Will I lose subscribers if I move podcast from Mobileme to Go Daddy?

We have built up our podcast subscribers over the past few years to the point that we are having bandwidth issues housing it on our mobileme account (even with the extra 400GB).
We are now forced to move the podcast to a third party host, but I am concerned we may lose our subscribers in the process.
I set up a personal domain on Mobileme for our podcast sometime ago, ie. it now points to www.rushhourradio.net, even though it is hosted on Mobileme.
Our current RSS feed includes our domain URL:
<itunes:new-feed-url>http://www.rushhourradio.net/christopherlawrence_rushhour/Podcast/rss.xml</itunes:new-feed-url>
Since the RSS feed already points to our domain, does this mean that I can publish the site to Godaddy for hosting without losing any subscribers?
Please help, I'm very nervous about making any changes and losing our subscribers. Thanks!

The iTunes Store is using the feed at
http://www.rushhourradio.net/christopherlawrence_rushhour/Podcast/rss.xml
I assume that this is the new feed to which you wanted to move the podcast? If so then the move has taken effect.
This feed contains an 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag but it redirects to itself and so is redundant. If in fact this feed is the old feed then you need to amend the tag to contain the URL for the new feed.
According to Apple's Tech Note:
'The tag will cause the iTunes Store to be updated with the new feed URL, as well as all iTunes client versions that support podcasting.'
So once the redirect has taken place and subscribers have had time to get their own copy of iTunes updates (which may not happen until they download a new episode, so you should post at least one new episode to both feeds before removing the old feed) then everyone should be using the new feed.
They also suggest you should set the server to do a 301 redirect for requests to the old feed. If the old feed is on your iDisk this is unlikely to be possible.

  • Move Podcast from MobileMe to GoDaddy

I know similar questions like this have already been asked.  I've read the various discussion and answers.  I think I know what I need to do, but I want to confirm it here on the boards.  A mistake could very well cost me listeners.
I have moved my site (created with iWeb) from MobileMe to GoDaddy.  Both sites are still live.  Now, I want to change the RSS code on my MM site to point subscriptions to the GD site.  Here is what I understand (thanks to reading Roger Wilmut's info at http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move):
    1.  In the RSS code (MM site), I need to add the following line of code: <itunes:new-feed-url>NEW URL FOR YOUR FEED</itunes:new-feed-url>
    2.  This code needs to be added between the "channel" tag the first "item" tag.  My first question is: should it be right below the channel and BEFORE the <title> info?
    3.  Now, here is the big question: what exactly should I put in for the NEW URL?  My MM and GD site / podcast information is below.
    MOBILEME SITE: http://web.me.com/markandjill/SW_Miniverse/Welcome.html
    MOBILEME PODCAST: http://web.me.com/markandjill/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniver se.html
    GODADDY SITE: http://www.swminiverse.com
    GODADDY POSCAST: http://www.swminiverse.com/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse. html
Any help is greatly appreciated!!  I think I know what to enter for the NEW URL, but I want to make sure I don't make a mistake.  Thank you!

I'm glad you checked, because it looks as if you were about to paint yourself into a corner. You've quoted the web pages for the two versions of the podcast: what matters are the feeds.
The original, MobileMe, feed is at
    http://web.me.com/markandjill/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/rss.xml
    The Godaddy feed is at
    http://www.swminiverse.com/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/rss.xml
Since iWeb doesn' provide for adding the tag, you are going to do it manually. Please follow these instructions very carefully.
Mount your iDisk on the Desktop (command-shift-i). Open the Web folder, then within that the Sites, folder, then the markandjill folder, then the SW_Miniverse folder, then the Star_Wars_Miniverse folder and locate the rss.xml file. Drag this to the Desktop to download it.
Now open this file in Text edit in PLAIN TEXT mode (not Rich Text which is often the default). Three lines down you will see the <channel> tag. Make a new line beneath this, reading:
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://www.swminiverse.com/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/rss.xml</itunes:new-feed-url>
All one line, no returns within it, and I should copy this line to make sure you get it absolutely right.
Save the file as rss.xml - TextEdit will offer to add .txt on the end - don't allow this.
Drag the file to the Star_Wars_Miniverse folder on the iDisk, replacing the existing one. Leave it severely alone for at least two weeks. Do not publish anything from iWeb to the iDisk or you will over-write it.
You can check that it's worked; go to your iTunes Store page at
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/star-wars-miniverse/id326698031
Click the Subscribe button below the image. Go to the Podcasts section: control-click on the line with the podcast name (not an episode) and choose 'Copy Podcast URL'. Paste this into TextEdit - you should see the GoDaddy URL. It will take the Store page a few days to catch up. Subscribers will be automatically redirected to the new feed.

can I move podcast from my account to other's?
i.e. may it have 2 owners?

You're talking about an episode you've downloaded in someone else's podcast, and moving it to another user account on your Mac? You could simply subscribe to the podcast in the other account and download it again, but if you want to save the download time just drag the episode(s) to the Desktop, then place them in the Users/shared folder, then open the other user account and drag them from there to iTunes.
If this isn't what you are trying to do please specify exactly what it is.

  • The PC that my ipod was connected crashed and i wanted to switch it to my laptop now..the question is will i lose all my pictures and notes from my ipod if i switch PC's or is there a way to make it stay since i have icloud backup on my ipod.

hi...the pc that my ipod was connected crashed and i wanted to switch it to my laptop now..the question is will i lose all my pictures and songs from my ipod if i switch PC's or is there a way to make it stay since u have icloud backup on my ipod. i really dont want to lose my pictures so plz let me know if there is a way...thank you

The iCloud backup does not include non-Tunes purchased music and photos that were synced to the iPod. The iCloud backup does not also included a few other things included in the iPod backup that iTunes makes.
The iPod backup that iTunes makes does also not included non-iTunes purchases and photos synced to the iPod.
free programs like iFunBox with copy non-iTunes purchased music and some other things from iPod to computer.  A paid program like TouchCopy is needed to copy photos synced to the iPod to a computer.

Hey - if I restore my iPhone will I lose the music I've purchased from it?

A restore will erase your iTunes media but you can re download iTunes purchases without being charged again.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
"With iTunes 10.3 and iOS 4.3.3 or later, you can download your previous purchases directly to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or computer.1"

I have an IPad 2.  I want to update it to an IOS 5.  Will I lose my apps that I purchased from the ITune store?

What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings  - so make sure you backup first. If something goes awry when you update, with regard to apps, you can download them again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID that you bought them with.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.

  • Will I lose our subscribers if I move our podcast from Mobileme to GoDaddy?

We currently publish a podcast to Mobileme. Our podcast has a large number of subscribers that we have built up over the past few years.
Problem is that our podcast is constantly being disabled on Mobileme because we are exceeding bandwidth limits and we need to move to a new hosting company (ie. Godaddy).
If we move to a third party hosting company, will this cause us to lose our current subscribers?
    Can someone please advise?

Thank you for this information. I have read it and still have some questions, as I know virtually nothing about how RSS works.
The instructions say that I should "use the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag described in the iTunes RSS Tags section below. The tag will cause the iTunes Store to be updated with the new feed URL, as well as all iTunes client versions that support podcasting".
    My questions are:
    1. Where can I find my RSS feed? I went into my iDisk > Web > Podcast, where I found a file called "rss.xml". Is this my RSS file? Or should I be looking somewhere else? I use iWeb and don't know where to find it.
    2. To be clear, I am only inserting these words: "<itunes:new-feed-url>" into the RSS feed. Nothing more. I don't need to give the name of new hosting company or anything like that? That being so, how does iTunes find where the media files are located?
    3. How do I upload the new RSS feed? Do I "Publish Site Changes" in iWeb, or does iTunes find the RSS feed all on it's own?
Sorry to sound like sound so ignorant, I just find this very complicated and I don't want to lose our subscribers.

    Hey there,
The first thing you want to check is to make sure that the game is compatible with your iPod model, which you can check by going to the purchase page of the game you bought.
If everything is good. Try this:
    1. In iTunes, select iPod in the source list and click the Games tab.
    2. Select "Sync games."
    3. Click "All games" or "Selected games." If you click "Selected games," also select the games you want to sync.
    4. Click Apply.
If still no luck, check out this troubleshooting page for games. Hope this helps.

  • Will I lose my apps if I switched from PC to MAC?

I have an iPad 2 & it's configured to a PC. If I sync it to a Mac, will I lose my apps?

If you are moving to a Mac as your new computer and that will be the only iTunes library that you sync to from now on - you can transfer the purchases from the iPad to the new Mac.
Do not connect the iPad to the Mac just yet. Authorize the Mac for iTunes content as the very first step in this process. Launch iTunes and then go the menu at the top - Store>Authorize this computer.
Then in the menu at the top again - click on iTunes. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
This will transfer all purchased content to the iTunes library on your Mac.

  • I don't have my contacts, calendar, etc. on iCloud, how do I move them from MobileMe to iCloud?

I had a MobileMe account. Now I have iCloud. But my contacts and calendar aren't synced on iCloud, I only have 1 contact, myself. Why isn't the account moving? I went to www.me.com/move , but it takes me to find my iPhone sign in, then I can get to iCloud from there, but i can't see a way to sync or move my old mobileMe account to the new iCloud.

I think I may have it....I signed on to my old mobileme account from my pc, i have a pc, iphone, and a mac....then i see the option to move it to icloud, I hope this works lol...thanks

  • Will can replace Front Row and play podcast from itunes?

One thing I did with Front Row pre-Lion that I can't do with Lion is watch video podcasts on my MacMini connected to my SDTV (no HDMI). Plex doesn't seem to have any connection to iTunes. Is there any Front Row replacement that will let me watch my video podcasts?

new2appletv, I think you missed roestuff's point. They were wanting to BUY a HD movie -- not copy it.
It's frustrating that we can live in a complete HD environment with a Mac Mini, UNTIL we start downloading from iTunes. The alternative to downloading from iTunes, is to buy the DVD or Blu-Ray, both of which are no less "copyable", than the output from the Mac Mini. As all movie/music pirates have shown over the years -- where there's a will, there's a way.
I share the frustration. I have an XServe, a Mac Pro & 3 Mini's running a home theater & TV network around my house. I can happily watch, AND RECORD, HD content from TV stations. I'm not into pirating -- it is all for my own use. Because of alleged "abuse" by some users, I can only expand to 1 further Mac on my network due to the 5 machine limit imposed by iTunes. My frustration is that the content doesn't even leave my house (except for when it is on my iPhone).
Apple need to learn to negotiate better, particularly if they want to be at the centre of a digital world. I can buy a Tivo for the same price as a Mac Mini, and a Tivo doesn't have all of the restrictions placed on it that the Macs do. I feel sometimes that Apple try to prove that they are the Volvo drivers of an online world -- but uncertain what they are trying to achieve.

  • How to move podcasts from iTunes to iPod...nano 2nd gen with iTunes 8.2.1,

...that don't have the little blue dot indicating that they've not been listened to? These podcasts aren't sync'ed to iPod bec iPod thinks that they have been listed to and they haven't. How to 'restore' these podcasts to their original 'unheard' status? The solution appears to manually manage podcasts, but I couldn't follow directions which I think were intended for iTunes 9 --such as find the Source and go from there (no "Source" on my iTunes).

You can also change your settings from iTunes under the 'podcasts' tab of your ipod. If you set it to sync all episodes instead of all unplayed episodes it should work just fine.
If you wanted to pick which podcasts sync but don't want to manually manage, you could also create a smart playlist that chooses all 'checked' podcasts and sync that playlist instead. Then only the podcasts you check will be synced, regardless of whether or not they've been played.
