Will Firefox 4 support autoconfig (aka Mission Control)?

I am interested in configuring Firefox for users and locking down certain settings. It appears that the folder referenced in http://mit.edu/~firefox/www/maintainers/autoconfig.html is not present on the Firefox 4 Beta install.
Will Firefox 4 support autoconfig, and if so will updated documentation be posted for that when Firefox 4.0 is released?

  • Will Firefox ever support WebKit?

I'm using Sencha Touch, a JS framework based on WebKit. It works in nearly all other browsers, but Firefox. Will FF ever support WebKit?

I doubt it. Mozilla uses Gecko, and I doubt if that will change.

  • When will Firefox 7 support websockets (like Safari and Chrome)?

A test query to websockets.org echo test gets the result: "...the browser doesn't have native support for WebSocket". The same test using Safari or Chrome on a Mac results in: "This browser supports WebSocket". Same problem whether on OS X 10.6 or 10.7. When will Firefox 7 catch up to Safari and Chrome?

In Firefox you need to use MozWebSocket.

  • I use Norton Security, a pop window appears to enter my password so that all log-in names & password will be automatically entered for all applications, will Firefox 4 support this feature?

In Norton Security, there is a feature called "Web Protection Log In" where a pop window appears then I enter a password only once as soon as I log in. This feature will automatically fill in my log-in name and password to all applications I use just as ATT.net. Will I be able to have this feature in Firefox 4 ?

    You're welcome.

  • When will firefox stop supporting 3rd party cookies by default much like Safari does now?

Safari by default doesn't accept 3rd party cookies and there have been reports that Firefox will follow suit. Any information in terms of the timeline as to when this will come into effect would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,

You will probably see the change to only allow third-party cookies from visited sites in Firefox 26 (currently on the Aurora update channel).

  • Will firefox still support flash content when my phone updates to 4.1 (jellybean)?

Does Firefox use it's own flash plugin or will it be disabled when my phone updates?

Generally, no. The problem is not with Firefox. It is an Adobe decision. Read Adobe's statement below
    *Adobe's statement --> https://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012/06/flash-player-and-android-update.html
**Quote from Adobe statement above: ''If a device is upgraded from Android 4.0 to Android 4.1, the current version of Flash Player may exhibit unpredictable behavior, as it is not certified for use with Android 4.1. Future updates to Flash Player will not work. We recommend uninstalling Flash Player on devices which have been upgraded to Android 4.1.''

  • Will Firefox Hello support screen sharing via video chat?

First of all let me say a BIG thank you to all the developers who contribute to Firefox (and all Mozilla projects for that matter). I know countless dev hours goes into the project and I really appreciate all your hard work.
To my question, I realize Firefox Hello is based on the webRTC standard and there are a many other options available for screencasting, but it would be incredibly convenient to have that feature natively built into Hello. Are there any plans to support screen sharing in the future?

hi, yes screensharing features are in the roadmap for firefox hello (and already present in development versions of the browser) - this feature might land in firefox 38.

  • Will Firefox be supporting the Norton Toolbar again soon?

I updated to Firefox 4.0 and had to uninstall it because it does not support my Norton toolbar. I also noticed that the new version also does not support the yahoo toolbar or Facebook toolbar. I don't really care about the Facebook toolbar, but I use the others every day. I also do not care for the new page layout although I could get used to it. Having the tabs at the very top of the page seems cumbersome.

It is down to Norton to add support. Norton have indicated they plan to release an update to Norton 360 to support Firefox 4 in early May - http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100720113635EN&ln=en_US
You can right-click on a toolbar and de-select "Tabs on Top" if you want.

  • Will there be Mission Control for Java 7?

Will there be a release of Mission Control that works with Java 7? If so, when?
I understand from this page, http://blogs.oracle.com/henrik/entry/java_7_questions_answers , that there will be no JRockit for Java 7 since it is being merged with HotSpot but I see no indication when Mission Control will support the new merged JDK.

We're working on merging JRockit features into HotSpot, and supporting these with a new version of Mission Control.
Flight Recorder will come in a JDK 7 update.

  • Frustrating lack of support for Mission Control / Spaces on Mac OS

I'm posting this on the InDesign board, but this question applies equally to all apps in the Creative Suite.
Is there any way to make InDesign/Creative Suite work properly with Spaces (a feature that has been around for years now)? It is incredibly frustrating to not be able to use this excellent organisational aid with any of the Adobe apps. There seems to be a whole mishmash of problems with it, from pallettes disappearing and moving to a different space to the document you are working on, to entire apps not being visible in Mission Control. Not to mention problems when trying to hide/unhide apps.
When I'm working with any other apps on my system, I can take advantage of Mission Control, but have forego these advantages when using the Creative Suite. Isn't it really about time that Adobe put some effort into supporting these OS-level features. Whether you favour Mac OS or Windows, you should be able to take advantages of the system you prefer to work on.
Is there any word on whether CS6 will support these features? (I'm not exactly holding my breath).
    Thanks.

There is no word on anything about InDesign CS6 yet. (Those who know can't say, and I'm not aware of any substantive leaked information.)
I think that Spaces/Mission Control support is probably predicated on the Carbon to Cocoa conversion. So until InDesign is a Cocoa app, this is unlikely to improve. Personally I manage to avoid using Spaces to any significant degree, so I don't really notice these things. Have you tried Photoshop, which is a Cocoa app? Does it behave better?
I don't know to what extent these issues are specific to the app, or all tied up in libraries that are common to all the Adobe apps.

  • Will Firefox for PC support Android apps?

Am looking ahead to replace igoogle. I was hoping that Firefox could support installing some simple apps like weather, movies, news, gmail... etc.

You can't install an Android App on your PC (that's isn't Firefox's fault, that's just not possible). However, if you want to replace igoogle, there are a few things you can do:
You can install an addon, go to addons.mozilla.org and install an addon that does what you want.
Find a website alternative to iGoogle.
In the future we are working on getting some improvements in Firefox that will give you more control over creating features like this :) look forward to those soon!
