Will FileVault 2 offer me less security?

I read the following article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4790
But it is not clear exactly how FileVault 2 works. I was considering switching but I don't like what I'm reading.
If I encrypt my entire disk, will a guest account user (not allowed to decrypt disk) have to have me (allowed to decrpyt disk) around in order to decrypt the disk for them before they can use it every time they switch on the Mac? It seems like this is what they are saying.
Will multiple users (all allowed to decrpyt disk) be able to see the content of each other's home directories? If encryption is on a per disk basis with a single global key then there is nothing in that article to indicate that they can't.
I don't know, seems to me that the "legacy" way of encrypting home directories per user makes way more sense. Each users key can only decrypt his own home directory.
Please help me understand the logic behind FileVault2 better. Wikipedia reports potential security risks with my current FileVault, but given the above concerns I don't know if I want to switch.

This is from Notebook Review and seems to solve the bootcamp and FileVault2 problem in Lion. Note: I had trouble installing Windows 7 Professional in Bootcamp AFTER having already enable FileVault2, which got me to do some searching.
If you are doing a new Windows install into bootcamp, whether or not your OS X installation is a fresh install of Lion or an upgrade from Snow Leopard, the key seems to be to have FileVault OFF, then install Windows, then install the Windows Support Software (aka bootcamp drivers that you burned or copied during bootcamp assistant) into Windows (this installs the latest bootcamp 4.0 drivers into Windows--remember Windows mounts the FileVault encrypted HFS+ volume of OS X when using Bootcamp), then make sure you can boot into either operating system, then finally turn on FileVault 2 in OS X, then make sure you can boot into both operating systems once more.
The link describes what to do if your getting blue screens in Windows, or reboots, or if you can only start Windows in Safe Mode. YOU NEED TO INSTALL THE LATEST BOOTCAMP DRIVERS INTO WINDOWS TO STOP THE BLUE SCREENS, follow directions on the link.

  • Is my wired desktop less secure ?

    I' ve installed a WRT54G wireless router .Set up all security as instructed. My question is ," does this make  my wired ( business  ) desktop in this network any less secure then before installing a wireless router for my laptop ?"

    A wireless router will always be a little less secure than a wired router.  However, if your wireless is properly set up, it can indeed be quite secure.   You should be using WPA2 encryption, or at least WPA encryption, and a strong password.  By "strong password",  I mean at least 24 random characters including capital letters, small letters, and digits.  With this type of security, you should be able to sleep well at night.
    WEP is no longer recommended because it can easily be cracked in just a few minutes.

  • Question in asa default rule that say "any less secure network"

    hi all ,
    i want to ask ,
    im trying to find the object that is called "any less secure networks " in the asa but i cant !!!
    i can only set the "any" object !!
    what i want is ,
    i want to reset the asa rules to default , i mean that i want allow only traffic from high level to any lower level and block the other traffic !!
    but  i can put only "any" rule , i cant see "any less secure network"
    does that mean that it is mean " any less secure network "
     i have asa 5505 with ios 8.4
    regards

    It sounds like you are attempting to write an access list to restrict traffic that implements the default rules. But the default is that there are not user created access lists. If you remove your access list then the ASA will enforce the default rule to permit traffic from a more secure network to a less secure network.

  • I need to replace my iPhone 4S due to a hardware problem. Will I be offered to upgrade to iPhone 5 for an extra fee?

    Hey everyone. I have an iPhone 4S that needs replacing due to obvious hardware issues (shuts down randomly on its own). I have shown the panic.plist reports that it generates on another forum and they have confirmed the kernel and hardware problem.
    Since replacing it is the only way to go for me, I was wondering whether Apple still offers the option to upgrade to the next model when going to replace a phone with warranty. What I mean is, if I go to an Apple Store and ask to replace my handset for a new one (with my warranty/receipt) will I be offered to upgrade to an iPhone 5 for an additional fee? Can I ask for this option?
    Thanks!

    Apple has NEVER offered this as an option.

    1. Because if you could, someone who breaks into your account could do it as well.
    2. You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • Will Windows 10 offer the following functionality

    Windows 10 installation experienced NO issues regarding support, driver installation, or crashes during use.
    Out of interest will Windows 10 offer the following functionality - either on release or by Update/SP 1 ?
    Support for compressed files other than .zip (i.e. RAR)
    Tabbed browsing in Windows exporer
    Media functionality that will allow the playing of presentation DVDs (Enterprise)
    Inclusion of MS Office - in a similar manner to Surface - for Home users (Home, Student & Standalone systems)
    Thanking you

    Windows supports 3rd party applications, such as 7-Zip, which in turn gives you things like .rar support.
    If you crave tabs I suggest that perhaps you may not have enough desktop space.  More / bigger monitors are a better, more direct solution, in my opinion, opposed to tabbed
    anything.  Microsoft, if you're listening and are considering making additional tabbed interfaces, please, PLEASE make them options that can be deconfigured.
    Why Microsoft has eliminated media capabilities since Windows 7 is really anyone's guess, but I'm betting it has to do with licensing fees.  I for one would pay a premium for a better, more capable edition (e.g., "Windows xx
    Ultimate", which is the edition I chose for Win 7 and Win Vista before that).
    I don't imagine Microsoft will be giving away Office any time soon.  But we can dream.

  • Does anyone know if the Nomad muvo2 xtrainer will ever be upgraded to support secure

    A bit misleading, The "playsforsure" site says that the xtrainer will work on sites that require secure wma support (FYE Subscription service and Napster to go). I like the idea of renting my music instead of paying a buck a track for songs that wont be listened to in a couple of months. When I checked the plays for sure site, I saw the xtrainer listed there and liked the idea of the flash memory andnot the hard dri've (i workout hard and ride mountain bike with it). So I bought it... Straight from creative thru ebay. When I get it I find out that it doesnt support secure WMA, so unless they are planning on upgrading the firmware, am going to have to buy another one.
    Does anyone know (or a creative employee?) if they will be supporting secure wma in future upgrades?
    Thanks
    Bob

    It will support some types of DRM, but I think the subscription services aren't supported yet.

  • Create run-as-account with less secure option in C#

    Hi all,
    Is there any way I can create run-as-account using C# code with less secure option.
    I have referred this code.
    ManagementGroup managementGroup = ManagementGroup.Connect(System.Environment.MachineName);
    Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Security.SimpleCredentialSecureData runAsAccount = new Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Security.SimpleCredentialSecureData();
    runAsAccount.Data = ConvertToSecureString("sample");
    runAsAccount.Description = "Sample run_as_account_description";
    runAsAccount.Name = "Run_as_account";
    runAsAccount.UserName = "sample@abc";
    managementGroup.Security.InsertSecureData(runAsAccount);
    But it creates account with more secure option.

    Hi,
    I searched the internet and found below link about SecureData type, not sure whether it can be useful for you as I am not familiar with
    SimpleCredentialSecureData() method, but you may refer to it and check it.

    In addition, I would liketo suggest you also post in the MSDN forum for coding issue.

    I have an iPhone4s. When I install apps, I have to give my Apple password first.  That’s okay. The last few apps I tried to download have opened another security window before they will install.  The window says, “Security info Required.  To help insure the security of your Apple ID we require additional information”  When I select okay, the Apple ID Password window opens and asks for my Apple password a second time.
    It doesn't happen with every app and I’m concerned that these apps may be trying to collent my password.  Is Apple really doing a double check on my password?

    the ios7 download will not let me past the security section in the setup . how can i get past it?

    Hey 6bigdog6,
    Thanks for the question. It sounds like the album has been synced to your iPhone from iTunes. To delete synced photos, you’ll want to uncheck the album in iTunes:
    iTunes: Syncing photos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236
    To delete synced photos and videos from your device
    1. In iTunes, click the Device button in the upper right corner. (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper-right corner first.)
    2. Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
    3. Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
      Note: To delete all synced photos, deselect "Sync Photos from" and, when asked, click "Remove photos."
    4. Click Apply.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Will Apple ever offer 8pen as an alternative keyboard?

    Will Apple ever offer 8pen (www.8pen.com) as an alternative keyboard on the iPhone?

    First of all, no poster here is privy to Apple's iOS development plans, so we cannot possible know what they may or may not include (and any member who may legitimately know something would be restricted by a non-disclosure agreement to not discuss it).
    However, I doubt it.  Custom keyboards are not an option on an iOS device as the operating system restricts those sorts of key OS features to what is built in only (rather than let developers change out or alter basic or core features of the OS).
    Since 8pen is basically a handwriting/gesture recognition app, it would be up to 8pen to work at developing an iOS app, but it would not be able to act as a universal alternative keyboard to replace the base iOS one.
