Will icloud save my pictures if i erase them on my phone?

this may be a silly question, but, i want to free up some space on my iphone. i have been told that icloud will automaticly save my photos even if i erase them on my iphone. is that true?

Not in a way that allows you to access them separately (they are only contained in the overall iCloud backup, and can only be accessed by restoring the entire backup to your device).  To save your photos, import them to your computer, then delete them from your camera roll as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • I just stored all my pictures in iCloud. Can't I erase them from my phone since they are now in the cloud?

I just put ALL of my pictures in iCloud. Is there a way I can erase them from my phone since they are now in the cloud?

    Mitzi0111886,
While you can't delete the photos from your iPhone without deleting them from iCloud, you can enable Optimize iPhone Storage in Settings -> iCloud -> Photos.
You can turn on Optimize [device] Storage from Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera > iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You need an Internet connection to access an original photo or video that’s stored only in iCloud.

  • Does backing up my iPhone on iCloud save my pictures?

Does backing up my iPhone on iCloud save my pictures?

It does. Following is a list of what an iCloud backup includes: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2584
Having said that, there is no way I personally would rely on that as the one and only backup of my pictures. I have my phone set to automatically backup via iCloud but I also periodically import all of my Camera Roll to my computer where I can visually verify that the pictures are in fact there (and where I can include them in my normal computer backup). Instructions for importing to a computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

  • Will iCloud backed up pictures affect import?

I need to import files from an iPhone and IPod Touch that are backed up to the same iCloud account. I don't know how the backed up files on the iCloud work in that what will happen to the pictures that are already backed up to iCloud? I understand how a straight picture import works, but I don't know if these same pictures backed up to iCloud will affect things at all?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are referring to backups, when you delete them from the camera roll they will be removed from the backups.
If you are referring to photo stream, they may remain within the photo stream for a period of time, however they will eventually be erased.

  • Is there anyway Verizon can save text messages so I can erase them off my phone?

I have over 200 text messages from my ex-boyfriend, I have a restraining order against him so I need to save or be able to get them if he was to do anything against the order. Is there anyway to save them to my Verizon account or something?

What kind of phone do you have? There may be options you can do yourself depending on the device and operating system.

  • I gave my old iPhone 3gs to my friend. It had my contacts on it and when he erased some contacts it erased them on my phone too.

I gave my old iPhone 3GS to a friend after re-setting phone to the factory defaults. But obviously that didn't get rid of all my contacts, and when he erased them, they've been erased from my phone too. I have mine backed up in iTunes, so I can restore them, but how do I stop it happening again? Thanks for any help!

  • Phone will save ringtones/pictures but not show them in the media folder.

As my subject said, my phone will save pictures and ringtones, however will not show them in the media folder, but if I got through the long way, through the "files" icon in applications all of the new ringtones and pictures are there. So any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Hello TyRamos and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Remove your battery followed by your media card.
Reinsert your battery first and allow the device to complete the reboot. Once done, insert your media card. You should get a pop saying media card is inserted.
Go to your Media folder and check for your photos and ringtones.
Let me know how you make out
    Thanks

  • New iPhone / Old Tiger MacBook that can't upgrade to new iTunes - will iCloud save me?

    Hi guys,
Thanks in advance for your advice.  I have a newer iPhone (jailbroken and unlocked if that matters) and an older MacBook 10.4.11 on Tiger.  I tried to link up my new phone with iTunes but got the error that I must have the newer iTunes which is not available for Tiger.  I dutifully tried to upload to Leopard but my computer just stalls at the reboot.   I have made 10g of space on it but it just spins and spins.  It could be my disk drive or maybe more space is needed?   I have two levels of questions
    1.   Will the new iCloud service in the Fall bypass this problem anyway?   I could if needed upload things to my work newer at-work computer if it somehow can upload my iphone content from the old phone and then wait it out until September.
    2.  Thoughts on why the upgrade won't take for my Tiger MacBook?
    Best,
    Summer

You mentioned you had a newer 'at work' computer?
You could sync your old phone to that one and than sync your new phone using the same iTunes account and password.
Your photos, as you probably know, are synced from a photo folder on your computer. If you have this folder shared or on an external drive you could plug that drive into the 'work' computer and sync from that.
An easier method may be for you to back-up your old iPhone on the 'work computer' and then restore the new iPhone from that back-up on the 'work computer'. This would sync your photos, iCal, contacts, etc.

  • I synced pictures from my sons computer onto my iphone4 now I can not get them off my phone to save on my computer or delete them off the phone. Any ideas?

I have been looking everywhere to try and figure this out!

Do you sync your iPhone to your own computer? I ask because an i-device can be fully synced to only one computer. Therefore, if you normally sync your iPhone to your own computer, syncing to your son's computer just to get some pictures onto your phone probably bollixed things a bit. (And was unnecessary to do just to get pictures onto the phone.)
Regardless, you should be able to delete individual or small groups of pictures from your iPhone from within the Photos app. Select your Camera Roll, tap the "share" icon in the upper-right corner, select the pictures you want to delete, then tap the DELETE button in the buttom-right.
Getting those pictures from your iPhone to your own computer should work using the same process you've used in the past to get pictures from your iPhone to your computer. The only caveat is that your iPhone might have been paired with your son's computer when you synced it there, so you might need to re-pair it to your own computer first. You should be asked if you want to do this when you connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable.
You can also easily share pictures from your iPhone to any device (desktop computer or otherwise) with a standard web browser using this app or one like it:

  • I just got a new computer with windows 7 (if that matters) And i want to sinc my iphone 3gs apps to my new computer but the only option itunes is giving me is to erase all apps and. How do I sinc the apps without erasing them off my phone?

Please someone answer this and help me. I do not want to erase my apps beacuse than I cant redownload them on my computer. Please someone reply as soon as possible!

Why you can't redownload? Don't you have the Apple ID that used to download these apps?
You can "transfer purchaces" by right click on your iphone in iTunes but i guess you computer is not authorized and will ask you to authorize with Apple ID. Try it.

  • Window users can't save my pictures i do sent by email

    Hello,
Since i upgrade to OS X Lion Window users can't save photo's i do sent them by email. Before the upgrade it was never a problem.
They do receive the mail. When they open it they do see the photos but not as an attatchment. So no jp(e)g attachments...just the photo in the mail.
But whatever they do or try they just can't save the pictures i do mail them.
I also selected "Sent Windows used attatchemnt"....and all other things..nothing helps.
Who can help since i need to mail many pictures each day to window users.
    I would really be thankfull.

It's a known issue with embedded images in Outlook.
It comes up with Mail on Lion cause Apple has decided to redesign Mail more close to the mail standards for better compatibility with the majority of mail applications.
Unfortunately Windows Outlook handle mail in a more proprietary way and not the way almost all other mail applications will do.
A workaround for Windows Outlook users is described in the knowledge base article behind the following link.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917120
A workaround for Apple users is only to put the file in a compressed folder (e.g. ZIP) prior of attaching to the mail.

my iphone has been stolen i did the auto erase online but my phone is offline pending erase i cant bare to think someone has acces to my phots and pictures. how will i know when the erase has been succesful

Thank you again for all of your help!! I really appreciate it!
I think I am following -- I was able to upload to my iPhoto and all photos and videos are there that is a plus! I tried to create an Event in my iPhoto and put all of my photos in that event but for some reason, now my iTunes it not recognizing that Event in my iPhoto. It is not allowing me to import just that event at the moment but I may be doing something wrong. At least all of my pics and vids are in iPhoto so that is a plus and I know they are at least saved somewhere. Just for some reason, my iTunes it not locating the event that I created with only those photos.
Thank you for letting me know about my contacts! How do I know if I have the contacts app?
Also, I had no clue that my iCloud could be backed up via cellular data! However, is this a new feature with the most updated iOS?? Unforutnatly I am like 2 iOS updates behind because I don't have enough storage on my phone. I still get the notification that my phone needs to be plugged in and connected to wifi in order to back up to the cloud :-(
How can I sync using USB? Right now when i click on the info tab for my iPhone in my iTunes this is the answer that I get -- I am a little unclear as to what it means.
    Sync Contacts:
Your contacts are being synced with you iPhone over the air from iCloud. Over-the-air sync settings can be changed on you iPhone
    Sync Calendars:

  • I want to move pictures from my mac to iCloud. Then I want to erase those pictures from my mac and leave them only in iCloud.. Can I do it?

I want to move pictures from my mac to iCloud.com, then I want to erase those pictures from my mac and leave them only in iCloud.. Can I do it?? It looks like it's not possible because if I erase the picture from my mac, then they'll be erased automatically in my iCloud account too!!

If you are using iCloud Photo Library and delete them from any device they will be deleted from iCloud and from all devices using iCloud Photo Library. If you want to reduce the storage space required on your Mac the following quote from iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support may help:
Can I use iCloud Photo Library to save space on my device?
iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps all your photos and videos in the original, high-resolution version. Follow these steps to choose how you store your photos and videos on your device:
In iOS, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select a storage setting.
In OS X, click Photos > Preferences > iCloud, then select a storage setting.
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. All of your original, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud while device-size versions are kept on your device. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them.
If you turn on Download Originals, iCloud Photo Library will keep your original, full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and on your device. Download Originals is the default setting for iOS devices with the free 5 GB storage plan and for all Mac devices.
