time in the UK - not hugely satisfactory)
    Hope this helps

  • Adj. audio levels - transparent to DVD Studio Pro

I've reviewed posts about audio levels and I understand it must be done outside DVD Studio Pro. I've run into several work-flow bumps that pose these questions...
When I use an app to raise or lower the audio level when I "Save As" or export to match the original parameters (48k, 16bit, Stereo, big endian) DVD Studio Pro will reject the new file (that has been used in the project already) with this error msg.... "file no longer uses a supported graphics format"
What is the fastest and most transparent way to change audio levels? (to aviod this rejection by DVD Studio Pro?) Ideally one would simply "Save" after the adjustment vs Save As or export.
On a related score, other apps allow you to substitute assets. So provided the running time and basic (audio) parameters are the same, can one do this in DVD Studio Pro?
In my haste for a solution in a simple dvd demo reel I was making I was willing to trash the pair of quicktime files (m2 & aiff) after manually purging them form the project, then re-importing and reassigning a new pair that included the adjusted audio. Even in a simple project this workaround was no fun. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
    Paul

As this "imported" file is the only thing in it, I'm not sure what multitrack means in this example but I'll experiment. When you say "editor in a new tab" I wish I understood what this "editor" tab is as it does not appear in the pdf manual. Is there another name for this tab-window? Exporting the multitrk proj would put me in the same mismatch pickle I was in to start with.
    Thanks,
    Paul
This is strange. Are you viewing it in a "multitrack"
project? Once double-clicked on, the file should open
in the editor under a new tab, which has the same
name as the file. In this editor you can perform
whatever is necessary. If this continues to fail, try
exporting the multitrack project with the same name
and file type as the original to replace it. That
will work also. Hope it works this time.

  • Dvd studio pro problem?

Hi everyone! If you can solve or even try to solve my problem in dvd studio pro i will be very gratefull.
I filmed a wedding on a jvc hm750 camera and edit this in FCP 6.0.6. The total time of the project is almost 6 hours with 7 chapters. I tried quicktime conversion in FCP with a file size 4 gig. when i drop this in dvd studio pro it becomes almost 50 gig. Also tried in compressor best dvd quality 120 minutes on sd dvd, with a file size of almost 12 gig. How can i solve this without losing to much quality on my footage.
What about the chapters in my project? When i import the file in dvd studio pro the chapters are visible, but will dvd studio pro automaticly burn the chapters on dvd? Please help me out, its keeping me busy now for 3 days in a row with no results.

You will need to break up the project in FCP. Set in and out points in your timeline and export the resulting chunks as Quicktime movies with current settings then run them through Compressor.
If you want to do a nicer job create 3 new sequences and put titles at the beginning and end of each segment. You can also break it up into more sequences/discs giving you the possibility to create meaningful parts and not just chop it off at the 2 hour mark.
Not my business but .... I'd cut it down to 90 minutes max. Who's going to watch all that?

  • Just installed DVD Studio Pro 2 in Power Book G4 Lap but I cant view Subtitles in the grew square while typing the text. I see the text in the Inspector but nothing appears in the grew square. Once finished the subtitle I run the sceen and see the subtitl

I see the text that I am typing in the Inspector Window but the grew square in the Monitor Window seemes empty. Creating the next subtitle I can even go to the one before click once over the subtitle, then click above to get the videoline tool over the subtitle and I will see the subtitle in the Monitor and editing the text in the Inspector I can see the changes in the Monitor. But as soon as I doble click the grew square appears and the text dissapears. Sin doubt the text is there because I can select the invisible text with "Apple"+"A", and then change fonts and sizes and it works. In Color settings I tried every posible combination of Mapping types, color and opacity. In DVD Preference I checked the subtitle  settings. The monitor text defaults work perfectly and double clicking texts in the Monitor window where a grew sqaure appears and the text is visible just works correctly. Somebody can help? Do I need to change some configuration in the LAP?

  • DVD Studio Pro 2 will not burn DVDs

I have recently upgraded to Leopard. I can now build an entire project in DVD Studio Pro 2. However, when I try to build, format, or build & format a DVD the application will "quit unexpectedly."
I contacted Apple support and was told to uninstall the program and re-install it. I did that and the problem still exists.
All of my software has been updated.
I understand the software is "older" but if it were unsupported software, why can I build an entire project and only have trouble when it comes to transferring it to a DVD?
My DVD superdrive has been upgraded, and I have burned photo DVDs and CDs with the new burner without any issues.
Does anybody know what else I can do?

    David,
I didn't mean to offend you with my frustration with Apple. I understand the need to upgrade operating systems. However, I don't believe that upgrading operating systems should make software obsolute. When Windows changes their operating systems, the programs you have installed on your PC will continue to work.
Leopard is many interations passed the OS that DVD SP came out and you would have the same issues in Windows with what software runs or not and usually Mac software has a pretty good lifetime. DVD SP has not been sold as stand alone for quite awhile unfortunately. Though I do have some issues with Apple from time to time, this is one of those where I cannot fault them.
Try Tiger (I am running PS3 on 10.4.11 MacBook Pro with no issues), but make sure to deauthorize your Photosshop 3 before doing anything on the sytem. As to Leopard, I am not a big fan yet, so unless you absolutely need it, you are not missing much yet.
