Will Get Album Artwork delete manually imported artwork?

I just imported a ton of art manually and would hate it if Get Album Artwork deleted them. Anyone know?
Also, what happens if you manually import artwork and then iTunes later has it in inventory. Will iTunes replace existing manual imports with iTunes art?

that was my next question as I'm finding some of the iTunes art not as good as others, and I have found better than they have. Since in these circumstances, since iTunes does have art assoc with my album, I'm wonding if overwriting iTunes will cause iTunes to overwrite me

Does preview catalog will get smaller after deleting movies/pictures from Lightroom 4.0 assuming the option 'Automatically discard 1:1 previews' is marked 'Never'?

Yes, but it may not be apparent immediately. The previews are "held" for a time to save rebuilding if the associted file is reimported or the removal undone.

  • ITunes 10.5.2 will not manually import artwork

Manually adding artwork to iTunes has broken with this release apparently.  I am unable to add a 63kb image (JPEG or TIFF) to any song or selection of songs (album).  Clicking on the "Artwork" checkbox under <Get Info><Options> and either pasting or dragging and dropping the file does not work.  Also, I can no longer add artwork to an individual song, the "Artwork" tab is greyed out and not available.  There is no existing artwork for the songs or the album.
I am completely frustrated by this as I wouldl like to add artwork that is not available on line (either in iTunes or in open source).

  • How can I get ITUNES to display manually added artwork for each song regardless of the album name?

I have been manually adding artwork to my songs. When I click the Show Artwork check box, it doesn't show the cover art. For example some greatest hits albums have different cover art per track. ITUNES picks one of the cover art and shows it for the entire album grouping.
Anyway around this? I want the added cover art to display per song.

The artwork of each individual track does display during playback, in the small thumbnail at the top of the iTunes window, or at the left of the MiniPlayer control (opens by clicking the thumbnail), or the larger artwork panel that is shown if you click on the Show Large Artwork control in the MiniPlayer. It should also display on any iPod or iOS Now Playing view.
The Up Next list uses the album art (usually cover of the first track) for everything from the same album, which is perhaps a shame, although in general one artwork per album makes sense.

  • Can't change details or manually import artwork

    Hello all.
I've just bought an iPod Classic and transferred all my albums (600 or so) from my old Creative Zen. The iPod picked up about half the album sleeves. On the Creative, I also had one genre, "music" and the iPod has created about a million genres (well, 66). It's also mixed up some compilations.
So, no probs: I work out what Ctrl I does and the album artist things then try to change thge genres / import album sleeves / tidy up compilations.
However: nothing happens. The best I can say is that it's like it's read only, and won't let me do anything. Any ideas?
Just so you know: I'm doing this on the PC in iTunes with the iPod disconnected.
I have highlighted all the tracks on an album to change genre, ticked the box, tried adding "album artist" but as soon as I press ok, nothing happens.
With the album sleeves, I downloaded an image from Amazon, highlighted all the tracks and pressed Ctrl I, then dragged the image into the relevant box. The image appears in the box, but when I press OK nothing happens.
I also tried dragging the image to the box in the iTunes screen where there's a musical note. I get the "no entry" sign on the cursor saying it's not allowed.
I downloaded the software from the Apple site.

This is for both of you! Thanks but . . .
    1. <<Are they are on the iPod only or also in the main iTunes library?>>
They're in both. I imported all the files from the old Creative into iTunes and then onto the iPod.
    2. <<right-click on it and select Show in Windows Explorer>>
Nothing happens! Right click, Show in Windows, nothing doing. However, the Neil Young tracks referred previously bring up an error message about track being missing when I try and get properties. Even though they're the ones I can find . . ("The song could not be used because the original file cannot be found")
    3. <<Chances are they've been imported via another account>>
Sorry - all through one laptop. It's brand new, as well.
    4. <<look in the iTunes Music folder again but instead of looking for an artist folder, find the "Compilations" folder>>
You're probably ahead of me by now - there is no compilations folder. I went through all the folders. There's only on album for each artist despite there being several for most in the library. I thought this could be it but then Incubus had managed to accumulate two.
    5. As to your other question, if you can not change anything in the ID3 tags for the songs (including the Compilation tag above), likely it is just a problems with an incompatible ID3 version being used.
Ha! Thought this might the answer. Some of the tracks were originally on an earlier Creative Zen so were loaded on software that's three or four years old.
I opened the iTunes library and viewed as a list, Ctrl A to select all, Advanced, Convert Id3 tags . . .and got "the songs may be right protected or the wrong type". <Sigh>.
It will apparently let me convert them all to AAC but I don't know what that will do . . .
Do you think it's worth deleting all the files and starting again?
I actually imported all the albums off a remote hard disk - I backed up the Creative regularly - though that should be the same as all the files being on the C drive I would have thought.
However, all the albums were done the same way - I backed up the Creative then transferred the whole lot so it should either all work or all not work.
I could either import them directly from the old Creative MP3 (it still works, it's just attached to an electronic drum kit) or can I convert them as I import them from the remote hard disk?

  • Import? how do i set it so in the future i will get that option after each import?

how do i delete images off  my camera card after an import? how do i get that option window after every import?

If you can see the images in Finder, select the item, control - click, and move to Trash.

  • Manually adding Artwork (like from iTS)

Hi there, I'm scanning the artwork that comes from my CDs to add them to the songs. I'm noticing that when I do it, the song file size grows. Which sounds logical. At the same time I understand that what happens to the song-files when the artworks are downloaded automatically from the iTS is different (I'm not sure here, I'm just guessing): The songs don't really grow in size as the artwork doesn't really go into them. What I understand is that they are stored somewhere else and the songs just refer to them.
If this is true, well, I see an obvious advantage, the songs stay the same size and probably it's faster to play them and display their artworks.
If there's any expert around in the iTunes ways, please help me out. If the way iTS downloads and adds the artworks into the songs is better, and there is a way to replicate it, I'd love to know how. Otherwise I'll stick to my fully manual process.
    Thanks.

I artwork already is embedded in the song files, iTunes won't get artwork from the iTunes store.
You could delete all artwork and then get the ones from the iTunes Store, but this is a bit tricky. If the artist or album isn't available at the Store, no artwork is downloaded. So you end with nothing for those albums.
I would consider getting assistance from a script to save the existing artwork first.
The first one which came in mind is Save Album Art to Album Folder.
It saves the artwork from the selected tracks to the folder where the song file resides or to a chosen folder. But it saves the artwork of all tracks, not just the album.
Another, more attractive option is to save the artwork using Export Artwork to iPhoto.
This one has an option to save only one piece of artwork of an album.
After you saved the artwork, select all tracks (Command-A) and 'Get Info' (Command-I). Check the checkbox at 'Artwork' and click OK.
iTunes will remove all embedded artwork.
Select all tracks again and choose 'Get Album Artwork' from the Advanced menu. Alternatively control-click on the selection and choose 'Get Album Artwork' from the contextual menu.
After a while, iTunes will have downloaded the artwork for (hopefully) most albums. You then can add missing ones from your iPhoto library.
Which method you choose, it will take a lot of time depending on the size of your library.
Ideal would be a script that saves the artwork, deletes it from the song file, requests the Store for artwork, deletes the saved artwork if artwork is downloaded or adds the saved artwork if no artwork is downloaded.
However, such a script does not exist (yet) as far as I know.
    Some notes:
You must be using iTunes 7.0.x
You must have an iTunes Store account.
The song, artist and album names must exactly match the ones at the iTunes Store, although recent experiences showed to me that minor mismatches still will download the correct artwork.

  • Getting album art for imported music

I imported my wma music when I switched to iTunes. However, only one or two of the imported albums have album art. I enable the automatic album art retrieval tool in store/preferences, but I am still not getting album art on the imported music. I also imported some cd's, which, as I understand it, should get album art automatically; it hasn't happened. It it me? Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Are these items sold in the itunes store? It only fetches artwork on things it sells, so no AC/DC or Beatles artwork will be fetched.
Second, your tags have to exactly match whatever is in the iTS database. For example - a while back iTS had Led Zeppelin's Mothership listed under "Lead Zeppelin", so nobody was getting any artwork for it. They have fixed that one....

  • When I try to "Get Track Names" or "Get Album Art," the wrong info or no info is retrieved

I'm using the latest iTunes and Lion OS.
I have many songs from long ago (not downloaded from iTunes) which have incorrect album names, etc., and I want to clean them up, but when I enter the correct info and select "Get Album Art" or "Get Track Names," either nothing is found or the incorrect information is returned, respectively.
For example, I have a song:
    Artist: James Taylor
    Album: Greatest Hits
    Name: Mexico
It does not have the associated Album Art, nor does it have the rest of the information like Track, Year, etc.  It just has the Track Name, Album Name and Artist Name.  I want to update this to show that it is from the original Album, "Gorilla," so I right-click and select Info, and I fill in the Album Name as "Gorilla." When I right-click and select "Get Album Art," it tells me: "Artwork for "James Taylor - Gorilla" could not be found - though it exists in iTunes. When I right-click and select "Get Track Names," the item is updatd, and now it reads:
    Artist: America
Album: Mellow Rock Hits Of The 70s: Summer Breeze
Name: A Horse With No Name
When I rename everything to "James Taylor," "Mexico," and "Gorilla," and select either "Get Album Art" or "Get Track Names," I get the exact same thing: no album artwork found, and it renames it to America.
What is happening?  What am I doing wrong?  Do I have the wrong expectations of the two right-click options?

I don't think CDDB and iTunes Store is the same.  The CDDB gets information for CDs only (not collections of tracks made from a CD) and uses CD features such as track lengths (exact, which could be modified by a fraction of a second when you make a MP3) track count, etc. It doesn't use any information such as artist, track name. From what Mike Johnson12 was saying it seems that ITMS uses the base tag information to identify the track fully.
I have never used iTunes Store to label a track so I can't provide information there. I have no idea what criteria it uses, but for other id3 tag application and iTunes, by "exact" we mean exact.  Letter case is important, and I have even found that sometimes font can make a difference.
For album artwork I do a Google search, then restrict the finds to images and select the best quality I can find. This is also the biggest in terms of file size so I only attach the image to one file in a track. When playing iTunes on the computer it displays that image for all tracks in that album.

  • ITunes 10.0.7.21 shows a white box instead of artwork for most of my albums.  Many of these are albums I purchased on itunes.  Also when I hit get album art it deleted the artwork it already had form many albums and says it cant find it.

    OS is Windows 7
I updated iTunes the other day and I decided to run "get album art" and instead of finding artwork, it made some of the artwork I already had show up as white squares, or disapear entirely.  The ones that are white squares show up under the get info, but not in itunes.  I did click in view for show al artwork, no luck.  Many of these albums I bought from iTunes.  The ones that the artwork was deleted some albums I can buy on iTunes, but already owned, and iTunes found the artwork before, but now cannot.  Some are albums that I spent many hours finding and adding the artwork myself.  I am very frustrated.  I cannot find the time to manually install artwork for thousands of songs.
My work computer is Windows 8, so I really don't want to hear windows vs OSX argument.  My company won't switch to mac because you like it better, so I just need a solution to my issue.  iTunes it has always worked better for me on my work PC than my macBook, I dont know why, but I don't take two laptops with me when I travel so I have my iTunes library on the PC that has to come with me.  This is the first time an update has screwed things up for me.

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.
I know what SPSS stands for but that is all I know about it.

  • Why won't some imported albums get album artwork

I just bought a CD and I imported it into I-tunes and was unable to get album art work? This is a brand new CD. Any suggestions?

iTunes can only find the album art if the CD you have is also available from the iTunes Store. You also have to have the CD information (artist, album) entered into iTunes EXACTLY the same way as it is in the iTunes Store.
You can try going into your library, right-clicking on the song file and clicking Get Album Artwork.
If it's still not working, I'd recommend doing it manually.
Go online and find a picture of the CD. (Amazon usually works well for this)
Then, select all of the files in the iTunes library (either by Shift or Ctrl clicking) and click File > Get Info
You can then drag the album artwork from Amazon to iTunes.

Can I merge or combine 2 "album artwork" folders? I have saved music onto an external server from 2 computers but the artwork that I have manually imported remains in the default folder in the music/itunes/"album artwork" folder on their respective PCs.
i.e. artwork uploaded on one PC won't apppear on the other PC because it is saved locally...
I'm confident that i won't beable to just merge the 2 because thy'll have the same folder names.
On the same note: can I have iTunes create these files on the external server/Hard drive also so that either computer can use them at the same time?
(like I have my library- can the other files be saved remotely)
    Thx

    i'm using iTunes 10 BTW

  • Error with getting album artwork, will i lose all library if i unistall?

I appear to have an error (-609) when i try to get album artwork in i tunes. I was thinking about unistalling i tunes and then re installing it. Will this help resolve the error and will it mean i will lose all the albums i have stored in my library. Will i have to reload them all back on again? or can i save them on my pc somewhere before i unistall itunes and then move them back into itunes when i reinstall it?

Hi Sarah, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Try logging out of the iTunes Store, Quit iTunes...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
Open Itunes, log into the Store, try again.

  • How to get album artwork from amazon

How can I get album artwork from amazon ?

iTunes will only fetch artwork for albums that are on sale in the iTunes Music Store (and sometimes even that doesn't work if the info tags aren't identical). If you have a lot of albums that are older, obscure or simply not licensed for sale in the store iTunes won't add any artwork.
If the artwork isn't available in iTunes you can also add images of your own manually. You'll get information on both methods at this link: iTunes for Windows - Adding artwork to songs and other items
When you can't find the album covers you want from iTunes you can get them from various other sources. I find this site is a good source of artwork which you can copy to your computer: CD/Album Cover Art Search from SlothRadio.
Another place for finding suitable artwork is to go to Amazon. You can also locate artwork using Google image search and put the artist or album name. Locate the album from any of those sources, right click on the image and save it to the desktop, once it's there drag it to the iTunes artwork pane. Once you've added the artwork you can either delete the original file or keep it in a folder somewhere in case you need to use it again. Alternatively there are programs like these that help locate artwork: iTunes Art Importer or MP3 Tag
If you have a scanner you can create your own artwork files by scanning the CD cover itself, this is particularly useful when you are dealing with rare recordings.

  • Any other place to get album artwork

Itunes store does not have artwork for some CD's I have copied. And some of the CD's they matched up to incorrect covers. Is there any other location to get cover art and if so how do you connect it to album display in Itunes?
    Thanks for any help.

If the album artwork you want isn't available in the iTunes store you can add it manually, you just need to have the relevant image file. You'll get information on adding artwork manually (or automatically when it's available) at this link: iTunes for Windows - Adding artwork to songs and other items
