Will iCloud backed up pictures affect import?

I need to import files from an iPhone and IPod Touch that are backed up to the same iCloud account. I don't know how the backed up files on the iCloud work in that what will happen to the pictures that are already backed up to iCloud? I understand how a straight picture import works, but I don't know if these same pictures backed up to iCloud will affect things at all?

Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are referring to backups, when you delete them from the camera roll they will be removed from the backups.
If you are referring to photo stream, they may remain within the photo stream for a period of time, however they will eventually be erased.

Yes.  The iCloud backup includes your text messages, both SMS and iMessages.

  • Will iCloud back up everything on iphone5?

    Hi all,
This is a general question. My wife just got her iphone5, and she is wondering if icloud will back up everything on it. If she has to replace her phone for any reason, will she be able to restore everything from icloud, specifically:
    a. All the apps she purchased and associated config and user data;
      b. Notes
      c. Safari Favorites
      d. Contacts
      e. Calendars
    f. pictures and video she took
    g. Songs on the phone
    Appreciate any advice. Thanks! /Kenny

It backs up app data, pictures and video
Apps, music aren't backed up because they are redownloaded from the app and music store.
There is some debate about whether it backs up contacts, calendars, notes etc but there is evidence that it does back up contacts, so it may well back up the others too. However the contacts, calendars notes etc are synced (which is different than backing up) with the cloud, if another device logs into the same account and enables syncing this data will populate the new device regardless of whether it's backed up or not.
However all this being said, I'd suggest backing up via iTunes if you are going to change your phone.

  • Will icloud save my pictures if i erase them on my phone?

this may be a silly question, but, i want to free up some space on my iphone. i have been told that icloud will automaticly save my photos even if i erase them on my iphone. is that true?

Not in a way that allows you to access them separately (they are only contained in the overall iCloud backup, and can only be accessed by restoring the entire backup to your device).  To save your photos, import them to your computer, then delete them from your camera roll as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • Will icloud backup external hard drives?

I have two LaCie extenal hard drives, each with a different Aperture and iPhoto Library, In addition, there are hi-res images stored in folders. Will iCloud back this up?

Time Machine's structure is complicated - apparently it uses a large number of symbolic links - if you do a Disk Repair on it it takes forever. Cloning it to another drive works OK, but you may find some problems with an online backup - particularly as very large amounts of data are likely to be involved, which would take a long time even on a normal drive.
The best place to ask about Time Machine would be in the OS X Mountain Lion forum.

  • HT4859 Child locked my iphone and does not remember the code.  Will icloud backup store the pics, etc, or are they lost?

Hi.  Little child locked my iphone and forgot the passcode!
Will iCloud back up pics still?  i guess I have to reset?  Solutions?  she cannot remember the code.
    Thank you!

    Hey met,
You will have to restore the phone to get back in. Restore it from a backup.
iCloud still has your stuff, and I believe that backups continue as before.
Moral: Don't tell your child your passcode!

  • TS3992 If I back up pictures from the camera roll on my iPad to iCloud and then delete the pictures off my iPad will the next back up to iCloud erase those picutres from iCloud?

If I back up pictures from the camera roll on my iPad to iCloud and then delete the pictures off my iPad will the next back up to iCloud erase those picutres from iCloud? or will all pictures remain in iCloud?

They will be erased.  The backup only includes the data (and photos) on the iPad at the time of the backup.  To keep your photos permanently, import them to your computer as explained here before deleting them: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • How do I delete my old iPhone backup since I can not back up my new phone.  Will I lose any pictures?  Can you ever see what is actually on the cloud? Last, how do I delete the old iPhone back up.  Thanks, been trying to do this for a long time.

I want to delete my old iPhone backup since I can not back up my new phone.  Will I lose any pictures?  Can you ever see what is actually on the cloud? Last, how do I delete the old iPhone back up.  Thanks, been trying to do this for a long time.

Deleting the backup only permanently deletes the backup from iCloud.  It doesn't do anything to the data currently in your account or on your devices.  To delete it, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of the device that you want to delete the backup for, then tap Delete Backup.
You can't see anything in an iCloud backup, if that's want you're asking.  You can only restore it to your device.  You can, of course, see your other iCloud data.

  • Why didnt my icloud back up my pictures

I had to restore my phone today & it didnt restore my pictures on icloud..they are very important photo's that i can not get back..please HELP!

you could always try turning the phone off and starting the backup over again. If it's still happening, it's possible that it's related to the network you're in

  • HT4759 --------------Windows 7 Back-up w/ iCloud?------------------  Will iCloud let me back up my Windows 7 laptop?  I want to convert my entire house to Apple products but everything resides on a Windows 7 platform. s// Help in Chula Vista

Will iCloud let me back-up my entire Windows 7 laptop.  Soon I will convert the entire household to Apple products, but I have large amounts of data that I would like to port over to an Apple device but I do not want to lose that data.
Would you describe in detail what my options are before I fully convert my household? For example, is it better to dump everything to an external harddrive, then connect it to the Apple device, or is better to port the data directly over to, let's say a MacBook Pro?  What other options would be useful given my circumstances?

Whew... never buy an iMac or Laptop from Apple without the 3 year extended AppleCare... well 2 years extended... & I think they should be called on this, they should come with a 5 year Warranty, with more available if you want.
I think, "hmm... should it take this long?"
No way, Houston, we haave a problem, not sure what... RAM, Logic Board, etcd.
Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

  • Does backing up my iPhone on iCloud save my pictures?

Does backing up my iPhone on iCloud save my pictures?

It does. Following is a list of what an iCloud backup includes: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2584
Having said that, there is no way I personally would rely on that as the one and only backup of my pictures. I have my phone set to automatically backup via iCloud but I also periodically import all of my Camera Roll to my computer where I can visually verify that the pictures are in fact there (and where I can include them in my normal computer backup). • ICloud mail down in Australia. Any idea when it will be back up?

Have not had iCloud mail come through all day, any idea if its a) down and b) if so, when it will be back up?

I've been down since midday 17 April over here in Perth.
It's incredibly frustrating, as some important and urgent email was apparently sent to the iCloud account, which I've missed.
I can't get a straight answer from anyone about when it will be up again.

  • How do i change my icloud name i already made a new apple id and i want to switch it to my new apple id? I'm afriad if i delete my account i will loose all my pictures..

how do i change my icloud email? I already made a new apple id and i want to switch it to my new apple id? I'm afriad if i delete my account i have now I will loose all my pictures and I want to keep them

To change the iCloud ID on your devices, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the ID you want to use.  Deleting the account only deletes the account and any synced data from your device, not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts, your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.  However if you are changing to a new account, be sure to choose Keep on My iPhone (iPad) when prompted, then choose Merge to upload your data to the new account when you turn on iCloud syncing again.
Prior to deleting the account, if you have an photo stream photos that you want to keep, save them to your camera roll by tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.

  • My iPod is in recovery mode but it hasn't been backed up, will i lose my pictures?

Over the past 2 days i've been deleting pictures on my iPod so i can have enough memory to back it up, i deleted just about 3,000 pictures but still had 3,000 left on it. However i connected it to iTunes and my iPod went into recovery mode and i can't do anything until i've restored it. My iPod hasn't been backed up since April 2012 and i have had alot of important pictures added since then, will i lose my pictures? or is there anyway i can get them saved before i restore the iPod?

    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting photos from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:

  • HT1766 After restoring yesterdays icloud back up one of my Apps has lost all its data.  How can I get the data back as its important to me.

I accidentally added a passcode to my ipad mini after yesterdays IOS7 update.   I then promptly forgot the passcode (I think apple secretly changed it really).
Its taken me 2.5hours to figure out how to reset my ipad after discovering there was no other way of getting into my ipad around the passcode.
Luckily my ipad backs up every evening to icloud so i had a new back up sat waiting for me.
Annoyingly, itunes wouldnt let me restore the factory settings as the "find my phone" thing was switched on.  The only way to turn it off appeared to be via my ipad which I was unable to get into.
I eventually figured out how to restore it without this problem, by pressing the home button as I turned it on and then getting itunes to recognise it as a new ipad and restoring its settings that way.
Following this it was relatively simple to restore my icloud back up.
Everything appears to be here, my calander, my contacts etc.  All my apps have been restored and Im yet to find any app that has missing data except for one (naturally the one that is most important to me).
This one app appears to have been returned to my ipad but it no longer has any data attached to it.  I have lost everything.  Payment info, Client info etc.
Is there any way of recovering the data.  I presume its floating around the ether somewhere given I automatically back up to icloud every night.
    Cheers

There's one other variable, although it shouldn't really come in to play but worth checking anyway.  Is it possible that the backup was made using a higher version of iOS than the one you are running now?  For example, if you were running the iOS 7 beta, then restored to version 6.1.3, the backup would not be listed as you cannot restore to a backup made on a device running a higher version of iOS.  If that's the case, you would have to update to the same or higher version of iOS in order to access your backup.
Also, you can redownload apps and certain other purchased media (in most countries) as discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519.
