Will I lose all of my documents saved on my Time Capsule if I reset it in order to get the Airport wireless router working again?

Hello I am having problems with my Time Capsule (2nd Gen) and being able to get the wireless signal working throughout my house.  I have concluded the only step I need to try to fix this is to reset the Time Capsule.
My concern is that if I reset the capsule I will lose all of the documents off of the external hard drive of the Time Capsule.  Will this happen?
Is there anyway to avoid losing these files, or is there some way to attach a USB cord to the Time Capsule and be able to retrieve my files?
Thanks for any help out there.

Correct.. no files are lost in resets..
Plug the TC straight into the computer by ethernet.. use a LAN port of the TC. <-->
Factory reset.
The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.
When it comes backup the TC will have an IP of 10.0.1.1 and the computer will be 10.0.1.2
You can access all your files on the TC.. with very minimal setup.. but Mavericks can be a right royal pain.
If the disk doesn't show up in Finder.. manually mount it.
Go, Connect to Server..
AFP://10.0.1.1 and when the computer finds the resource it will ask for a password.. type in public unless you changed it.
You should now be able to access the files.
I recommend if you have important stuff on the TC you do not want to lose.. get a USB (or faster) drive today.. plug it into the computer and make a backup.. the TC is not adequate as a NAS or file server as it has no ability to either backup itself or even have TM back it up.

Im having a problem with my pages application. So i want to uninstall it and reinstall it. If I do this, will I lose all my pages documents?

As long as you have saved the documents somewhere sensible on your Hard Drive, like in Documents you will be fine.
Back them up anyway to another location.

I'm looking for a backup solution for my new MacBook Air and I don't want to spend $200 extra for a Time Capsule when an NAS would do the job.

No. TM will not backup to any NAS other than Time Capsule

I should just change the OS and leave all your apps and data alone.  That said, if any of your apps are old and use Rosetta (ppc apps), they won't run under Mountain Lion.
Make sure you take a good Time Machine or Clone backup before you convert.

  • HT4972 I want to upgrade iOS, from 4.3.3. Will I lose all my apps?

In order to upgrade the version I understand that I need to sync my iPad then update via iTunes. Will I lose all my apps or are these saved? What about apps I've bought?
    Thanks!

If you have never synced the iPad to the computer that are intending to do the update by then this page may be of use : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
In terms of the actual update, connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) - that should copy all of your apps (purchases or free) and other iTunes purchases over (music, films etc). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
An iPad 1 will update to iOS 5.1.1, and an iPad 2 and 3 to iOS 6.0.1 - they are the only versions that are 'signed' by Apple for them.

  • Will I lose all of my music if I uninstall then reinstall itunes?

Im unable to open iTunes on my computer since I updated to the latest version. This message appears "QuickTime was not found. QuickTime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." If I do so, will I lose all of my music? How can I fix this so I can sync my phone?
    Thanks

No, you won't lose any music. iTunes is simply a method for playing the music on your computer
You can remove and reinstall and upon doing so, you should be asked to specify where your music is, if in fact it is somewhere other than the standard place - ie
    C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxxxxx\My Documents\My Music
Not sure what happens to your image files though, in terms of cover art etc
You'll more than likely lose play counts also, if that's of concern
    Sure someone else will confirm
Does uninstalling, then reinstalling iTunes affect saved artwork?
And will doing so also delete and 'lose' play counts etc?

  • Hi, I need to re-format my hard drive, as it has a virus, so will lose all my data including itunes. I therefore need to reinstall itunes - but if I do this will I lose all the music that I have bought? How do I reinstall music to the new itunes?

Hi, I need to re-format my hard drive, as it has a virus and is corrupted- so I will lose all my data including my itunes software. I guess I will need to reinstall itunes again - but if I do this will, I lose all the music that I have bought or imported into my library? How do I reinstall my library/playlists to the new itunes?
    Thanks

Make a backup of your media and other important files.
Just to be safe, make a backup of your entire iTunes directory.
Restore computer or do whatever it is you need to do.
Restore your media and other important documents.
    Install iTunes.
Try using search next time... this gets asked way too frequently.

If they just delete iTunes, the music files should still be there. I suggest making a backup of them though. Locate your iTunes folder (The one that contains your library file) and just copy the whole thing to your Documents folder or wherever you like (Just not in the same directory of the original folder otherwise the computer will get confused and could confuse your iTunes library). Then you will have a backup of all your music, plus if you purchased it from iTunes, you will still have it linked to your Apple ID so you can re-download them to any computer with iTunes on it when you feel like it.

  • Will i lose all my information if i change operating systems

Will I lose all my personal information, documents, music, movies, and apps, if I change operating systems?

Normally no. But you should always have a backup just in case disaster strikes or a meteor.

  • When updating my itunes up came: itunes won't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing - try reinstalling.  Where the file went I have no idea but, if I re-install will I lose all my purchases?

When updating my itunes on my PC (Windows 7) this message came up:  Itunes program won't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing.  Try reinstalling to fix this problem.
If I re-install, will I lose all my downloaded songs and other data I've accumulated over time?
    Thanks!!

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:

  • I'm changing my broadband provider - will I lose all my bookmarks?

This may be a silly question, but will I lose all my Firefox bookmarks when I change my internet service? I currently have Time Warner digital service, but am moving out of state and will likely have Comcast as my future provider. Thanks.

No, the bookmarks are all saved to the Firefox Profile on your comp, service provider will make no difference.
Only thing you'll lose is any unsaved email and contacts if you used Time Warner's email service. Its always better to keep you email ISP agnostic by going with Google Mail, Yahoo mail, Mail.com etc so you don't have the hassle when switching ISPs in search of a better price.

  • I was syncing my ipod touch on a friend's computer and now want to sync to my new mac book, will I lose all my stuff?

I was syncing my ipod touch on a friend's computer and now want to sync to my new mac book, will I lose all my stuff?

Not if you do the following:
    - Transfer iTunes purchased to the new computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using one of the third-party programs discussed here:
    new PC: Apple Support Communities
    - Move a copy of the iPod backup file from the old to new computer.  That file is located here:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    - After the stuff is moved/transfered, restore the iPod from the backup you just moved to the new computer and sync as necessary.
