Will I never be able to burn a CD again? error 4280

Another iTunes upgrade, same old result, I still can't burn CDs, in fact very much looks as if installing iTunes 7.0 completely wiped out my PCs ability to even know that it has a CD drive. Thoroughly peed with Apple right now.

could you expand on that a little? for instance, do you mean that the optical drives have disappeared from "My Computer", or something a little different?

Itunes wont burn my CD disc error 4280?

I have a toshiba satellite computer running windows 7 and itunes 11. It wont let me burn my playlist to a disk. Im using memorex CD-R blank cd. I have tried every disc write speed and nothing worked and ran diagnostics everything checks out. Can someone help me?

I tried the same thing on an HP Touchsmart, using Windows 7. I highlight songs in my iTunes music library and create a new playlist. I right-click on the playlist and start the burning process. I am prompted to put a blank disc in the drive, which I do. Then I have two more prompts, which ask me about the format of the content I wish to create. Once that's done, the burning starts.
It seems that for every playlist I burn, I ruin one disc. It seems that either at the beginning or at the end of the burning process that an error occurs and burning is cancelled. This is very frustrating.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is there some reason why I've NEVER been able to burn a CD/DVD?

This is my third Mac. My wife's on her second. Since we got our first one in 2003, we have NEVER managed to burn a CD or DVD. Not once. Not one single time. There's always an error (usually some cryptic error like "error -256" or something).
So we reckon either there's something wrong with Apple's hardware or software, or else we're pretty dumb.
I just tried to copy my install media to a DVD, and I saw this..

OK, I tried. All of the following screenshots are in French, 'cos I'm French, but you'll get the idea..
I set Finder to ask me what to do when a blank CD / DVD is inserted..

Understand that we're talking six years of trying to burn disks, and I have NEVER managed to do so. I do backups to a USB stick, and to an old SD camera card, which I have in a reader.

Elements 10 Suddenly will not open. Should I uninstall/deactivate and re-install or will I never be able to use it again? On windows 7 using parallels on Macbook Pro and never had this problem ever.

I ran trouble shooting and conflicts. It now keeps wanting me to switch to a different windows OS rather than 7 which is what I am running and how it worked previously. The only thing I have done in the last several days that may have freaked it out is downloading flash because my flash kept crashing in google chrome (i did days of trouble shooting before doing this. Thanks to Adobe I've used up about 4 days of non productive trouble shooting and now this!). It simply doesn't open anymore - not even an error message.
Just wanted to confirm that the next step should be deinstall/deactivate and then try to reinstall. But worried Adobe has rigged it so that only works if reinstalling on a different computer. Should I anticipate any problems in un & re install?

That person is misreading the prompt. It merely tells you that if you DO want to uninstall old versions, you should stop the install now and go do that first because the installer won't do it (and you really don't have to--you can uninstall later if you decide you no longer need the old version). It never says you MUST pick a version, although many people misread it to mean that.

I have never been able to update CC apps - U44M1I210 error

I recieve the "Unable to extract the downloaded files. Press Retry to download again. (U44M1I210)" Error code every single time I try to update my CC apps.
This happens on my Desktop PC, and my Laptop PC, with ANY app. I'm using windows 7 on both machines.
I've ignored it for a few months now, but seriously, I should be able to update my apps as I'm paying for the service.
I have tried reinstalling CC twice, no luck.
Please help, this is getting very frustrating!

In the end I fixed the problem simply by pressing 'retry' and redownloading 3-4 times. Eventually it just worked. Very odd.
It's almost like the files were getting corrupted due to my internet but I've never had this problem with any other downloads before.
Odd how it just worked after several attempts with nothing more to it than that

I can't seem to burn any of my music (purchased OR ripped from my own CD collection) in iTunes all of a sudden. It begins the process, then cancels about a minute in and returns an error code of 4280. I have researched it on the web for a month now, with no success.
Some say it's a problem with Sony drives. I don't have a sony drive.
Some say I need to update my iTunes and/or restart my computer. I have done both - no change.
Some say I need to decrease the write speed. I have attempted it at 16X, 8X, and 1X, with no success.
iTunes CD diagnostics suggested unclicking the CD Text option. I did. Still canceled the burn.
I know the drive recognizes the discs, because if I close iTunes and insert a blank disc, I get the pop-up window with options, and it will play audio and video.

Does anyone have a solution? Or anything I can try that I haven't already? I have read over 30 threads now that offer no help, so please, do not repost link to threads as help unless you have read them and have found that they contain suggestions that I have not covered here. And thank you for taking the time to assist me.

Additional information:
-also ran "Repair" with new download of iTunes
-am using the same spindle of CDs that worked perfectly a month ago. Tried another brand also to be safe. None worked.
-ran CD/DVD diagnostics within iTunes with Apple Care - no issues apparent
-also tried write-speed 20X on advice of Apple Care (don't know why they thought 20X would be the magic number after the other 3 I tried didn't work)
-tried running itunes in another user account on the computer - same problem, same error code
-Apple suggested it was a copyright issue. I can't even burn music that I created/recorded myself, so that doesn't make sense.
-They thought maybe Quicktime wasn't installed properly, so we checked a film in Windows Media - it played, meaning Quicktime was fine apparently.
Solution:
Unclicked CD text option & Sound Check, ran burn from the File drop down menu (max speed) on a Philips CD-R and it worked! Had been right clicking the playlist name and selecting Burn option from there. That being said, it did not work on 2 other brands prior, with same settings. Not sure why. Just happy it's working again. Is it a brand issue?

No longer able to burn DVDs

My Powerbook is suddenly refusing to burn DVDs. I have spent the past couple of days testing with a variety of brands including Verbatim, but I get the error message 'Communication to the disc drive failed error code 0x80020022'. I can play DVDs and burn CDs as normal.
Does this mean that there is some sort of hardware error (I have tried cleaning the lasers with a DVD cleaner?) and I will no longer be able to burn DVDs? If this is the case what are my options? Is it possible to replace the Powerbook's superdrive, and if so is this expensive/complicated? Alternatively can anyone recommend an external DVD burner?

I'm not sure about your tech issue...
However I can recommend some good external DVD burners
LaCie is good (expensive)
LG - a friend has one and works very well
NEC - identical to LaCie but cheaper- if you do a search you will see that LaCie uses NEC drives in its products. You need to buy an external enclosure.
I recommend the NEC I've had one for over 2 years and still works flawlessly.
You should also consider (if you go with NEC) to buy an enclosure that has FireWire and USB 2

I have had this problem for over a year and I down to my last nerve. I called Apple, basically got me no where, until I read this problem on another site and I did what it said, and I will be darned if it didn't work!! I am serious, clean your laser lens!!! Apparently it is a reading error because there is probably a smudge or build up on it. I used a eye glass, lint free cloth, but I think they sell ones for computers also.
I really do hope this helps, because I literally just did a happy dance!!!

Only the apps that are part of iOS will remain on the phone.
If you're going to sell it, use "Erase All Content and Settings".
If you're selling it, what difference does it make to you if the apps get erased? You don't have the legal right to transfer any apps you bought to anyone else. Not to mention the fact that you stated you have never been able to download new apps...

When I installed itunes into my old computer (loaded with Windows Vista) it deleated my CD burner and would only allow me to burn via itunes - I had to go in to Best Buy to have them fis the problem but was told not to download new updates for itunes or it would do the same. with this fix I am not able to burn CDs from itunes which is a bummer. Copy them from your old computer, or your backuo copy of your old computer. to your new one.
The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. the exception is itunes purchases.

A 2nd CD burner - able to burn 2 copies of same CD at once, with iTunes?

I'm burning a lot of audio CDs and CD-RWs (music I've bought, and organised myself, for DJing).
The organising and burning process can eat up a day quite easily, so I'm looking for ways to speed up the process.
If I install a second CD burner in my 2009 8-core Mac Pro, will I be able to burn two copies of the same CD in iTunes simultaneously?
I've never had two CD burners in or attached to a Mac i've used, so Im not sure if iTunes will recognise the second burner and allow me to make several copies at once (I make two copies of each CD, so that I can mix between the two).
Burning CD-RWs (which I use for recent songs/tracks, while I get to know them and decide thoroughly where abouts they belong in my CD wallet), can take up to 12mins per CD.
When you're burning up to 20 CD-RWs in a day, you can understand how it can start to chew through time.
Please speak up if you can give me any advice : )
