Will I lose current info i.e. contacts on iPhone if I restore to a previous date

Will I lose current info i.e new contacts on iPhone if I restore to a previous date?

Yes, you will.
Restoring is an "all or nothing" proposition.  When you restore, everything will appear as it did back then.

No, but that does not mean that you should not backup first, unless you like taking chances that is.

  • Will I lose my email folders and contacts addresse...

Will I lose my email folders and contacts addresses ???
Just this week changed from Talk Talk /toucansurf to a BT broadband and phone service.
I can access my emails ie receive and send from my new BT yahoo account and have good connection to the internet
    BUT
Before I totally cancel my  Talk Talk account I need to know whether the
    1)existing emails in my inbox
    2) the emails that are stored in folders I have created
    3) and my contacts address book
will disappear when I make the full switch ????
    Thanks
Sorry, think I posted this in another area too as was unsure)
(once this question is answered I need to ask another but this one is more important - cheers)
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You should be able to export your contacts to a file, then import them to your BT account. As for folders, if they are stored within the Windows Live program, they you should be able to save the contents.
If they are stored on a remote server, and you access them by webmail, then you may lose them unless you use an IMAP account to duplicate the folders on your computer, where you can save the contents.
Really this is an issue you need to ask about here http://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums/
as they are more likely to know how their email servers work.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • HT1766 will I lose my unlock if I update my iPhone 4S iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7.0 beta?

will I lose my unlock if I update my iPhone 4S iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7.0 beta?

You can't update your iPhone to iOS 7 beta unless you are a registered developer with Apple.  iOS 7 will not be available to the public until this Fall, so if you are not a developer you'll just have to wait like the rest of us until it is released.
If you are a deveoper then go and ask this question in your own private deveoper forums and don't discuss anything to do with beta software in a public user forum - you are violating the terms of the NDA that you signed.
It does not sound as if you are a developer, so what you are doing would amount to downloading and installing illegal software on your phone.

  • HT1766 How do i combine 2 distinctly unique backups so as to merge my notes and contacts ?  Can i simply restore both and the data will be merged, or will one complete backup merely overwrite the other ?

you can't merge backups.  it's all or nothing.  one or the other.

  • Message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data"

Hello all. I recently replaced the HD in my MacBook Pro. Just after, I retrieved my old files from the Time Machine backup, which I made just before the replacement. During the first sync of my iPhone via iTunes and while I was trying to sync my contacts I saw the message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data". After that, I lost my iPhone contacts (I have them only from iCloud). The only problem is contacts, all the others (Calendars, Apps) are normally syncing. Does anybody has a solution? Thanks in advance!

    hello,
There was a similiar posting that I have seen from others and they found out that the back up was bad. https://discussions.apple.com/message/6139533#6139533
I would use a previous backup (earlier one) to the one you have tried to just do.

  • Restore WinXP, will I lose my info if I reinstall itunes ?

Did you include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data before restoring your computer?
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only. When syncing iTunes content with a different computer, all iTunes content on your iPhone that was transferred to your iPhone from another computer will be erased first. The same applies to photos transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. Your iPhone will detect your computer as a new or different computer since you restored it - even if you included your iTunes library with your computer's backup and restore your iTunes library from your backup after restoring your computer.
Contact info is designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer. With XP, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events, or with the address book used by Outlook Express.
When syncing iTunes content with a new or different computer, contact info on your iPhone will not be erased or touched, unless you are syncing contact info with a supported address book application on your computer.
If you are syncing contact info and calendar events with Outlook 2003 or 2007 and you didn't include your Outlook data with your computer's backup before restoring your computer - your Outlook address book and calendar is empty, before syncing this data with Outlook, enter one contact in the address book and one calendar event in Outlook. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select. The same applies to the address book used by Outlook Express before syncing contact info with the address book used by OE.
If you didn't include your iTunes library with your computer's backup before restoring your computer, iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content from an iPod or iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only. First you need to re-authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
iTunes includes a preference setting to disable automatic syncing when any iPod or iPhone is connected. Go to iTunes preferences. Under the devices tab, select disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods before connecting your iPhone.

  • If I download the new version will I lose the info I already have?

I have 6.0 but want to download the 7.0 version. Will I lose the 1548 songs I currently have on the 6.0 version if I download the new version or will all info transfer?

Everything will transfer just fine---you'll just a get a new interface and some new functions, but all your music and playlists, whatever, will still be just as you set it up in iTunes 6.
Although, I use iTunes on my Mac and I have had no problems, and it seems that some people are having some trouble with iTunes 7 on Windows, so maybe you might want to check through the forums and maybe wait a bit.

  • Will I lose current music?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but must I have all my music saved on my hard drive before I upgrade? When I try to "upgrade" it takes me to the "install 7.5" page. I'm afraid it will install 7.5 and erase the music I currently have on whatever edition on iTunes I have now.

No, you will not lose music when you upgrade. You harddrive saves the music and iTunes only holds the file paths to reference them by. You will be safe to upgrade, but do remember, hard drives do fail and it is important to always back up your music via external hard drive, data dvd's or cd's. Hope this helps.
    Cheers,

  • My wife and I each have iPads ipods and iPhones on one Apple account . Should we create a new account? What happens to our iTunes ,apps and iCloud? Can we share them? Will we lose any info?

MY wife and I share and Apple ID . We both have iPads, iPods, and iphones
all our purchases in iTunes , apps and iCloud are on this . If we create a new ID for one of us do we lose any of the data and purchased material or do we still share?

I would suggest that one of you retain the existing AppleID and use it for the iTunes Store, iCloud, and Messages on their iOS device and/or Mac accounts.
Then, the other one of you can create a new AppleID.
You then have two choices for how to share your existing store purchases:
    1) You can try the new "Family Sharing" feature: http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/
    2) Or you can simply continue to use the original AppleID as your "iTunes Store" login on all of your devices (yours and your wife's), yet use a different AppleID to login to iCloud and Messages.
Family Sharing is supposed to be the solution to the problem and does indeed have some interesting shared features.  However, just using the same iTunes Store login has worked reliable for years.
The important this to realize is that in iOS and Mac OS, the logins for the Apple Store, Messages, and iCloud are all completely separate and can be independently configured.  So, you can each use your own AppleID for login to each of those services.  Just make sure to both login to the iTunes Store service using the same original AppleID.

  • Write Erase - will I lose license info?

    Hi,
I have a requirement to move 2 x MDS9513 switches from one site to another and add them into an existing fabric.
The configuration will need to be erased once moved in order to re-configure IP addresses, switch name etc.
The plan is to perform a "write erase"
My question is : Will a "write erase" delete any license information held on the switch?
    Regards
    Rich

    Hello,
Please be sure to have backup Licenses before doing a "write erase" on the MDS switch.
Pease see here from Obtaining and Installing Licenses:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/ps5989/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080664c67.html
Tip We recommend backing up your license files immediately after installing them and just before issuing a write erase command.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Carlos

  • If I uninstall PS Elements 6, will I lose the info in Bridge??

I have been trying for several days to download the free actions from www.thepioneerwoman.com. Each time has been a failed attempt. I have checked the "photo effects" folder and the actions are there. I rename the mediadatabase.db3 to mediadatabaseOLD.db3 and then open PSE but still, nothing. After the numerous sites I've read I'm assuming unistalling the program and installing it again might help me... maybe.  Anyone have any thoughts or guidance?  I'm at my wits end!!!  Thanks!!
    Jennifer

Hi Barbara, thanks for responding!!  I'm 99% sure I'm putting the actions in the right place. I've followed countless video tutorials and from my understanding they are all in the right place.  I'll try completely throwing away the mediadatabase.db3.  Off to try that now.    Wish me luck!

  • If I update to Firefox 4 will I lose all the entries in my Norton Identity Safe as happened on a previous update?

Previously when I upgraded to a new version of Firefox, I had lost all of the entries in the Norton Identity Safe which I use to store all my logins. I had to get help from Norton to get it set up again, so don't want to upgrade to Firefox 4 if this is likely to happen again.

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

  • HT1311 To create a new apple ID, if I sign out of the current Apple ID account, and then sign in with a newly created account, will I lose any songs or apps on my phone or computer that were downloaded from the old apple ID?

To create a new apple ID, if I sign out of the current Apple ID account, and then sign in with a newly created account, will I lose any songs or apps on my Iphone and Macbook Pro computer that were downloaded from the old apple ID?

No, you will not loose anything.  However, if you ever need to update any of that previously purchased content, or re-download it, you will have to use the older AppleID.  Purchases are permanently tied to the AppleID you use when making the purchase.

  • If I do a reset on iphone5 will I lose settings ie contacts?, if I do a reset on iphone5 will I lose settings ie contacts?

If I do a reset on iphone5 will I lose my settings as in contacts etc.

A reset will not affect data. A restore however, can. Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer. This is where they are saved. The backup process for the iPhone does not really save all contact data.
