Will Final Cut Express do This?

I'm an iMovie user. I saw a montage that had different photos coming up into a kind of "grid"...so there could be four different photos in separate frames of the "grid" and you could change them one at a time. You could also have a video clip running in one "cell" while photos remained in the others. I don't know what this feature is called, but I was told that the montage was made in Final Cut Pro. Does anyone know what this is called and if Final Cut Express will do it? Sorry to seem like a complete idiot!

No. There is even a free plugin to help you do this.

  • Will Final Cut Express help with...

I am considering purchasing Final Cut Express for a video project I am working on for my company. I have been using iMovie for a while and have not found a way to overlay a graphic (in this case, our company logo) on top of video. Will Final Cut Express allow me to do this?
Also, I just shot some video of clients giving testimonials that I would like to turn into marketing pieces. Unfortunately there is a lot of background noise in several of the clips. Does Final Cut Express have any audio tuning features that will help me reduce or remove the background noise?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Will Final Cut Express allow me to do this?
    Yes, easily.
Does Final Cut Express have any audio tuning features that will help me reduce or remove the background noise?
Not really. You could try using a noise reduction tool like SoundSaop, but you're best bet is to re-shoot using proper mics and placement.

  • Will final cut express work with a sony DCR-SR40

I got a sony DCR-SR40 camcorder for christmas an imovie won't work with it - will final cut express do the job?

First of all, welcome to the forum.
That camcorder uses a USB interface, correct? FCP and
iMovie can only import via FW. For hard drive
camcorders, you must import the footage like you
would files from an external HD. Then you can work
with the files in FCP or iMovie.
Good luck and happy New Year.
This Camera supports Mpeg -2 files I have had no end of problems importing this into I movie. Bought the software recomended by Sony (Capty MPEG ..whatever) cost £65 and is rubbish, so bought the Quicktime MPEG 2 codec plugin for £15, got the picture not the sound. What plug in do I need for the Audio, or should I ditch the camera and go for a Firewire version.

  • Will Final Cut Express work on a Macbook Core Duo

I have a 2006 Macbook 2ghz Core Duo with 2gig of Ram. Will Final Cut Express work on this? Will the integrated graphics card affect performance?

    hey there 12frets,
FCE should run w/out major probs. you should even be able to run a 2nd display up to 23", which would be very handy as the Canvass(playback) window will be rather small on a 13" display.
    FCE System Requirements
A Mac computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, or Intel Xeon processor
For AVCHD: A Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of RAM or more
An AGP or PCI Express graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme; or an Intel GMA integrated graphics processor in a MacBook or Mac mini computer
Some FxPlug filters are not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors.
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
    A DVD drive for installation
Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
    QuickTime 7.2 or later
500MB of disk space to install Final Cut Express and LiveType
Additional 500MB to install LiveType content
    good luck.

  • Will Final Cut Express 2.0.3 work with Tiger 10.4.4

Will Final Cut Express 2.0.3 work with Tiger 10.4.4

We have it running on our iMac G5s. Although it runs reasonably well, there are some teething problems with it. One of them is we cannot capture from a camcorder using timecodes because it just crashes when we try and do that, so we can only capture using the "DV Convertor" mode. Not unreasonable, but slightly annoying.
We also have the problem that, when we brought some new iMac G5s recently with the iSight built in, it wouldn't work at all because it didn't seem to realise that a PCI-Express graphics card was actually a graphics card at all, and it kept demanding we install an AGP one, which was a bit stupid.
Apart from that, it's definitely useable. No crashes or anything like that. And we use it daily.

  • Will final cut express work with os maverick

I am running mountain lion and FCE. will final cut express work with mavericks.?

A follow-up to my previous post.  FCE 4.0.1 is working fine with Mavericks on the computer at my church (we use it to video-tape sermons and masses for YouTube).
A few weeks ago, I purchased a copy of FCE 4.0 from Amazon (one of only two left).  It would NOT work with Mavericks, and there was no upgrade available on the App Store (the only source of software upgrades with Mavericks).  So, I installed FCE on another iMac running Lion.  It installed just fine, and when I went to "Check for New Software" in "the apple", it found the upgrade to 4.0.1, installed it, I copied it to a blank DVD, and installed that on my iMac running Mavericks.  It is working fine.  (HINT TO APPLE: Can we please go back to the simple "Check for Software Updates" instead of the App Store?  Ever since Steve Jobs died everything Apple has become more complicated, not intuitively simple as he made it.)

  • HT3835 Will final cut express 3.5 run on the newer mac os 10.8 or 10.9?

I am going to be purchasing a MacBook Pro when the newest model is released. I am wondering if I can run my Final Cut Express 3.5 with the latest operating system.

I've been using it with Lion and Mountain Lion and it is working well. It was updated to 3.5.1 via Software Update.
However, you will have a problem with the installer as I got the "PPC applications are not supported" when I tried to install it in Lion after doing a fresh install (although FCE is a Universal application, the installer appears to be PPC). So, I followed the file locations in this article and moved every file from my Snow Leopard partition to the Lion partition into the same folder/location. Restarted and it has been working since.

  • Will Final Cut Express be improved by upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks?

  • HT2948 Will Final Cut Express 4 work with the new Canon XA10 AVCHD ??

I'm in the process of shopping for new cameras for my students. We edit on Final Cut Express 4 HD. I want to buy the Canon XA10camwras which record to SD cards.  I keep reading AVCHD video and am new to the technology. The B&H website says this camera :
    Product Highlights
    1/3" CMOS Sensor
    Native 1920 x 1080
    24Mbps AVCHD Recording
    60i, PF30, PF24, Native 24p
    64GB Internal Flash Drive
    Flash Memory
The XA10 Professional Camcorder allows users to record up to 24 hours of clear high definition video to a 64GB internal flash drive or to two SDXC-compatible memory cards. With Relay Recording, the camcorder automatically switches video recording from the internal drive to the SD memory cards when the memory becomes full.
Video can be copied from the XA10's internal drive to removable SD memory cards. That makes it easy to insert the card into your computer or HDTV's card reader and view your recorded footage immediately. Double Slot Recording allows recording to two SD cards simultaneously, providing an automatic backup while shooting.
    AVCHD Codec
The XA10 features the AVCHD codec. AVCHD (Advanced Video Coding High Definition) was announced in 2006 and is quickly becoming the standard for professional camcorders. AVCHD utilizes MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression technology similar to the technology used in Canon's HD DSLRs. In addition to professional grade camcorders, AVCHD is very popular in the consumer market and as a result most nonlinear editing software, both professional and consumer, have full support for the codec; this makes for easy compatibility with the XA10 no matter what system you choose.
Will I be able to take out the SD cards, put them in a card reader, and simply log and transfer into Final Cut Express? Again, I'm a novice and don't know what a lot of this means.
    Thanks!!!!

FCE should work with the 60i (interlaced) footage this camera produces.
Also you should be able to load the SD and capture.
I do not have one or used one with FCE, the specs indicate it should.
Maybe a current owner can chip in their experiences.

  • Will Final Cut express work with MacBook Pro??

I am new to Mac and got my first Mac, MacBook pro. 2.4GHZ - 2.o Gig Memory.
Will this be enough or is there an hardware requirement that macbook pro does not come with?
iMovie 08 does not have the effects I was using in the old PC. Slow motion, combining many audio tracks, cross fade etc.
    Thanks

Final Cut Pro is the same program (to all intents and purposes) as Final Cut Express and requires the same power of computer - no more, no less.
For most people, FCP will not do anything that FCE can't - apart from allowing you to use formats such as DVCPRO etc. that amateurs are unlikely to use. All the filters and transitions are exactly the same except for a couple of insignificant ones.
The only reason for buying FCP is in order to get all the other programs that are bundled with it.

  • Will Final Cut Express HD run on my MacBook?

    Hi all!
I bought myself a MacBook Intel C2D a few months ago. I do enjoy it very very much.
I am thinking about going from iMovie to Final Cut Express HD, but I am not sure if it will run on my MacBook Intel C2D.
Anyone who can enlighten me in this subject?
    Sincerely,
    Andreas
    MacBook Intel C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, Final Cut Express will run on your MacBook. When you purchase, be sure to get FCE version 3.5 (not an earlier version).
What are the specs of your MacBook - especially how much RAM memory and what size HD you have in it.
Here are the FCE technical specs. Even though the minimum requirement is 512MB RAM, Final Cut Express will run much better if you have at least 1GB RAM in your MacBook (and 1GB RAM is the minimum if you plan to do HDV video).
    Hope that helps!

  • Will final cut express support my camcorder eventually

I purchased a canon hv20 and it is not a supported device with final cut express yet and I was wondering that since the hv 10 is if the hv20 will supported soon also?

There are thousands of cameras out there but only a handful on the supported lists.
This is because it would use up all Apple's profits and time to test every one of them - an impossible task. New cameras are being introduced all the time.
Pretty well all DV cameras with FireWire outputs will work with FCE.
The best thing people can do is ignore those lists as they cause more trouble and confusion than they are worth.
    Ian.

  • Will Final Cut Express be any better than iMovie for colour resolution

    Hi
I have just made the move from a Laptop/Windows to a Macbook Pro, whilst running on the Laptop i used Ulead Video Studio V10.5 to capture and edit DV movies from my Panasonic NV-GS180. Once I learnt the basic the output results were very good, eg. an mpeg movie file of around 2.5GB for an hour of video.
Since moving to the Mac I have uploaded 2 recent DV tapes into the standard iMovie application. I have done a simple upload with minimal editing just to prove the quality of the output. I have output into H.264 format and the resultant file is around 2.5GB for an hour. The quality of the video is very poor compared to the equivalent on the VS10.5. Now, so by "poor quality" i mean the colour resolution is literally rubbish, on VS10.5 there are many different shades of the same colour, whereas in iMovie there is literally two. The resolution also looks worse, but I have read that iMovie doesn't handle the original interlaced video from my camcorder. So, I am more than willing to but Final Cut Express if my two problems with iMovie are addressed to achieve the same quality as VS10.5 on my old windows XP Laptop. There's no Trial like there is with Aperture, which I have recently bought to improve on the original installed iPhoto.
Any help, advice or comments gratefully received.

    hi Ian
In store, we were using an huge Mac, whereas I am using a Macbook Pro. I must admit I did not try iMovie in the store to check the quality was equally as bad. But I can confirm that since installing FCE4 on my Macbook Pro at home and capturing the same piece of video that the colour resolution is the same as in store, so all is good.
    Cheers

  • Will Final Cut Express Work with Internal iMAC speakers?

Am new to Final Cut Express, having worked in iMovie for years
I am trying to import iMovie8 content into FCX. Import went fine, however when playing back clips in view or canvas I hear no audio. Audio tracks show waveforms. When I scrub play line over tracks, I see reaction in audio meters, however when just simple play-no action. Have seen notes to set View/Video Out/Canvas Playback-have done so but no change in audio status.
Does FCX require external speakers (which I don't have now), or is there a way to get it to play through internal speakers.
    Thanks for any help

    Peter-thanks for the reply
I did validate that FCE uses the internal speakers when I directly imported some video clips from my camera-so I seem to be past that problem.
I also found the iMovie import reference "does not import sound effects, audio levels or transitions". Since I didn't have any of these, I'm not sure this applied. However, since my base question (use of internal speakers) was definitely answered, I'll mark this answered and start another stream.
    Again-Thanks

  • Resolution concerns in iMovie, will Final Cut Express be solution?

    Hello:
I'm working on a film, and have input from various people with various cameras. We are all working with 'standard' definition cameras, however, even among our cameras and outputs our film clips have different resolutions.
I put together a 120 minute film in iMovie. There are approx. 15 minutes of various clips from cameras with less than good quality film. Because of the film quality of a vast minority of the film clips, in iMovie, I can only export it into a 'medium' resolution, because medium is as good as some clips can be made out to be. So the majority of the film suffers with resolution because a small amount of film can only be done in medium resolution.
Does FCE allow you to better blend film clips with various resolution, while still maximizing your final output's quality? iMovie seems to be limited in that your final output is only as good as your worst quality clip that is included in the film.
Can I use FCE or some other tool to somehow compress and clean up the clips that are medium resolution so they can be then imported back into iMovie and can be used in a high resolution output?
Or will FCE natively handle most of what I'm asking, ie, glueing film from different quality standard def. cameras and creating a final highest possible resolution film? There appears to be an export from iMovie into FCE, however som things are lost in transition. I don't want to learn FCE completely or be forced to move to FCE or Pro in order to do something I'm shocked iMovie doesn't better handle.
Or are there any Pro's out there for hire to help me get over this hurdle. I'm making a DVD. The best output I have right now is 640 x 360. I don't exactly know what output is ideal for going onto DVD, but I figure the rest can be done in 960 x 540, so shoot for the higher resolution before compression and have better results, but I don't know if I'm thinking right.
Any input into using FCE as a solution, or if I'm asking something that cannot be done? I don't understand all the codecs and compressions but figure if I can massage the lower quality stuff or otherwise find a tool that help me produce a film project done in iMovie to the highest possible resolution.

.. which vers. of iM we are talking about?
if your source is miniDV (=interlaced), iM vers≤6 is ok.
iM08/09 have that 'skip field' prob, meaning, you lose halve vertical resolution while using iM08/09.
=> this is discussed +in extenso+ at the iM boards. it leads a few folks (incl. me) to establish this web-site:
    http://sites.google.com/site/theimovieoutputproject/
if you really need that extra-grain of quality, you have to start from scratch in iM09 or FC/e.
640x360 is no resolution supported by iM (any vers.), nor FC/e.
for sure, +on export+ you can choose this 'size'.
for DVD-creation, use the app's intended workflows to avoid useless interim-conversions.
