Will I lose my photos when upgrading iPhoto after updating to Mavericks?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and can't access iPhoto and need to upgrade. I currently have 9.3 but I did not back up my library. Will I lose my photos when I upgrade?

For this you can simply make a copy on the internal drive if you have space - that is enough for an upgrade - but you must have a large external drive and have a continuing backup system if your photos have any value at all to you  - Time Machine is a good start

when I try to upgrade iPhoto give this error :
"These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications."
"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
"There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (null)"

Log in using the Apple ID that was used to purchase iPhoto (or used to set up the computer if it came on the computer). Other than that contact App store support  the link is on the right od the App store window

  • Can't export Mail photo-Attachement to iPhoto after update 10.8.2

Saving or exporting Photo(s) as email-attachement(s) to iPhoto does not work: Neither "Sichern > Zu iPhoto hinzufügen" nor "Double click on Photo > Selection: Nach iPhoto exportieren". Save the Photo (individual or all) to a folder is ok.
Update iPhoto to actual Version 9.4 did not solve the problem.

I have exactly the same problem , i spoke to apple support and was told to reinstall mountain lion update which i did and still not working, i had the apple support to carry out a remote save of my system to find out the cause of this problem and said they will be back in touch with me in a couple of days ? also i now have no trash sound and my time and date was completely wrong ,all this since the mountain lion and iphoto update not impressed ,hopefully when apple get back in touch with me they will have it sorted.

  • Will I lose my photo library upgrading from iPhoto 7.1.5

Hi, I just upgraded my OS to Lion (I was going to wait until Mountain Lion came out but apparantley my macbook (2008) is too old to support it). Anyway, I want access to the icloud and after upgrading to Lion, I discovered that I needed to upgrade my iphoto as well. Should I be concerned about losing my photos with this upgrade?

    No
Unless something goes wrong which is why you always have a good backup before upgradating or upgrading

  • Will I lose my photos currently in iphoto

I will soon be upgrading to Tiger and realized that I will need to also upgrade to iLife. Since iPhoto is not part of Tiger, how do I recover the pictures currently stored in iPhoto? Will the current library still be accessible once I install iLife?

    Hi termite,
Are you doing an upgrade, Archive and install, or erase and install?
What version of iPhoto are you running now?
Purchasing iLife is always the best option, as it is easy to reinstall if you ever need to.
Backup your entire iPhoto Library folder to an external or to DVD and it will be safe.
Tell me the steps you are going to do for the installs and I'll tell you more from there.

  • Will I lose data (photos) when I do a reset and no iCloud reservecopy was made recently?

My iPad is stuck and only shows the message that no iCloud reservecopy was made for several weeks. Despite having enough storage, wifi and it being connected to the charger, it still hasn't made a copy. Now I'm thinking about a reset (pressing home and standby button simultaneously for ten secs.) but does that mean that I will lose the data (photos videos) that weren't copied to iCould? I know that similar questions have been asked and answered, but none (as fas as I can see) with the specific situation where no iCould copy was made.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Hans

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down (approximately 10 seconds) until you see the Apple logo.
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Will I lose iDVD if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks?

I am getting ready to upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mavericks, and I have a few questions on my MacBookPro.
    1) Is there a way to keep iDVD when I upgrade?
    2) How does Microsoft Office 2008 play with Mavericks, specifically Word and Entourage?
    3)  Is there any reason NOT to upgrade?  I have already done a complete backup using Time Machine.
    Lisa

    Carolyn,
Thank you for the answer.  Um, I am not sure what it said  . . . However, I did do more checking on exactly which model I have.  On the chart, the Model Identifier MacBookPro5,3 was listed, but not 5,4.
This is what hardware I have:
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name: MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,4
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 1
      Total Number Of Cores: 2
      L2 Cache: 3 MB
      Memory: 4 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
      Boot ROM Version: MBP53.00AC.B03
      SMC Version (system): 1.49f2
How do I tell what will and won't work well with Mavericks?  I don't know if 1) I should upgrade, and 2) what should I upgrade to, based on the information you listed in your tips.
Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Why did i lose my photos when i did an update to ios 7.1.1?

This is happening to alot of people.  Apple get it together

No, it is not happening to a lot of people.
Those that are smart enough to backup their important data regularly have no issues at all.
For what silly reason would anyone attempt an update on their device without first ensuring a backup of all the important data on the device existed?
For what silly reason would any intelligent person rely on a device so easily lost/stolen or damaged as sole storage of important data?
Stop being a silly person... take responsibility for ensuring that YOUR data is safe, secure, and backed up.  It is no one's fault but the user if they lose data.

  • Can't import photos from Canon 7D after updating to Mavericks

I can no longer import photos or MOV's shot on my Canon 7D to iPhoto OR open them in Preview or Finder after upgrading to Mavericks. Can still import from my iPhone, and the same card and camera still work great on my iMac that I have yet to upgrade to Mavericks.
Ideas? Anyone else having this issue?
    Rob

    I can sudo reboot /shutdown
I tried several solutions on other threads nothing worked.

  • HT202664 my iphoto is under an old apple ID, how do I upgrade using my current ID? The current Iphoto is not working after the software upgrade. If I delete the iphoto app will i lose my photo library?

I have a MacBook pro I recently upgraded to OSX. iPhoto is now not working as it was purchased under an old apple ID and I cant find a way to use my current ID to upgrade it. Also if I delete iPhoto to then repurchase it, will I lose my photo library?

    1. iPhoto won’t run any differently based on the Apple ID it’s associated with, but can only be updated from that one.
    2. No. Back it up anyway.

  • Will I lose my photos in iPhoto if upgrade to a latest version? I have upgraded my system to Mavericks and now my iPhoto doesn't work. Can anyone help, please?

Will I lose my photos in iPhoto if upgrade to a latest version? I have upgraded my system to Mavericks and now my iPhoto doesn't work. Can anyone help, please?

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • I upgraded to OS X Yosemite and now need to upgrade iPhoto. I have an Airport Time Capsule that I have not employed yet to backup all my (thousands of) photos. I know, I am a fool. That aside, will I lose my photos in the upgrade?

I upgraded to OS X Yosemite and now need to upgrade iPhoto. I have an Airport Time Capsule sitting on my desk that I have not yet employed to backup all my (thousands of) photos. I know, I am a fool. That aside, will I lose my photos in the upgrade? I am desperate to backup my photos and now wonder if I should revert back to my previous operating system. Help!

iPhoto Library is essentially a large datafile in which your photos are stored. iPhoto is an application you use to do things with the photos stored in the datafile. If you backup iPhoto Library then you have backed up all the photos stored in the library. It's iPhoto that links you to all those photos stored in iPhoto Library. All you need do is to copy iPhoto Library to a backup drive. If you are doing regular backups, then you are already making a copy of the iPhoto Library on the backup drive.

  • Downloaded Yosemite, logged out of iPhoto, will I lose my photos upon reinstall?

So I just downloaded and installed Yosemite onto my MacBook Pro. I need to update my iPhoto but apparently I didn't use my usual Apple login to get it? When I try to update and put in my Apple ID, it says "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." Okay, not awful, I'll just delete it and reinstall it on my Apple ID. But I'm afraid I'll lose all of my photos because when I go into the iPhoto folder in my Finder, my old photos aren't there and I get the message "Last login: Mon Oct 20 16:26:51 on ttys (a bunch of numbers):iPhoto Library.photolibrary (my name)". Help? Will I lose my photos if I delete my current iPhoto? What do I do?

Drag the library to a volume formatted as Mac OS Extended on an external drive, delete iPhoto, and reinstall it.
