Will dynamic global hostnames ever work properly again?
AEBS firmware 7.4.1 broke dynamic dns updating. Any attempt to set it up now simply results in TSIG errors.
7.4.2 didn't fix it.
Has anyone gotten signed dynamic DNS updates working on recent firmware revs of the AEBS?
Will this feature ever work properly again???

I understand your discontent. I can assure you that all software updates developed by the manufacturer are intended to make your phone work better. Since you have done a Factory Reset and your phone continues to experience performance issues after you installed your applications, I recommend running your phone in Safe Mode for a while to ensure that no third party application conflicts exist. If your phone works properly in Safe Mode then a third party application conflict is causing your phone to malfunction and the conflicting application must be identified and removed from your phone.
There is no easy way to identify a conflicting 3rd party application, the only way is to remove all applications and add one by one and test until the conflicting app is identified and then removed for good.

Will my Incredible ever work properly again?
I have devoted endless time and energy to trying to get my phone to work since the system updates started appearing. I should note that I am not a techie, I don't enjoy fiddling with electronics, and I can't follow many of the fixes that people have posted. I just want my phone to work as reliably as it used to! The issues I have experienced have been well documented in every discussion group I have visited. Some -- but not all of these included: false warnings about memory shortages, phone turning off, voice searches not working while in the car, gmail not working on phone. When I tried deleting music and pictures and then restarting the phone, I got stuck in one of those endless "DROID!" startup loops. I made an emergency trip to a Verizon store, and the salesman said that my phone had never received the update properly -- thus the repeated smaller update messages -- and a factory reset would fix that issue. He did get the update to install; but, of course, I then had to reinstall all my apps, preferences, etc. Since then, gmail and voice searches are working again, but I continue to have strange and frustrating problems. The radio shuts off at random, which it never used to. For about a week, even the phone qua phone would not work. I could not dial a number by touching a contact or a listing in my call record. I had to go into View contact and select the number I wanted. That's what I had to do on my old "stupid" phone. Three days ago, without any intervention, the phone started to behave normally again. But then about 36 hours ago all my pictures and music vanished from the phone without a trace. WHAT's NEXT?! This phone is supposed to make my life easier; instead it has became an anxiety-provoking pain. FYI: I have software number 4.08.605.2 and Android Version 2.3.4

Will "File Save As" ever work properly in Safari?
Even though I've been a long-time Safari user (with occasional dalliances with Firefox) this has always been a personal bugbear...
In general, I like the way that Safari will play an mp3 file in the browser window. And then I have a choice... if there's a link to an mp3, I can right-click or ctrl-click and select "download file as". Fine.
But...
If the mp3 was launched via another app (clicking a link in Mail, for example) I can only play it in the browser window. I can't save it, because File > Save As simply results in a meaningless 4KB file landing on my desktop. Even worse, that option seems to be greyed out on Safari 4 Final.
This has always been the case with Safari, but it works fine on Firefox. Why?Safari Menu Bar > Window > Open the Activity window and the Download window. Copy the MP3 that is downloading (playing) in the Activity window and paste into the Download window. Videos too.

Wide-Area Bonjour / Dynamic Global Hostname
Hello everyone
I have a very specific problem, My AEBS is not sending UPDATE requests to my own DNS server when my DSL IP address changes over time.
I have my own DNS server and run a dynamic zone with TSIG aututhentication.
If I configure the "Dynamic global hostname" on my Macs behind my AEBS acting as a NAT gateway, they will register themselves withe the correctly natted address.
In fact, this is amazing and works very well:

airport.dyn.secret.domain has address xx.yy.177.175
I can force the update by restarting my AEBS, but this is not a good workaround.
Has anyone else experience running a wide-area bonjour DNS server?

Airport Extreme -Dynamic Global Hostname-
Is somebody using the "Use Dynamic Global Hostname" ( under Internet/Internet Options ) with "No-Ip.com" ?
I learned that DynDNS doesn't supprt this so I am wondering if No-Ip does.
Thanks.I was wondering if DynDNS supported this because I have used No-Ip and it apparently does not. Or at least it is an undocumented feature if it does. No-Ip does have an updater application that you run on your computer which will update the ip address on their site. This is fine for most uses.
What I have gleaned from searching is that DynDNS did support using that setting until Apple removed wide-area Bonjour from the Airport Utility software interface. However the latest version still includes the settings. So I was thinking that perhaps it would still work for the purpose of updating your dns. One thing I have noticed is that some posts here suggest the user and password are of the DynDNS account itself, whereas on the DynDNS site I have seen a support document which suggests that you need to provide a Transaction Signature. Something which has to be created from your account on their site. -
Do some ISPs pick up the dynamic global hostname (global Bonjour)?
Wouldn't it be nice if ISPs would pick up the dynamic global hostname (aka global Bonjour) and feed it via 'mybonjourname.provider.com' to their DNS servers?
As long as one knows one's ISP and leaves the computer (or Time Capsule or AEBS) always connected to the same ISP, one would not need any dynamic DNS service. Particular since it is a bit difficult to get a dynamic DNS client run on a Time Capsule not connected to a computer...Background: I recently purchased a MacBook Pro (MBP) and a Time Capsule (TC) installed at home. I use the TC for back-ups, as well as a home server to store music, photographs, personal and work archives of information. I want to be able to access the content that I have inside my TC from anywhere. I have three Apple laptops, all of them with a family dot.mac account, however, they may not be on or at home at all times, therefore my challenge is to be able to access the TC content from anywhere when only the TC is ON and no other laptops may be on. Unfortunately only Macs can use and update the dot.mac with the Back to my Mac (BTMM) feature, and the TC does not have a way to use BTMM by itself. The Airport Extreme (AE) and the TC the same (or very similar) router software modules built-in. Most routers have a built-in way to enter a dynamic IP or DNS updater (global bonjour). The dot.mac is one such global DNS updaters, but it does not use an open architecture. Another global DNS updater is DynDNS. I opened a DynDNS account, and in the TC I turned ON file sharing and in Airport > Time Capsule > Edit I entered the DynDNS information. If the global bonjour updater functioned well, this last action should instruct the TC to keep my DynDNS account informed of its IP address at all time. This would allow me when on travel to go to the web page of my DynDNS account, visualize the current IP address of my TC, click on it or cut and paste in the"Go to Server", and this would automatically mount the TC Hard Disk on my Desktop. However this is not working as planned. The software of the Time Capsule accepts the global bonjour account of DynDNS but fails to update it with its current IP address, as a result, the DynDNS knows the first IP address when you first program it, but as soon as the IP address of the TC changes it stops working (and this could be a matter of minutes, hours, days or weeks). I have used Linkys and DLink routers in the past, and they have worked flawlessly with DynDNS and other IP Updaters. However, I have never been able to use the TC IP updater features reliably.
+The issues:+ (a) Airport Extreme (AE) and Time Capsule (TC) router software modules have a global bonjour feature that is not working well with DynDNS and do not update it when its IP address changes. (b) There is no way to program a dot.mac account on the AE or TC and use dot.mac BTMM feature to access the disks mounted on the AE or TC without invoking another computer with dot.mac; By other words, if we want to access remotely (outside our LAN, via the internet) a disk connected to our AE or TC, we must have a Mac in the same LAN with either a dot.mac account or a DynDNS account, otherwise we are unable to find its IP address to access the TC directly.
As far as I know, until Apple updates the AE or TC software to either use dot.mac or reliably update an IP updater like DynDNS, we will not be able to reliable access a TC remotely without another Mac in the same LAN doing the IP updating. If anyone can shed some additional light on this issue I will appreciate if. -
Domain hosting provider that supports Dynamic Global Hostname?
Is there any domain hosting provider that supports dynamic DNS of the variety that supports "dynamic global hostname" used by Mac OS X, accessed in the Sharing control panel, and used by AirPort Express and Time Machine? I am referring to the Dynamic DNS method specified by IETF RFC 2136.
Any VPS provider will give you full control over your BIND installation.

What is "Dynamic Global Hostname" in Internet Options? Is it DDNS?
If you have an Airport Extreme or a Time Capsule with updated firmware you will find "Use dynamic global hostname" in: Airport Utility > Internet tab > Internet options. There is literally no Apple provided documenation on this setting within the device's user manual, instructions, or online support. The only documenation you will find are on various blogs and forums such as this one. So, here is a screenshot of the setting and my questions below:
1. I'm assuming that this is where I can setup Dynamic DNS if I have an account with a DDNS provider such as DynDNS or NoIP. Is this correct?
2. If this is where I can setup DDNS, then what should the hostname be? Should it be the hostname I have setup with a DDNS provider, like this: MySite.DDNS.com? Or, should the hostname include my device's actual hostname, like this: TimeCapsule.MySite.DDNS.com?
3. For the "User" and "Password" fields, should this be the account that I have with the DDNS provider? If yes, then what is the format of the username.. is it just my DDNS account username: "MyAccount"? Or, should it be: [email protected]?
I'm trying to setup DDNS because I'd like to have remote SSH access to several of my Linux systems on my network and I don't want to configure a DDNS client on the Linux systems if the Time Capsule can do it. This is because my Time Capsule will always be online but my Linux systems are not always online.
Thanks for any help with this setting! It is definitely strange because "Dynamic Global Hostname" is not an "industry standard" term. Typically, it is called "Dynamic DNS" instead. So that's why I'm trying to figure out what this setting really is and if it can help me with my DDNS and remote access needs.Did some digging, found this article http://dyn.com/support/bonjour-and-dns-discovery/. Step 4 has something interesting to say:

Can I exchange for a new laptop? Since December it has been having hardware issues and it has already needed to get parts changed twice already. My laptop is not working properly again. I feel like I have unfortunately gotten a lemon laptop.
Apple will repair or replace at its discretions, parts found to be defective in materials or workmanship.
You will have to discuss whether your history warrants a complete replacement with the folks at the Genius Bar.
I do not speak for Apple, but it sounds to me like you have been unlucky, but not unlucky enough (or have spent so much time with your MacBook in the shop) to warrant a complete replacement.
You have not provided any details of what the faults were or what was replaced. If they replaced the motherboard, you already got a new computer -- because everything except the drive and the display is on that board. -

As is standard now... Apple has taken something that should be easy, and turned into something that CAN NOT BE DONE AT ALL. See the note below from DynDns, Airport changed the firware so this doesn't work. Usually when this happens it is not a mistake, it is "Removal of Functionality" ( see: SNMP which is also gone )
Apple won't support normal DynamicDns like every other router manufacturere in the world. And their alternative is "Dynamic Global Hostname"... which no longer works.
Now what is my option Apple?? None?.... yeah that's what i thought.

WAP4410N - Will these ever work properly?
I have owned one of these for about 2 years now, and have sold many of these to clients. Luckily, none of them get used too much as they require constant rebooting, and it would appear as though all versions of the firmware are unreliable. Some simply don't work, other work for a day or two at a time between reboots.
Does anyone have a solution to getting these to work properly? When I say properly, I mean, you turn it on, configure it and then use it. That's it. No rebooting, not even once a year.
Anyone?I have 3 x WAP4410N and had lots of issues. Now they are stable. I think it's the settings below in BOLD that count.
But I did first reset the unit to factory settings; upgrade firmware; restart; and then enter all settings MANUALLY. All as per Cisco instructions. Do not just install the fw over the old fw; and do not import your settings. But I don't think any of this made any difference, but do it anyway for sure.
Here is my config. Anything not mentioned has not been enabled. Settings in BOLD are important I think - and are settings folks have mentioned that have solved issues for them. YMMV.

I turned on my computer and before I could start firefox it said it was updating. When it said it had finished updating and there were no error messages indicating that the update had failed. When I opened firefox it pulled up the last tabs I had open before closing the program. None of the tabs functioned properly and gave me "unable to connect" errors even when I opened new tabs, no matter what the website was. Everything worked properly in internet explorer. I tried restarting my computer and firefox, troubleshooting, restoring firefox, uninstalling and then reinstalling firefox, checking my firewall and the problem persists. I've tried changing my proxy settings according the articles on the support page but nothing has worked. How should I fix this? Firefox is my favorite browser I would hate to give it up.

Also possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Flash Player will not upgrade/install and work properly
I have been being promted to download the Flash Player on numerous websites before the application or game will actually play.
Each and every time I go through their link to upgrade to the correct version of Flash, it upgrades and installs properly, but when I re-launch the program I was trying to use I ge the SAME MESSAGE to download Flash Player again, and of course it still does not work.
Is this because I am using their free version of Flash Player and actually need to purchase another version to get these very small applications to run.

the when i go to, lets say gmail, it will open but when i try to look at an e-mail, it won't load.In the bar at the top of the screen a msg shows (in Dutch) saying" firefox reageert niet" (firefox is not responding).
All I can do is close FF and when I start it again it opens with a window asking me to start a new session or open the latest session.
No matter what choice I make the outcome is the same. I can open 0ne page , and then get the same msg as before.
I ran several anti virus programs as well as Mall and Spy-ware killers,restarted the computer, started the computer from a point in the past, nothing helped.
As this went on I was able to use Explorer.
As a last resort I re-installed FF3.6.16
Now everything seems to work again.
But in the two weeks I worked with FF4 it worked really nice, therefore I'd really like to be able to to use FF4

There are others jmf player projects in internet. Take a look at them and test they can play your problematic files. But i think its a jmf bug.
