Will Firefox Sync require a sync key in the final release?

I find the sync key very annoying. It seems to me that it would be better to just be able to provide an email address and a password to sync data. Why haven't the developers implemented sync in such a way?

Your suggestion makes too much sense for Mozilla, I doubt if it will be considered.
You might want to look into this sync service instead.
• Adobe Encore CS4: End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point

Error screen:
Error I’m getting for section titled Notes (PP 45 second video): “End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point.”
The icon that shows error is in top line second from end. I’m trying to 'end action' that portion of the video by going back to 'menu default'; also tried end action w/ ‘Stop’ and neither work.
I saw a post about checking timeline. Not sure what I’m looking for there. I have nothing in Orphanage area. I also tried building despite Check Project error and it will not build project. Any suggestions on how to fix: “End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point.”?

Select chapter one on that timelne. Look in the properties panel. Does it have an end action? You do not want an end action on the chapter; just on the timeline itself.
That will not generally prevent a build, however. So you may have other issues.

• End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point

I will be referring to this video:
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-encore-cs4/creating-an-event-dvd/
I followed this exactly, except for the slide show (and I made a DVD instead of flash), but when I checked the project, I get the error message "End action will not execute because of end action on the final chapter point".
I don't understand. I did not change any end points except for the one specified in this tutorial. (About the Max footage for the very beginning, before the menu). If anything was added, it was Adobe's doing.
I do notice that in 00:04 in the tutorial, there's a downward arrow on the very end of the timeline. My timeline does not have this. How was this done?
In the Encore software, after the timeline is loaded, there is no arrow at the very end. Mine doesn't have that either.
I'm finding Adobe/Encore's way of making menus rather difficult. With Pinnacle Studios (at least through 8-12), making menus was easy, and it set up the chapters for you. Why can't there be an automated menu feature in Encore?
Anyway, here's my project:
Main time line has 9 chapters. When clicking on their chapter points, all say End Action: not set.
When I click on the white bar above the lite purple footage of the time line, where the chapter point's bottom rest, it says, End Action: Not Set AND Menu Remote: Return to Last Menu.
All 9 chapter points are white.
In the flowcart, there is the DVD icon --> my few seconds opening credits --> menu that has a Play All and Scene Selection button
Play All goes to first chapter of video
Scene Selection (submenu #1) goes to 6 scenes, a next, previous, main menu. All seem to be linked properly.
Scene Selection for scenes 7-9 are in the #2 submenu. Has a previous button and a main menu button. All seem to be linked properly.
Can anyone offer any advice? Help? I need to make this DVD and two others by the end of the week!
If you need more information, please let me know that too.

If I make a change in the timeline in Premiere, will that new change be reflected in the timeline of Encore?
If you used Adobe Dynamic Link, then yes, the Timeline will be updated. If you did not, then you will need to Export again, then Import into Encore. Watch out if you have already Transcoded, etc., and I'd name the new Timeline Export differently, Import that, use Replace Asset. When a Project is very new, and nothing much has been done, it will not be so picky. After a couple of links, etc., it gets VERY picky, and Replace Asset will help.
Is there a way to reload the project without having to redo all the menus and links?
If you did a Save_As, or still have your original Project, i.e. you started a completely new Project with a unique name, you can go back to the original.
Hope that helps,
Hunt

• Where is the recovery key for the final step in the sync setup?

I have account from a previous attempt. On device one, I go to set up sync. I answer I have an account [attempt to reset the account resulted in "email address already in use" error]. Device 1 shows three pair a device codes.
Device 2: I go to the Firefox home page. I choose sync at the bottom, and enter the three codes on device number 2. I then answer that I have an account, enter my user name and password, and am asked for a recovery key which is to be found under sync options on device one. It is not: all I have are the options for what data is to be migrated [and I checked all].
How do I complete the sync procedure?

"I don't have the devise with me" should be a link at the bottom of the page that open if you click "I have an account" on the initial setup page.

Hi asduane,
Sorry you are having problems.
I guess you have picked up some sort of adware or malware. Try to check and get reviews on both software and download sites. Then take care to read the small print about what is being installed.
Run scans with multiple and up-to-date tools. Hopefully it will be easily detected and removed. I would not suggest you try any manual hacks or edits of the Windows registry. (Once rogue files are removed any residual registry entry will not normally do any harm.)
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* [http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/default.aspx Microsoft Safety Scanner]
* [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]

* [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ AdwCleaner: (for adware)]
* [http://www.kaspersky.com/security-scan Kaspersky Free security scan]
You need to use multiple and up-to-date tools as they will not all pick up the same things.

Will Mozilla ever make an official and tested ROM/Image that will work on the Nexus line of phones/tablets such as the Nexus/Nexus 4/Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013 editions with cellular)? I'm testing Ubuntu Touch on a Galaxy Nexus and have installed Ubuntu for ARM on my 2012 Nexus 7 Wifi+3G. I'm also looking at some point to play with Replicant and F-Droid.

Was looking for either a pre-compiled .zip file to install via custom recovery or .img file(s) to flash via ADB myself

The solution is simple. Go to Tools, select Options, a window will pop up. Click Advanced, select Update tab. In the options 'Automatically check updated to', uncheck 'Firefox'. Click Ok, you're done. :)

• On Aug. 24, Firefox showed a start-up screen. The last release was Aug.16. What is going on?

When there is an update, why isn't it clearly labelled or contain a link to show users that the update is legitimate? In this case, why did I get an update eight days after the release?

no, for end users i'd just recommending leaving the automatic updates on - the updates normally get downloaded and applied silently in the background and get installed when you restart the browser once (so there shouldn't be many warning messages or dialogues out of the box anyway). the method to manually check if an update is available in ''help > about firefox'' was meant as a way for you to quickly check if a notice about the update is a legit one.
to my knowledge one week until an update is getting "un-throttled" to all users is a normal timespan for scheduled X.0 releases. the update on august 16th was a X.0.1 bugfix update though - i don't know if they are handled the same way...

• Using a byte[] as a secondary index's key within the Collection's API

I am using JE 4.1.7 and its Collections API. Overall I am very satisfied with the ease of using JE within our applications. (I need to know more about maintenance, however!) My problem is that I wanted a secondary index with a byte[] key. The key contains the 16 bytes of an MD5 hash. However, while the code compiles without error when it runs JE tell me
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: ONE_TO_ONE and MANY_TO_ONE keys must not have an array or Collection type: example.MyRecord.hash
See test code below. I read the docs again and found that the only "complex" formats that are acceptable are String and BigInteger. For now I am using String instead of byte[] but I would much rather use the smaller byte[]. Is it possible to trick JE into using the byte[]? (Which we know it is using internally.)

MyRecord r = new MyRecord();
r.id = id;
r.hash = hash;
return r;

SecondaryIndex<byte[], Long, MyRecord> hashToMyRecordIndex = myRecordEntityStore.getSecondaryIndex(idToMyRecordIndex, byte[].class, "byHash");
// END

We have highly variable length data that we wish to use as keys. To avoid massive index sizes and slow key lookup we are using MD5 hashes (or something more collision resistant should we need it). (Note that I am making assumptions about key size and its relation to index size that may well inaccurate.)Thanks for explaining, that makes sense.
It would be the whole field. (I did consider using my own key data design using the @Persistent and @KeyField annotations to place the MD5 hash into two longs. I abandoned that effort because I assumed (again) that lookup with a custom key design would slower than the built-in String key implementation.)A composite key class with several long or int fields will not be slower than a single String field, and will probably result in a smaller key since the UTF-8 encoding is avoided. Since the byte array is fixed size (I didn't realize that earlier), this is the best approach.

• 5.3.1 is the final version that will support...

Hello -
I am very upset to discover that Cisco will no longer be supporting new software releases beyond 5.3.1 on the hardware that is widely deployed in my environment, including the core which is a pair of 7371 at 2 datacenter locations. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Why would the WAVE-574/674 that just came out maybe 4-5 years ago not support anything beyond 5.3.1? What about version 6 coming out next year? What does this say about the future for WAAS?
Cisco WAAS, Release 5.3.1 is the final version that will support the WAE-674, WAE-7341, WAE-7371, WAVE-274, WAVE-474, and WAVE-574 platforms.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v531/release/notes/ws531xrn.html#wp63349
The last day of hardware support is not until August 31, 2017. So am I supposed to be stuck on 5.3.1 for the next 4 years and not take advantage of any new feature sets in the upcoming major releases? It's not like the WAVE series doesn't have enough CPU/memory to handle thew newer versions. I know the 7371 comes with plenty of juice to be able to support any new features you throw at it.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/contnetw/ps5680/ps6474/eol_c51-700260.html

The WAE 274/474/574/674/7341/7371 all reached End of Sale in August 2012. WAAS release 5.3.x is the final release which will support these now end of sale platforms. The announcement for WAAS release 5.3.x in the release notes as being the final release supporting these now end of sale platforms is to assist customers in proper migration and software upgrade planning.
Cisco has provided major feature functionality well after the end of sale for the WAE 274/474/574/674/7341/7371 in August 2012, for example WAAS release 5.1 in December 2012 and release 5.2 in June 2013 were released well after the end of sale and provided new major features and functionality for the now end of sale WAE 274/474/574/674/7341/ 7371.
These end of sale platforms will continue to be supported in the WAAS release 5.3.x maintenance release-train cycle which will continue with software maintenance releases in accordance with standard Cisco policy for software end of sale. Software maintenance releases will continue in the WAAS release 5.3.x until the end of sale for WAAS release 5.3.x is announced and the end of sale milestone is reached at a later date and the now end of sale platforms will continue to be supported with release 5.3.x as needed.
This is NOT an announcement of stopping support for these now end of sale platforms and these platforms will continue to be supported in release 5.3.x. At a later date the end of sale/support for release 5.3.x will be considered/announced and after the first year after the end of sale for release 5.3.x we will provide bug fixes, maintenance releases, workarounds or patches for a period of 4 years in accordance with standard Cisco end of sale policy.

• Got Firefox Sync but lost my Key how can i get my data back without delete everything ?

My computer was deleted, i don't have any others devices ? How can i get back my information.
Apparently, there is no solution, this is shame. Why in my account i can't get back my key https://account.services.mozilla.com/ ? This service is useless if when we have a problem (all devices stolen for example) we can't get back any information...
I'm really disappointed, and so are others people as far as i can see. I have to start from the beginning all my bookmarks, so i will use Chrome from now. Thanks a lot Mozilla.

Sorry, but you're using Sync incorrectly if you don't have any other devices connected to that Sync account.
Sync wasn't intended to be a "cloud" storage device; it's intended to be used to "synchronize" a user's across multiple devices. Upon completion of the initial setup of Sync procedure, the user is shown the Recovery Key and is told to make a copy of that "key". There are buttons in the dialog window to "save" to disk or to "print" the Recovery Key. Unfortunately, too many users just ignored that message (or ignored it) and put themselves in the same position that you are now in - lost data and no way to recover that data.
The Sync / Recovery Key is used to encrypt your data as it is being uploaded to the Sync server and then used to decrypt your data when it is downloaded to one of your devices. Without the exact Sync Key that the user's data was encrypted with, the user's data is useless scrambled bunch of 1's and zero's.
Firefox 29 has a new version of Sync that eliminates the need for the user knowing their Recovery Key. The method that generates that "key" uses the user account name (email address) and the user password, so in the future user's shouldn't find themselves in the same position that you are now in.
''IMO, Mozilla provided too much security by having that 3rd security "key" (the Recovery Key), considering how many user's aren't using Sync as it was intended to be used.''

• How do I get the android version of Firefox to show my sync key OR export my bookmarks?

This is so aggravating, I have spent hours and hours now trying to get my bookmarks out of my Android device, to no avail.
There are two addons out there, none of which work with the current version (18) of FF.
So I took the about:synckey plugin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/aboutsynckey/) and updated the install.rdf with the android GUID and bumped the em:MaxVersion. Now it installed! WOHO!
But didn't work. :-(
Googling I managed to find a post in http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/941765?page=2 where cor-el points out that the code is wrong. So I make the fix: The call to get the key should supposedly be 'Weave.Utils.hyphenatePassphrase(Weave.Identity.syncKey)'.
I reinstall and try again, but no dice. I try to insert an alert. No dice. The Javascript doesn't seem to fire.
I try on the desktop, and it works! Well, I don't have a key, but the alert fires as least.
Does Android require signed packages for JS to run, or what am I missing here?
The fact that there is no way to get the sync key out of FF for android NOR export bookmarks is, to use a strong word, retarded. Googling around there are many many threads from people who have, like me, lost their recovery key. It's aggravating because the data is there. I have my bookmarks on the device. I know the key is in there or it couldn't decode them. There's just no way to get at it because everything is locked down.
The JS looks like this (oh great, no preview here. How nice):

One thread suggested 'jailbreaking' and then somehow exporting the sql-lite(?) database containing the key, extracting it from there. I'm not doing that. This isn't supposed to be hard, this is supposed to be three clicks and you're done.
For the love of all that is holy, someone add Export Bookmarks to the Android version so we can get on with our lives.

This is because the directions you are seeing are out of date. They applied to Firefox < 10.
The only way to get data out of the Firefox for Android profile is to use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/addon/copy-profile/
This data is not directly importable into Firefox desktop. It would require some inspection of the SQLite databases to accomplish what you want to do.
