Will G4 Cube memory work in a G4 Quicksilver?

A friend of mine is going to give me 512mb of Kingston ram from a G4 Cube, this is the the chip he is giving me, http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/partsinfo.asp?root=&LinkBack=&k tcpartno=KTA-G4/512 can any of you tell me if this will work in my Powermac G4 Quicksilver? I dont want to just put it and see if it will work without fear of damaging the machine or the chip

It mainly depends on whether it's PC100 or PC133. The Cube takes PC100, although faster PC133 will work, so it's possible the memory is PC133. The Quicksilver takes faster PC133 only. The DIMM should have a sticker attached indicating the speed. It's unlikely you'd damage anything trying memory as DIMMs that use different voltages are generally keyed differently (the notches are in different positions), so they won't physically fit into the DIMM slots.

P6N SLI. Will G.Skill memory work with this board?

I have been an exclusive Asus MoBo user over the few years that I've been building my own rigs. Tom's Hardware has a good write-up on MSI boards and it caught my attention and interest, especially after comparing features versus cost as well as positive user reviews.
I'm wanting to build the next system around a Core 2 Duo and eventually include all that would be necessary for an efficient HD-DVD/BlueRay system.
After much comparing I've decided enthusiastically that I want a P6N SLI board. My current system is based on an Asus P5ND2-SLI board sporting a P4 630 CPU and 2 Raptors in RAID 0 configuration. It provides imagery via an EVGA 7800GT CO card. My last minute concern comes from narrow memory compatibility according to the MSI memory guide. This concerns me because my current system uses DDR2 memory and I just recently invested in two 1GB DDR2 667 G.Skill modules for it which I have yet to receive.
My enthusiasm for an MSI board...the one I want...was bolstered by the idea that I thought I could use these new memory modules in it. Not seeing G.Skill in the MSI memory list has dampened my enthusiasm.
If anyone knows if G.Skill will work in this MSI board I'd appreciate the renewal of excitement. Otherwill I'll just spent $20 more for an Asus board.

The thing is that it is not only a question of if G.Skill modules are supported or not but also a question of which specific model you are planning to install.

Will SUBMIT report EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY work, when Run in Background?

You can use SUBMIT <report> EXPORTING LIST TO MEMORY, and then Call the FM LIST_FROM_MEMORY to get the Data.
This works fine, when the Program is Run in Foreground. My question is, will it work when I Run the Program in Background? i.e. When I Run the Program in Background, will the SUBMIT Statement, Export the List to Memory? Because only then the FM LIST_FROM_MEMORY will get the Data.
Any alternate solution to meet the same requirement will be appreciated.

If I update to Lion from 10.6.8, will Adobe CS4 "upgrade" work?????

I have Adobe CS4 from an "upgrade". Will these adobe programs work if I upgrade to Lion? Please, need an answer ASAP, so I know whether to make my next computer a Mac or a PC!!!! It is absolutely ridiculous that my friend, who has at least 8 PC computers ( including business computers) is able to use all features of icloud using Win7(which is 16 months old), and I cannot use it on my "Apple" antique using 10.6.8(which is only 9 months old) (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) for the same purpose.
I have never even had a PC, always an Apple product. Now I get slapped in the face, HARD. Apple just killed me for EVER buying another Apple computer, if I am unable to use ICloud with my computers which WILL run my adobe products. I also have an IMac Intel Core duo 3.06, two IPads and a new Iphone. and now I am done with Apple products I guess, if I have to update to Lion to use ICloud with a computer. Especially if Lion doesn't support my current expensive suite of CS4(UPGRADE), and other Apps. What on earth is Apple trying to do, phase out of computers totally? Have a relative who works for Apple, and no one can figure out why the company is so favoring the PC people. The only thing I can come up with is that Win7 is a far superior program to OS10.6.8, and is likely vastly superior to the current joke of "Lion", and the upcoming "Mountain Lion". At least Snow Leopards have some dignity, and honesty in their "live" form. "Lion" is aptly named after an animal widely known for killing and eating cubs of its own species. Mountain Lions are sneaky, creepy stalkers, who attack suddenly without notice, and kill animals off efficiently and quickly. Male Mt.Lions also are known to kill the young of their own species, even their own cubs. I guess these new OS's are aptly named, as they certainly are killing off those who have been faithful to Apple for so long.
I can buy a PC running Win 7, with the speed, programs, etc., that I need, for far less than a new, comparable Mac, which it seems will require me to purchase all new expensive Apps. (Adobe CS+), etc.
Why is Apple unable to either 1) offer its previously totally faithful adherants the ability to use its ICloud service using 10.6.8, which only came out 9 months ago (while Win 7 and Vista users can use the service easily), or at least make its new OS, work with expensive Apps owned by people, which work on 10.6.8, but will not work, so I hear, on "Lion" (and presumably not on "Mountain Lion" either).   Apple is/has turned into a predator of the worst sort, without a single thought or care about previously faithful customers.   WHY?
Also, off my wagon and back to my question; will an "UPGRADE" of Adobe CS4 work with the latest updated "Lion"? Thanks!

I went to that page. Basically, it didn't specifically answer my question, or I am too dense to find the answer. I understand that there are a few problems with Photoshop, which is the main use (of mine). I could live with what it says. I also found that there were problems with CS4, and using the brush tool, when I updated to 10.6.8. Found a fix to that by updating my Quicktime. Why that works, I have no idea. I am not a computer whiz, in fact at the other end of the spector, but read on a discussion that this updating of Quicktime worked, so tried it, and it did!
This community is a life saver for me. I live in rural Wyoming (I guess all of Wyoming is rural.....) and no one knows anything about Macs. All my problems have been solved by you great people! And I thank you !
My present concern is: I read somewhere else, that if my version of Photoshop, which is CS4, was purchased as an "upgrade", which it was, then maybe it will not upload to "Lion", as maybe the disk (upgrade), I have, may use Rosetta, which is NOT included in "Lion".   What I have read is that I would have to have a "new" (not an upgrade) version of CS4 in order for it to work with "Lion".   Anyone out there know the answer???? Photoshop users?????
Geniuses???? If you know, please help me out here. I love my Macs, but really am irritated that the friends I have tried to talk into buying Mac computers, but didn't, now can enjoy all the advantages of ICloud, with an older version of their computer program (Win 7 OR(!!!) VISTA, and I cannot !!!! Here I sit, with my 2 beloved Macs, both fairly new, 2 IPads, a new IPhone, and I am the one that cannot use ICloud?????? Was it in fact made for PC people, who have become Apple consumers through iPhone and iPad, and not made for the faithful, longtime Apple consumers???? HELP!!!!

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:

The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

BLOB column will caused large memory consumed ?

our appliation server is AS9.0.4 and
We using this Jdev 10g with BC4J and JSP
to build some application that contain blob column BC4J entity object, we found the blob column will caused the memory consumed issue , each time the contain blob column application page request by browser that will consume about 50M memory on OC4J component instance, and incremental by each request until the instance out of memory. It seems the garbage collection or memory leak problem ? or have another solution to avoid the memory problem

I encountered a similar problem when I was retrieving BLOB files in the .NET architecture. I used chunking to solve the problem.
What happens is that the server reads the entire BLOB into memory before it sends anything to the client requesting it. So I set it up so that I would read a chunk (say 32KB) of the BLOB into a byte array, transmit it to the client, then read the next chunk from the BLOB and use it to overwrite the byte array, and so on. That way the maximum amount of memory that can be used is no greater than the size you specify for the chunk.
This will cause downloads to slow, but it's the only way I know of to avoid massive memory consumption. Sorry I don't have any code to go with this, but I've just started working with Java/Jdeveloper recently. Hope this helps.

You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

Dead iSight. Will ANY DV camcorder work?

My iSight died. And at $164.89 to repair, I'm really giving serious consideration to shelling out a few extra dollars and just going with a firewire DV camcorder. I know they have the obvious drawbacks of size and complexity (but I can also make videos away from my computer, which is a plus), so I guess my question is, will ANY DV cam with a firewire interface work? If so, does the cam put a heavier load on the processor than an iSight or a USB cam would? Any minimum hardware or software requirements to make something like this work? My tower is a G4 DA with 1.5 gigs of RAM and a 1.5 GHz processor from OWC. It runs the latest version of 10.5. I also have an older Dual USB iBook, which didn't meet the minimum specs for the iSight. Think a firewire camcorder would work at all on that? It's just 500 MHz with 320 gigs running 10.4.11. Anything I need to consider, or any brands/features I need to give consideration to or, conversely, avoid? Anyone have experience doing this and has an idea of the advantages/disadvantages? Thanks!

Will ANY DV camcorder work?
Some, perhaps even most, will.
However, if you mean EVERY when you say ANY, the short answer to your question is no.
Any Mac compatible DV camcorder that connects to your computer via Firewire will work.
My old Sony DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70 both work great. However, for a time after my now-discontinued models were available, Sony sold a different camcorder called "micro-DV" camcorders that were notoriously Mac-unfriendly. These Sony micro-DVs did NOT claim compatibility with Mac, and they were not.
There may be other makes and brands that won't work, too. Check the documentation that is packaged with any camcorder of interest to be certain it claims to be "Mac Compatible" and that its instructions show how to use the camcorder with a Mac. Camcorders whose manuals or other documentation do not explain how to use them with Macintosh computers are probably NOT Mac compatible.
Of course, the best way to be CERTAIN is to try the camcorder you are considering with your very own Mac before you buy. If a DV camcorder will download the video it has recorded to your iMovie, it will work on your Mac with iChat.
If you don't know someone who will let you test his camcorder with your iChat or test a short download from his camcorder on your Mac, buy from a trusted merchant that will give you written full-price refund or exchange privileges if the camera you choose does not work for you.
As for system requirements, whether you mean requirements for a particular software application that you intend to use (such as iChat system requirements) or the requirements for a specific DV camcorder, YOU must carefully compare the stated minimum requirements with the capabilities of YOUR system. If you do not KNOW how to interpret both sides of that information, having a knowledgeable and trusted retailer is even more important.
Video streams contain a LOT of data that requires a LOT of processor power. Storing captured video requires a LOT of disk space. Transmitting video requires a LOT of bandwidth. Among other possible issues that Firewire video can raise is possible hardware or software conflicts with other Firewire or AV hardware and software. Unless you are CERTAIN, you may be best served by buying from an Apple Store or a knowledgeable Apple VAR who can answer your questions authoritatively for your personal system configuration.
I began "iChatting" with my Sony webcams before I got my iSight. My rationale for changing to iSight is show in iSight versus DV Camcorder or other web-cam, which was written years before iSight was discontinued. However, the comments about the advantages of a webcam (whether iSight or some other webcam,) still apply today.
I chose the Sony brand of camcorder because the quality and features met my amateur needs. Moreover,I was using a Sony still camera and all cables, memory cards, batteries, chargers, and cables worked on both my still camera and the new video camcorders, thus saving considerable money on ancillary items. However, you needs and budget may be different. Pick the brand, quality, features, and cost that work for you. The only thing I know to specifically avoid is any DV camcorder that is not Mac compatible.

This laptop I am on right vnow has a n nVidai GTX 765M and it works beautifully on Premiere CS6, CC and CC 2014. You do have to add it to the Adobe file "cuda_supported_cards.txt file or simp[ly delete it. I hope you know that you have to be plugged in to the AC line to successfully what to edit with a laptop. Also you can improve the GPU performance if you reset the memory clock on the GPU to 1500 MHz from the default 1000 MHz. It is because nVidia.slows down the clock to conserve battery. My MacBook pro that I purchased in mid 2010 has been having some issues lately.
It's been running slow, which is very irregular since in 2010 I spent a lot of money to get the top of the line in every aspect. It's usually faster than fast and able to run multiple programs and browsers at a time.
The other day it began to act up. I did the smc reset the pram reset and it still had been running vveerryy ssllooww. :(
Now I was on it this morning and it was a bit unbalanced as I moved it to another table and it shut off completely. No sleep light, no response to the power button. It's just a dead hunk of junk. :( the only thing that gives me hope is that the battery life indicated is still working for some reason and it responds to the power adaptor when plugged in the light on the plug turns on as if the computer is acknowledging it.
Please help me. For the first time ever I am about to take apart my precious MacBook pro, but I want to make sure I am aware of what I am doing before I do it. I have read the support guide instructions through a few times so far and I am curious if removing the memory and reinstalling it will erase anything?
Is there hope?
Also currently I am unable to get to an apple store/ genius bar any live person at a store until this weekend. I am trying to avoid taking it in for I, like everyone else, need my computer for school and work and don't have the time or gas money to drive to one since I'm not in a metro area. : S

Will Shake 4.1 work on the Macbook? Cause I was reading the requierment and it said " or any Intel Core based Macs."

The current version of Shake also has two other requirements:
1. AGP or PCI Express graphics card with at least 32MB of video memory and OpenGL hardware acceleration
2. Display with 1280-by-1024-pixel resolution and 24-bit color
The MacBook does not have either of these. I suppose you could attach an external monitor that runs at 1280 x 1024 or greater, but you might have to hack the installer to get past the AGP or PCI Express requirement.

Will PNY PC3-12800 DDR3 memory work in iMac 27-inch late 2013? I am setting up a new iMac and also wondered if the iMac will read 24 GB memory. Meaning the original 4X2 and an added 8x2 = 24GB. Any advice on these two questions is appreciated.
