I bought a new laptop and used Windows Easy Transfer cable and moved all files from one computer to another. I installed iTunes and found my iTunes music Library.  However, when I plug in my iPod it says it is already synced with another iTunes Library.
I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

Since I migrated my files from one Mac to another and am now running Yosemite, Photoshop Elements 9 (adequate for what I do) is not showing the previous functionality on some of the tools. I have uninstalled/reinstalled twice to no avail.  Is there a fix? Also, when I tried to update, it comes up with this error.

I have a similar problem. I found out that my macbook air created a new USER with my former's computer user name. You can check that by going into System Preferences -> User & Groups, and see if a "Other user" has been created. You have to login under this new USER to find your transferred contacts in the address book.
My problem is that I do not know how to merge the 2 USER logins or transfer the data from the new USER created into the existing one.

how do i transfer my files from one mac to another mac?

I normally use an External Hard Drive or Flash Drive for moving files from both Mac's and PC's, but if you want to move from an old Mac to a new one see > How to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from another Mac

How do you transfer the stickie data file from one mac to another?

I think this is the file -
In (hard drive) > Users > yourhomefolder (the one with the house icon) > Library, look for a loose file named StickiesDatabase
Copying that file to the same location on the new machine (and replacing the file there now) should move the notes. It is probably a good idea that both machines be running the same OS X version.

  • How do I Import my iWeb Files from one Mac to Another

I have iWeb files that are on one Mac and want to import to another Mac.
How do I do this with having one domain file, completely erase the other domain file that has different files?
This is BRUTAL trying to move, copy and import iWeb files between family Macs!!!

You are actually better to split your domain file so that each site can be loaded individually into iWeb and published separately. See....
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
You'll note from this that you can also use a third party application to handle these file and iWebsites used to have a merge function. I don't use it so I don't know if it works with the latest version of iWeb.

  • Moving an imovie file from one mac to another

My mac says it's too big to burn the file onto a disk and I don't have a DVD burner. So I've been trying to move the file to my friends mac. I've tried to export the movie and made it a DVD project and burned it as just a normal data file but when i try to open it onto my friends computer there are missing components. Now I've given up i just want the imovie to be on my friends computer.

    Welcome to the forums.
The iDVD projects don't transfer because they are not self-contained -- they are drawing information from the iMovie projects. If you Shared/Exported from iMovie to Full-Quality Quicktime, and the resulting file was bigger than 4.5ish gigs, then some options (rather than a data DVD) are:
    - connect your two Macs with Firewire or Ethernet and transfer the Quicktime file (I have a small Ethernet network that was very easy to set up).
    - use an external hard drive to transport the Quicktime file.
    - use Quicktime Pro (or similar) to break up the large Quicktime file into pieces that will fit on a DVD (I think Roxio's Toast 8 automatically splits files across multiple media).
The Quicktime file will be smaller (perhaps dramatically smaller) than the iMovie files, and it will be self-contained. Perhaps do a search in the forum and see if there are some other ideas for transferring video files/iMovie projects between computers.

  • Publish Error after copying domain file from one mac to another

    Hello there,
so here is the problem: I have had iweb installed on a MBP, and a website up and running. Now that I just bought an iMac I wanted to transfer all the iWeb over to the iMac and make it the main machine. I was doing all the transfer work manually rather than using the migration assistant or time machine.
I have copied the domain file in the iWeb directory over to the iMac. iWeb starts and displays all the pages and sites normally, but when I try to publish I get the " Publish Error. An unknown error occurred" message.
On the MBP everything was/is working normally.
I have tried to copy the same file again, no change. I have deleted the preference file, no change.
I have tried publishing to a local folder, and get the same error message.
Does anybody have an idea how to get this fixed? I browsed through the discussions here but couldn't find anything regarding this specific issue.
    cheers
    grani

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    3 - reboot.
4 - launch iWeb and try to publish.
    If that doesn't help continue:
5 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
6 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
7 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
8 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
9 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Transfer Time Capsule Files From One Mac to Another

I have a MacBook Pro that is on the blink and I can't afford to fix it right now. Can I transfer some of the files from my Time Capsule to my son's MacBook Pro?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
You have a couple of options.
You could use +Migration Assistant+ to transfer your user account to the other Mac. You can select/omit the top-level folders in your home folder, but not within them. See #19 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum) for details.
You could restore selected items from your backups to the other Mac. Probably your best bet would be to use Migration Assistant to transfer just your account (name and password), but omit the data files, then restore selectively via the +*Browse . . .+* option. See #17 in the FAQ.

  • Can't transfer files from one mac to another

I keep getting error messages saying the file is already there and there is nothing on the drive then after I dismiss the error message a file shows up that has 0kb and doesn't work. I am getting real frustrated with this situation.

I have run disk utility and fixed permissions on both computers. I connect via air port and a Linksys router. I have no problem connecting both computers and their files show up on both with no problem I can even go over to one computer and grab a file while on the other computer but if I try to save it back to the original location (on the other computer) I am told it can't do that. I used to be a permissions issues but now If I try to just drag a drop a file on the other computer (or save it there) I am told that it already exists (there isn't one there), do I want to replace it with the new file. I click replace and then am told that it can't complete this operation because the file is already in that location, it's not but after I clear the error message it shows up as a 0KB file that can not be opened because it is corrupted. I have reinstalled the snow leopard system software on both computers with no improvement.

  • Transferring Specific Playlists From One Mac to Another

I just bought a MacBook Air and would like to transfer certain files/folders/applications from my MacBook to my MacBook Air using Migration Assistant. I know that it is possible to transfer iTunes playlists using Migration Assistant, but I don't know if it is possible to transfer only a few specific playlists. You see, I have an extensive music library with many songs that I don't regularly listen to anymore; I still want to keep the songs, but don't want to transfer them over to my new Air. So: IS it possible to transfer only a few select playlists, or must I transfer the whole library?
[Side Note: I know that I could potentially transfer only a few folders of music instead of my library. However, the folders are sorted by artist, and I want to transfer playlists -- as some of my playlists have songs by many different artists, it would take me a long time to choose all the right folders.)

On the older Mac, create a new folder and name it for the playlist. Go to the iTunes playlist, Select All, and drag into the new folder. This will put a copy of each song into the folder without changing your library in any way. Then, just copy that folder to the new Mac.
Make a playlist with just 3 songs to try it out, so you can see how it works. Once you are happy with the procedure, you can go ahead and move the real ones.

  • Moving mail files from one Mac to another

I have my most complete Mail files on my MacBook, with e-mails going back several years. I want to copy all this data into Mail on my Mac Pro. Both computers are running OS 10.5.7.
Can these files be transferred through MobileMe? It would be a very large transfer.
Can I move the files with a thumb drive? Where is the data located? In the Mail application?
    Thanks in advance!

quit mail on both computers and copy the folder /users/username/library/mail and the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the first computer to the second. then start Mail on the second computer and it will look exactly as it did on the first one.

  • How do I copy e-mail and e-mail settings from one Mac to another?

I am fairly new to Mac and have been using a Mac mini for a few months. I have just purchased an iMac i7 and have used the migration tool to move apps and files over. However it didn't do anything with my e-mail accounts. I have several accounts setup on the Mini that I need moved over. I can't import because e-mail is not setup in the i7. Every time I open Mail on the i7 it wants me to setup an account. Is there anyway to bring the e-mail accounts and data over to the i7 without setting up Mail on the i7 first?

I agree with Antonio, but since we don't know if the Mail app on the Mini is the same version as the one on your new iMac, I'd err on the side of caution and allow Mail on the new iMac to set up; additionally, I'd prefer to start with a new preference file. In order to make it easier, you could take screenshots of all the account windows on the Mini. You can then use those to enter the info when setting up Mail on the new iMac.
After Mail is set up, quit Mail. Go to the location outlined by Antonio (Users-Library-Mail) and compare the folders with the folders from the old Mail app; i.e. the new Inbox folder should be empty -> remove that (drag to trash) and replace it with your old Inbox folder (same with Sent, etc). If you have old folders not found in the new location, add them.
When done, open Mail and your folders and emails should all be there.
