Will i lose my bootcamp partition on snow leopard if upgrading to maverick

Hello, I have bootcamp with Windows 7 on Snow Leopard.  Will I lose the bootcamp partition if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Maverick?

Hello everybody, I upgrade my macbook air minutes ago. The bootcamp partition is not accessible anymore When i hit the alt key on boot, the win start icon does not show. I disk utilities i see the partition as disk0s4. I think this is, because i resized the partition of mac and windows some time ago. Now it seems, that the maverick update didn't get that. Here is the partition view. Is there someone who might help me to fix this? Maybe with some terminal ****

  • I cannot remove bootcamp partition on Snow Leopard

    Hi everybody.
I have an iMac 20" early 2009 running Snow Leopard. A few months ago I've used the Boot Camp partition to install OS X Lion, just to test it before upgrade the OS. Everything's gone fine, but now I want to remove the Boot Camp partition and seems to be impossible. I've tried all the things I've read from every forum. The first, and simpler one, is to use the Boot Camp Assistance again.... but when I reach the "donwnload-software-or-have-a-CD-or-DVD" window, and select any option, another window appears that says something like: cannot partition the start up disk or restore it in just one partition. The start up disk must be format in one volume Mac OS Plus (journaled).... And that's exactly how my start up disk is. It's formated with Mac OS Plus (journaled) and the partition I want to remove was created via Boot Camp...
Does anyone knows what should I do?
    Thanks so much.
    Gonzalo

Using the  BootCamp Assistant is recommended because usually the correct way to remove your Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
    1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
    2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
    3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
    4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
    5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
    6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
    7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
    After that's done successfully
    8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
    9) Quit Disk Utility
    10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.

  • I had Snow Leopard and upgraded to Mavericks, and did the various up-grades.  Today when I went to open iPhoto, I got a message "iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it".  Now what?

I had Snow Leopard, and up-graded to Mavericks, and did the various up-grades in iPhoto to become compatible with
Maverick.  Today, when I tried to open iPhoto I got this message: "iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do
not have permission to make chages to it".  Now what?  I can't access my iPhoto Library.

First open the iPhoto Library package with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:'
Look for the file named iPhotoLock.data and move it to the Trash in the Dock. Launch iPhoto and see if that helped.
If not Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Unable to re-install Snow Leopard after upgrading to Mavericks

I upgraded to Mavericks before realizing that my USB microphone interface would no longer work with Mavericks due to the manufacturer not updating drivers... So I need to revert back to Snow Leopard. I don't have a time machine backup from snow leopard, so I erased my hard drive and attempted to re-install snow leopard from the installation CD's. But it won't work! It says that I cannot install Snow Leopard on my machine, only restore from a time machine backup.
I suspect mavericks messed with my firmware or something... How can I get the computer back to the way it was when I first bought it? It seems like you should always be able to revert to the OS that shipped with the machine, but this is proving very frustrating!

Is this a Snow Leopard DVD or the disks that came with your computer?

  • Snow leopard server upgrade to Mavericks server?

I have a snow leopard server it is possible to upgrade it to Mavericks server?

This support article has a lot of details.
Refer to :  OS X Server: Upgrade and migration from Lion Server or Snow Leopard Server
Your existing server sounds like it is reliable, configured correctly, has reliable backups and since you only have one service running, worst case would be to recreate the shares  and permissions once on new OS with a purchase  and installation of  Server.app 3.x from the App Store.
    Cheers

You need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but don't need to go past 10.6.8 to run the current version of Flash.

  • I just upgraded my OS X 10.6.4 to Mavericks and now my iPhoto '09 needs an upgrade.  Will I lose all my photos if I do the upgrade?

I upgraded my two Macbook Pro's yesterday to Mavericks, from OS X 10.6.4.  I can't seem to open iPhoto on ONE of them.   I believe it's the same on both computers, iPhoto '09.  So I went in the App store and clicked upgrade my iPhoto. Now it says the library needs to be upgraded to work with this newer version of iPhoto.  Help!  Am I going to lose all my photos?

I believe it's the same on both computers, iPhoto '09.
Check the iPhoto versions. The version number should be shown below in the "General" section of the Info panel, when you select iPhoto in the Finder and use "File > Get Info".  With Mavericks you should be using iPhoto 9.5.1.  You can buy the upgrade from the App Store.
Will I lose all my photos if I do the upgrade?
No, but never do an upgrade without making a backup of your computer, just in case something is wrong.
Your photos are in your iPhoto library. After installing the upgraded version,  the iPhoto Library will be upgraded to a new format, when you open it the first time in iPhoto.
If you want to use your iPhoto Library on both your computers, the iPhoto version should be the same.

  • When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue??

When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue?
I am growing impatient not being able to use cross dissolve or titles.
Its going to be a pain having to back out to OS 10.5. This is beginning to be like Windows Vista.

You don't say what "..Snow Leopard Compatibility issue.." you're having.
My titles and Dissolves - and everything else - work perfectly with iMovie HD 6 and with iMovie '09 in Snow Leopard.
Perhaps you need to revert to QuickTime 7 ..just in case you over-wrote QT 7 with Snow Leopard's own QuickTime X when you upgraded to SL.
QT7 and QT X both sit happily alongside each other in Snow Leopard ..you might want to give that a try.
But I have no problem with any aspect of iMHD6 nor iM09 (..and no trouble with "stills"..) using Snow Leopard on a "late '08" MacBook Pro.
I haven't yet installed SL (Family Pack) on my Mac Mini ..I'll let SL throw away my QT7 on that, and will see if that causes any problems with iMovie. If it does, I'll then download and re-install QT7 and see if that fixes any problems. But don't hold your breath ..I may report back tomorrow, but today I'm pretty busy! I'll do my best, though..

  • I have Mac OS X 10.5.8. How do I upgrade to Snow Leopard to upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8. How do I upgrade to Snow Leopard to upgrade to Mountain Lion?

Your machine is likely too dated to run 10.8 at all , or if it does will run slow.
It won't run your PPC based software or hardware drives for external hardware.
10.6 will run your PPC software and likely is best for that machine performance speaking, Software Update to 10.6.8 and stay there.
You better do your research first.

  • My mac originally snow leopard I upgraded to lion and want to sell it with Lion

My mac originally snow leopard I upgraded to Lion and want to sell it with Lion ,can I do this?

In order to install Mac OS X 10.7 you will need:
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed
At least 4GB of additional disk space to accommodate the download, but more is obviously recommended.

When upgrading my Mac from  OS X Snow Leopard, to OS X Mavericks, The installer displayed my parallel and my PC applications. How can i get them back?

You either have to restore the Snow Leopard backup you made prior to installing Mavericks, or create a separate Snow Leopard partition to boot to in order to run your older PowerPC applications.
Either that, or upgrade the apps which won't run in Mavericks to newer versions that do.

Updated from Leopard to Snow Leopard, then upgraded to Lion, now my system is freezing on startup. Can anyone help?

Try a Safe Boot: Restart holding down the shift key until you (hopefully) see a grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu. Any change?
How much RAM do you have installed?
