Will I lose my VPP apps if a student resets their iPad?

I'm going to be setting up some iPads as supervised with apple configurator... and deploy some VPP apps onto the iPads.
I can't seem to find a way to prevent users from resetting all settings on an iPad.. so what happens if a student resets the iPad that has a paid VPP app on it? Is that license gone forever?
The kids are kids...  so you know they are going to reset their iPad at some point. Especially the ones in highschool.

If you reconnect a supervised device which has been reset, Configurator will restore it to the configuration you originally specified, including reinstalling apps, so the code is not lost. You can easily see this behavior by supervising and configuring a device, then doing Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, then reconnecting the device to the Mac which supervised it. Actually, if you leave the device connected the entire time, Configurator will probably restore the configuration as soon as the device reboots after the Erase All Content and Settings. If you want to replicate the student example you outline, just disconnect the device before that step.

  • Both my kids iPads are using my Apple ID if I give them both their own will they loose the existing apps they already have on their iPads?

Both my kids iPads are using my Apple ID if I give them both their own will they loose the existing apps they already have on their iPads?

Apps on a device are forever associated with the Apple ID that was used to purchase or download them. If the Apple ID on a device is changed the apps acquired with the original Apple ID will require that original Apple ID and password to be updated.
My suggestion would be to erase your kids' iPads and set them up new, each with their own Apple ID. Then turn on Family Sharing with you as the Organizer. This will allow any of the Family members to share apps as long a those apps allow Family Sharing. Turn on Family Sharing in the Settings app.

I set up FaceTime and Messages on four different devices with only one Apple ID. I used the exact method that is described in the video that AnaMusic has provided to you in the link in her response above.  That method worked fine for my family, but you can create new Apple ID's just to use for FaceTime and Messages if you like. Many users prefer doing that as opposed to adding new email addresses.
IMO - using unique email addresses (like in the video) makes sense, because we (my family) all have different email addresses anyway, and it was very simple to add each family members email address to both apps and remove my Apple ID email address as the contact address on each device.
BTW .... if you are using your Apple ID on both devices - your phone number should be the number that is showing in the settings - not you daughter's. Did you set up the Apps with your Apple ID?

Best way to move to the new account

No, all content that you download from the store is tied to the account that downloaded it, it can't be transferred to another account

  • When switching my iphone to a new apple ID will i lose my songs, apps, and imessages?

i currently share an itunes account with several people and devices. i would like to make my own apple ID. When switching my iphone to the new apple ID will i lose my songs, apps, and/or imessage conversations?

You need a valid/working email address in order to create an account.
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old

Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
Note that if yo chaghe acounts in Settings>iTunes and App Store media will NOT be deleted from the ipod but:
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • Will i lose my current app settings if i upgrade my ios?

Will I lose my current app settings if I upgrade my iOS from 3.0.1 to 4.3.3?  Such as, will I lose my contacts, email settings and all my levels in Angry Birds (and other obviously very important items like that)?

    Don't know why you would.
You should be syncing all of this with your computer regularly, so everything (contacts/calendars/etc) should be on your computer anyway.  When you sync your iphone itunes performs a backup which would contain the app data and settings.

  • My laptop has broken. How do I now access iTunes and will I lose all my apps?

My laptop is broken. How do I now access iTunes ? Will I lose all my apps and music? Any help needed , thanks in advance.

If your hard drive is busted, then yes. If your hard drive still works, then no. Unless every single media item in your collection is on your iPhone. But even then there is no official way to get into the system files. IIRC you can transfer the content on your iPhone to another computer (say if you got a new computer) when plugged in for the first time. Not too sure of this though.

  • If I update my Iphone 3GS to the newer software version IOS 6.1.3, will I lose my contacts, apps and photos?

I am wanting to update my Iphone 3GS to the newer version IOS 6.1.3, but is afraid I might lose all of my photos including my wedding photos, apps and all of my contacts? How can I make sure I will not lose my photos, apps, contacts and all of my passwords. Is there a easier way in order not to lose anything? HELP!!!!

Although included with the iPhone's backup, all photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
Although contacts are also included with the iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer, and/or there are a number of free email accounts that support syncing contacts and other data over the air.
All iTunes content - all music, movies, tv shows, tones, audio and print books, and 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer.
Settings, passwords, etc. are also included with the iPhone's backup, but so is a significant amount of other data. There is always the change some of the data included with the backup is corrupt or cannot be restored from the backup.

  • HT4972 I want to upgrade iOS, from 4.3.3. Will I lose all my apps?

In order to upgrade the version I understand that I need to sync my iPad then update via iTunes. Will I lose all my apps or are these saved? What about apps I've bought?
    Thanks!

If you have never synced the iPad to the computer that are intending to do the update by then this page may be of use : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
In terms of the actual update, connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) - that should copy all of your apps (purchases or free) and other iTunes purchases over (music, films etc). You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes (on iTunes 11 you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
An iPad 1 will update to iOS 5.1.1, and an iPad 2 and 3 to iOS 6.0.1 - they are the only versions that are 'signed' by Apple for them.

  • If I upgrade to ios 5.1.1 on my iPhone, will I lose all my apps or have to redownload them?, If I upgrade to ios 5.1.1 on my iPhone, will I lose all my apps or have to redownload them?

If I upgrade to ios 5.1.1 on my iPhone, will I lose all my apps or have to redownload them?
Or how can I prevent this?

Now everything should remain the same as it was prior to the update.
But a good practice is to always do a backup prior to any update - "Just in case"

  • Will I lose anything if I do a hard reset on my iPad?

Will I lose anything if I do a hard reset on my iPad?

That reset will remove all content from the iPad, so unless you have a computer that you can restore your content from then I'd avoid doing it. For Safari you could see if the following help instead :
Try clearing its cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot

Will I lose data saved in icloud if i reset my phone?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
No, all the iCloud data will remain in the cloud if you reset your phone. After reset and you log back into your iCloud account, all the data will be restored to your phone.
