Will I be able to sync?

I currently am using a Dell, but I am going to get an iMac 20" pretty soon. I was wondering if I would be able to sync my iPod's and iPhone with the iMac since they are originally synced with windows. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, you will probably have to Format them for Mac..at present I presume they are in WinDoze format..L

as long as you make sure your iTunes is authorized for both Apple ID's, yes.

    Yes, you will.

I suspect design rather than a bug, it's too useful. The behaviour seems to have been consistent for quite a long time on both Windows and Mac machines...
Here are the typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
In the layout above right, with the media folder (everything in the red box) inside the library folder, the library will be portable. A portable library can be moved from one path to another, or even between Windows & Mac computers, without breaking the links between the library and the media, and being self-contained is much easier to backup (You do backup, don't you?). Anything that isn't stored inside the media folder must stay put or be restored to precisely the same path on a new machine or iTunes won't know where to find it. Within the media folder the relative paths from the library to the media remain unchanged and iTunes can cope even when the absolute paths are updated.
Should your library not be in the usual layout I've written some general posts on how to make a split library portable or I can give specific instructions on request.

Yes, but all the data from your sisters PC will be erased and replaced with yours, which is probably what you want anyhow.

  • HT1451 My 2004 iPod doesn't work with my new Windows 8 computer. If I get a new iPod nano, will I be able to sync my content from my old iPod?

If I replace my 2005-era iPod with a new nano, will I be able to sync my existing content? Currently my Windows 8 will not allow me to access my music, etc., although I can see it. Took forever to event get iTunes to recognize my device--lots of removing of Apple software, downloading again, etc.

You can sync from your computer to your ipod.

  • I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone as well, will I be able to sync my iPhone with my existing iTunes library?

Hi, I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone to use as well, will I be able to use them both from the same computer or will there be some problems?

Yes.  There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPods, or iPhones you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account.  See this article for different ways to manage multiple devices.

  • Will I be able to sync/copy the music I buy from the iTunes Music Store to my Nokia N8?

I am new to the iTunes Music Store, which was recently enabled for my home country. I've set up my account and am ready to buy music. However, before buying any music from the store, I want to be sure that I will be able to sync or copy the tracks or albums between my computer and my Nokia N8. If that's possible, how will I need to sync? Using the Nokia Suite software, which is how I usually sync music? Or using iTunes? Thanks in advance!

Music from the iTunes Store comes as 256kbps AAC. If your Nokia will accept that format, then you can transfer the tracks to your phone via whatever method the Nokia uses (iTunes itself syncs only to Apple devices). If your Nokia does not accept 256kbps AAC, then you can convert the tracks to a format the Nokia can accept. See:

  • Will I be able to sync/restore my iphone 5 from my iphone 4 backup?

As the title says, when I get my iphone 5 will I be able to restore the iphone 5 from my iphone 4 back up to save having to re-organise my apps, and losing my text messages etc?

Mine synced fine from my iphone 4 back up. The only thing was that it completely mirrored the 4 so only put 4 rows of apps per home screen on so had to rearrange the apps slightly. I back up to iTunes not iCloud though as you only have limited back up on iCloud unless you pay extra. Maybe reset and erase your iphone 5 and try again but check you still have your iphone 4 back up in iTunes first. If not and you have your 4 still, make a new back up to itunes then sync your 5 from this. I still sync basic stuff like contacts, calendar and notes to iCloud though, therefore Ill never lose them (in theory).
Are you using Mac or windows?

  • Will I be able to sync my mail with my mac when I convert to iCloud?

I was just going to update my mobile me account and was reading the little intro they have for iCloud.  There it says that syncing mail and mail accounts will not be available.  Am I interpreting this wrong?

you can still sync Mail accounts from Mac to iOS via iTunes. Only the icloud me.com mail is handled over icloud to iOS/icloud.com and Mac OS X ( provided it runs Lion 10.7.2 ).

  • Will I be able to sync on both mac and pc?

I'm planning to buy an iPod but right now, I don't have access to my MBP (which I primarily use) and thought that I could sync my stuff from the PC. I'll eventually get my MBP back and would like to use it there. Is it possible to sync on both a Mac and a PC? Or do I have to restore it to factor settings or something to get it sorted out? Or is there a switch I can flip when I switch from PC to Mac?

    To switch syncing computer see:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
While you can sync music and videos from any iTunes library using the manual method of syncing
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
You can only sync all media for the one syncing computer you have have

  • HT3819 If there are multiple iTunes libraries on one computer, will I be able to only sync my own?

I have a shared computer where my iTunes is at because until now I didn't have the right memory or speed to have iTunes on my previous laptops. I just want to make sure that if I use Home Sharing that I will only be able to sync my library to my laptop, and not my brothers as well.

Sync your library to your laptop from where?
Wiht Home Sharing enabled, you will be able to see all other libraries opened ont eh same network and authorized for Home Sharing with the same account.
