Will elements 9 recognize more than 4gb ram?

why does elements 9 only show 4gb ram when my system (window 7 professional) has 12 gb & how do I get it to recognized it?

To follow up on 99jon's post, 2 to the 32nd power is 4.3Gb.  Therefore, PSE will not be able to see more than 4Gb.  Win7 will do a great job of managing the installed memory, so there's nothing for you to do but relax and run your applications.

  • If my Mini is running 64 bit can I run more than 4Gb RAM?

I hear ALL over the place that the mini can not use more than 4Gb RAM.
Is this a hardware limitaion of the motherboard/Processor?
    OR
Is this due to the fact that mini's run at 32 bit?
You can now easily run modern mini's at 64 bit:
    http://blog.leanopen.nl/2010/04/23/doesnt-your-mac-mini-want-to-boot-in-64-bit/
So who knows the REAL answer?
    Thanks -
    skibum

Most of the Minis are limited to less than 4GB and that is a hardware limitation. The newest Mini with the nVidia video can access more. Apple only supports 4GB because they use matched DIMMs, which on paper have a slight performance improvement over unmatched DIMMs. For whatever reason, Apple doesn't yet support 4GB DIMMs in the Mini. (I suspect that the power requirements or prices for the larger DIMMS may have affected Apple's decision.)
If you do have an appropriate Mini, then you can get compatible 4GB DIMMs from [Macsales|http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini> or others. Regardless, although I normally trust Macsales, more than 4GB is not supported by Apple, so you have to take that in to consideration. (i.e.: warranty from Apple or Applecare.)

  • Does MacBook Pro need more than 4gb ram to run osx lion?

Machine is mid 2009, 4gb ram, 2.26 ghz processor.   Since installing the operating system update and updates to iPhoto, most programs take a longer to load than originally.  I have plenty of hard drive space available for virtual memory.
I have priced up adding ram, but want to be sure before I spend the money.

I think it is safe to say, yes Lion requires more RAM to run and maintain the OS compared to your previous Snow Leopard or Tiger.  But still 2 GB of RAM is advertised as the minimum requirement.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4949
The new Mavericks does seem to manage memory better however the RAM requirement is the same.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842
RAM is considered your best bang for the buck,  if you do decide to upgrade.

  • More than 4GB RAM support likely with current MB/MBPs?

Sorry to post again, but I'm a bit worried about the 4GB limit the MB and MBP seem to have.
Most deals only include models with 2GB of RAM, even MBP. I think I can live with 2GB of RAM for a year, but would probably want to upgrade after that to 8GB when the RAM is likely a third the current price. The extra RAM is useful for VMWare Fusion, as well as graphics, video, and audio apps.
I am worried about buying a product, that for whatever reason, is limited to 4GB. Anyone know if this is a hardware issue that cannot be fixed, or software, perhaps since Leopard isn't fully 64-bit yet, that will likely be fixed in Snow Leopard?

    Found these: http://blogs.computerworld.com/nvidiasays_new_macbook_pro_can_do_8gb_ofram
    http://www.appletell.com/apple/comment/the-4gb-ram-limit-of-the-new-macbooks-is- semi-accurate/
among others. nVidia insists the chipsets are capable of 8GB, and OS X recognizes 8GB, just doesn't use it properly. Hope they fix this and that it's not done intentionally to force an earlier computer upgrade in the future, since, predictably, 4GB will most likely be the minimum for new laptops in 2 years.

  • Is there any way to upgrade my mid-2007 imac to more than 4GB RAM?

From what i've read it sounds like 4GB RAM is the most that my iMac is capable of using, but i' m hoping that isn't true. even though it operates plenty fast for my current needs, it would always be nice to have the option. any info will be appreciated. thanks.

  • More than 4GB RAM in 2008 Macbook Pro 17"?

Does anyone know of a way to get the 2008 Macbook Pro 17" to be able to recognize 8GB RAM instead of the maximum spec of 4GB? Or is it simply a hardware limitation of the board?

When a Mac has RAM-related problems, the most common manifestations are 1) failure to boot, accompanied by some number of beeps on startup, and 2) kernel panics. Other symptoms are possible, but these are the ones you're most likely to see.
If you do experience any trouble with 6GB of RAM installed, remove and replace the 4GB module you've installed with the original 2GB module you removed, then repeat as exactly as possible the sequence of operations that led up to the problem. Yes, it may be very hard if not impossible to reconstruct that sequence, particularly if you've been running the computer for a long time when the problem suddenly arises. Still, it's worth trying, to see whether the problem still occurs with the original RAM in place. If it does, you obviously can't blame it on 6GB of RAM. If it doesn't, perhaps you can; further testing is probably in order if you have the time and energy to do it. If you don't, you may want to return the RAM and just get along with 4GB and a stable, dependable computer. Any vendor from whom you will want to consider buying RAM will give a lifetime warranty on it and will explicitly warrant that it's Mac-compatible. Buy from such a vendor and you shouldn't have any trouble returning it if it doesn't work out for you.
It's also possible that 6GB will work just fine for you except when you try to run some particular app or combination of apps. In that case, you'll have to decide whether you can live with that limitation.

  • 2010 Macbook pro is running slow in Mavericks.  Do I need more than 4gb ram?

My late 2010 13" 2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro is running slow since upgrading to Mavericks.  I currently only have 4gb of ram.  When I boot up It takes quite awhile (nearly 5 minutes or more) before the system is usable.  Or it takes almost as long to switch to another user.  Once I let it sit, it runs fine.  I'm mostly using Safari and possibly MS Word at any given time.  I looked at the Activity monitor and I believe I'm using aboiut 3.6 - 3.9gb of physical memory and over 4gb of virtual memory.  Swap is using 0 at all times.
Do I need more RAM?  Wipe my drive and do a fresh install?  I'm reluctant to do the latter, because I don't want to have to reinstall all of my apps (even witha TM backup).
    Thanks all

    Thanks Linc for any help-

  • Audigy 2 ZS with Windows 7 64-Bit and more than 4GB of RAM

    Hello,
I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit and I have installed 8GB RAM. I installed the latest Beta driver and I'm not able to use my microphone. It doesn't recognize any input at all. As soon as I remove 4GB RAM so only 4 GB RAM remain everything works as expected. The microphone problem is only there when you have more than 4GB RAM installed. Is there any driver or workaround to make the microphone work again?
    I don't want to
use another version of Windows 7<
    reduce my RAM<
    use onboard sound<
I hope you can help me or at least tell me if (and when) Creative wants to fix this.
    Thank you. Kind regards
    T3rm

No solution from me, but I just wanted to chime in because I have the same problem and I'd like to explain it in detail. I've actually had this problem with Vista 64-bit (6GB of RAM) for the past 2 years. It's a very flaky/random problem, where about 40% of the time the microphone worked fine, 20% where I would get minor crackling (turns my voice into a robot voice), 20% with MAJOR crackling, and 20% where the microphone didn't work at all. When it would either crackle or stop working, I would usually restart the computer. After the computer booted up again, it would work fine 95% of the time (I very rarely had to reboot it twice in a row). However, it would randomly change states (between the four listed above) throughout the duration of the computer staying on. And, it would usually progress in the direction of "being more and more broken". For example:
.) Wake up, turn on my computer. Everything works fine.
2.) Go to class, come back. Now the microphone crackles.
3.) Do some homework, eat dinner. Now the microphone doesn't work at all.
I was excited when the SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00.exe update came out in July so I can finally get a consistent working microphone in a 64-bit version of Windows. Then everything came together last week, when I got a copy of Windows 7 64-bit Professional from my school. I tried the drivers and....FAIL. Pretty much the same thing, but different percentages/tendencies than listed above for Vista.
I just found this on another thread which highlights some useful information:
Microphone issues on Windows 7/Vista 64-bit (x64) with 4GB?of RAM or more
Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, resulting in random issues with the Microphone (static, robotic or distorted voice, white noise).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows
    - limit the RAM available to Windows to less than 4GB
    - enable Memore Hole in BIOS Setup, if?your motherboard supports the setting
Haha, why even release a 64-bit "compatible" driver when it doesn't even work right in 64-bit operating systems? Should I not expect a proper driver and buy an Asus Xonar instead?

  • MSI MS-7200 945G Express will not recognize more than 3 GB

Hello, I just got the MSI board with the Intel 945G chipset, I put in 4x1 GB sticks of RAM, but the BIOS and Windows will not recognize more than 3 GB even though in the specs it says it supports 4 GB. When I use 3 Sticks, the RAM the BIOS displays is 3072MB, with 4 sticks, it displays 3196 MB. I upgraded to the latest BIOS and drivers. Am I missing something? or is this the way it supposed to be?
    Thanks

You need to use XP 64 bit to have it recognize more than 3-3.5 gigs.
Windows xp home and pro are 32 bit limited.  They can see only 3.5 gigs even though you really have 4.  You also will only be able to allocate a max of 2 gigs per process in windows xp home and xp pro.
To beable to see 4 gigs, and alocate more than 2 gigs per proccess you have to run a 64 bit OS. IE windows xp pro 64bit version or windows server 2003 64 bit version.(same thing).

  • More than 4GB of RAM in iMac 8,1 under Snow Leopard

    Greetings,
I have an iMac 8.1, running under Snow Leopard in 64bits mode (i.e. kernel is in 64 bits). I am wondering if I can install - and use - more than 4GB of RAM now that my iMac is booting in 64bits mode?
    Thank you for your help!

"32 bits mode" does not limit Mac OS X to 4GB or 6GB. Mac Pros could go up to 32GB of RAM, even when they were first introduced with Tiger (10.4) as the OS.
The current iMacs use the 32-bit kernel by default (to maintain compatibility with third-party extensions that have not been upgraded yet). However, it is fully capable of running 64-bit processes (system processes and applications) and using as much RAM as the Mac in question is capable of using, whether that is 4GB, 6GB, 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB.
So to summarize, the RAM limit is based on the hardware, not the software. This isn't like Windows, where 32-bit Windows has a usable RAM limit of somewhere between 3 and 4GB.

  • Oracle 9,2.0 32 bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB?

I am sorry to ask rather stupid question.
I joined company which has big SUN Fire running Solaris 9 64bit version.
It has system memory 16GB and 8 CPUs.
I found 8GB memory reported as free. It is production box. It is heavy loaded.
I guess Kernel parameter settings for Oracle set too low.
I reported DBA and asked DBA to improve.
My DBA said Oracle 32 bit version was installed and Oracle 32bit can't access more than 4GB system memory.
Is it true that Oracle 9.2.0 32bit for Solaris can not access more than 4GB memory?
32bit CPU and 32bit OS might have problem in access big memory.
But I never heard Oracle 9 running on 64bit Solaris box can not access more than 4GB.
Specially on Sparc 64bit chip and Solaris 9 64bit version.
I searched forums and could not find good answer. I believe it is rather obvious.
Please help me on this. I will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I was really surprised by the fact that almighty
ORACLE can not access 4GB memory.
So, it is true that 32bit Oracle is limited by 4GB RAM.Nope. 32bit almighty anything is limited to (max) 2^32 virtual adresses on a vmm system.
Often there is also some split where memory is divided into system and user areas, where user (program) has e.g. 2 or 3GB. All this works regardless of amount of RAM available 0.5 or 512GB.
Perhaps this link provides some useful info/background.

  • Problems deploying Windows 7 x64 computers with more than 8GB RAM

    SCCM 2012 R2 CU1
    Windows 7 x64
We have a weird problem after upgrading from SP1 to R2 CU1. We have built a Windows 7 64 bit image with the latest updates (currently September 2014 updates). It deploys fine to all computers. But after some days – don’t know exactly – guess after 4-7 days
    - we start getting errors on computers with more than 8 GB of RAM. The errors just start out of the blue. We didn't change TS, image or driver package.
The error shows in 3 different ways – depending of the computer model.
    1) BSOD – STOP 0x000000F4. Disk error.
    2) Task Sequence error 0x87D00269 when installing the first Application in TS. The error seems to have something to do with Management Point not found.
    3) Task Sequence simply stops after installing CMclient. No errors - it simply stops.
For instance we get the BSOD on the Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p. But on the ThinkCentre M83 we get the TS error 0x87D00269. M93p and M83 uses the same driver package. They consequently  fail every time after the error has begun. If we reduce (remove physically)
the memory to max. 8GB of RAM, they successfully run the Task Sequence.  We get the above errors on both Lenovo and HP machines with more than 8GB.
I made a copy of the production TS and started testing. I created a new driver package for M93p/M83. It contains only the NIC drivers. Now M93p an M83 successfully finishes the TS. Adding sata or chipset or MEI/SOL drivers to the package I get the 0x87D00269
error on both m93p and M83. At least not the BSOD on the M93p ;-)
Tried setting  SMSTSMPListRequestTimeout to 180 in the TS. Also tried putting in a 5 minute break before installing the first Application in the TS. Also tried putting in SMSMP=mp1.mydomain in the installation properties for the CMclient. It is still
    the same problem.

    you have not previously used.
Hopefully this is a bug in translating the errorcodes? Just to be sure I checked all the SCCM serviceaccounts and none of them have expired passwords.  And again why only on computers with more than 8GB RAM.
Anyone else had problems rolling computers with more than 8GB og RAM?
Why does this happens after a few days? To begin with, it runs just perfect and then starts failing on all machines with more than 8GB. Without a change in TS, image and driverpackage. We have seen this pattern for the last 3 month after
updating our image with the latest Windows Updates. It all started after updating from SP1 to R2 CU1.
Why does it only affect machines with more than 8GB RAM?
How to get rid of the 0x87D00269 error?
Seems to be somehow related to driver installation mechanism in SCCM in combination with Windows 7 64 bit, +8GB RAM and SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 or perhaps just R2.
Any help or hints would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Anders

We have the same workaround, using a x64 boot image resolved all our issues with WinPE 5.0.
    Machines with >4GB of RAM
Lenovo ThinkPad T540p failed applying drivers with 80040005
    Black screen/white cursor issues intermittently
No updates from Microsoft, they are still looking through the logs, but we have updated our boot images and all is well now. Our case it still open with Microsoft, they are researching the logs.

  • External Hard Drive(ERROR CODE 0) .DMG Back Up Issues. How to get more than 4gbs in .DMG back ups.

I am currently using a my external hard drive for my late 2009 Mac Mini, my brothers MBP and my sisters HP laptop. I have a Western Digital My Passport 1T external Hard Drive to back up all are information. I formatted it to work on mac and pc and its on the "MS-DOS(FAT) setup at the momment. Im trying to back up DMG files from my HDD hard drive in my computer to the External Hard Drive to pass them onto my brother. I understand the whole part of me getting the "Error Code 0" where i can only put 4gbs of storage for that. I wanted to no is there a way for me to format my external hard drive for it to work on a Mac and a PC but for me to also transfer my .dmg files with more than 4gbs of that storage to my external hard drive?
p.s Im running on OSX 10.6.8 and the DMG files are alittle more than 4 gbs. From 5-10gbs. Thank you for all the replys. It helps me out and others in the Apple community out!

Hi, Steve. Your proposed procedure is just fine until you get to this point:
...reformat the WD to be Mac friendly *and reformat in FAT32* ...
Reformatting the newly-reformatted Mac-friendly drive as FAT32 will, as you say, simply put you back where you were before, but with your data on a different drive. Omit that step, and you'll have a Mac-friendly drive that you can copy your data back onto.
If you normally work with files exceeding 4GB in size, you won't want any hard drive in FAT32 format. If for some reason you'd like all your external drives in NTFS format, download and install the NTFS-3G driver, which will enable your Mac to read *and write to* that disk format.

  • Adding more than 2Gb RAM to MacBook Pro

Do you guys know of any way to put more than 2Gb RAM in an Intel 17" MacBook Pro?
    Model Name: MacBook Pro 17"
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP12.0061.B03
    SMC Version: 1.5f10
I bought this when the 17" models first came out, and have been disappointed in it ever since (I broke my rule of NOT buying the first generation of something). As time has passed, the main problem is the 2Gb limit for RAM. That's NOWHERE near enough, and shame on Apple for that limitation. If there were some way, even a non-standard way, of adding more RAM, I could get reasonable performance from this computer. As it is, this has been a wasted $3600 investment. whew!
Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! Feel free to email bruce at dbsdesigngroup.com

That's possible...actually likely. I'd love for that to be the case because I could fix it. ::Grin:: It's been this way since I first got it. When it arrived with just 1 Gb RAM, it was virtually unusable. I have a few apps as startup items, but they're just Firefox, Entourage, iNotepad, Linotype Font Explorer (with very few fonts activated), and Stickies. That shouldn't affect things much.
My needs are to use Photoshop, Illustrator and GoLive at the same time, with MSWord, Firefox and Entourage open as well. After the first bit of usage, I end up with 4-6 pageouts and a VERY slow computer. While it's doing the pageouts (which take quite a while), or switching between apps, it's very slow. And it's also extremly slow when Spotlight is indexing, so I disabled that.
I'm just not sure what it might be...nothing in Activity Monitor seems like it would be a culprit. Even in Safe Mode the problem is very evident.
I'll keep exploring and hopefully find something that will make this machine more viable for my use. I really appreciate the input greatly.

  • More than 2GB RAM 1st gen Macbook

Is there any way possible to get more than 2GB RAM in a 1st gen macbook? I have one 2GB stick in right now but if I try to put even the old 512MB in the other slot I get no video. I also tried two 2GB sticks as well. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but it doesn't hurt to ask and have hope
I have a dell inspiron with Core2 and it wouldn't see 4GBs until I pulled the battery on it. maybe there is a trick for the macbook like that?

I was hoping since it sees one 2GB stick it may like 2? It was a long shot. I just got this one used, so I'm stuck with it for a while. It runs fine with 2GB though.
