I was just wondering because I have paid for many apps, I am getting a new iPhone and if I type my current Apple ID into my new phone will I be able to download them on to my new phone?

If the apps are in iTunes on your computer now, then yes, you'll get them back. Or you can probably re-download them from the iTunes Store:

when you open the app store scroll down to the bottom it will display the apple id currently in use, change it to your normal apple id email

I was using my ipod not only for iTunes purchases, but also Amazon music. The current Amazon music app isn't compatible and it doesn't offer the old one. Normally when you connect a new iPhone to your computer iTunes will recognize it as a new iPhone and ask you how would you like to set it up. If you didn't get that screen then you may have used the iPhone prior. If it didn't then try deleting all data then connect the iPhone 4 to the computer and it should go to the iPhone setup screen where it will give you the opportunity to setup your iPhone as a new device (the name of your old iPhone should be in the name box). If that don't happen then do this, keep your iPhone connected to the computer, launch iTunes then click on the iPhone icon in the left window then click on the app tab on the main window make sure all of the app have a check in the check box, also check all of your other tabs then re-sync.

1. yesterday, my phone started showing the "connect to itunes" and emergency call only screen. I saw some advice in the forums about connecting it to a computer, but had never done so, so didn't think it applied to me. What caused this to happen??
2. I called AT&T, who had me download itunes on my work computer (can't get up the stairs to home computer after knee surgery, specifically asked if this would damage anything on my phone and was told no. after downloading latest itunes and connecting to this computer, all my apps, photos, contacts, everything is gone. Is there anything I can do to get that stuff back? Kids' 8th bday phontos on there...

Not sure what happened but whatever happened was a major problem if the only option was connecting your iPhone to iTunes which requires restoring your iPhone with iTunes.

AT&T handles problems with their network, which the problem with your iPhone had nothing to do with. It would have been better to call AppleCare for this instead.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred to an iPhone from a single computer only.
When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first with a warning message provided indicating this will occur - the first warning message provided is your iPhone has been synced with an iTunes library on a different computer.
An exception to the warning message provided would be if restoring an iPhone with iTunes is required, which apparently was the case in your situation. Restoring an iPhone with iTunes completely erases the iPhone first followed by the firmware being re-installed. If this is done with the computer you normally sync your iPhone with, you have the option to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup which must be followed by a sync to re-transfer your selected iTunes content and any photos from your computer to your iPhone. None of this data is available with the computer used to restore your iPhone.

Your apps will only be where you put them. if you failed to put them on your computer beore updating, then they would certainly be gone.

Do you have an Restrictions set that would hide the apps? Settings>General>Restrictions
Have you used the Spotlight search? Maybe you just can't find them.

Instructions on syncing your iPad can be found here:

and in the accompanying documents linked from that page. Syncing your iPad with iTunes copies items, it doesn't move them. The only way apps would be actually removed from your iPad during syncing is if you had iTunes set to remove them on syncing, so check the appropriate settings in iTunes, set the book to sync as well, and then sync the iPad again.
