  • HT201084 My family shares one Apple ID on multiple devices.  How do I switch everyone over to their own Apple ID without having to erase their iphones and ipads?

My family currently shares one Apple ID on multiple devices and has for quite awhile.  How do I switch everyone over to their own Apple ID and the Family Sharing without having to erase their iphones and ipads?

Thank you again for your time, GB.
I set up individual Apple ID's for my children so that they could have their own Apple ID on their individual iPad minis (gifts from grandparents last year).  When I go to iCloud under Settings, I see my Apple ID listed at the top, then my children's listed under Family Sharing.  So the device is still using my Apple ID for iCloud, iTunes, etc., correct?
To "assign" their own Apple ID to their own iPad mini, I would need to "Sign Out" from my Apple ID.  When I attempt to do so, I receive a warning that all of the Documents and Data will be lost/deleted.
So, instead of doing this, I figured out that I could do what you suggested.  Signing in using a child's Apple ID will allow her/him to use Game Center, FaceTime, and Messages just fine.  However, using their Apple ID for iTunes & App Store proved to be a problem:  Purchased Music and Movies appeared in iTunes, but my Purchased Apps did not appear.  Some Apps even disappeared, e.g. Proloquo4Text (a $99 app to help my son speak with his iPad).
So I reverted to using my Apple ID for iTunes & App Store, and I get everything that I want, EXCEPT for the iCloud storage for each Apple ID.
So that's when I started wondering how Family Sharing was really benefiting me ~ It was a lot of work (deleting apps to allow space to download iOS 8, etc) without any benefit that I can see.  UNLESS I find a means to allow me to sign in each iPad's iCloud account with a different AppleID, then perhaps restore the Documents and Data from a backup?  Would that work?
    Thanks.

  • HT4314 I have 4 iPads and one apple Id. Two the devices record clash of clans and dragonvale individually and the other two are tied to the other two. Drives my kids nuts. How do I fix this?

I have 4 iPads and one apple Id. Two the devices record clash of clans and dragonvale individually and the other two are tied to the other two. Drives my kids nuts. How do I fix this?

Also, I'd prefer to keep the same ID on both so I will keep access to my calendar/contacts/etc on both devices.  Would I be able to share reminders and voice memos and the like as well?  And how often would they update each other?  If I edit a contact on the 5, and the 4 is in wifi, assuming they're both on my same ID, will the contact update on the 4?

  • I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.

I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.
I have been reasearching how to do this on the internet, but I haven't found an easy explanation yet.  My family is going crazy over each others imessages being sent to others in the family and not being able to use FaceTime because of conflicting email addresses.  I have read that if each person gets their own iCloud account, this would work.  However, I need to know what to do after I set everyone up with their own iCloud account.  Do I make that the default email address to be contacted or can they still use their hotmail email addresses.  Any help- with easy explanation- would be much appreciated!!

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.

  • Our family has one apple account, but several devices linked to it.  How do I sync my device (Ipad) without getting all my 11 year old daughter's apps on it?

I need help syncing my Ipad.  Our family uses one apple account for multiple devices... how do I sync my ipad without getting all my daughters apps?  How do I know which of my apps need to be synced to the computer?

Simply select only the apps that you want to sync to your iPad and then sync. You can control what syncs to the iPad. You may be best served by turning off auto sync.
Launch iTunes and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says - Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Click OK.
Connect your iPad to the computer.
    Launch iTunes
Click on the iPad name on the left side under the Devices heading.
Click on the Apps Tab in the iTunes window on the right.
Click on only the apps that you want to sync in the list of apps under the Sync Apps heading.
Make sure that the Sync Apps heading is checked.
Click on Apply in the lower corner of iTunes.

  • Can u use more than one apple account on your device and itunes

Can u use more than one apple account on your device and itunes

Yes, but you have to logout of one, and login to the other.
If it is an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and you buy apps on different accounts, when it comes time to update an app, you have to specify the password for the account used to acquirer the app. You change an iOS account via Settings -> Store -> Apple ID (tap on it), and start by logging out and then you can enter the other Id
So it is possible, but it can also be a pain.

Delete your account in 1. "Settings > iCloud" + 2. "Settings > Messages > Send & Receive" + 3. "Settings > FaceTime", but still let them using your account for iTunes and app purchases in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Of course, please make sure that they do not know your password to set up your account for iCloud again or purchase anything alone.

I have 2 iphones4! Do I have to create one apple id for each device or I can have both in one apple id? I'm asking cause I'm trying to run findmyiphone app for both devices!

Here's what I do. My wife and  I each have an iPhone. We each have our own Apple ID. I also have another totally separate Apple ID. The ONLY thing that one has been used for was to set up Find my iPhone for our phones and my iPad. There is no reason the MobileMe setting for find my iphone can't be something completely different from your regular Apple ID UNLESS you already use MobileMe, in which case the 2 conflict in ways I don't understand as I don't subscribe to it.

  • Is it ok to use one apple id for two devices ?

is it ok to use one apple id for two devices ?

Here's the deal: The SLA permits the "sharing" of content with up to 5 family members in the same household. Any other distribution of content is considered stealing...the SLA does not give you the right to distribute content in any way, shape or form. Its really that simple, and "friend" is NOT a family member living in the same household.

As far as i know, yes. What devices are you using, and try iCloud depending on your device type.

iCloud setup with one Apple ID and multiple devices

What, exactly, are you trying to do? You can use the same iCloud account on as many devices as you want, as long as you don't turn on iTunes Match. Once you turn on Match, you're limited to 10 devices total.
Is this what you want to do...same iCloud account, but different iTunes/App store accounts on each device? If so, you can do that also.

  • Should I use one apple id with multiple devices?

I have 2 iPods an iPad and a new iPhone. Should I use the same Apple ID on all decvices?  The iPods are for the kids to use. Also, will be adding apple tv soon...

I registered my daughters two I touches using my apple I'd , but now told I should use separate IDs even though only my credit card is to be used when authorized by me.  As I try to figure this very confusing dilemma out, didninunderstand correctly that if I remove their devices now from my ID, they can't be associated with another device for 90 days?  Is their a walk thru tutorial somewhere about how to do this bc I'm beginning to think some mistakes are irreversible for 90 days if you try to figure it out and are wrong!

  • I have two Apple IDs, and this is causing problems with syncing via iCloud. How do I move everything to one ID? All advice is for setting up, not for after it's already set up.

My problem is that I have been a Mobile Me user for the past couple of years, and because of that a second Apple ID was generated in addition to the one I've been using for years. When iCloud was introduced last fall I did everything I was supposed to in setting it up, but it is evident that the syncing is not working as it should. In checking, I am certain this is because I now have two active Apple IDs. I would assume this is a common issue with all who were/are Mobile Me users.
The online help says you can't merge two IDs. Okay. What I want to do is to get rid of the Moble Me ID and only use my regular Apple ID. But the help on that issue seems to only give instructions for setting up the iCloud account. It seems that when I go into my iCloud accounts, both on my iPhone and my Mac, I can view the ID but there is no way to change them to another ID or to eliminate the account.
Please help. I am a long-time Apple user and this really should be a fairly simple matter to take care of, but this is one issue where the normally user-friendly Apple way of life is giving me fits. Thanks.

I am logged into the same things on both my iPhone and my MacBook Pro, except for mail. I use a gmail IMAP account and everything there already works on both machines. The iCloud account on my iPhone uses one Apple ID and the one on the Mac uses the second Apple ID.

  • HT204053 i want to use one apple ID for multiple devices. how will i be able to load the apps on all devices?

I am trying to set up 7 new ipads with the same apple ID. How will i be able to pay for the apps once and identify that the other devices should load them too?

If they are using the same apple ID, then you don't need to worry. You can install apps on as many devices you want.

  • Can there be more than one apple id on a device?

We have 4 iPhones, 1 Macbook Pro, and 2 iPad Mini's.  Currently my wife and I have separate Apple Id's which works great for our iPhones.  However, our 2 children now have iPhones and iPad Mini's and I don't want to have to purchase the same Apps and music 2,3, or even 4 times so that everybody in the family can use them.  I understand home sharing is designed to solve this problem however I am not clear as to how this works exactly. Obviously I don't want my children/wife to sync my info to their devices and vice versa.
So far we have two apple Id's [email protected] and WifeAppleId.mail.com.  My children will need their own apple id's as well so that they can use iMessage on their phones and also to keep their stuff separate when syncing.  Therefore I would create [email protected] and [email protected] Now everybody's iPhone will have their own apple id and sync independently of one another.  Obviously each person would have their own account on the family Macbook Pro for syncing their devices with iTunes.
In order to share apps and music (at least knew apps/music) I now need to enable Home Sharing.  This is the part I'm a bit confused about.
Do I create a fifth apple id say [email protected] and use this to configure home sharing on the Macbook Pro?
Do I configure Home Sharing for each user account on the family computer?
Now everybody will need to have two apple id's on each of their devices, for example MyAppleId and FamilyAppliId will need to be configured on my iPhone, WifeAppleId and FamilyAppleId will need to be configured on my wife's phone, SonAppleId and FamilyAppleId will need to be configured on my son's iPhone and iPad Mini, and the same for my daughter.
How do I associate two apple id's with each device?  How do I sync a device with two apple id's?
I'm hoping someone can answer this question as clearly as possible

I will share with you what I have done to manage this with my family.  While the solution isn't without flawes, it seems to do the trick.  First, you need to have one person who is managing the synching of everyone's devices.  In my family, I have three iphones, about to be four, and five ipads.  We all synch to the same apple ID to allow one another to take seemless advantage of our Itunes, which is on our Imac.  To synch individual music or video interests, we simply select which playlists we want and manually synch that way.  A couple of us use imatch and the cloud to make the entire library accessable as well.  With respect to the imessage, mail, contacts, etc. we each have a gmail account for our individual emails, contacts etc.  So for instance, my forth grade daughter has a gmail account that we choose to synch her contacts, calendar, etc to and then that is also the account where she receives her imessages from on her ipad and itouch. My son, who has an iphone and ipad, does the same thing, but under settings, he goes to imessage and checks his phone number and his email as his preferred way to receive imessages and texts.  My wife and I do the same thing.  To avoid having everyone see one anothers contracts etc, we only synch contacts from our individual email accounts.  Here is the downfall to this:  When you update your phone or add a new device, apple always wants to reset everyone's facetime and imessage settings and then low and behold we are all receiving imessages from one another's friends etc.  To work around this, I simply take each of their devices and go to their imessage settings and only check the email and phone numbers relative to their devices.  I dont' know is this is the best solution, but it seems to work for us.
