Will I lose data-playlists if I re-install iTunes? Also backing up user data

Automatic upgrade isn't working for me right now; says it can't find internet, even though it's there.
So I downloaded the newest version of itunes and was going to install it, assuming it would integrate all of my existing library and playlists.....but will it? Or would I lose everything?
Also, I have found a third party software for backing up playlists and library file, but I am surprised that iTunes doesn't have its own way to back up all user data. Best i know is you can back up one playlist at a time from inside iTunes. That seems very clumsy. Is there a better way?

99.9% of the time: no, but there's always a (extremely little) chance that something goes wrong, so make sure you set up Time Machine before upgrading.

You could try copying the iTunes library files, putting them on a external hard drive and the setting iTunes to look there for the library on the new computer.

No, all the iCloud data will remain in the cloud if you reset your phone. After reset and you log back into your iCloud account, all the data will be restored to your phone.

I'm having problems starting up macbook - I get the chimes and if I leave the wheel and apple symbol for long enough I get the instruction to restart in different languages - plus the old style type to the left with something about Darwin Kernel. Don't think this is too regular but seems to happen judging by online feedback.
So i think it is something to do with the startup and have discs - have tried turning on holding down C with disc inserted - but if I go through to run disk utility, will i lose data...I'll admit to not backing up work, as most stuff online but few pictures and settings which will be annoying to an upsetting lesson to learn, if I lose them..
Anyone have any thoughts please?

You shouldn't lose anything, but note that Disk Utility may modify the filesystem, and if this fails, you won't be able to recover your files. It's important to have a backup.
Instead of trying to repair the drive, I recommend you to start up in safe mode by holding the Shift key while your Mac is starting up. There are different reasons for a kernel panic > http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3742

You will not lose anything.. it is stored in the hard disk.. but do not unplug whist the hard drive is active. Shut down the computer before you shut down the TC.. then you can hide it.
When you get back.. turn on the TC.. wait two min. turn on the computer.. should be fine.

You don't have to update to 7.02 if you don't want to, though this update does fix a few glitches in 7.0.
Before updating, you should always back up your data - it's standard practice. I've never lost pictures in an iTunes update.
Perhaps you could elaborate on the comment, "Just installed 7.02 and only got itunes icon and usb cord." What problem are you having, exactly.
Your next question confuses me. "Shouldn't I get free service for their software problem ?." What free service were you looking for? You can always go to your local Apple store for help, or ask questions here for free.

Yes. Restoring to a backup takes the phone back to the date and time of the backup and anything done since that time is lost, with the exception of your update to iOS.

No, keep your library and you'll be fine. Just go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program
Uninstall everything with Apple, then reinstall the latest version. When you open it, you should see your original music files from your library.

Video files will not trenafer to my iPod after re-installing iTunes

iTunes was only updating about 1/3 of the the playlist and would stop. The Apple genious suggested I reinstall iTunes. Now all the video is missing from my iPod. They are still in my playlist but will not update. I set the Video tab to "Automatically update all videos" but when I go back to update, it is reset back to "Do not update video". I tried to set the "Manually manage songs and playlists" under the music tab but it also gets reset when I update.

Your hidden pref file is damaged. Close iTUnes then follow Scott P's steps for deleting this file.
After you delete this file in its 2 locations, when you open itunes you will have a setup wizard just like its your first time ever installing iTunes

I keep getting the same error message from windows, "iTunes has stopped working and the program will be closed". I have just recently installed iTunes on my external hard drive and everything looked great until the program crash! Any suggestions?

Two Apple ID's, will I lose data when I go to iCloud given that I can only use one?

Like a lot of people (it seems), I have two Apple ID's. One which I set up when I first set up my iTunes on my mac (yahoo) and then a mobileme account which I got shortly after getting my iPhone.
My iTunes account on my Mac defaults to my yahoo Apple ID and my iPhone defaults to my mobileme Apple ID. This hasn't caused me a problem to date as the Mac and iPhone sync without any loss of data (by sheer fluke I think!).
I would however now like to use iCloud in order that I can use the invite function on the calendar on my iPhone. If I set up iCloud using my mobileme Apple ID will I then lose all my purchases etc from my yahoo Apple ID?
To be honest, I'm not entirely clear what iCloud does and whether I will lose any information?

Welcome to the Apple community.
The best thing you can do is to continue to use the same IDs with each service, and migrate your MobileMe account to an iCloud account. This way you will be able to continue to use and access all the data as you always have done.
One thing you must not do, is change the ID you use for iTunes, this will cause you to lose access to any content that you have purchased through the previous account.
If you decide to change the ID that you use for iCloud, to match the one you use for iTunes, then you are going to have to manually move all the data from one account to the other.

hi, i want to know if i reinstall Itunes if i will lose my music and playlists. Every time i start itunes a box pops up that says i should reinstall it, because it doesn't have the proper drivers to burn my cds. If i move my music out of itunes folder, will it still get deleted? THANKS!
