Will FCP Studio CrossGrade work on my non-Intel Macs?

Hello,
I am having to get the Final Cut Studio Universal Crossgrade for my new Mac Pro 2GHz Intel machine. Will the Crossgrade work on my other machines WITHOUT the new Intel chips (Power Mac G4 733MHz & G4 Powerbook 1.25 Ghz).
Thanks,
PM

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that the previous statements are only a half truth. I own a Mac Pro and a G-5. I upgraded to Universal on both of them and while the program works on both you can't take a saved file from the Mac Pro to the G-5. You get a "General Error" Message.
Anybody know any more information on this?

  • Will Install Disks for a MacBook (10.4.6) work on a non-Intel Mac?

I have got hold of new and unused install disks for a MacBook. Its OSX Tiger 10.4.6. Although all the new Macs are now Intel Duo, will this still be able to be installed on my iBook G4 512Mb?
Or will it only work on a Mac with an Intel Duo processor?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512Mb

The story has now changed somewhat. Copied from your original post in this thread.

Although this 10.4.6 install package for an iBook may work on your iBook, usually the build must be identical also.
A link I provided in one of my previous posts in this thread.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25517
This install package may install OK on your iBook but if the build is not identical, it may not work correctly after the fact.
Since the bods at the Apple Store you visited said this makes no difference - this iBook 10.4.6 install package you acquired will work on ANY non-Intel Mac, what are you worried about? Use it but to be on the safe side, I would first get the bods at this Apple Store to provide you a free exchange for a Tiger retail install install package if your install package doesn't work.

  • Will FCP Studio 3 work with Mountain Lion?

Will I beable to open my projects and work on them if I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

    Yes, no and maybe...
By starting from your install DVD, you can copy the entire hard drive back from a TM backup. Takes ages though.
Retrieving documents is just a couple of clicks, as you probably know. Same goes for simple self contained apps.
FCS is a bit more complicated as it also puts lots of files into the Library and System folders -- some are even invisible. If you remove it or are starting with a brand new Mac, I doubt that you will get everything needed back by just clicking the half dozen icons in the Applications folder of a TM backup.
A cloned drive is a 1:1 copy. You can use the Restore function in Disk Utility. There are also apps such as SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner that can be used to make and retrieve your clone.

  • Sony HDR-SR11 /AVCHD/NON-INTEL MAC/HELP

I have called both sony and apple tech support and both offered little help today.
I have a Sony HDR-SR11 that I shot some HD content with. The computer registers that the camera is there as an external HDD. Sony's FAQ suggested that I save the AVCHD file to my HDD and it should work....NOPE
I hooked it up to a PC and installed the software it comes with and I was able to view my files but not export them into a normal format.
I have 2 sets of files one set is .m2t and the other is .mts both say they are Unix Executable files..***!
I have a Power MAc G5 running Leopard and Final Cut Pro 6 I ran the software update and it says that as of today 100% up to date yet it says that FCP should be 6.0.2 mine says 6.0
Apple support said that it may not even work on a non-intel Mac.....HELP
anyone get this to work, supposedly Imovie work s with it but the files are grayed out in the menus for imovie so I dunno all I know is I need this footage off the camera ASAP.
    Thanks

I came here actually looking for a different solution and not the one I'm about to say... but I will tell you that the new iMovie will import the video straight off the camera (in either 960x540 or 1920x1080). It's not ideal, but it works.
In fact, I'm doing so right now, but I came here hoping there might be news of a new fix so that FCP will import it directly (it will not, log & capture will not do it, just so others are clear on this).
That said, the video off the camera looks very nice. I'm still happy with the camera, even if I do have to do one hoop jump before I can edit.

  • Need URL for non-intel Mac OS X Firefox

Firefox 7 for Intel Mac overwrote a version of Firefox that worked on my non-Intel Mac. No Firefox right now. Can't find usable version of Firefox on Mozilla website.

Found the answer. The correct URL is http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html . The working version is 3.6+
Mac owners take notice---There is no link to the above URL on the Firefox website.
The advice to upgrade to version 4 is bogus.

  • Will FCP7 Studio Pro work on a new iMac Core i7 with OS 10.8.4?

We are still on FCP6. We never upgraded to 7, and we have just upgraded our iMacs.
FCP6 does not work with the new iMac and we would like to continue using the older version of of FCP.
Will FCP7 Studio Pro work on a new iMac Core i7 with OS 10.8.4?

You should refrain from repeating this suggestion about Rosetta (especially since you have no direct experience with it).  Much has changed since the time of its discussion back in the introduction of Lion days.
The fact of the matter is that Rosetta has no valid function installed into Lion or Mt. Lion and users have reported serious system problems and crashes after further subsequent modifications and System updates.
There are two safe methods to install FCP6 (FCS2) into Lion or Mt. Lion:
    Use Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Use Jeremy Johnstone's Terminal method:

Will FCP 5.1 work on 10.4.11?
or whats the max 10.4.x i can go to? currently on 10.4.4

I'm running FCP 5.1.4 on 10.4.11 and the finder doesn't appear to "see" the program. I can't hide it, and the screen saver kicks in while I am still working on a project. Annoying but I can deal with it.

  • Can I use a Power PC non intel Mac Mini as an external HD with my iMac 3.06

Can I use a Power PC non intel Mac Mini as an external HD with my iMac 3.06 Intel Core Duo
I can't figure out how to get this to work. Is it possible?

Will it work if I connect via usb instead of firewire?
No. There is no "USB Target Disk Mode".
Just so we're clear, when you start your Mac mini in FireWire Target Disk Mode (TDM - holding T on startup), do you see a FireWire icon on the Mac mini's display? IIRC, it's not required that the Mac mini be connected to a display for TDM, but it would help diagnose whether or not the mini is actually starting in this mode.

  • Which version lightroom for non-intel mac 10.5.8

Which Version of Lightroom works best with a (non-Intel) Mac 10.5.8?  Thank You.

There is none that Adobe will sell you.  They only supply the most recent version:  LR 5, which requires 10.7.5, I think.  Sometimes you can get the previous version, i.e. LR 4, on Amazon but sometimes those are just scams, too, so you want to make sure you’re buying from Amazon, themselves, not an Amazon-Marketplace vendor.
To your specific question about what version is compatible with 10.5.8, if you go to the Adobe page for LR Mac updates:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=113 <http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=113&platform=Macintosh> &platform=Macintosh
and click down into the past versions, it appears that LR 3.6 from 12/12/2011, will run on OSX 10.5 but LR 4.x will not, so I don’t think you’ll have much luck with such an old OS.

  • Using MacBook backup with non-Intel Mac laptop

I'm scheduled for a computer replacement at work (not a new one, but a hand-me-down from someone else). I was originally told it would have to be a Windows PC (grrr), but then it turned out that someone who recently left for another job had a Mac laptop that I can have instead. I'm not sure exactly what model it is, but it's my understanding that it's only a year or two old. I assume it will be an iBook or a PowerBook.
I'm wondering if I can use my MacBook backup (which is on an external harddrive and is bootable) to boot up a non-Intel Mac laptop. Since I have to send my MacBook back in for repair (second round of RSD), I was hoping that once I get this older laptop I could just boot from my external and keep on working as if I still had my MacBook (without the ability to use Windows of course). I assume all the programs (except Parallels) would be compatible, but would the system files work?

I don't think it will allowed you to boot from that external that installed with os X 10.4.x (compiled for macintel version).
But surely you can use the data in it if you have proper or similar program at the older portable mac.
But if you willing to try it, it won't hurt, just connect that external and restart while pressing the option key, and if it shows as an option for start up, click on it and see how it goes. If nothing happen, simply shutdown the laptop and restart regularly using its own hd.
    Good Luck.

  • Can I Multi-Process with an Older, Non-Intel Mac?

...when I am on a new Intel Mac with AE CS4?

I don't understand the question. Can you use computer A while you're using computer B? Are you talking about network rendering? If so, then consider that both computers must be able to run After Effects and open the project that you're working with. Because After Effects CS4 only runs on processors with the Intel architecture (not PowerPC chips), the "non-Intel" Mac is a non-starter.

  • VOIP hardware for non-Intel Macs

A question: is there any add-on hardware available to make a non-Intel desktop Mac ready to use for VOIP? Like a VOIP PCI express card? Currently, Intel Macs can use the Magic Jack or Skype; non-Intel Macs (such as my G5) can only use Skype or its equivalent. Which can be a discouraging pain in the butt if I want to also use the G5's sound system for the more conventional purposes, e.g., iTunes, iPod, alert sounds, mail sounds, importing audio, assembling soundtracks, etc. If a Skype call comes in when I'm listening to iTunes, for example, I have to plug in the Skype headset, open my System Preferences, change the settings, shut off iTunes, and only then can I answer the "phone". Are there any changes to the hardware coming to make this all(including the Magic Jack) unnecessary in the future?

I was mistaken. There are settings within Skype to settle the problem I was having.

  • Will an iWeb gallery work on a non-mobile me server?

I've been using MobileMe's free trial working out a website for my dad's artwork and am close to the end of the trial. I had planned on just going to GoDaddy as I could find no justifiable use of the other features of MMe for myself.
    Q. Will the iWeb generated picture gallery work on a non-mme server when I publish to folder then FTP it to GoDaddy?
And if no; what is a substitute that I can do that will appear seamless for the end user (ex. I do not want a horrid re-direct to photobucket with ads and tags klingon-in)
    thx
    nf

The answer is yes, the basic iWeb photo gallery will still work. But if you don’t publish your site to MobileMe, these features are unavailable:
Password protection, Blog and *_photo comments_*, Blog search, Hit counter, *_Enhanced slideshows_*.
...The slideshow will be a basic HTML slideshow, rather than the "enhanced" one which works with MobileMe.

I got an email today from a client who's buying a new macbook and wants to run fcp7 on it.  Told him he might be better off buying an older machine.
Buying an older machine is an option, but quite honestly, if your client is doing his work for professional purposes (whether for himself or 3rd parties) I would suggest that he purchase TWO older Macs (preferably the same model).
Then he can set them both up and have a backup situation when the first one fails.  In the case of using a new Mac, this is not as important, as one can always run out to the Mac store, come home with a new replacement and restore their backup/clone and be up and running with little loss of time.  That scenario is not possible with a used Mac.
Hardware drivers can function in Parallels, through USB, but not firewire.  What kind of hardware drivers are you talking about?
Lastly, I have finally found a local source who will "loan" me his copy of FCP 6 for educational/research purposes!
