Will iLife work on....

I need some help. I want to tranfer some of my home movies to my G4 then burn a DVD. I have read some great things about the new iLife. I was wondering if it can transfer my Sony HC-32 Mini DV home movie to my G4. I have tried with some other programs with my PC running XP but it did not work that well. Will iLife work better? Out of all I read can it tranfer to my G4. I t saids it is good for creating a movie with lots of effect. Can anyone help me out. Thanks.
Jon

Hi Jon,
welcome to this forum
... well, the actual version of iLife is No.6, as you can read here
http://www.apple.com/ilife/systemrequirements.html
has high demands on your computer's specs, your Mac is probably a little "underpowered"...
I do use on my Cube/450 iLife5 (or HD as the apps are called) with great success... ok, creating DVDs is a "overnight" job (=hours and hours....). the Cube doesn't fullfill the specs of iLifeHD either, but I had no problems to install, and iDVD do work with my combo... consider, buying an "old" version of iLife, preferable 04.
so, I'm sure it will work, maybe a little... ponderous. don't be too ambitous with this combo, no "Titanic II" in the made...
===addendum===
your (sorry to say that>>) old G4 doesn't have the graphic-card to allow all the "magic" the new 10.4. offers/no support of core-video... so, probably no realtime effects etc...-

I have a Macbook OS X version 10.4.11. Will iLife '09 work on my macbook or would I need to upgrade my mac?

ALthough I strongly recommend at least 1 GB of RAM for iPhoto - it (according to the specs) will run with 512 MB but you will be much happier with more RAM - and you should always have a min of 10 GB of hard drive space available for general operation of your Mac

  • I installed Lion and now my MS office will not work, is there a way to revert back my original software?

I installed Lion and now my MS office will not work, is there a way to revert back my original software?

Back to Snow Leopard from Lion install method
Read and print out these instructions, your computer is going to be offline and you wil be cutoff from help until your machine is restored.
Clear the Desktop, Downloads and Trash of anything you wish to keep by placing their files in the respective Documents, Music, Pictures, Movie folders.
If you have a TimeMachine drive, update it and disconnect for the duration of this restore time. It will be your second backup system and will have to be wiped and setup again after successfully going back to Snow Leopard if it was connected to the OS X 10.7 boot drive. If it wasn't, then leave it disconnected without updating to Lion.
Backup ALL your Users folders (Documents, Pictures, Movies, Music etc) manually (drag and drop methods) to a (not TimeMachine) external powered drive (HFS+ journaled formatted in Disk Utility) and disconnect, your going to be wiping the entire disk of ALL DATA. (warning, everything will be gone and not recovered)
    Here we go!
Hold c and boot off the 10.6 installer disk that comes with your computer and second screen in just STOP.
Look at the Utilities Menu for Disk Utility.
On the left is the name of your hard drive maker, click it and Erase (format HFS+ Journaled), give it the same name as before, and click Erase...
This should wipe the drive of ALL partitions (GUID, OS X and 10.7 Recovery, Windows if present)
When it's done, quit and install OS X 10.6. Then install all your programs from fresh sources and validate/update.
When you setup a first account, use the same user name as before, this way you can simply drag and drop the content of your previous Users folders from the external drive right back into the new Users folders and everything should work peachy. Links in iTunes to music, playlists and iPhoto links especially.
Update OS X to 10.6.8 using the Combo Update for best results.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
(Note: If your original machine had 10.5 and you want the free iLife that comes with the disks with the computer, then you'll have to install 10.5 first using the same c boot/erase/format methods as above, then update to 10.6 via the disk, then Combo Update 10.6.8)
Final step optional but highly receommended.
A lot of people use a Carbon Copy Clone of their boot drive to a HFS+Journaled external drive as a "hold the option key" bootable backup in case something goes wrong with their boot drive or need to restore to a previous OS X version..  (in addition to TimeMachine drive for more immediate backups.)
It's not advised to have a Bootable Clone and a TimeMachine partition on the same external drive, as two drives gives hardware protection in case one fails.

  • Will napster work with my ipod nano?

will napster work with my ipod nano? or do i have to use itunes, i already have napster monthly so it would be easier for me but please let me know

    Hi Superman,
I am not acquainted with Nabster, so I don't know much about the compatibility to iTunes. My only question is what format would the music be? I don't use Nabster or any P2P software, so I am in the dark. Is it just at random? So for Kyrstin, Knowledge Base Document #93123 on How to Convert a Different Song to a Different File format, would be something to look into if problems arise?

  • Will iDVD work in Lion?

I would like to migrate a copy of iDVD from time machine to my new iMac 27".  Will it work and how do I transfer just iDVD and not all the other applications as well?
    Thanks.
    Dinglehum

Yes, it works in Lion.  However, you need to transfer both the application and themes which are located in your HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder. If copying the themes to that folder and the app to the Applications folder does not let iDVD find the themes you may have to reinstall iDVD from the disk it came on for your old Mac, if you have it.
Otherwise purchase a copy of the boxed iLife 11 disk from Amazon.com: iLife 11. That wahy you'll have it on disk along with the discontinued iWeb for future installs if necessary.

  • Will idvd work w/ osx mavericks?

will idvd work w/ osx mavericks?

iDVD 7 works very well with iMovie 6 HD.  You can get iDVD 7 from an iLife 09 disk (both include iDVD 7) and then updating it to the 7.1.2 from the Apple - Support - Downloads website.
You can get a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com.  When you go to install be sure to do a custom install and install only iDVD and it's resources.
iLife 09 includes all of the themes from previous iDVD versions, 1 thru 7.  the iLIfe 11 disk does not. It only include themes from iDVD 5 thru 7.
Here's my full directions for obtaining iDVD 7:
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Can I buy the US version? Will it work on UK Mac?

OK I know this might be a really really stupid question - but a friend of mine is in the US at the moment and I was going to ask her if she could buy iLife 09 for me and bring it back to the UK.
WIll it work? Or it is a region specific thing?
    Advice appreciated

    Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhh! Zzzzzzz-zzzzz.
    Oops; where was I..?
The programs (in iLife '09) are exactly the same, wherever you buy them: Germany, USA, Japan, UK, wherever. When installing you choose which language you want to use. You'd choose English, obviously.
When the programs are installed, then - like all Apple programs - they have 'Preferences' which you can set up by clicking on the name of the program when it's running ..like you can click on Safari at top-left of this window (..assuming that you're using Safari, which you probably are..) and underneath that are Preferences.
iMovie - and iDVD - has Preferences, and the default ('factory set') Prefs include creating new Projects as NTSC 30 fps video ..because the program assumes that you're an American user.
Under the 'Video' tab, you simply choose 'PAL - 25 fps' if you're using a normal UK camcorder ..which would normally record at 25 frames per second.
Simple ..that's it. Nothing to worry about. That's what everyone in the UK who bought their iMovie/iLife here also has to do. That';s the normal procedure if you live in a PAL country (Europe).
NOTE that some (most?) stills cameras which also shoot video, as a kind of sideline, often shoot video at 30 fps. So check the specifications of any stills camera which you may use for shooting video. If it does shoot at 30fps, then before importing its video you'd set iMovie's Prefs to NTSC - 30 fps, so that the material shot at 30fps is imported into a 30fps Project, not a 25fps Project!
Video will look slightly jerky if 25fps is put in a 30fps Project - and vice versa.
(If you really want to see what happens, here's a 25fps Project, and here's a 30fps Project with the same material in it. What's jerky in one is smooth in the other, and vice versa.)
All this is NORMAL ..it's not tricky or complex. It's the same wherever you buy the program.

  • Apple DVI to Video Adapter on PC???? WILL IT WORK?

Will the Apple DVI to Video Adapter work on PC's as well as Apple? I own a mac but the computer I need to convert on is an older PC with a DVI port on back. Will it work? It's just an adaptor right? It cn't be built to ONLY work on mac...theres no software in that little thing.
    HELP!!! before I buy

No, it won't work with a PC. It requires the video card support the adapter, and since it was made for Apple cards, chances are the PC one won't. You might be lucky, but I doubt it.

  • YouTube will not work on safari for me on the ipad. Is there anyway to fix this? I can go anywhere else on the internet fine and it works on google chrome, but on safari it shows a blank screen with the bar on top after it loads.

YouTube will not work on safari for me on the ipad. Is there anyway to fix this? I can go anywhere else on the internet fine and it works on google chrome, but on safari it shows a blank screen with the bar on top after it loads, if it's even loading at all.
I do not know if it's relevant or not, but I got a message on my ipad while on safari saying that my iPhone has a virus. I looked it up and it seems it might have just been an ad from the website I was on, but it happened around the same time YouTube stopped working.

You will find that using the YouTube app will provide a better viewing experience for YouTube videos.

  • Flash will not let me downgrade to version 10 because it says it is not the most up to date, but the 11 will not work on my computer

I had Adobe FLASH 11 but it did not play any videos, so I was prompted to download the version before it (10.) but it will not let me download it since it is not the latest/most current version of the program. How do I get a version that will actually work?

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

My 1-year ipod nano locked up and would not start overnight. The on/off button will not work and stopped holding charge. No water damage, no fall, nothing unusual. I restored it (twice) but it will still not hold charge and on/off does not work. I tried to restore it again and charged it in three different locations with different cables. etc but nothing. Suggestions?

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

My iPod is a click wheel...I think that's fifth generation?
I've always used my firewire cable to update my iPod. I've tried using USB in the past but for some reason it always says that my iPod has low battery and won't let me update it, so I just use firewire. Can I not use firewire with itunes 7?
I'll try using the USB again. It's laying around here somewhere. Just gotta find it.

  • My phone will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I retype the password it says it is wrong. It will eventually work but I have to wait for a message to pop up on my screen to allow me to retype the wifi password.

When I first got my phone it worked perfectly fine with the wifi. Although later on I began to have problems connecting it. It will randomly disconnect from the wifi and when I try to retype the password it tells me it is wrong, although it is right. It will eventually work but in its own time, a message will pop up and allow me to type in the password and it will work. But sometimes it takes an hour or more and sometime it takes 10 minutes. I've seen where other people have had this problem but I don't know how to fix it. I'm not sure if it's an issue with my phone or if it's with my wifi. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Does this happen with all Wi-Fi hotspots?  A specific one?
Have you tried forgetting the Wi-Fi connection and then reconnecting to it?
What about power cycling the Wi-Fi router?

  • How do I perform a "Suite Product Activation" so that Acrobat will start working on my new Retina MacBook Pro?

How do I perform a "Suite Product Activation" so that Acrobat will start working on my new Retina MacBook Pro?
Like others, I have recently upgraded my MacBook Pro to the next generation and migrated all my information from old to new. Everything works seamlessly EXCEPT Acrobat. Photoshop, Indesign, Bridge and Lightroom all seem functional. Acrobat hangs with an error message "Suite Product Activation Needed. Acrobat was installed as part of a suite. To enable Acrobat, please start another element of the suite (such as Photoshop)." Needless to say, starting another element of the suite has NO impact on Acrobat.
This has to be a common problem. Now that Apple has made it really easy to migrate information from old to new machines, it has to come up all the time. What surprises me greatly is that I can't find any coherent answer in these forums.
So how do I get Acrobat running again?

    Hi Anubha,
I do not understand what you said below.
I am running Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 9.5.5. I do not remember whether it came with Photoshop or InDesign.
When I open Photoshop, it opens without my having to follow any instructions to activate the software. As a matter of fact, I cannot find my Photoshop serial number anywhere in the Photoshop program itself. I do know it from my profile at Adobe.com. Are you suggesting I deactivate Photoshop on the new computer and then reactivate it using my serial number? Will it reactivate?
    When you say
"/Library/Application Support/Adobe" at the root level of the startup disk (not the Library folder inside a user's Home folder)
what do you mean? I do not have a startup disk. I have the original installation disk but that version of Photoshop has been updated a few times.
After staring at your instructions for a while, I realized that you might be talking about the Library/Application Support folders resident on my Macintosh HD, although why you called it a startup disk is unclear to me. IAC, I went into those folders and duly moved the three folders into a new folder I called “Acrob1” and restarted Adobe Acrobat 9 and got the following error message: “AMT Subsystem Failure  The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall of call customer support.” with a small (6).
By undoing my actions I am back to the staus quo ante.
    Now what?
    Regards, Robert
