Will I lose existing music when downloading itunes 11?

If I download Itunes 11.1 from the apple website, will I lose all my existing music?

Hello Haley,
Thank you for your question.  Updating your iTunes or reinstalling iTunes will not affect the music you have stored in iTunes.  The iTunes application and your iTunes media files are stored in two different locations so that you can reinstall iTunes without losing any media.
The following article has more information about where your iTunes media files are located:
Where are my iTunes files located?

  • Will I lose my music from my Itunes library if I restore factory settings?

Howdy - I was using my Mac at work for my Ipod's Itunes updates and storing music. I wanted to move all my music to my new PC at home so I don't have to use my work computer anymore. I loaded all my music from work and added about 1,000 more songs to my Itunes library at home. When I went to sync my pod, I am now getting the message I have to restore my pod to the factory settings in order to use a the PC format. I checked the support questions online, and I guess I'm not that computer savvy because I still don't understand some of the terminology. If I choose to restore the factory settings to reformat my pod for PCs, does that mean I'll lose everything in my library, or will it just wipe out everything on the pod, and once I plug it in again, it will put all my music from the library back on? It will take forever to burn all my music to discs, and then reload them after restoring the factory settings!

Restoring the iPod won't erase anything from iTunes.

  • Upgrading to new IPOD - will I lose existing music?

Hi, I'm upgrading from 20gb to 80gb ipod. Do I assume I wont lose any of my existing music if I plug in the 80gb?

Ok, so what your saying is you drop it and its not found by your computer, or it just strated out of no where and bestbuy reported that its not coverd by Warr.
I just want to get an idea of whats wrong with it. Or if you know now whats wrong with tell me. What kind of iPod needs repair or do you just your songs recoved. I can try to recover songs or data off of 3rd and 4th gen and maybe 5th.

  • Will I lose my music if iTunes says its corrupt to uninstall then reinstall

Will I lose my music if my iTunes is corrupt and needs to be uninstall and then reinstalled

    Hi Amylu6274,
If you need to remove and reinstall iTunes on your Windows machine, you may find the following article useful:
Apple Support: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.

  • I tunes will no longer open. If I uninstall and re-install itunes will I lose the music in the library

Itunes weill no longer open. If I uninstall and re-install itunes will I lose the music from the itunes library?

    Hello,
All of your content is stored outside of iTunes in the event that the program needs to be removed or reinstalled. Take a look at the article below for instructions on how to properly remove and reinstall iTunes.

These steps may take a significant amount of time to complete, depending on your system.

    Hi texasslagle,
It sounds like you are having issues installing iTunes on your Windows 7 PC, a frustrating situation I am sure.
There is an article that you may want to use to try to complete your install here -

  • If i download the the lastest version of itunes. Will i lose my music that i have already bought

Will i lose my music if i download the latest version of itunes?

    No.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.  You should never update anything without making sure that your backup copy is current, just in case

I had my itunes account on my laptop which has since crashed.   I had to buy a new computer and iinstall the new version of itunes.  It did not pull up any of my information with music library, etc.  Does anyone know how to transfer existing music from my itunes account for my ipod to my iphone?

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Will I lose my music if I uninstall my itunes

My itunes says it's corrupt or not working properly I keep trying to download itunes all over but I'm worried if I uninstall my itunes will I lose the music I have.

No, keep your library and you'll be fine. Just go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program
Uninstall everything with Apple, then reinstall the latest version. When you open it, you should see your original music files from your library.

  • If I uninstall iTunes and reinstall it, will I lose my music files?

    Hi
My Ipod touch (2nd Gen) is not being recognised in itunes. I have gone through the ipod touch assistant, and this has made no difference.
Next try is to uninstall itunes and re-install it. However...will I lose my music library when I do this?
I am also having problems with my external back-up drive which has now stopped me opening it up (I have had it for a year), as it says "I don't have permission to see it's contents" and "files can't be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read-only" - so I am loathe to uninstall itunes if I lose all my music etc....
    Thanks for your help
    Simon

You will not lose any music..
However, you do have a current backup of the iTunes folder and all other important info on your hard drive, correct?

  • When I open I Tunes on my lap top I get a message saying that this version of I tunes is corrupted and I need to re install. If I re install will I lose my music library already created in I tunes?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • TS2776 Had to get a new hard drive, of course lost all my music in itunes. If I sync my ipod to itunes will I lose my music on my ipod??

Had to get a new hard drive, of course lost all my music in itunes.  If I sync my ipod to itunes now will I lose my music on my ipod?

Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the music on your PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
As for you own music, you may have to use a third party software to copy over.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

Your library should be fine, but you ought to backup routinely anyway.
