Will GLC-EX-SDM supported on Cisco 3560?

Hi,
I am looking for optics which can work for longer distances like 30-40kms using 1310 wavelength and we did see that there is a module for it ( GLC-EX-SDM= ). But I would like to know if I can use it in Cisco 3560 ? Do let me know what all switches or routers these modules will work ?
Thanks,
ramanan

Below is a link to compatibility information for pluggable optics modules.
COMPATIBILITY INFORMATION
I am surprised the GLC-EX-SMD is not included on the 3560, but sometimes it is a matter of available resources to test compatibility or an operating issue that was found during testing that would prevent its use (heat, power, EMI, etc.).
You could use the 1000BASE-ZX module (1550um), either GLC-ZX-SM or SFP-GE-Z, as these are included in the compatibility documents.
You would have to get an answer from the 3560 Product Manager to find out if it is on the roadmap to be added to the system.

We run UCCE 7.1 and CUCM 5.1 (1Pub and 3 Subs) which will be out of support in Feb-12).   We are currently implementing and strategy to replace the whole In-House platform or to migrate to a fully managed hosted telephony solution (but this will taek time).   Whatever option we select I want to get some views from the comunity on HOW far can I extend the life of the Call manager system beyond its end-of-mainteance milestone (1 year, 2 years....) ???? (I know this might be a silly question and that this pretty much depend on KPIs  and availability requirements but if there is any feedback from anybody around - very welcome).

  • DHCP and voice vlan on Cisco 3560 switch

    Greetings,
I'm setting up a Cisco 3560 switch for voice and data comms. I'm looking for documentation with best practice guidelines for the following requirements.
    1. Using the Cisco 3560 as a DHCP server - Config examples.  Do I need to use different subnets for the voice and data vlans?
    2. Layer 2 CoS QoS  - I'm connecting Aastra phones as well as notebooks - I've been told that Aastra also makes use of the voice vlan config through LLDP and that Aastra phones supports CDP.
    Your assistance will be appreciated.

    Hi ,
Cisco recommends that you have a separate vlan for  voice and data with different ip subnets for voice and data. You will need to configure the dhcp pool accordingly.

    Hello,
Will Unity Connection ever support Microsoft 365 Exchange.  The link below states that it is not supported in 8.6 but does not state that it will never be supported.  If If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

    HI Jason,
Here's what I found, Exchange 365 is supported on CUC 8.6.2, which will come out in a few weeks.  However there's a Microsoft limitation of 19 users, but Cisco and Microsoft are actively working the problem.

  • If we got Nexus 1000V from VMWARE , can we add the N1K to our CCO ( Cisco Account ) to have direct support from Cisco

    Hi
If we got Nexus 1000V from VMWARE , can we add the N1K to our CCO ( Cisco Account ) to have direct support from Cisco
as sometimes it take some more time to get answer from VMWARE -> Cisco
    Thanks

No.  When you purchase support from Vmware, they are your support contact and they will escalate support to Cisco on your behalf if needed.  This is the case for all OEM support.  Cisco provides support for RHEL, Microsoft and VMware.  We follow the same practice.
Deciding who to purchase support from is a decision of single point of contact for all VMware & N1K related issues vs. maintaining separate support contracts with each vendor individually.

  • How many numbers of GRE Tunnels are supported on Cisco 3925 router?

    Hi...
I would like to know that.......
How many numbers of GRE Tunnels are supported on Cisco 3925 router?
    Thanks....

This is what I found in my search:
There may be factors such as memory constraints that will place practical limits on how many tunnels you can support. But there is also a hard limit on the number of tunnels that you can configure. That limit is based on the limitation of the number of IDBs supported by your router. The IDB is the Interface Descriptor Block and each interface (physical, or tunnel, or loopback, or whatever) requires an IDB. The number of IDBs will vary by platform and sometimes by release level of the code that you are running. You can use the privileged command show idb to see what the limitation is on your router. On the 1841 router that I just checked the limit on IDB is 1200 (which is a pretty large number - I believe that you would encounter other limits on performance or on size of configuration before you exhaust the IDB limit).

    Hope it helps.

  • Multilayer Cisco 3560 Switched network

    Hi,
I have a multilayer Cisco 3560 network. All sites are connected to each other using RIP V2. The area marked in red is what we are having an issue with.
    1. We have remote sites connected by microwave links using Cisco 3560.
    2. In the attached image "Site-1" inherits all the configuration from the Headoffice. They also get their internet connection from the Headoffice over the " 256Kbps DSL-DATALINK".
    3. The area marked in red are the 2 sites, they were connected to each other using a data link.
    4. The 100 Mbps microwave links were commissioned lately so we want to use these links for our Internet + Data connections.
    5. HEAD OFFICE switch is running the VTP Domain.
    Question
    1. I have rip version 2 running how do I get "SITE-1" to share the internet connection from Headoffice over the Wireless Links
    2. Site-1 should get the IP address from the HeadOffice DHCP server over the wireless links.
    3. The "DSL-DATALINK" should work as a backup/redundant link. If my 100 Mbps link is down it should automatically switch to the DSL link.
Kindly give me your expert comments/suggestions in how do I go about achieving the above.
    Regards
    Sarfaraz

RIP works on hop-count and it will prefer the DSL connection over the Wireless link (1 hop vs 4 hops).
You can alter this behavior by creating an offset list on routes incoming the data link.
    router rip
    version 2
    offset-list 0 in 5 [data link interface]
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios124/124cr/hirp_r/rte_rih.htm#wp999452
You need to this on both routers (site1 and HQ).

  • No of SSID support on Cisco WLC

    Hi All,
Can you please help me on providing below details on Cisco wireless controller?
    1. No of SSID support on Cisco WLC
    2. Is it possible to restrict SSID on AP's (e.g. I have 10 SSID's configured on controller, I want first 10 Access points use set of SSID (SSID 1-5), and rest of the AP use SSID 6-10.
    Thanks
    Jamal

    Hi Jamal,
Just to add a touch to the great info from Robert (+5 points Robert)
The feature you are looking for is called WLAN Override in WLC 4.x versions.
    Enabling WLAN Override
By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN Override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which ones are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/4.0/configuration/guide/c40wlan.html#wp1114777
Once you create a new WLAN, the WLAN > Edit page for the new WLAN appears. In this page you can define various parameters specific to this WLAN including General Policies, RADIUS Servers, Security Policies, and 802.1x Parameters.
**Check Admin Status under General Policies to enable the WLAN. If you want the AP to broadcast the SSID in its beacon frames, check Broadcast SSID.
Note: You can configure up to sixteen WLANs on the controller. The Cisco WLAN Solution can control up to sixteen WLANs for Lightweight APs. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 16), a separate WLAN SSID (WLAN name), and can be assigned unique security policies. Lightweight APs broadcast all active Cisco WLAN Solution WLAN SSIDs and enforce the policies that you define for each WLAN.
    From this good doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080665d18.shtml#c3
    In 5.x versions you will use AP Groups, because in WLC 5.x versions, WLAN Override has been replaced with the "AP Groups" feature;
    Creating Access Point Groups
After all access points have joined the controller, you can create up to 150 access point groups and assign up to 16 WLANs to each group. Each access point advertises only the enabled WLANs that belong to its access point group. The access point does not advertise disabled WLANs in its access point group or WLANs that belong to another group.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/5.2/configuration/guide/c52wlan.html#wp1128591
To learn more about AP Groups check out George's excellent video

  • What are the features supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure for WLAN for autonomous AP's?

What are the features supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure for WLAN for autonomous AP’s?

    • PI provides visibility for autonomous  clients within the same list view as lightweight and wired clients (client list  page).
    • Rogue AP detection for autonomous AP's is not supported (it's  supported in CUWN).
    • Alarms/events for client authentication issues (e.g.  authentication failure) are displayed in PI.
    • Config management for  autonomous AP's is via CLI template.  Config comparison and archiving  functionality in PI leverages these same features that were brought in from LMS,  so need to defer to others in terms of whether this is a cross-platform feature  in PI or is only supported on a subset of platforms.  Config comparison/archive  is supported in CUWN.PI supports both infrastructure (e.g. AP Tx Power and  Channel, busiest AP, AP utilization, etc.) and client (e.g. client count, client  sessions, etc.) reports, and there are extensive reports for CUWN

I just checked my BIOS and my current setting is set at IDE although it also mentions that the default should be AHCI. Currently I have a dual boot of Windows 7 (need it for Tax software) and Arch
So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
    1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
    2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section.
