Will hardwiring my mac mini to my router improve airplay mirroring performance?

I am currently running ATV 2 and a 2012 Mac Mini with Mountain Lion. The AirPlay Mirroring is working well but some videos are lagging and skipping.
If I hardwire my mac mini to the router will that improve performance?
Please advise and thank you for your help.

We've always been able to 'Airplay' from iTunes using wired or wifi (same for the older Airtunes I guess) - I think maybe the name is just a little confusing in that it implies wifi but that shouldn't be the only way of doing so.
There will be instances when you might want to mirror a wired Mac's display to AppleTV without physically connecting to the TV too.
As I say I just don't know if it's limited to wifi only for source mirroring devices as I don't have one capable of doing it.

  • How to set mac mini to virtual router

    Hi James,
It's Internet Sharing you're looking for in System Preferences>Sharing, which can share your connection, say from Ethernet to other computers/devices using Airport/Wifi.

  • Will adding AirPort Extreme to my fios router improve my speed and distance to led tv.. The tv keeps dropping network and 50% of the time it tells me my broadband is too slow. I have upgraded to fios faster internet speed.

Will adding AirPort Extreme to my Fios router improve reception on tv located about 50 feet away..have new top of the line samsung smart tv and it drops signal every other day. When trying to watch netflix or amazon it transmits in SD only says bandwidth is not high enough for Hd. My ipad laptops and iphone work fine in this room. Any help will be appreciated or am I better off with a booster.

The AirPort Extreme will not be able to wirelessly "boost" or "repeat" the wireless signal from the Fios router, since It will only work with another Apple router for that feature.
So, if you plan to extend or repeat the FIos wireless signal, you should use a product by the same manufacturer as the Fios router....or possibly a "universal" repeater from a company like Netgear.
Make sure that you understand the store's return policy before you buy any kind of extender or repeater.....since you cannot know if the product will help until you try it out in your home.
The TV really needs a wired Ethernet connection from the Fios router if at all possible.

  • Airport Express problems with new MAC MINI and DLINK router SOLVED

Hi just thought I would post this as it may well help others experiencing similar frustrations with new core duo mac mini and wireless connection or quality problems across the network / internet etc
I have a 3 week old, new mac mini core duo 1.8ghz 2gig ram, 120gb disk - First Mac, connecting to my exisiting wireless network via DLINK ADSL Router 2MB Broadband also one windows laptop and pc also wireless on the network and two airport express potins to stream itunes to
    Problem was briefly
Mac worked fine, but the network connection just far too slow, laptop and pc, 1800+ kbps downstream mac mini 90 - 150kbps (http://www.adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp)
also if i ping the router directly from terminal (ping -c 20 192.168.1.1) average response 12+ ms with 20% packet loss, yet laptop and pc avg 2ms no losses
Spent 2 evenings on frustrating calls of more than 1 hour each (due to being cut off , then ring back and closed etc etc) and carrying out a the helpdesk troubleshooting (I am an IT consultant I think I am above this level), eventually an archive and install of the os as well
last night I call for the third time, insisting I dont wish to carry out any further troubleshooting, and want it replaced and resolved or my money back
I receive a call back from product specialist (not sure if thats mac mini specialist or airport) but we resolved the issue (his knowledge far superior to the help desk do this do this attitude)
between us we carried out the folowing and resolved the problem and I am now very happy
mac now downstreaming also in excess of 1800kbps (as expected for 2mb broadband)and no packet loss
This problem was resolved by switching off the turbo option hidden away in the routers settings, under wireless configuration
Supposed to improve performance, but its rubbish and will make hardly any difference under mac os to the speed but will certainly affect your mac mini performance(you may have a similar setting switched on in your routers and mac os dont like it)
We stumbled across this by first disconnecting one of the airport express devices from my dlink network, and using it on its own default apple wireless settings, effectively making it a standalone wireless network, and not via the dlink router
we then carried out the same ping with the ip address of this device (from airport admin utility default 10.0.1.1) and the results were fantastic 2ms avg no package loss
this established it was something with the router, and how we then interrogated the routers settings and found the turbo on option within wireless configuration
you may not be able to replicate this if you dont have an additional network you could join (such as airport express), but probably worth checking your own router settings for something similar
Hope that may be of assistance to others, sorry that its a bit long winded and garbled, but I'm just so excited to finally get my new mac working as i would expect it to
Also perhaps insist on speaking to a product specialist immediately that the helpdesk are unable to help you

Hello macfar14. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
For just streaming iTunes and/or for sharing a USB printer, the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) just needs to be configured as a wireless client ... which you already attempted to do.
Just to be sure nothing was missed, here are the basic steps to do this:
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <existing wireless network's Network Name or SSID>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • Will the new mac mini work with the older Flat panel iMac globe speakers?

I am thinking it might be time to upgrade my 800mhz FP 17", and since i have an extra 22" monitor laying around being unused, i thought the Mac mini would be a drop in replacement...but then i thought about the imac FP speakers and i would like to keep using them...is anyone using these speakers with the mac mini?

The Apple 'Pro speakers' that were designed by Apple and Harman Kardon, use a proprietary 2.5mm mini jack connector and they would need an adapter to work.
Years ago there was a product called the 'iFire' that allowed those speakers to be used with other macs with a firewire port ..... Here's a site that I found that has more information than you'll need to know about the speakers and the adapter: http://maczealots.com/reviews/ifire/
At the time, the pro speakers technology was pretty cool ... combining power and digital audio into the one cable. I still think they look striking....
I did a bit of snooping around and couldn't find the adapter for sale (aside from a used one on Amazon for $199 ouch) .... I believe it has been discontinued.
I think you'll have to follow another route.....

  • Latest version that will work with Mac mini Core SOLO under Snow Leopard?

Latest Flash Player 11 versions will work with Snow Leopard, but they say they require a Core Duo or newer processor.  What is the last stable version of FP that will work on my mom's Mac mini 1.5Ghz Intel Core Solo (running OS X 10.6.8)?
Have searched archives and web for this and still draw a blank.  Thanks!

    Fixed it!
I mounted it in target mode again and manually applied the 10.5.4 combo updater ad it now boots again.

  • Will the new mac mini run FCP X well?

I currently use a mid 2009 17 inch Unibody MacBook Pro (3.06 Ghz intel core 2 duo, 8GB Ram, and upgraded 1TB SSD hardrive) and have experienced some lag when rendering projects while editing in FCP X.  The SSD harddrive upgrade has proved increase of overall performance tremendously.  However, I want more power.
My question is:  Will the new high end mac mini, which was just announced

You'll get less problems if you move your Events and Projects off of the system drive and on to a secondary drive, to start with.  Get a FW800 drive (I've been happy with on-the-go drives from Other World Computing for years), move all Events and Proejcts to it.
Mac Mini?  Only if you get it with 16GB RAM and the Fussion Drive (which no one has really tested for video editing yet, so I'd be cautious.  Better would be the SSD drive internally and a T'bolt drive for your Events and Projects.
But, I've not seen an reliable, verifiable reports about how it holds up to real world editing.  I personally won't touch anything until I see real world benchmarks for video editing specifically.

  • Will a current Mac Mini or MacBook Pro run Final Cut Pro 5.1.4?

My old G5 is really showing its age ...
I have FCS 1 - which was Universal Binary (Both PowerPC and Intel).
So will my old FCP work on a Lion, Intel Mac Mini? (Or Macbook Pro, for that matter!).
    Thanks.

So will any Snow Leopard version do?
And is it still available in the App Store, and for how much??
    (I can't tell as I'm stillon Leopard...)
    Thanks.

  • When will the new Mac Mini's ship

I just pre-ordered one from Amazon since they don't charge tax or shipping, but I was wondering when will Apple be shipping the Mac Mini's to retailers. If anyone knows, please tell me. And this is my first Mac, so I'm kind of excited about it.

The new 2011 Mac Mini with Lion is in the online Apple store from yesterday July 20th.
I had bought the previous 2010 Mac Mini with this schedule:
    June 21st, Ordering
June 21st, Bank transfer to Apple
June 23th, Apple confirmed it has received.
June 24th, Apple sent me an email with "thanks to buy apple"
June 27th, Apple sent the Mac Mini
    July, 6th. RECEIVED
I bought it directly from Apple Store, not Amazon.

  • Will an american Mac Mini work in the UK?

My girlfriend is bringing me one home from Georgia, and I suddenly got the fear that it might not work in the UK, can anybody help me?

Mark, your Mini will work in the UK and all around the world, however, the American plug will not work in the UK (if you have a Tri or Quad band cell phone you probably have two plugs, one for the UK and another - often built-in - for the US).
What you will need is the AC cord on page 7 of the Mac mini's manual.
Maybe your local Apple Store will be able to sell you one.

  • Logging into Mac mini from Asus Router

    Hi guys,
I am absolutely stumped on this and really need some help. I brought an asus router, which includes a feature called AIcloud. Now, this feature allows you to access shared folders on the mac through the router itself.
Now I have a sinology disk station and i can login into this, no problem.
However, for the life of me, I cannot login to my Mac Mini.
    This is the login screen.

  • Starcraft 2: Will the current Mac Mini run it?

hi all, i'm going to be picking up a Mac Mini in a couple days and wanted to know if starcraft 2 would run on it. i did a lot of searching it seems that all the posts were from 2011 and 2010 and a lot of them were running SC2 in Windows on the mac mini. i want to run the Mac Mini in OSX and i heard it doesn't run quite as well as it does in Windows and blizzard aren't great with fixing bugs in the Mac version. i'll be buying the current low end mac mini, i can get more RAM on it and i believe the CPU is more than enough, but the graphics card does worry me. i don't want to play on high settings, i just want to get great performance even if it runs on the lowest detail settings.
    thanks

    anyone?

  • Apple TV won't load or play movies from my MBP library (through both airplay and homesharing), but will from my mac mini. Help!

I have been using my apple TV seamlessly with all my apple products (Mac Mini, iphone, MBP, ipad). Everything worked perfectly until recently (I noticed the issue about 3 weeks ago), when the apple TV won't load and play any movies from my iTunes library located on my MBP. The Library loads, and I can see everything, but as soon as I press play, the spinning load icon appears and doesn't stop. Same when I play movie from itunes directly and send it via airplay. Desktop mirroring no problem.
I have checked, and films are being played perfectly from my other devices, as does airplay and mirroring

    Hello Tourneurm,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
This article might be of use for your issue.
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing

Section 8 seems to be most applicable.
    8. Cannot access my library when my computer is asleep
For Apple TV to access your library while the host computer is asleep, "Wake for network access" must be turned on.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and select (enable) the "Wake for network access" option.
In addition, the network that the host computer and the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) is connected to must support Wake on Demand feature. This works by partnering with a service running on your AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule called Bonjour Sleep Proxy.

  • Mac Mini used as Apple TV (airplay and apple remote on iphone/ipod)

Yesterday Apple announced the new Apple TV as an iOS device. It can be controlled using the apple remote app on an iphone or ipod touch. I am using a Mac Mini using Air Mouse to control the Mini which is hooked up to my TV. Would it be possible to use the Apple Remote app for this?

    Hi Bart,
you could use the itunes remote app to control your itunes music / videos from an iphone/ipod touch/ipad.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/remote/
Keep in mind the itunes currently uses the remote app in a different manor to the apple tv. I don't think you could use the itunes remote app to for instance rent movies. But ones you had the movie rented you could use the remote app to trigger playing /pausing the movie. But there are some advantages, like you can get a list of videos on the computer on the iOS device.

  • USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Will Not Mount (Mac Mini Duo)

I have recently purchased a refurbished USB 2.0 500 GB Lacie Big Disk d2 Hard Drive. It is supposed to be plug & play but I cannot get it to mount. I have tried Disk Utility but nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciaited. Thanks

System Profiler recognizes that it is connected but
nothing in the finder or disk utitlity.
What does it show up as in System Profiler?
Sounds like the USB interface is munged. When attaching the drive, always do it in this order:
    1. Turn on the drive
    2. Attach the USB cable to the drive
    3. Attach the USB cable to the computer
You might need to reboot to clear the USB bus. Then attach the drive again in that order. Actually, once it's attached, a reboot should also work. Try that first, if you're already attached, Then try a reboot attaching the drive in the proper order.
In the olden days, we used to recommend zapping the PRAM. Does that still apply these days?
