Will iCloud enable new iTunes purchases to be automatically downloaded to multiple iTunes libraries under different logins on the SAME iMac?

So I have a customer with one iMac and a user login on that iMac for each member of the family.  Under each user login, iTunes is configured with the same Apple ID so any purchases are made on the one account.  What they want is that no matter who purchases iTunes content from the iTunes Store, it appears in ALL their iTunes libraries.  If I configure iCloud with the SAME Apple ID under each login, and tick the 3 "Automatically Download New Purchases" boxes in iTunes under each login, then will new purchases be automatically downloaded to every library when the library owner logs in?  Or does iCloud only enable this functionlity based on a hardware ID, ie it will only work once per machine rather than once per user login?
There must be a simple yes/no answer to this, but it's a fair bit of work to set up a test rig so I'm hoping somebody already knows!
Thanks in advance.

Hello campin,
Congrats on your now MacBook Pro and welcome to the Apple family!
So, I'm just going to address each question directly.
1) Short answer: yes. The article "iTunes 11 for Mac: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store" goes over the process of downloading all of your previously purchased content.
2) When you plug in your device you should see that iTune will allow you to configure the syncing options for each type of content. See "iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer" for more info.
3) Automatic downloads is something that you can disable, but is enabled by default. This is also something that be different for Music and Apps. See "iTunes Store: How to enable Automatic Downloads"
It's a lot of information, but that should help you out and enjoy your new MacBook Pro!

  • How do I merge two iTunes libraries under different profiles on the same MacBook Pro?

I used Migration Assistant to import my music library from an old dell to my new MacBook Pro, however 2 profiles were created and now half my music is on one profile and the rest on the other and neither profile can access the music on the other. Please Help

This is indeed an excellent question. I am looking for what seems to be the exact same solution. I have two libraries, where the ratings, checks, and play counts are included in the itunes xml library files. I have found that using synchronization software only compares documents and replaces one with the other. If I modify one computer (in terms of collections, ratings, or play counts), and then don't synchronize before modifying the other computer, then my libraries do not match.
If there were a quick solution to compare and merge libraries, then I would not have to re-synchronize libraries each time I switch computers (assuming I'm not adding/changing mp3 file structure).
I suppose there could be a very long-winded applescript to do this, but I'm not familiar with scripting, nor interested. Any help?
    Have any solutions been found?

  • Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac

Does home sharing allow me to share my iTunes library with other users on the same imac?

Apparently so (as long as each user operates out of a different Mac User account).
After setting up home sharing in the various different user accounts on the Mac, you need to have iTunes open in the account that you want to Home Share from.
Now use fast User Switching to get into the account that you want to Home Share to. Launch iTunes in there. The library in the other account should appear as shared for you.

  • HT1751 Getting 2 logins on the same iMac to use an external iTunes library

The initial state is that we have two users on one iMac, each of which has (I think) it's own iTunes library.  The desired end state is to have one iTunes library on the external drive that both uses can access because all purchases are made using my Apple id regardless of which user we have displayed.  To gain hard drive space, I just transferred my iTunes library to an external Thunderbolt drive, and iTunes for my user login appears to be correctly configured and accessing everything. The library folder created during the transfer process is called "iTunes Media." However, when I tried to point my 15 year olds user id on the same iMac to this same external library, all of the library content in her iTunes disappeared. The iTunes folder is there, but there are no subfolders or content inside it. When I try to change libraries on my daughter's id, iTunes won't let me select the iTunes media folder on the external drive because neither it nor any subordinate folders have the .itl or .xml extensions. I am a novice with Apple products and don't know what happened to the missing iTunes folders associated with my daughter's user id. The ideal situation is if I could find the library and merge the content with the new one on the external drive.  If there is no other way, we may have try to recreate her content and add it again. I need help getting both logins using the same external iTunes media/library folder and, if possible, recovering the missing content. Please put your advice in layman's terms for those who are somewhat technically impaired.  Thanks!!

    See if this helps. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495
Also, you will no longer be able to sync contacts and calendar via USB with Mavericks. You can only do that now with iCloud.

  • ITunes match tracks different volumes from the same album

Using iTunes Match.  Among other reported problems, after downloading Matched tracks to my master iTunes library to replace lower bitrate versions, the new tracks from the same album have different loudness or volumes between the tracks.  Is this because iTunes Match is matching the songs to different versions of the same album?  Where some albums have been 'remastered' or such, that the recorded volume between the albums is different?  But instead of matching tracks to the same version of the album, some are being matched to different versions of the same album?
Quite offputting to listen to a single album where track to track loudness changes suddenly.
PS, I'm not using SoundCheck on my Mac.

Same problem here. I'm an "album" kind of music fan and when I'm listening matched albums that the sound quality and voulme changes I get really put off. Case in point B-52's self-titled album: tracks 1,2, 5 & 7, nice and loud; 3, 4, 6, 8 & 9 tiny sounding in comparison...Hello?  So far iTunes Match is not worth my money. I'd like to hear form an Apple iTunes Match repersentative to know if this issue will be resolved. As it is, is not very useful. Please fix the problem. Also many of my albums show that a track or a few will not be matched but uploaded to the cloud which means more of my albums will be spotty sounding as tracks will have different bit rate, etc. There is no real excuse for not matching whole albums as oppose to single songs. I read somwhere the 'typical" case of the Beatles "Abbay Road" album not matching "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" on most users. I think is silly to say the less. Albums matching not single songs, please!!!

  • Sharing itunes library  between two accounts on the same imac

We just got a 27" imac and my wife and I have our own log on accounts. We share our itunes library. I have moved our itunes library to the shared folder so both of us can see its contents and pointed itunes on both user accounts to that shared folder. But, if she or I purchase an app or music it doesn't go into that shared folder. So I have to copy and paste it into the shared folder. Am I missing something there should be an easier way? I just want us to share the music and iphone apps we purchase.
We are using the same itunes account on the same imac, we just have different user accounts on the imac. Thanks

  • Why can't Apple TV's and iOS devices see home sharing on my Windows 7 computer when iTunes libraries on other computers on the same network and connected to the same Home Sharing can?

I have never previously had any problems with Home Sharing, I have always found it to be completely reliable as advertised. I have 2 computers in the house, (one MacBook and one Windows Desktop) connected to the same Home Sharing account, connected to the same BT Home Hub 4. My situation is that I have nearly 2TB of data of which I would like to share with the home wirelessly, in my mind the desktop is the logical place for this to be shared from.
When running, iTunes on this desktop broadcasts to other iTunes libraries, but no other iOS devices or Apple TV's connected to the same Home Sharing account cannot see it.
I have tried turning Home Sharing off, and then turning it back on, closing iTunes, restarting the computer, going to Network and Sharing Centre and unticking IPv6 in the network adapter properties, even completely wiping the computer and reinstalling Windows 7.
One of the Apple TV's in the house was recently purchased by my parents with the promise from me that everything would work seamlessly... so far it isn't and I am frustrated that the Apple technology that I have come to rely on isn't working as expected.
One thing that has occurred to me upon writing this is that it is a very large amount of data, and I have not attempted to share this with another computer that is currently working and broadcasting it's Home Share fine.
I am sorry if I have ommitted any important details, any further questions don't hesitate to ask. I would be so grateful of any suggestions, my parents are depending on me.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Can iTunes from 2 different computer use the same library?  (from wireless data storage device)

I purchased a wireless data storage device.  My iTunes content will be moved there and I'm planning on moving my wife's iTunes data to the wireless device.  Can both our iTunes share the same library?

One Apple ID can be shared for store purchases. On the iPhone go to Settings>Store and put in the ID. Then all the songs purchased with that ID can be downloaded from the iTunes store on the phone.
I hope that is what you were asking?

  • HT4914 Can I use iTunes match to share my iTunes library across different users on the same computer?

I'm a teacher and I use my MBP in school and, while I've not had any issues with students looking through my computer, I'd like to use a seperate 'school' user just in case.  I need to have access to my iTunes library and I tried moving it to a shared folder but, possibly because of the size of my library, itdoesn't seem to work.  Is there a way I can use iTunes match to enable my 'school' user to access my library in the same way I can with my iPhone?

    Hey darkmavis86,
Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I believe you would benefit from the following article:
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
However, if you do decide to use iTunes Match the answer to your question is "Yes". iTunes Match can be used to "sync" your iTunes library across multiple devices / computers / users.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Sharing iTunes libraries from two accounts on the same physical box

I have two users set up for fast user switching on a single box. both users are active. each has its own copy of iTunes running, each with its own library, each set up to share. the firewall has iTunes sharing enabled.
from a separate copy of iTunes on a different box, I can see both libraries posted for sharing. if I try to open one of them (belonging to the administrator account), sharing works as advertised. if I try to open the other, loading times out, and the share fails with error code 3359.
is the problem that only one copy of iTunes on a physical box can be shared at a time? or is there some other configuration issue I've not taken account of?
    thanks
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   iTunes 6.0.3

    thanks for your response.
if you've submitted a feature request, it may be a lost cause for the moment. what I find, however, is that if both are logged on and active, it's the one that started first that's available.
    regards.

  • Can I share iTunes libraries between two accounts on the same Mac?

    Hello,
I have an iMac on which I began making iTunes purchases. I failed, initially, to set up a separate account for my kids, who are still to young to operate the computer by themselves, but old enough to watch "Arthur" - anyway, now that I have set up a separate account to manage for them, I don't have access to the library in our "big person" account. I've tried putting files in the shared folder and the drop box, but neither of these works.
    Please help!
    Thanks.

Jim, sorry, I should have mentioned that permissions issue.
I have a similar setup on a Mac mini. I have the entire iTunes library in the shared folder and on each user account, I point it to that iTunes library file. That way there isn't a permissions problem when multiple accounts are connected to it.
The only problem with that is that each user account connected to that iTunes library can make changes to the library file (ratings, playlists, etc.)
