Will I loose my Apps switching my ipod from a PC to a MAC?

I had to set my Ipod touch up originally on my boyfriends PC because my G4 and my eMac were both "too old to have the new version of Itunes". Now that Ive gotten my laptop updated I can load my music to my ipod. But Ive spent over 75$ in App's and games for this ipod. So my question is how do I ensure I dont loose all that money and applications? I cant even get into my purchased music in itunes so far!!

A manual backup will help in your situation. Here's how to:
Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes/settings/devices, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Switching an iPod from a PC to a Mac

I just bought a new MacBook and my iPod was previously configured with a PC. I don't want the PC anymore, so I would like to configure my iPod for the Mac. Is there a way to do that without losing all of my music?

When you say "configure", do you mean reformat the iPod software from Windows to Mac? That isn't really necessary because you can use a Windows formatted iPod on a Mac whilst it is still Windows formatted, and indeed, many people do. The only downside is that you wouldn't be able to update the iPod software in the future unless you did it via a Windows PC.
Or maybe you mean transfer all your music files to the Mac? You can do this from PC to Mac and here's a guide (it covers all files not just music).
    Switch 101.
If you no longer have access to the PC and the music is on your iPod, you can transfer it from there to your new Mac and subsequently iTunes.
Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, before you connect the iPod go to iTunes/preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods".
An alternative method is to connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'Command + Option' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Try iPodDisk. This is a program designed to transfer music from iPod to computer.
Similar programs are Expod, Yamipod, Senuti and Music Rescue.
If you want to retrieve playlists, iPodRip has the feature enabling you to reconstruct them.
Any of these should work with a Windows formatted iPod because Macs can read and write to FAT32 formatted drives.
iPodRip also works with Windows formatted iPods.
Once the music is in your new Mac iTunes installation (and not before), you can connect your iPod and when you see the message about a different library/syncing your iPod to the new library, you can click "yes".
Then, if you no lnger will be using the iPod on a Windows PC, you can restore the iPod which will reformat it for Macs.
Anything you don't understand or I've not made clear, please post back.

  • How Do You Switch Music/iPod From A PC to A Mac?

I started off using a PC with my iPod. Now I have an iMac with Mac OS X Version 10.4.8. I have the newest iTunes downloaded on it, but when I plug my iPod (5th Generation Video) in, it claims my iPod could not be used because I need to download the newest version of iTunes. Do I need to completely restore my iPod in order to use it on my new computer? That seems like a huge hassle, and I'm really hoping there's another way.
    Thank you
    Kelsey

I moved my iTunes library from a PC to iBook G4 with OS X 10.4.8
There is a lot of info on this from a variety of sources including the Apple website. I found the easiest way was to copy my files from the PC to the Mac using the iPod as a hard drive. To do it this way, you have to have enough space on the iPod, so check how much space the music takes up on the iPod -- you'll need about double that amount to make this method work.
To summarize what I did: enable your iPod as a hard drive (this is a menu choice in iTunes when your iPod is connected to the PC). While in iTunes (on the PC), select Advanced and then Consolidate Libray; this will put all of your iTunes music into one folder.
Assuming you have enough space on the iPod, you can then copy all of the contents of your iTunes music folder onto the iPod using Windows Explorer. Then, connect the iPod to your Mac and copy all the files into the iTunes folder on the Mac.
If you have an older version of iTunes on the Mac then the version on the PC, you might need to update the Mac. The most recent version of iTunes is 7.0.2 (15). This update shouldn't cause any problems.
Hope this helps but if not, do a search on the Apple Forums or using Google. You'll see lots of ideas and ways, and might find one that works better for you than what I've described.
By the way, once you're done and everything is working properly, be sure to deauthorize your old PC in iTunes from the 'Store' menu.

  • Will all my current apps in my ipod be deleted -ios5

will all my current apps in my ipod be deleted when i install ios 5? wat can i do to prevent it from deleting? how to back up?

They shouldn't be deleted but if so, all you have to do is reinstall the apps on your iPod Touch from your iTunes library. All apps on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library. If not, with your iPod connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPod. After confirming all apps on your iPod are in your iTunes library, select Sync Apps under the Apps tab for your iPod sync preferences with iTunes making sure all apps below are selected followed by a sync.

  • HT1386 When I update my IPad to the IOS 5 system will I lose my apps that I purchased from the ITunes store?

I have an IPad 2.  I want to update it to an IOS 5.  Will I lose my apps that I purchased from the ITune store?

What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings  - so make sure you backup first. If something goes awry when you update, with regard to apps, you can download them again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought them with.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.
    Transfer purchases.

I'm planing on giving my ipod to my brother, I want to get out of my itunes account so he can get on his but he wants some of the apps that I already have. If I logout of my Itunes account will my apps still be on my ipod?

It will not remove any media form the iPod except if you sign out/delete tjhe iClould account Contacts Calendar, Notes and Reminderswill be deleted.
    Note:
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • How can i switch an ipod from my itunes account to my sisters?

i am giving my ipod to my sister but i don't know how to remove the ipod from my itunes account and add it to my sisters new itunes account

The easiest way to change the account you are using on your mobile device is to scroll down to the bottom of the iTunes Store or App Store on the device and tap the Apple ID button. Then:
    - To sign out, or to sign in to a different account, tap the Sign Out button.
    - To sign back in, tap the Sign In button, then tap either Use Existing Apple ID or Create New Apple ID, and follow the on-screen instructions from there.

  • Switching an iPod from Windows to Mac

I am about to buy my stepson a Mac to replace his PC. He wants to be able to transfer his iTunes library from the PC to his new Mac and I am hoping that he can do this using his iPod. Will this work and is there anything I need to do other than plug the iPod into the new computer?

You didn't say how big your library is how which iPod you have. While you could use the backup DVD option, in my opinion, if your iPod is big enough to hold your entire iTunes folder, it would be a lot easier to use the iPod to move the folder over to the new computer in one step vs. a series of DVD backups.
That said, once you have your stuff over on the Mac you have two choices with your iPod.
    1) You can either just leave it as PC format. When you plug it in, the Mac iTunes will tell you that the iPod is synced with a library on a different computer (your old PC) and do you want to sync it instead to this library (the one on the Intel Mac). Say yes, the iPod will be wiped clear and the library from the Mac will be put on it. You are now synced to your Mac library on a PC formatted iPod, which is fine, since Macs can read PC formatted iPods just fine. If you enable Disk Mode you can still use the iPod on PCs as a hard drive to move files around. Or if you change the iPod to manually updating (instead of auto updating) then you can use your iPod on both your machines and be able to add songs from either library onto the iPod as well as using it as a drive on either machine. But you will have to now manually manage the iPod.
    2) You can restore the iPod on the Mac which will now reformat it to Mac format and then will sync your library from the Mac onto the newly formatted iPod. As you mentioned, your old computer will not be able to read the Mac formatted iPod so you won't be able to use it on that machine anymore unless you went back and reformatted it to a PC format iPod.
One other thing to keep in mind, when in PC format, the iPod on the Mac will not be updated (or even tell you there are updates available) with new firmware if it gets released. It has to be in Mac format for that on the Mac computer. However if you don't have any intention of upgrading the firmware then this isn't really an issue. As an example, a new firmware might be release which is to support some new iPod gadget or iTunes store feature. If you don't want the gadget or the iTunes store feature, you may not want to update the firmware anyway, so no big deal.
But if a new firmware release comes out that you do want, you can either update it on the old PC or you have to reformat it on the Mac.

  • Switching my ipod from windows to mac

I am going to be buying the mac mini duo and i currently have an ipod+hp. Now my question is will i be able to still use the ipod i have now when i get my mac or will i have to buy a new ipod? Also what would i have to make my ipod for disk use and transfer my music that way or would i have to do something different?

Easiest thing to do (in my opinion) is to use the current computer to set the iPod to manually manage its songs.
Then, on the new machine, you can download the program Senuti to transfer your music to the new computer.
You won't have to reformat the iPod, but if you don't plan to use it with a PC anymore, you'll want to once you've got all the music on the Mac Mini.

  • What content will I loose if I restore my phone from backup?

I need to restore my iPhone4S from a backup, but I am scared that I will loose photos and videos.
Is it guarenteed that everything will be brought back?

If you restore from backup, ALL data, currently on your phone, will be erased. If you have any data that you want to save...pics, etc.,...you need to first import to your computer.

There is, but not for CS5 any more.
Adobe has a platform transfer procedure (for perpetual license products) whereby you can terminate your Windows license and swap to a Mac license but it's only applicable to current versions of the software (CS6)

The Creative Cloud products are all multi-platform so they can be installed on Mac and/or Windows.

  • Will I loose my apps if I setup a new Apple ID

    Hi,
My old ipad has been lying around for couple of months unused so I am thinking of giving it to my dad. On that ipad I have several apps (both paid and free). Now before I give it to my dad, I would of course erase the ipad (and remove my apple id from it). My dad then would create a new id for himself.
My questions is, would doing above preserve my apps? Please note that I don't have any other apple device at the moment so my apple id will not be used anywhere.
The idea is when I get around to buying a new ipad in some months, I would like to put in my apple id and have all the apps there.
    Thanks!
    -ankit

Sorry for being a thick head but if i understood you correctly,
    1. If I simply backup my apple account to itunes, it would backup a list of the apps. Now if i restore that account in future to a new ipad, it would re-download the apps in the backup list (as long as they are available in itunes store). For the apps that are paid (and for which i have already paid once), would i need to pay again on the new ipad?
    2. If I do a 'Transfer Purchase Function', then it'll transfer the purchase to my computer which then can be restored to the new ipad.
    Did I understand it correctly?
    Thanks!
