Will I lose texts when I restore my phone?
I have backed up my iPhone into my iTunes. If I now go to restore my phone and then restore my settings afterwards, will I still have all of my old texts?
Yes

The intent of having them on the cloud is for backup. If you want to feel safer and just for more expediency, I'd recommend you connect the phone to the computer whose iTunes you have associated the phone with and do a manual backup onto local storage.
That way, you can have the double assurance of having backups and when doing the restore thru iTunes, the info will get placed back on the phone the quickest. -
i jailbreak my phone but i did buy some app ... what will happen to app when i restore my phone..
It will probably turn into an unusable brick, but that is the risk that you run if you jailbreak your phone rather than having it officially unlocked.
Talk about jailbreaking is prohibited in these forums and is not supported by Apple. -
Will I lose photos when I upgrade to maverick
Will I lose photos when I upgrade iPhoto to maverick
No. But backup everything first.
Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
drive being backed up.
3. Time Machine requires a backup drive that is at least double the
capacity of the drive(s) it backs up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Get Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. Synk Pro
6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore. Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined. It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.) You can purchase hard drives separately. This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice. Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu. You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available. You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports. I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.) You can find enclosures at places such as;
1. Cool Drives
2. OWC
3. WiebeTech
4. Firewire Direct
5. California Drives
6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover. Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver. -
IPhone 6 when held in landscape will not open text messages in landscape. Phone needs to be held upright and then back to landscape. The phone sits in landscape mode on a dock.

When I restore my phone from a backup, isn't it suppose to give me back all my apps as well?
No it is not, a back up holds App Data but not the app itself
Apps are transfereed to iTunes by a method called "Transfer purchases" aswel as all purchases from the itunes or app store on the device.
If the apps are on iTunes you need to sync them back to the iPhone.
If the apps are not on iTunes on your pc/mac make sure you are signed into the correct Apple ID then go to App Store>Updates>Purchases here it will show you a list of the apps you have downloaded/purchased with that Apple ID. To download them simply click the cloud button with the arrow in the middle to the right of the app. -
my 3gs stays on the screen with the usb and itunes picture on it. when i restore the phone on itunes it give me (-1) code. what shoud i do?
You could try restoring and staying away from that backup. I've had that happen to me before on my iPhone 4 from a corrupt backup. You could be coincidently mixing the two issues, sounds to me like you got lucky and your phone is A-OK but you may be using a corrupt backup.

Brand Thunder software isn't viewed very favorably around here, due to it including "extras" such as you are seeing.

I got a new iphone 6. When I restore my phone from my icloud backup my most recent photos and messages not restored from icloud backup. How do I get the most recent backup onto my new phone?
Hello, Anita.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are wanting to restore your new iPhone 6 from an iPhone 5 backup. This sounds like the iOS version of your old iPhone 5 may be newer than what was installed on your iPhone 6. Try going through the steps in the article below.
iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device
I would also check to see the backup dates in iTunes and if the backup is located on iCloud instead of iTunes.
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes

Hi, i had backed up my data and then when i restored my phone with the restore backup option, all the photos, music where there but no apps. Al my apps are disappeared. Can you please tell me where are my apps backed up?
Apps (like other synced media like music) are not included in the backup that iTunes makes. Thus, restoring from backup if the apps are not in the iTunes library there are no apps to restore to the iPod.
Redownload the apps into your iTunes library.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
And then restore from backup.
Make sure that in iTunes>Preferences>Devices the box that say "Prevent iPods..." is checked otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer the previous backup (with your app data) might be overwritten. -
We've purchased applications off of iTunes.
Will we lose these applications when we update to 5.0 software?you shouldn't. Be sure to backupp your iPad before you do the upgrade.
what should happen is that you hook up the iPad, download the iOS5, it installs it, which wipes the iPad, then iTunes automatically restores your apps and settings from backup.
Worst case scenario, as long as iTunes doesn't glitch, it knows what you've downloaded and you can redownload at no cost.
When I did the iOS upgrade, I did it on a new iPad (mine had an issue and I had just exchanged it for a new one) I made my new iPad a restore of my old one, did the upgrade, and my n ew one was an exace replica of my old one, minus a week (it'd been a week since my last backup) -
Will i lose stuff when i upgrade to 4.5?
I have a few hundred songs, about 20 pics, and a few apps i've bought and paid for, will i lose this stuff when i upgrade??????
Solved!
Go to Solution. If you hit the Advanced button in the Application Loader and choose the option to backup the device data, all of the data will be backed up, and when it finishes updating the OS, the data will be restored for you.

Will I lose files when I perform Lion Recovery?
Will I lose any files when I perform Lion Recovery? I have been having some problems with my 2011 MacBook Pro 13-inch lately and am considering using Lion Recovery to solve them.. Will I lose any of my files when installing a fresh copy of Lion with Lion Recovery??
HELP ME PLEASEEEE!!!!
ThanksYou need to get some way of backing up your files if you care about them. Otherwise you're at risk of data loss, particularly since youre having problems now which could escalate at any time. Running any computer, regardless of operating system, without making backup of important files is taking a rather foolish risk. There are all sorts of ways to make backups; there are even free online storage services such as Dropbox which offer a couple of gigabytes of free space in their servers to which you can back up, if you have no other method.

HT201250 will i lose everything when I upgrade my mac
Hi - I have the disc to upgrade my mac to Snow Leopard. I don't have an external hard drive to back up. If I install the disc will I lose all my documents/photos/music etc?
If everything works perfectly, you should not lose your data.
I don't know about you but I never trust my data "to everything running perfectly". So I in fact back it up twice just to be sure.
IMHO I would hold off the upgrade until you have a disk for backup.
The questions is never will I lose data because that is a certainly. The question is when will it happen. Hence the reason to backup.
