Will Geil Ultra Platinum DDR533 ( 2 x 512 MB ) Work On My 865PE-Neo2-FIS2R

Hey Guys,
Will Geil Ultra Platinum DDR533 ( 2 x 512 MB ) Work On My 865PE-Neo2-FIS2R ??
How Much Will It Overclock Approximately Only When D.O.T Enabled ??
How About Geil Ultra Platinum DDR500 ( 2 x 512 MB ) ??

ok, if you're planning on buying 533 ram , it would prob be a waste to use DOT.. manually OCing will give you best results.. DOT will DEF not use Geil's full potential or even half the speed it shoudl run at.. the DDR 533 should work fine with your board, and if it doesnt just return it.. but should work ok.. i have PC 4000 (DDR 500) now and it works great.. runs fine with 865PE..
DOT is not an exact overclock.. it fluxuates.. i thnk the highest you can get out of DOT is 15%?? (correct me if im wrong).. i dont know how big your CPU is, but that would mean if it were mine (3.0C) mine would go up to 3.45 MAX, and it wouldnt even styay there, it would fluxate, depends on CPU load and programs..
with maunal overclock, you could OC your CPU up to 1.33 times what is is
so FOR EXAMPLE: 3.0ghz ---> 4.0ghz
now, i couldnt do this without some heavy duty cooling, but the ram could do it just fine.. kep that in mind...

  • Anyone have any experience using this Geil Ultra Platinum PC4000/DDR500

When I purchased  my motherboard i did so from Mwave as an bundle package, AMD 64 3000+/MSI Neo4 NF4/SLi/ and basically I choose the only ram they offered cause I wanted them to test everything  out before sending it off to me and yeah I was trying to save some money too, stupid me....now I'm buying the memmory I should have and I have 2 sticks I paid for unecessarily and Ill be lucky to recoupe 75% of what I paid for them, the ram I bought with this bundle package was just the plain vanilla Crucial pc3200/ddr400, cl3....actually I was surprized because I was able to get the fsb to 220mhz before it satrted logging errors, this effectively clocked my cpu from stock 1808mhz to 1998mhz, anyway after a suggestion from one of the Msi forum mods here, I went shopping for some pc4000, in a couple of days I will get it, who of you out there run the same ram in a similar system? and what performance( i.e. 260mhz fsb) from your experience can I expect to get from it , my rigs specs are in my sig btw and thanks for any input

The AMD64 memory controller seems to like Samsung TCCD / TCCx and some do not like Hynix (which is used in the GeIL Ultra Platinum PC4000).  Winbond generally needs higher vdimm voltage which the Neo boards are not good at (mine is max 2.85v).

  • 865PE Neo2-FIS2R and Geil memory problem

With 512MB (2x256) of Corsair XMS 3700, the system is perfectly stable (runs 24/7 crunching for UD, also have done Prime95 torture test).
With 1-GB (2x512) of Geil PC4000 Ultra Platinum, the system is very unstable.  It usually won't even boot fully into Windows without a BSOD (which vary) or if it does get into Windows it crashed soon thereafter.
If I put the Corsair memory back in (like I have them right now, to be able to use the system to post this message), the system is back to 100% stable, so it seems to be entirely a memory-related problem.

Have run MemTest standard test on the Geil modules individually and as a pair, and have tried different slots.  Testing thus far shows no errors when each module is installed separately, but when used in a pair there are sometimes errors shown.
Have tried the modules in slots 1,3 and slots 2,4 with no difference.
Have tried setting DDR voltage from 2.70 up to 2.85v for the Geil (approved up to 2.9v) with no apparent change in stability.
Have tried changing Spread Spectrum setting between enabled and disabled.  Disabled seems to be better, but problem remains.
Have tried using SPD disabled with settings listed above, and SPD enabled (which sets timings at 2.5-4-4-8,8).
Edit: I'd asked for advice, but then realized that the very limited timeframe in which I could return the Geil would expire if I waited beyond business hours today.  So I've RMA'd the Geil and have ordered a 1-GB Corsair TwinX XMS 3700 pack instead.

I've had similar problems to you but with Corsair TwinX LL's and if you read back a month in this forum you will see others have also with various memories on the 865 FISR.
The fix I found was Kingston memory but others have had problems with Kingston.    There was a thread running a week or two ago attempting to document successful memory mobo combinations.
Bottom line, stick with what works on your mobo until MSI fix the incompatability/instability issues.

  • Unable to activate ultra-turbo on 865PE N2 FIS2R

Hi all. I cannot turn on ultra-turbo mode under any circumstances whatsoever, though I really rather think I should be able to, given my ram. Specs are as follows:
    P4 3.0 @ 200 (800) mhz fsb
    2x 512 meg Kingston HyperX PC4000 DDR500 modules: 3-3-4-5-8 @ 400 mhz (2.8v)
    865PE Neo2-FIS2R
    MSI FX5900-TD256 @ stock
    400w powersupply
Western Digital Raptor 36GB and Maxtor diamond max plus 9 120GB SATA hard drives
BIOS - optimal settings, firewire and usb enabled.
WinXP pro + SP1 + all latest Windows Updates
So. Whenever I try to turn on ultra-turbo, the bios chimes in to tell me that I've assigned too aggressive memory timings--even with the timings at the least aggressive setting possible. Moreover, it then goes on to monkey with my memory timings. I've tried pretty muchg everything I can think of. Oh and FYI, I've got dynamic overclocking off at present (read: ultra-turbo doesn't work even with dynamic overclocking disabled)
Oh, and since I'm fairly new to this, I'm not entirely sure I've got the order for the timings down, the order I used above was cas latency, Ras precharge, ras to cas, dram precharge, dram burst length. And sometimes, for some inexplicable reason, the bios won't let me set the cas to 3 (at which my ram is rated) so I'm forced, at times, to run at 2.5.
Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing simplistic about the question. This topic is the poorest one in the manual. It gets off to a bad start by calling normal performance "Slow". If you can post and run stable at Fast then you should find the the Intel PAT (MSI MAT) feature is enabled. You can check this using CPUID under the memory tab. I think, but I haven't seen benchmarks, that the improvements seen using Turbo or Ultra Turbo over Fast are marginal. If you can run stable at either of these settings great; if not its not a big deal, particulary with your CPU. With your hardware you should be able to overclock by 10% with stock cooling.

  • Will A MS6728-Neo2 FIS2R support a 3.4 CPU? Will I feel the difference outside of my Wallet :)

    Hey Guys, I'm thinking of upgrading. Will my MSI 6728 - 865PE Neo2 FIS2R support a 3.4 Cpu i.e.   3.4EE or 3.4 Northwood.

hmmm, i "upgraded" from a 2.8c to a 3.2(c) 800FSB. since you want 3.4GHz i dont know what the difference is there, even though i have mine oc'ed 24/7 to 3.6GHz.
well, i notice almost no difference i games. and since thats everything i do with my machine, besides some surfing the internet or some work for uni it wasnt worth the extra cash.
but it feels good to have it anyway. every benchmark gives you higher scores and overclocking has become a little easier since i dont have to crank up the FSB that much compared to my old 2.8c aka, its more stable @ higher speeds - and i can use some PC3200 memory without having to fear that it will hold me back.
so, its really up to you. when you game alot you wont find any improvements and you should save your money. but if its benchmark scores what you're after, or you want some safe overclocks in the 3.6 - 3.8GHz region, then 3.x P4s are the way to go.
another advantage even if its little is, that you can use LL memory, because you dont need PC3700 or faster stuff.

  • Neo4 Ultra Platinum (7125) + GeIL DDR400 1.5-2-2-5

    Hi,
I am trying to install GeIL low latency memory CL=1.5 to Neo4 Ultra (Platinum) (7125). Is there a bios that supports Tcl 1.5 ?
Any mod bios that support tihs ? Anyone ? Link ?
Please help, can't wait to test it to 1.5, I waited long to get this limited edition... So far A64 tweaker is doing fine, but I would like to use BIOS. DFI LanParty support Tcl=1 and 1.5.
How to mod bios myself to reach this?

Its becuase you have a RAID 0 on the NVidia SATA ports, there is a bug that stops the system from restarting. Use the silicon image for now untill its fixed.
    Silicon image?

  • MOVED: K8N Ultra Platinum nForce 4: No OB Sound vs No -5v rail on PSU

This topic has been moved to AMD64 nVidia boards.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=119431.0

    Hello!
    This is your board right?
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=manual&maincat_no=1&prod_no=165
I have seen "Ultra Platinum" before but have no idea where it got that name.
Sound is very often a Windows problem, and after change of motherboard you should at least do a Repair installation of Windows. Best to install to an empty hard disk.
Your PSU, as long as you don't have a graphics card will barely be enough. Once you get one, you should get a better PSU with it.

  • Software that will make the Platinum 5.1 card work on Windows XP computer

I've had Soundblaster Li've! 5. Platinum card in my Windows 98 computer since 200 and it works fine. I recently bought a computer from an auction which has Window XP Professional Service Pack 3 installed. I would like to unplug the sound card from my Windows 98 computer and plug it into my Windows xp computer since I really would like to stop using Windows 98 since the Windows xp computer that I now have is much better.
Since posts on your forum indicate that the installation CD of this sound card does not work with Windows XP, I am wondering whether I can download software that will make the Platinum 5. card work on my Windows xp computer.
Both computers work fine. Thank you.

    Hello,
LabVIEW 5.0 is not officially supported on Windows XP, as it was released before XP was released. However, it will most likely work, other than a "Wrong OS" message that you may recieve during installation. I have successfully installed LabVIEW 5.0 on my XP machine and not run into any trouble. However, you should be aware that issues you encounter may not be supported. Please see these KnowledgeBases on our website for more information:

  • MSI NF4 Ultra Platinum help desperately wanted

    Hi all,
hope that someone can help me.
My new nf4 Ultra platinum arrived today with new gfx card so dismantled my existing pc setup (msi neo2 platinum) and got going on building it. Everything was going quite well and installed xp and so forth. Installed Fear and within seconds of it starting I get this constant loud tone coming from case; before I manage to exit i get a long loop of the game sound before it reboots. Had my Opteron 146 at 3.0ghz with the neo2 but can't even be at 2.0 without problem playing a game.
I've got 2 x 1gb OCZ Gold GTX which I ran at 3 4 3 8 but tbh am quite lost with all the settings on this board. I'm only a beginner when it comes to clocking and with problems all ready i'm a little panicky. Excuse me - its been a long day and i'm really tired with my head aching.
Would really appreciate some guidance and maybe some help clocking my opty back to 3.0ghz on this board - but first, can someone tell me what the constant loud tone means?
    Many thanks

Check your memory brand and type and then check voltage that it requires, not all ram runs at 2.5 so you may need to increase your ram voltage.
Also manually adjust your memory timings to 2.5-5-5-7-2T until you can get the machine stable.

    Hey Guys,
I fail to see the Logic in "don't buy dual core now... it’s too expensive… wait till the price drops in 2006." You don't HAVE to buy dual core... but since it's here... there really is no reason not to. You still need a processor now to get you through till 2006... So that means spending $300 (CND + Tax) on a 3200+ and then in 2006... Spending another 400 (maybe even 500) on a 4400+... so in the end you'll still have spent close to $800.
By buy dual core now... you get to use it NOW!... so you also have to take that into consideration. I've already returned my San Diego 4000+ and waiting till June 12th for the 4400+ to get in stock. I don't think I’ve seen anyone in here using a dual core with the 1.4 BIOS, so I’m not sure if 1.4 will work at all... But everyone seems to be say that 1.5 will become official in early June... with dual core support and a VDIMM of up to 3.1v
    Just my $.02
Point well taken, but add this, what is going to change between now and then? I like to set back read reviews and watch them work out the bugs before I buy. All to often we get burned buying to quick in the Pc Market. And last point "use it NOW" may I ask on what? Now I just through that in so give me some links to read, because iam not uptodate on Dual core except the price.

Hello guys is my first time in this forum
I buy a MSI 865PE Neo2-P Platinum Edition and a P4 3.2 Box Northood Fsb 800 with the cooler on.
My question is what Cooler is better than the box one from Intel?
What 512 memory are work perfect on this sistem?
    thanks
    Paulo

    hi Tritek,
    welcome to the forum.
    1. do your system have problem with heat? What is the CPU temperature read? Is the stock fan too loud for you? There are lots of cooler out there, expensive one especially, are way better than Intel stock cooler. But do you need better cooler?
    2. any 512MB DDR works. To work "perfect", you need DDR400 to fully utilize it.
