Will easing time capsule/machine drive erase time capsule/machine trash

will easing time capsule/machine drive erase time capsule/machine trash which will not delete

Not sure exactly what you are asking here.
If you erase the Time Capsule drive, all previously stored data on the drive will be wiped clean.
The Time Capsule drive will be in the same condition that it was in when it was new, and you had not yet backed up any data to the drive.
Is that what you want to accomplish?

Is there  way to store and run my iMovies on my Time Capsule instead of laptop drive? I will then run an external drive to backup Time Capsule as my backup.  I want to dothis because my hard drive is full and I still have many movies to import form camcorder.

I do not know about iMovie, but the experts in the iPhoto and Aperture support areas strongly advise against trying to install your "working" image library on the Time Capsule.
You might want to ask about this in the iMovie support area.
    iMovie for Mac
It would be much easier and much better if you use the external drive to connect to your Mac via USB or FireWire and then store the movies there.
Then, Time Machine will back up both your Mac and the external hard drive automatically once you tell it to do so.

  • HT201250 Will using Time Machine on my external drive, reformat or wipe my external drive?

I need to backup my whole computer, and was wondering if I can do this with Time Machine using my external hardrive. The problem is, that I am using this same external hardrive for other things and I don't want to lose that data. Will using Time Machine wipe my external hardrive? Apple did not make it so clear in their guide on using Time Machine, but I have a feeling that it must reformat the hardrive. If my hunch is correct, is their any other way I can backup my computer using an external hardrive without having to wipe it? I was thinking about just dragging Macintosh HD into a folder on my hardrive and letting the file transfer. What are the downsides of doing this?
NOTE: Don't know if this makes a big difference, but I am running OS X 10.8.3

If the drive is not formatted correctly for Time Machine, then it will have to format it. But, it won't do that automatically. It will ask if you want to use that disk for Time Machine when you attach it.
You can have Time Machine on a drive with other data. See Pondini's Time Machine FAQ: http://pondini.org/TM/3.html

I cannot load Maverick on my iMac HD.  It reports that my HD is used for Time Machine backups and will not load to that drive.  I do not use this drive for backups.  I use an external 1 TB WD My Book for backups as well as Super Duper Backups. Can anyone offer advice.   Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You have got the "Backups.backupdb" folder in the root level of your hard drive. This is the folder used by Time Machine to save backups to, and the OS X Mavericks installer thought that your hard drive is being used to store Time Machine backups
To fix this, open a Finder window, select the Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type:
Then, delete "Backups.backupdb" and empty the Trash. Finally, open the Mavericks installer from the Applications folder and follow the steps

  • If I have a prob upgrading to SL, will my Time Machine be able to fix it?

Forgive my ignorance here but I'm a fairly new Mac user. I currently have Leopard on my Mac and I purchased the Snow Leopard upgrade. I'm aware that there is an option to simply upgrade the OS while keeping all your files and applications in place and not doing a complete wipe of the hard drive. That is what I want to do, a simple upgrade, not a full wipe. Here's my concern: should anything go wrong with the install or I lose some info, will I be able to restore everything from my Time Machine? Is the Time Machine a full back up of everything on my Mac so that nothing will be lost? Will my Time Machine be able to restore my old files on the new OS (Snow Leopard) or would I have to uninstall SL and reinstall Leopard so that I could restore from the Time Machine? Its a lot of questions, sorry, just want to be sure before I upgrade.

    in principle, yes.
Is the Time Machine a full back up of everything on my Mac so that nothing will be lost?
    yes.
Will my Time Machine be able to restore my old files on the new OS (Snow Leopard)
    yes.
or would I have to uninstall SL and reinstall Leopard so that I could restore from the Time Machine?
no, that's not necessary. you can do a full system restore from TM. boot from your Snow leopard (or leopard) install DVD and select "restore system from backup" from the utilities menu. this will wipe the hard drive and restore your system from the TM backup. However, TM is pretty buggy and this procedure is known to fail sometimes. therefore a bootable clone is a better backup in this situation as the other poster suggests. you can make one using superduper or cccloner. boot from the clone to make sure it works. THEN you can safely upgrade.

  • Will a time capsule help?

I have a Mac air from 2009 and I want to move to maverics. I have no way to back up my drive so I bought a time capsule (it won't be shipped for like 3 days). I have like 2gb available on my 120gb drive on the Mac air. My question is will the time capsule free up space... or only mirror my 118sh gb data on my HD thus buying a TC pointless? Can I just keep all my video footage stored on the TC to remove it off of my max air??? Please and thank you
    Daniel

Not sure I understand your question.  The Time Capsule is for your backup copies of data.
If you move all of your video footage on the MacBook Air to the Time Capsule....and then delete the video footage data from the MacBook.....the only copy of your video footage will be on the Time Capsule.
How will you back up the data on the Time Capsule?
Answer.....you will have to add yet another hard drive to back up the video on the Time Capsule......unless you want to gamble and not have a backup.  That's a huge gamble if your data is valuable.
A better plan might be to add a USB or FireWire drive to the MacBook Air and move your video data over to that drive. That will free up space on the MacBook Air.
Then, the Time Capsule will back up everything on your MacBook Air and the hard drive attached to the MacBook Air. So, you have "original" copies of your data at one location and backups of that important data at another location.
When....not if...a drive fails, you at least have a spare copy on another drive.

will my time capsule do the job or do i need another modem?
The Time Capsule is only a router...with a built in hard drive. It does not have a modem built in, so you will need to use a separate modem with your new calbe service.
If the cable provider offers a modem with their service it would be good idea to use that device, as you know that it will be supported by your provider in the event of any Internet connection difficulties.
If the provider does not offer a modem, I am sure that they have a list of compatible modems on their website, or check with customer support for more information.

  • With multiple devices (.g, .n, .ac) will the Time Capsule degrade to the lowest speed, or will each run at the highest rate it is capable of?

With multiple devices (.g, .n, .ac) will the Time Capsule degrade to the lowest speed, or will each run at the highest rate it is capable of?

    Highest rate capable.
Things may slow down a bit if you have a number of wireless devices connected simultaneously, since they must all share the same network bandwidth.

Lost SMTP password.... will using time machine reset old password and allow me to use email server again?
I can backup all new files on ext. drives

It won't.  Time Machine doesn't interact with the EFI hardware (the successor to the BIOS, if that helps), which is where Firmware Passwords are set up.
    HTH.

  • How will the Time Capsule support IPv6 and coop with the new emerging security threats that will emerge due to the new technical possibilities that IPv6 provide?

How will the Time Capsule support IPv6 and coop with the new emerging security threats that will emerge due to the new technical possibilities that IPv6 provide?

    Cross your fingers and hope.
Obviously if there is any big or known threat Apple will send out a firmware fix.
But the TC is designed to be end user simple device. It has no firewall that is visible at any rate. I don't know that it truly doesn't have a firewall but it is not part of the end user controls.
IMO if you have major security concerns that go beyond end device firewall, which is where Apple do put most of the security, since firewall in the router is plainly not a stop to anybody deliberately downloading an infected file or website, and most end users.. do not want a firewall that prevents them using the web like a business does, where only certain ports are allowed. Everything else tough luck.. you are not allowed to use it. Then TC is unsuitable for you anyway.. buy a proper firewall appliance.

  • Will the time capsule work the bt home hub 3

Will my time capsule work with the bt home hub 3

Apple products work in a huddle with themselves.. all others are excluded so no you cannot wireless repeat if that is what you mean.
In bridge though the TC can work as a WAP.. as can every wireless router ever made. You must connect to the home hub by ethernet. Then set the wireless manually and use the same network name, ie SSID, and security settings and password.. but you need to use a different wireless channel. You can then roam with any wireless devices..and they should connect to the strongest signal. In reality it doesn't work 100% and I think it is easier to use a different SSID and know what you are connecting too, but that is up to you.
