Will Final Cut Studio (7) work w/ Mountain Lion?

I now use FCX, but still have some things that have to be done in 7.

  • Will Final Cut Studio 3 work with OSX Mavericks?

    Hi,
Does anyone know if Final Cut Studio 3 will work with the New OSX Mavericks when it's released this fall?
    Thanks in advance

If you have the snow leopard install disk, you can do a custom install and just install rosetta.

I've done it a few times without any issues, and I haven't seen any definitive reports detailing the problems with this.
Doing a complete clean install is the much safer way to have a dependable system.  Here's a user tip on OS and FCP installation

I'd also recommend creating a bootable clone of your startup drive before doing any os upgrades or application installations or upgrades.  That way if things go south, you can easily return to the previous working system.

  • Will Final cut studio upgrade work??

    Hi
My office in considering buying the Final cut 5 studio package. We have the full version of FCP 4.5 and all the stuff that comes with it. However we have the educational verion of DVD studio pro 3.
Just wondering if that will be a problem if we got the upgrade version of the studio package. If the EDU version doesn't work, can it be upgraded from any other version of DVDSP?
    thanks

Do you have to own the full version of EVERYTHING to get the upgrade?
To get the $500 upgrade - yes. However, there is another upgrade - all you need is FCP. The latter is $700 and the only one that you would qualify for.
You can see what I mean here. On the right there's a heading labeled "Upgrade Requirements" - spells it out.

  • Will Final Cut Studio 2 work on the new 24" iMac?

I'd like to buy the iMac, but not if I can't run FCS2. Will it run it and how do I need to upgrade/configure it?

    Hi there,
I run FCP2 on a new 24" iMac (I max'ed out the RAM, which I would recommend if you do go that way). Everything is fully operational, but there might be some downsides depending upon what you are doing.
    - the iMac will take longer on rendering tasks, and will not have as much available for real-time viewing in your timeline with effects applied as a beefier Mac Pro will. To elaborate, when you add effects (or if you want to live preview certain effects) you will have to render before viewing your video.
    - the iMac is no where near as expandable as a Mac Pro, for storage, memory, CPU, and video cards. Even the lowest config of a Mac Pro is likely to wipe the floor with a loaded iMac on many intensive tasks. Imagine what a loaded Mac Pro can do! Of course, it will cost you...
That said, the 24" iMac makes a decent "budget" editing box. I added Lacie Quadra d2 external hard drives on the Firewire800 interface which are ALMOST as fast as internal. I don't add much in the way of 3D or particle effects to the majority of work I do on the iMac, so the performance is quite nice. I work primarily in SD still and the standard editing performance is very snappy (not too bad for rendering either; 2 hours of SD output takes like 15 minutes, I've heard this can take as little as 5 minutes on a Mac Pro)...I think I would abandon the iMac for a Mac Pro in a second if I was working a lot in HD, or if I did a lot of compositing and so on.
One thing to keep in minding if you are purchasing as you grow in editing knowledge...If you purchased an iMac today as used it for 2 years before you decided you had outgrown it's capabilities and need a Mac Pro, it wouldn't be a waste of money. The Xsan cluster rendering that FCP2 can do is really neat in that you can distribute some of your rendering tasks to other Macs on your network, allowing you to keep the iMac doing something useful while the Mac Pro remains your main editing station.
There was a post about not using an iMac for "professional" editing, and I would tend to agree. If you make your living by editing, do yourself a favor and buy the "right tool for the job", namely a Mac Pro. My iMac does a nice job for what I paid for it, but if it was paying my bills, I'd upgrade without hesitation.
However you end up deciding to go, enjoy your new Mac!

  • If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work?

If I update to Snow Leopard, will final cut pro still work? My current version of Final Cut Pro is 6.0.6. Thanks.

Apple is not telling you the Complete story about Lion.
The installer for FCP 6 is Power PC code/ IBM CPU code, which Lion does not support.
FCP 6 is NOT Power PC code, it will run on Lion and Mountain Lion, as I have read on many posts.
    The solution??
Solution condition where FCP 6 installed and upgrading OS to Lion
Do nothing, its already running OK
Solution condition where FCP 6 not installed and OS Lion installed.
Connect a firewire drive to your MAC and install the old OS on it (eg snow leopard) ,
    Reboot to that OS
    Install FCP 6
Reboot to your new OS   (EG Lion)
    Run FCP 6

  • Who has Final Cut Studio 2 working perfectly?

Does anyone here have Final Cut Studio 2 working perfectly across the board? Meaning..All the effects, sound loops, templates, media...etc all show up with no problems except the occasional crash here and there.
I am about to reinstall the OSX from scratch to install Final Cut Studio properly. Also....I plan to install all of the option media on a seperate hard drive.
    Any suggestions? Advice?

For starters, I know its an error on my part. I am not talking about isntalling an upgrade. I recenlty brought Final Cut 2 academic. I know Final Cut Studio when it comes to the actual editing process, I just need help with the installation process.
My Final Cut Studio is is still very very usable...I prodcued an entire pageant with it. I just want it to work perfectly. In Motion...some of the media is missing, in soundtrack, some of the music files are missing.
When I installed updates for Final Cut and Motion.....motion started crashing and certain effects stopped showing up in Final Cut. I solved the Fianl Cut Problem, but still have hte missing media problem in motion.
Also, I installed all the optional media on my internal hard drive. 120 to be exact. Now I am down to 2 gig of space.
I am goign to buy a portable hard drive and store the optional media on there along with video, render files, etc.
What I am asking is....for the people who have Final Cut Studio 2 working properly...can you guys tell if you installed any final cut studio updates...if so which ones....also, what version of the OSX are you guys running.
I am really not frustrated are mad....I know it's error on my part....now....I am trying to get it right.

  • Will Final Cut Pro X work with Yosemite

Will Final Cut Pro X work with Yosemite?

me too version 10.8. It would have been nice to know yosemite was going to crap out my primary video editing software! I use this for my video editing for my business video production and it would have been nice to know ahead of time or here's a crazy idea how about the software developers who are making millions off final cut pro sales release a fix BEFORE apple roles out yosemite for free. I don't have time to chase down every blog in the world to see issues etc. The reason I bought a mac is I just need it to work so I can work on my business.

  • Does Final Cut Studio 2 work with Lion?

Does Final Cut Studio 2 work with Lion?

As Final Cut Studio consists of several applications, either go to your System Profiler under Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and select Applications to determine which applications are PowerPC, or visit this website and check the version info of each application to see what works and what doesn't:

  • Will an older "Time Capsule" work with Mountain Lion?

will an older "Time Capsule" work with Mountain Lion?

It should do. Depends on how you define an 'older' TC. As long as your SW is up to date and the TC has relatively recent Firmware etc then there shouldn't be an issue.
Are you having a problem with yours or just curious before you upgrade the OS?

  • Will Final Cut Studio do the job?

    Hi
I've been using imovie for small easy projects for a number of years now and its great. However recently I filmed a wedding for some friends and need a program with a little more punch to do a professional job.
Firstly is Final Cut Studio accessible for a novice like me?
There are a few things I need to fix in post production that imovie just can't do. For example there are certain points where I need to eradicate bad camera shake. The other main problem is the sound. I recorded the sound separately on an audio device but for whatever reason the wav file is extremely quiet when played back. Therefore I need something to boost the sound. Is there anything in Final Cut Studio that will do this? These are the two big problems, there are other things like blond hair glair but I can sort that out later! Is Final Cut Studio right for me and do I have to be a computer genius in order to use it?
can anyone suggest any good books to purchase to help use the program.
    Thanks
    Kev

My friend has a new boxed Final Cut Express 4 (he hasn't even opened it!) he will sell to me dirt cheap so would the quality be better for importing on that?
Go for it! Although I said earlier to stay with iMovie, given you are using DV tape you are no doubt better off with FCE due to the quality difference when using DV (when compared to iMovie '09). As I mentioned, I'm happy with iMovie '09 as I'm using AVCHD and get great results. I continue to use iMovie HD 6 for DV, although just for some early projects that need to be edited or completed.
Otherwise how do I go about getting iMovie HD 6?
Users in the iMovie forums recommend eBay, as it is no longer available from Apple. However, as it is now a product not supported by Apple, you will be better off using Final Cut Express 4 - particularly as you can get it from your friend at a great price! Follow Ian's advice and work through the Izzy Video free tutorials - it appears to be an excellent resource.

  • Will Final Cut Studio 2 HD and FCP 7 Upgrade load on newest OS?

I have Final Cut Studio HD and an FCP 7 Upgrade on my old system.  Looking to buy a new iMac and wondered if I could load Studio 2 and FCP 7 on the newest OS?
    Any insight is appreciated!

Forgot to mention, although it will install it isn't officially supported by Apple anymore. Just in case someone jumps in to point it out.

  • Will Final Cut Studio port from Tiger to Leopard

I recently migrated to a new Mac w/*Leopard (10.5.4)*. I used Migration Assistant to port all my files and applications, including *Final Cut Studio*. Final Cut Pro works fine, as does Live Type.
I cannot submit batches to *Compressor (2.0.1)*. This is a known problem, with a solution posted by Apple Support (reinstalling Compressor and Qmaster and updating both to 2.0.1. I've done that and also fixed all disk permissions. That having failed, I completely reinstalled FCS and performed all updates -- same result.
Apple has a support article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307134), which states "+Compressor/Apple Qmaster versions 2.3 and earlier and version 3.0 are not supported on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard+."
Since +there is no upgrade+ beyond 2.0.1 for Final Cut Studio (as opposed to FCS 2), is this a "back-door" way of "warning" folks that you cannot migrate FCS to Leopard without upgrading (for $499) to FCS2? I'd like to know before I shell out $499; I'd be really upset if I bought the upgrade and it still wouldn't work!!!

Thanks for the vote for FCS2, though I wouldn't have made the computer purchase if I'd known I would have to buy the FCS upgrade at the same time. I hear you about migration assistant.
