Will font book 2.1 import into Lion?

Transferring files from my vintage (2006) MacBook Pro to iMac (10.7).  Is there a way to save/import the extensive font collection (fontbook 2.1) I have accumulated?   Any help would be appreciated!!

You may have accidentally brought over Leopard versions of programs during the migration, overwriting the Lion versions. Unless you have another way of restoring the correct versions, you best bet would be to boot to the recovery partition and reinstall Lion.

  • Live Type fonts break up upon import into NLE

So I create a title in Live Type - Preset: CCIR 601 NTSC sq. 4:3, Field Dom: Lower, with alpha channel - nothing major, just a little effect on a white font. I render it out and look at it in the preview window - perfect, crystal clear! However, when I import it into whatever NLE I am using, the import becomes jagged, like a field order problem. I use AVID MC 2.6 and Final Cut Pro 5. Regardless in both they do the same.
I have a sony trintron monitor and turned it on after reading a similar post. Same thing. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Sean

    Anomaly_7,
The AVID editors I work with use the Live Type graphics I create all the time. These LT graphics incorporate movement, effects, textures and they all work in AVID.
The AVID used here is the Symphony Version #5.
To match the AVID Import Settings we have here just click options. [It's in the lower left hand of the box]
    Then set as follows:
    1. Aspect + Ratio Pixel Aspect>select 601 non-square
    2. Color Levels > select 601
    3. File Field Order > select Even (Lower Field)
    4. Alpha > select Invent Existing
One more suggestion is to change your deck preferences to drop frame and use the default settings in LT.
Please report back whether this works for you or not.
    Good Luck

  • How can I get Font Book to install new fonts with Lion OS X without crashing?

Font Book is unresponsive using Lion 10.7.1. When I click on Font Book icon in the dock, I get "Application not Responding". Can't install any new fonts. Anyone else having this issue?
I can get to the open Font Book window if I click on Mission Control to get there, but once there I see spinning wheel, which does not stop.
Any suggestions on how to get Font Book to work well on Lion?

Quick update... I removed all non System fonts from ~/Library/Fonts and deleted com.apple.fontbook.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.
Now FontBook doesn't crash when launched.
I think I'm going to use a 3rd party application to manage all non Apple/System fonts. Hopefully that will avoid any future problems.

  • H.264 will not import into DVDSP?

So I have been searching several discussion forums and the question I have seems to pop up in each of them, but is never answered???
Simply put, I have a FCP 6 project sequence that is 720p24frame which is an editing timebase of 59.94 with an aspect ratio of 960by720.
This is an 8.5 minute piece so I know that it will fit onto a regular DVD-R.
So I go through compressor and compress it into both an MPEG2 and H.264 - each at an HD bit rate.
Then I set up an HD project in DVDSP and try to import the two. The MPEG goes in fine and burns with no problems. My BlueRay/HDDVD combo player is on its way in the mail so I can't test it, but it will not play in my SD DVD player. Then I try to import the H.264 - It states something to the effect of not a compatible format....
That is my question - Why will the H.264 not import into an HDDVD project in DVDSP - all of the settings are correct from the initial edit - through compressor - through DVDSP.
Thank you for anyone who can help - we have a large festival coming up that has the option of 35mm or HDDVDs (we cannot afford a print).

    So...this issue is somewhat solved.
I have done several exports using the provided H.264 presets then tweaking them each to my own set specifics. There are four places in the formats sections of compressor that have H.264 as a codec - one of these is for iPod and web so I disregarded that one completely.
I always applied the same settings as to have a control base when doing this experiement - I haven't done a science project in probably 15 years. I also pushed the bit-rates to the highest level.
After many hours in and out of compressor and DVDSP, I found only one of of the presets loaded properly into DVDSP - the 60min under HDDVD H.264 preset (altered to my higher bit-rate)
I am still waiting on my player to try it out, but it did burn fine. This is all so strange since all of my own settings (bit-rate) and other data was constant.
Oh well...at least I've got one test completely burnt.

  • Installed fonts not showing up in Font Book or other apps

I am having an issue where fonts will install, but not show up in Font Book.
I go into Font Book, go to File > Add Fonts..., navigate to a font file and click Open, the validating and installing windows will flash by, but the font will not appear in the list of All Fonts. The file will show up in ~/Library/Fonts/, but not in Font Book or any other apps.
Any clues as to what the issue is and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

I had thought of that, but they literally are nowhere to be found in the All Fonts list. I've looked through the entire list, as well as searching for the font, but nothing.
The Windows font was a font was a completely separate family not found on my Mac at all.
I tried installing different set of fonts (ran them through the Validator and then clicking install when they all checked out), and got the following in the console:

  • Deactivating Font Book

I got so fed up of Font Book I download another Font Management software. What I'd like to know is will Font Book still be running in the background as well as the new font software? One of the reasons why I was using Font Book was to deactivate all my fonts (2,700) so my Mac would run faster. So if it is still running this kind of defeats the object. And it won't let me delete it.

Yes, deleting the Font Book app is all it does. You can easily replicate it by opening Terminal and entering:
    sudo rm -r
Put a space after the -r, then drag and drop Font Book into Terminal. The path and its name will fill in for you the same as above. For this particular Unix command, it doesn't matter if the -r is upper or lower case.
As with deleting any item from the drive, you can't reverse it without returning the item to the drive. So if you think you may ever want to put Font Book back, copy the app to an external drive, first. All other components it relies on will still be on the drive. They'll just all be inert without the main app.
If you're wondering what the command means:
sudo (Super User DO). You're giving yourself temporary root privileges. Necessary in Terminal for this particular removal since your admin account doesn't have great enough permissions to delete the app.
    rm (remove)
-r Since it's an application package, there are more files within what you see as only one item on the desktop. If you didn't include this switch, which tells rm to remove any nested items, the command to delete Font Book would fail since it can't remove the top level item if it doesn't have permission to also remove the nested items.
Or you can skip Terminal entirely and remove Font Book from the desktop. Highlight Font Book and press Command+I, or choose Get Info from the menus (same thing). Click on the lock at the lower right and enter your admin password so you can alter the permissions. Change all of them to Read & Write. Close Get Info. You can now delete Font Book without the OS saying you can't.

  • Maximum number of photos that can be imported into an iPhoto library?

    1. Does iPhoto have a maximum number of files or photos that it can handle in a single library?
I have a lot of photos (20GB) that have not yet been imported into an iPhoto Library. I am going to set up a new library with the iPhoto Library Manager (iPLM), but am wondering if there is a maximum number of files that can be handled in a single library?
    2. Also, I don't think I want to import these, since that would create an iPhoto library as large as the source files. Are there any problems if I set up the preferences so that this library will not have the graphics imported into it?
    3. With iPLM, can you have different sets of preferences for each library?
Thank you for any advice or suggestions.

    1. Does iPhoto have a maximum number of files or photos that it can handle in a single library?
Apple advertises that iPhoto will handle 250,000 photos - I doubt that anyone has come close to that (or will)
I have 19,278 in 237 events - 22 GB - on a G5 iMac and it is snappy with no issues
I have a lot of photos (20GB) that have not yet been imported into an iPhoto Library. I am going to set up a new library with the iPhoto Library Manager (iPLM), but am wondering if there is a maximum number of files that can be handled in a single library?
If you want those should be fine in one library
    2. Also, I don't think I want to import these, since that would create an iPhoto library as large as the source files. Are there any problems if I set up the preferences so that this library will not have the graphics imported into it?
It is a choice - if you do NOT import them then you will be responsible for all future management - deleting, etc. Moving to a different location or computer is much more difficult if you reference your photos instead of importing them.
Many people import them, burn the original source photos to CD or DVD and delete them from their disk letting iPhoto manage them
    3. With iPLM, can you have different sets of preferences for each library?
I'm not sure but I do not think so

  • Appleworks / Font Book

Been adding new fonts to my Font Book. Some load into Appleworks Font menu...some do not. I've checked that they are clean...and they all are. Also, each of the new fonts does load into TextEdit's font menu. Wondering how I get all fonts to load into Appleworks too. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Lenny

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
AppleWorks builds its fonts list when it launches & cannont use fonts added while it is running. Even though AppleWlorks 6 runs natively in OS X, it really is an OS 8/9 program carbonized to run in OS X & hasn't been coded to take advantage of the "bells & whistles" of OS X.
Many users have found that AppleWorks has difficulties with more than approximately 150 fonts. I do have 217 fonts & haven't had a problem other than a couple of Windows TTF fonts that won't print from AppleWorks.

  • Some fonts won't import into font book

I am importing fonts, ttf files, into Font Book from the Vault of the discontinued font manager Fontcase. A few have brought up error messages, and I do not import them. But many more, maybe 20%, simply do not get imported; no error message appears. Some are a decade or more old, but all are ttf files and were imported into Fontcase without difficulty, back when.
Same thing happens whether I drag the fonts into FB or double click on the ttf file itself and click Import.
Why might this be, and what can I do about it?
    Using Font Book 5.0.1, OS X 10.9.4.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

From Kurt's excellent article (linked below).
Fonts which cannot be used in OS X:
Apple bitmapped fonts from OS 7.5 and earlier
Linux Type 1 PostScript - Paired fonts with .pfa and .afm extensions.
Type 3 PostScript - A fairly short lived PostScript variant. They allowed for the full use of the PostScript language such as shading, color and fill patterns. However, they lacked hinting, an important typography attribute. Obsolete.
Old, very old third party bitmapped fonts. Way back before TrueType or Type 1 PostScript fonts. There were no outline vector fonts for printing. Each point size for a typeface had to be built as a high resolution bitmap file from a companion program, or purchased separately. Good riddance.

  • How do I import addresses from Address Book Ver 4.1.2 to the Lion Address Book version 6.1? Lion will not allow me to open Address book Version 4.1.2

How do I import addresses from Address Book Ver 4.1.2 to the Lion Address Book version 6.1? Lion will not allow me to open Address book Version 4.1.2 to get to the addresses to copy

Do you have any addresses in the Lion version?
If not, copy the AddressBook folder from your username/Library/Application Support/ folder on the old mac (or backup).
Copy it to the same location on your new Mac, replacing the one that is there. Start Address Book in Mountain Lion and it should convert the files to the correct format.
If you do have addresses, it is a little more complicated.
First, create a Contacts Archive (from File>Export menu). This will be your backup.
Next, export the current contacts as vCards.
    Then, follow the steps above.
Then, import all the cards you exported. If you select all and double-click, it will ask if you want to add them. You'll then have to add them to whatever groups you had set up.

  • Font Book does not allow me to move fonts into categories.

I recently started using Pages to do some desktop publishing work and I decided it would help me out to make some font categories so I can find the fonts I need quickly. I set up the categories in Font Book, but after three tries in two days am about ready to pull my hair out. I can place one or two fonts into a category folder but then it stops working. I drag a single font to the folder, the plus sign shows up like it's moving but then it never shows up in that category. If I delete the category and start over, I can get one or two fonts into the folder and then it stops working again. I had them in categories on my older macbook and never had this issue.
I've tried restarting Font Book, restarting the computer and deleting the preference files. All my software is updated to the current versions. I've searched for this problem online and haven't found any help. I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice as to how to proceed. Thanks!

    Application corruption problems:
    Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library/Preferences for the .plist. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FontBook.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Import Address Book 4.0.6 into Address Book 4.1.2

My MacBookPro (purchased July 2007, don't know operating system) broke June 2009. Mac store put hard drive in an external case. I'm trying to import my contacts from the MacBookPro external hard drive Address Book 4.0.6 into my new imac desktop Mac OS X 10.5.8.
The new computer will not open the old Address Book at all. Can't read, can't export. The new Addresss Book 4.1.2 will not import or open the Old Addresss Book contacts. I've tried dragging too. I also tried to replace the new Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder with the old one from the external hard drive. Any ideas?

The new computer will not open the old Address Book at all. Can't read, can't export.
That's to be expected. Address Book 4.0.6 requires Mac OS X 10.4.x, so if you're not running that, you can't open it and export the contacts.
You need to install 10.4.x, open Address Book 4.0.6, export all the contacts as a single vCard file, then on a Mac with 10.5.8 installed, open Address Book 4.1.2, then drag & drop the vCard file onto the open Address Book window to import those contacts.

  • HT2509 Font Book vs Mountain Lion issue

Font Book keeps crashing as soon as it loads now that I have installed Mountain Lion. Is there a Font Book update that I need? I currently have Font Book 4.1
Using a 27" iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 with wireless keyboard. Don't seem to be able to do a Safe Reboot either.

You were right; corrupt fonts. Reloaded all fonts but did not validate any with issues. Seems to be fine now.
Until I need them again, of course. Which, most probably, will be in the near future.
Thanks for your help. I will persevere with Mountain Lion until something else goes haywire. Not impressed so far.

  • Problems Importing into Address Book

Trying to import my address book from a vcf file. I get the following error:
Are you sure you want to add 1511 cards to your address book? There were problems importing.
My address book file has 2308 cards, not 1511.
    Any suggestion

If you open Address Book, click on Card menuitem and select Edit Template. This will show you what the current template is and what fields may be added to the template.
You can then edit the LDIF file when it's created to select only the desired export fields that will match the template.
I believe when you then import into Address Book you will have an opportunity to match up the corresponding fields. Been so long since I did this I don't remember.

How can I import mail from Outlook for Mac into Lion Mail?

It is not Outlook that needs to be sync'd; it is the Exchange Server.  Find out from the System Administrator of the Exchange Server the EXTERNAL name and use that to setup a new mail account in Lion Mail.  I highlight the "external" because the URL used for Window's Outlook Clients will not work.  Try the webmail URL first.
