Will flashing fix USB connectivity

Hi folks,
I have been trying to find an answer to why USB connectivity on my n900 stopped a few days ago.
It was all working fine, however now when I connect my phone to any computer by USB I get the "charging" notification but that is all. I don't get the "PC Suite" or "Mass Storage" options appearing at all.
When I try to browse the phone in windows explorer the drives are visible but when I try to open them I get a small message saying:
"Please insert a disk into removeable disk (G"
I have tried browsing the drives using different cables, different computers, Win7 32 & 64bit editions, Vista, XP and Linux Mint 7. No dice on any of them.
I have not found a fix anywhere and I'm aware there are many people with this same issue. I would really like to hear from someone who had this problem and fixed it. I don 't particularly want to flash it if it isn't going to fix the problem.

It is possible that flashing might solve the problem.. but it isn't clear from what you've said where the problem actually is.
it could be your windows machine. If it isn't presenting itself correctly, the phone won't be triggered into displaying the correct "mass storage/pc suite" buttons..
It could be the phone.. the software, for some reason, is preventing it from jumping into USB mode correctly
It could, and this is a significant possibility, be a hardware fault. the N900 USB connector is terrible.. it is held onto the circuit board using not much more than the copper tracks.. A not insignificant number of people have reported the socket actually comming out of the phone, other report it as loose or intermittent..

One more thing to consider, if your device is not seeing your computer, a reflash isn't going to be possible!
You can use the flasher command to "probe" your phone..
run
flasher-3.5 -i
to query the phone without flashing..
If you get some positive feedback from that, then you can probably try flashing too..

Hello everyone, I have a iPod 4th gen grayscale and I'm running Ubuntu, everything has worked well for about a year now, I have been syncing my iPod through VirtualBox with Windows XP for as long as I have been using Linux, though, for some reason, my iPod has stopped noticing my usb being connected, I know it's not the usb cable, or the usb ports, I have restarted my iPod and put it into disk mode, still no luck, restarted my computer, Linux will not detect anything plugged in, nor will Windows, though my iPod shows the battery charging when plugged in, but iTunes will not detect the iPod.
I have switched the hard drive of the iPod out seeing if that was the problem, still no luck, my car dock will pick up the iPod and play music, so will my other docks, I thought it might of been Linux at first, so I plugged it into my desktop with Vista, it also will not detect it.
Does anyone have an answer to this riddle?

A bad USB hub will cause the problem ... are you using it ??

Will not charge on any charger - will charge on USB connected to PC

iPod Classic (60 GB Photo) will not charge on ANY charger - usb, firewire or car charger, I tried multiple versions of all of them, but it will charge when connected to my USB port on my PC.
When connected to a charger, is shows that it is charging but it doesn't. It doesn't matter if the battery is dead, 1/2 charged or 3/4 charged, it leaves the iPod battery in the same state, not charging at all, no matter how long it is left connected.
It charges perfectly normally when connected to a USB port on a PC.
It's not the chargers not the cables since I've tried different ones.

I have the same problem with ipod nano.
When I connect itt o mains USB charger the ipod switches on and is in pause mode but appears to be charging.
After a few minutes the ipod switches off and the screen is just black with no charging indicated.
If I set it to play then after a while the charging logo goes off and it just runs on the battery until it is dead.
If I switch off the ipod then it goes to black screen.
This is different behaviour from connecting to USB on a computer, where the
charging persists. Even if you switch the ipod off then it still shows a charging logo.
It seems like the computer is supplying a signal to keep the ipod awake and that it does not get from the mains USB supply.

N97 usb connectivity issues

Hi,
I've had my N97 for about a week now and am having some serious USB connectivity issues with the phone in that when I connect to my PC, on the first occasion it will recongnise the USB connection, but if it gets disconnected it subsequently won't reconnect. This means I am unable to install the latest version of the firmware which appears to address some USB issues. I've tried both version 1 and the beta 2 Ovi suite.
Any ideas??

Me and my friend at work got the same STUPID problem. We unpacked our phones, connected them and upgraded FW and got everything setup (mail, music etc.)
Now I got back to work and thought that it was no problem plugging in my phone and update it with some new music and contacts...well was I wrong...the stupid 7000 SEK phone won't even take the electricity and charge...I get no connection to the PC...it worked fine 2 days ago...
So I try to install the stuff on the CD again, no luck....I tell Windows to add new hardware, nowhere on the Internet and nowhere on the CD are there drivers to be found...
So here I am with a million dollar phone I can't connect to my PC...what the hell is this???
Looking in this thread and seeing the answers I should not hold my breath waiting for this to be fixed...but my question is: Will I have to wait for a FW update for this phone to connect to my PC?

My Mac Mini will charge - but not sync with - USB-connected devices (ipod, camera, memory card reader). I have tried unplugging the devices, restarting the computer, selectively unplugging and plugging in the devices, closing and opening the relevant applications (iTunes, iPhoto, etc). I have tried using different USB cables.
It's like all of a sudden the synching service stopped functioning or recognizing these devices for some reason. The other ports work just fine (monitor).
The only USB-connected external device that appears to be unaffected is the USB SuperDrive and it works on all the USB ports into which I plug it.
How do I fix this?

Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens or doesn't happen.

I can no longer control my music through my car's stereo system. I am unable to choose what song, album, playlist, etc. to be played and cannot skip songs. When I try to skip, it reverts back to the first song. When I choose what to be played directly on my phone, it can only be played for about 30 seconds through my car's stereo system before it stops and displays the message "Unsupported Version." How can this be fixed? (Also, I know it is my iPhone and not my car because someone I know has the same exact car as me from 2009 and it did the same thing on theirs.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This problem is extremely frustrating and the alternative of trying to change music directly on my phone while driving is a risk I am not willing to consider. Thanks!

Alright, sorry for not having browsed this page a bit more before stating my question. I have just found some other similar topics on this problem. Please don't reply this thread unless there actually is a solution to the problem, because at current time there is not.

In Windows 7 64-bit Bootcamp 5 my USB connected mouse intermittently clicks the left-button without my input. How do I fix?

Some details:
-I've tried with two different mice, one cordless USB connected, one corded and both had the problem.
-A reboot of the system usually fixes the problem for awhile.
-I tried downloading the updated drivers (5.0.5033) but get an error message when trying to install ("Bootcamp x64 is unsupported on this computer model") and I'm not even sure if the drivers will fix the issue anyway

I use an iMac 10.6.8 with iPhoto '09 to download digital images from Canon DSLRs. Until the last two weeks there has been no trouble whatever importing images by a USB connection from either camera to the Mac. Now the process will not kick in. Any ideas?

Now the process will not kick in at all for either camera. I can't find a solution through iPhoto help or from other sources.
Any ideas to fix? (I admit I have not tested the USB cable at this time).

What does "kick in" mean?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.

X120e - Will a USB-connected Cardbus Cisco Aironet card go around whitelist restrictions?

I have a x120e that I'm trying to get with Cisco LEAP security. The Cisco Aironet (AIR-CB21AG-A-K9) cardbuss card will connect to LEAP but I'm wondering if connecting this cardbus card to the x120e via a Cardbus to USB adapter will allow me to connect this WiFi card to the x120e. I have run up against the whitelist restrictions when I tried to replace the half mini PCI card with an Intel WiFi card. I haven't quite worked up the courage to flash the BIOS with a new adapter name. DaveM

I have not heard of anyone using that particular solution. Perhaps you could test it and let us know the results.
Have you looked for an external USB Wi-Fi adapter that supports Cisco LEAP protocol? I would think that would be easier to use, though, not to mention more convient to carry around, especially with a USB extension cable or right-angle adapter.

Will this fix my internet connection problems?

My common problem is that I lose my wireless networks. All available networks no longer show up on my bar. Restarting sometimes works, it seems like I just need to turn the computer off for about 20 minutes; then I can get online for about 30sec to 20min. I've tried all the software based fixes I've seen online to no avail. I'm sure something would work on just my home network but I need internet on campus and I'm getting nothing.
Here's my potential fix:
Will an external USB wifi adapter fix the issue?
My professors don't believe that I'm using my iPhone for classwork.

Having the same issue for a few months also. Have my black MB since May, 2006. Worked fine up to about 4 months ago. Tried different routers, no change, Did all of the other fixes as mentioned on the above threads. temporarily fixed, but, then back to intermittent. Last week, I hooked up a D-Link wireless G usb adapter to see if there would be any change. This thing works flawlessly, all the time. It's model#: D-Link WUA1340. But, over the last week or so, my Airport connection has been very stable. NO dropouts. Can't explain why. Very mysterious.

You will need to install the printer on your Mac
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
Open Print & Fax
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list
Wait for your printer to appear in the next box, then click it to highlight it
Click Add at the lower right
Be sure to select the correct printer when you try to print as you will see your printer listed twice. Good idea to make the printer now installed on your Mac the default printer so you do not have to choose which printer to use each time you want to print.
You can also go into Print & Fax, select the printer associated with the Time Capsule and click the - (minus) button if you want to delete that location.
