Will I need to reinstall applications if I upgrade to Lion?

If upgrading from 10.6.8 to Lion, will I have to reinstall existing applications (such as MS Office, etc.)?

Thank you.  I continue to have Windows-habits to break!

  • Will i need to reinstall my programs after upgrading to the mavericks?

I would like to install the new OS mavericks, im coming from snow lep 10.6.8.
if i install the new OS, will i need to reinstall all of my programs, logic pro, photo shop, steam ect?

No. But if you happen to have any old PPC-only applications they will need to be upgraded because they will not work in Mavericks. You should also upgrade your other software to current versions if you have not already done so.

  • Do I need to reinstall iLife for os upgrade

I'm thinking about moving my Mini Mac to Lion or Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard so I can use iCloud
Will I need to reinstall iLife following the upgrade.

    The short answer is.. No.
However, keep near by those SYSTEM and APPLICATIONS DVDs that came with your computer, just in case anything goes wrong.
... FYI... make sure to check SOFTWARE UPDATE after the install, for any updates to your iLife applications that will make them more compatible with Lion.

  • I want to upgrade to Mavericks. Will I need to reinstall all of my apps and copy my files back to the hard drive?  I have not installed an OS on a Mac before and I'm wondering whether it is as involved as on a PC.

Short answer: You do NOT have to reinstall all your apps and copy your files back.
Longer answer: Upgrading the OS does not touch any user files. Upgrading the OS should not interfere with any applications which are compatible with Mavericks.  In my experience non-Apple apps are generally left unchanged by the upgrade.  It is possible that some apps may need to be upgraded. One good resource for checking application compatibility is RoaringApps.
Finally, it is always wise to backup everything, just in case.

  • I'm reinstalling Windows 7. What information will I need to reinstall CS5?

    Hello,
I'm planning to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows 7. What will I need to reinstall CS5? Do I just need my serial number? How can I find that? Do I need to contact customer support if I can't find it?
    Thanks

You should deactivate your CS5 suite before wiping anything so that you have your activation available.  This is usually done by opening one of the applications and choosing Help -> Deactivate.
You will need your serial number.  If you own the disc then it should be located on the disc cover.  If you registered the software then it should be available thru your Adobe account online.  If neither of these work out, then you would have to contact Adobe support directly and provide sufficient evidence that you own the application to see if they will provide you with the serial number.
If you purchased an upgrade version of CS5 you will also need to have the name and serial number for the qualifying older version that you upgraded from.

    Hi,
This should only occur if this is a NEW computer or your first sync and you have information from another computer.
Has this iPhone been synced with another computer before?
    Transferring Purchases; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
If you follow that link your Apps WILL be on your computer and any music you have brought......
Now, do not worry, even if you do accidentally delete your apps, you can download them again for free with your itunes store account, just keep in mind you will lose any saved data!
Follow this and hit continue, the only information that could get lost is any content (music, videos etc) synced from ANOTHER computer that WAS NOT brought from your account.
Hope this helps and makes sense....

No, but do make a complete backup of your system just in case.

  • If I upgrade to Lion from Leopard will I need to reinstall all my programs?

I have a bunch of photo & video editing software as well as some other things such as parallels on installed on my computer. I really don't want to have to reinstall everything all over again. I've tried to search this question, but I'm having one of those "technically challenging" days. For some reason, I can find everything about Lion except this.... I'd really love to upgrade, but if I need to reinstall everything, I don't have time to do right now.
    Thanks so much!

You can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.5 should run under 10.6. See this list for compatibility with 10.6: http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/  You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/
To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least 1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion for $29 from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly As for programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • HT5654 After updating iCloud application on Vista I am unable to access iTunes, I get the following message: (Need to reinstall application, APSDameon.exe, MSVCR80.dll cannot be found)    I need some help rectifying  this issue because I cannot reinstall

    Hello,
I have installed the update that was sent on or around January 24th - 26th 2014, after the failure of the apple iTunes update the iCloud update was installed.  Ever since these 2 updates I am unable to open iTunes and I receive the following message: (need to reinstall iTunes application, APSDameon.exe and MISVCR80.dll cannot be found).  I have tried reinstalling iTunes and cannot do so, I really do not want and cannot afford to restore my pc to a previous date because of new data on my PC.  I am requesting assistance from support so that I can rectify this issue, thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Will I need to reinstall 2007.5 Archlinux over my 0.8 Wombat install

This is proabably a very dumb question.
In order to benefit from all the new features and fixes in 2007.5 Duke, will I need to do a reinstall from an ISO or will running pacman -Syu automaticaly upgrade everything ?
Also, I blindly run pacman -Syu  every couple of days.  Is it safe to do this or do I need to be careful ?  If it does break something is it likely that it will be fixed again in a few days ?

If it does break something is it likely that it will be fixed again in a few days ?
You should pay the main page www.archlinux.org a visit every now and then. They usually inform of big changes in advance.
Take the switch from initrd to mkinitcpio as an exmaple; If you hadn't noticed that, you would be stuck a grub all of a sudden, cause it required _you_ to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
A lot of people flooded the forums with threads that were in fact completely useless, had you checked the main page.

  • Will my Mac keep all of my files and applications after I upgrade to Lion?

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro. I created a Time Machine backup on an external drive incase there are any issues when upgrading to Lion. I'm new to the Mac family and I was wondering if my applications and files will remain on my computer after upgrading to the new operating system. I'm downloading Lion now. I know that in Windows, for instance, you can keep all of your same files but your apps do not carry over. What happens with a Mac OS? I just want to be clear on all of this before I upgrade. Thanks so much for your answers!

If your using Mac's in a mission critical type environment or have third party hardware or software you must rely upon working correctly. It's advised to wait until all the bugs, driver updates, third party software updates and other issues are resolved before upgrading. This might take several months. Then if you do so, do one machine at a time and carefully test everything before full deployment.
    BackupLion Bootable 10.7  Disk
Purchaseand download Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatible Macrunning Snow Leopard.
Right click on “Mac OS X Lion”     installer and choose the option to “Show Package Contents.”
Inside the Contents folder that     appears you will find a SharedSupport folder and inside the     SharedSupport folder you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is     the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to     another folder like the Desktop.
Launch Disk Utility and click the     burn button.
Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to burn,     insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD, and wait for your new Lion Boot     Disc to come out toasty hot.
With this disc you can boot any Lion compatible Mac, and install10.7 just like you installed previous version of Mac OS X. You caneven use Disk Utility's Restore function to image your Lion boot discimage onto a external drive suitable for performing a clean installon a optical-drive-less MacBook Air, or Mac mini server.
