Will I need an electrical converter to use my macbook pro in Japan?

I need to know if I need to purchase a special converter to use to charge my new laptop while traveling in Japan.

i lived in japan for years and i go to visit all the time. where i have been the plug itself is the same size, only the frequency was different 50hz v. our 60 hz. not sure how that affects the computer, i know it affects an american clock. i used my stereo equipment fine. never used an american computer over there.

No voltage converter required, just the appropriate plug adapter.

  • Will I need a converter/adapter for my Macbook Pro in Japan?

I'm currently set to study abroad in Japan, and I have a few questions about what converters/adapters I'll need. Regrettably, I need to admit I'm not very tech-savvy, making this issue a bit more complicated for me.
Electricity in Japan runs at 100 volts and 50 hertz, and most (if not all) outlets only accept 2-prong plugs, according to the predeparture information I was provided with.
I should note that I lost the "plug" attachment of my Macbook's charger, meaning I have to rely exclusively on the 3-prong extension cord to plug my Macbook in. Needless to say, I should definitely get an adatper to be able to plug the 3-prong charger into Japan's 2-prong outlets.
When it comes to voltage and frequency, though, I'm essentially clueless. What converters and/or adaptors will I need to use my Macbook Pro in Japan? Are there any converters/adapters available that can address both my 3-prong plug and volts/hertz issues in a single product, or will I have to buy a separate product for each of these needs?
    Thanks in advance.

You can purchase a wall outlet plug adaptor by purchasing any international travel kit such as Apple's or from AAA. No other device is needed. The power unit for your computer is auto-detecting/switching.

  • Middle age woman need in-person lessons on using her MacBook Pro!

How would I find an actual human being who could give me lessons on how to use my MacBook Pro? I am old-school. I want to learn from a person not an online tutorial. Any suggestions?

Thank you to Ginger and everyone else. I signed up for a workshop three towns away from me because the two Apple stores in my town didn't have any workshops. How convenient! I might just show up at my local Apple Store and ask them to please have a workshop so I don't have to drive 20 miles away.
I just really love Apple's customer service, JK.
When ones purchases an automobile, is it the dealers/manufacturers obligation to teach one to drive it?
    Ciao.

You will not need a converter, just an adaptor to make the plug fit the socket

  • HT4241 What video settings will I need to change on my mid-2009 Macbook Pro?

I am trying to send Audio/Video to my mother's T.V. using a third party combo cable(item # 6331), from monoprice.com. We have a 'Mid-2009 Macbook Pro. I can get the Audio with no problems. I tried all of the different resolutions on the Macbook and the closese Video image I can fet is a vertical sliver in the upper left hand corner of the T.V.(52'' Sony Bravia Model # unknown, mounted on wall) Please help. Mothers Day is coming up an All My Childeren is coming back, but will be on Hulu. Thank You

The tech specs list the upgrades that were available from Apple when that model was being sold new. They don't necessarily reflect the aftermarket-upgradabaility. I don't believe there'd be any reason you couldn't put a hard drive/SSD of whatever capacity you want in that MBP (of course it needs to be the right physical size).
That being said, it's good practice to make sure you have a window to return it just in case.
    Yeah what Bob said.

  • Will I need to put more memory on my MacBook Pro for Mavericks?

I got my MacBook Pro in Februrary 2013 (so I think it's a mid 2012 model? Not sure). The memory for it is 4gb and 1600mhz. It came with OS 10.8, but I am now upgrading to Mavericks. My question... will I need to get more memory to fit Mavericks onto my computer? Or will what I have suffice? I don't have much stuff on my computer; I backed everything up before beginning the process (should be done in a few hours, and I can always pause it if necessary). The backup flashdrive holds 8gb and I'd say, in total, I have about 4.5gb worth of stuff (word documents, pictures, and videos) on my computer. How will that affect what Mavericks takes up (Mavericks says it needs 5.32gb of space)?

With all due respect, I find it hard to believe you ever worked at Apple.
You can't spell. And you believe that Mavericks only needs 1 GB to install.  Totally incorrect.
I can easily upgrade my computer with more memory, too, after all is said and done.
    Do that, you'll love it.

  • Need to know Audio device used in MacBook Pro (mid 2009)

I have installed windows xp (SP3) on my macbook pro. Whose Mac OS and Original DVD is lost. Now after installing XP, I am unable to install driver for my macbook *audio device driver* and I didn't know the device vendor name, which hardware is used. So I may be able to install sound drivers on my mac. Please help, thanks in advance ...

I'm also experiencing this problem, but somewhat more extreme. With my MacBook Pro (bought in August 2009, 13" version) I suddenly can't left-click anymore. I can scroll and right-click, but left-clicking and dragging is impossible. I can only use left-click when I set 'Tap to click' in my Trackpad preference pane.
I can't recall exactly when this started, but I think it's been little over a week for me. It seems that my problem occurred after I installed the Bootcamp drivers for my Windows 7 partition, but this could be coincidence because I don't think the installation should have an effect on OS X.
It doesn't seem there's something stuck under my Trackpad and also the sound when pressing the trackpad hasn't changed noticeably.
(English is not my native language, so please excuse me for any mistakes in my post)

  • Do I need a power converter to use my USA purchased MacBook Pro 3,1 in Italy?

Do I need a power converter to use my MacBook Pro 3,1 in Italy?  I've had it for a few years, purchased and used in USA.

The block auto-switches to Europe power.  You just need an adapter for the final plug-end appropriate for Italy.

If I take my MacBook Air to Italy from the US, will I need a voltage converter?

No. All you will need is a Plug Adaptor for the mains power outlets...
    Line voltage: 100-240V AC
    Frequency: 50Hz to 60Hz

  • Using my macbook pro whole day with the power adapter , will it affect my battery? Please help

Using my macbook pro whole day with the power adapter , will it affect my battery? Please help

It doesn't affect the battery. You can use your MacBook Pro plugged in all the time without damaging the battery. You only have to be sure that you unplug it and run a battery cycle (drain the battery without letting the Mac turn off and charge it fully) at least once a month to keep the battery life.
