Will importing music from my old computer to my new computer use up my internet?

I just got a new computer and im using iTunes home sharing to import my music library from my old computer to my new one. I was wondering if it was using up my internet or not..

Not a problem, the home sharing data is only moving over your local network.

I have transferred all of my itunes music for my old pc to a new laptop via an external hard drive.  All songs are sucessfullt loaded in itunes and I can drag songs to my husband's ipod without any problems.  However, when I try to drag songs to my iphone 4, it will not let me.  I get a red circle with a line through it. Why would it work from itunes to ipod but not to my iphone?  HELP!!!

  • I have an iPod that has music from CD's that I no longer have. The iPod was synced to an old computer that crashed. My current iPhone and my old iPod share an itune's account. Is there a way I can transfer my music from my old iPod to my new computer?

I have an old iPod touch with songs from CD's I no longer have (so they weren't purchased on iTunes). The computer that the songs were synced on crashed a while ago. Is there a way I can sync my old iPod to my new computer and retrieve those songs to get them on my new iPhone? They share an Apple ID and iTuens account.

    Most Windows users don't.
Purchase an external hard drive and use the backup software that comes with it to backup files from your computer.
Buy TouchCopy and install it on your new computer, connect your old iPod and transfer your songs to your computer.

  • I need to transfer my music from an old iPod to a new computer

I have a 9 yo iPod that has not had access to a computer for over 4 years. The iPod still works fine.
I'm getting a new mini mac and would lilke to set up an iTunes account on it and have my music and other files.
How do I transfer items? or is it even possible.
    Thanks

Which iPod model is it?  Does it connect with USB?  If it needs FireWire (3rd gen iPod or older), the current Mac mini still has FireWire, but it is FireWire 800 (9-pin) so you will need an adapter to convert it to the old FireWire 400 (6-pin).
Once the iPod connects to the Mac, you cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your new Mac, you can add them to the iTunes library.

  • How do I transfer my music from my old PC to my new laptop using my iPhone?

I recently purchased a new laptop and would like to transfer all my songs from my PC to this laptop. however i heard that you could do this using the iPhone which all the music is on. my itunes on my laptop registers all the songs, it just wont let me transfer them to my library. any suggestions?

Hello, As long as all the music content came from the iTunes WiFi Store, or iTunes Store on the PC/Mac you can transfer it on up to 5 total machines.
Step 1: Launch itunes - Click Store in itunes menu bar - click authorize computer - and login into the apple ID you used to purchase all your content. You should get a success message
Step 2: Connect iPhone, Cancel anything syncing alerts. Especially cancel if it says it has to erase and sync as you do not want to erase your media content yet.
Step 3. Now click File in iTunes menu bar - Then click transfer purchases from "iPhone name"
This will scan iPhone. And copy content back into iTunes that came from iTunes WiFi Store or iTunes Store.
Once this is done you can setup normal music media sync. Keep in mind it will still need to erase and sync but since content is in iTunes now it will come back.
Please keep in mind any content from CDs is a 1 way sync. And you will need the CDs to put music back into iTunes.

  • Help with importing music from your old computer that is on cd rw's

When you import music from your old computer that is on cd rw's how do get all the song info back?
For example when you plug your ipod in (after you've imported the music) that already has on the songs on it and the titles will it just automatically update it? I have soooo many songs and I'm really not looking forward to having to fill in all the information now myself.Music was exported from my old computer from itunes on to blank cd's. Now I'm in the process of importing the cd's into the itunes library. The songs do not come with titles. They just say track 1, track 2, for example. From my understanding itunes can only pull up the cd info for the actual cd that you buy in the store. I would really appreciate anyone's help.

I'm not sure. I burned the songs on a cd-r through itunes. What do you think?
Sadly, this is not a good way to prepare for transfering your library. If your music still exists on your iPod then the easiest thing is probably to look at this post from Zevoneer which gives details of various methods for pulling data back from the iPod.

  • HT1420 when I try to import music from my old computer i get an error message that says authorization is needed to access "the song"

I am trying to import my music on my old laptop to my new laptop using Home Sharing both computers are authorized however I can't seem to import due to an error message that says authorization is needed to access "the name of the song"  Help.

If they were ripped from CD's there is no authorization.
Were they possibly purchased with a different Apple ID?  If so, you'll need to authorize the computer for that Apple ID.

  • Can anyone help me with process of moving only my pics and music (purchased and imported cds) from a old G5 to a new iMac. Thanks Dan

Can anyone help me with process of moving only my pics and music (purchased and imported cds) from a old G5 to a new iMac. Thanks Dan

The easiest way is to connect the G5 and your new iMac together via Firewire.  Then you can use what is called "Target Disk Mode" which basically makes the G5 look like an external hard drive to your iMac.  The potential gotcha is if your new iMac does not have a Firewire port.  In that case, you need to get the Apple Thunderbolt-Firewire adapter in order to connect the two machines (as far as I know, all G5's had one or more Firewire ports).  I have done this many times, it's easy and works perfectly.
Alternatively, you could connect both Macs to the same network and log into the G5 from your iMac.  This involves going into System Preferences > Sharing on the G5 and turning on File Sharing and then logging in from your iMac to the G5 as if it were a server.   (Logging in through the Finder or via Go > Connect to Server).  This also works fine but it's a little more involved than using Target Disk Mode.  I do this all the time and it too works fine.
Either way, once the two Macs are connected, you will use the Finder on your iMac to copy files/folders from your G5 the same as you would from any external hard drive.  Regarding iTunes, you could just copy your entire iTunes library over to your iMac being careful to put it in the same relative folder location:   /users/yourusername/Music/iTunes   This method will preserve your playlists and album art.  Alternatively you could go into iTunes and do Add to Library but I'm not completely sure doing it that way will bring over your album art and it certainly won't bring over your playlists.
I see no reason to use a separate external hard drive.  It will just double the time it takes to transfer your files because you would first have to copy everything to the hard drive, then in a second step copy everything from the hard drive to your iMac.
Note:  In all cases there is the possibility that you may need to change file & folder permissions on the things you copy over so you can access (read & write) to these folders & files once copied to your new iMac.  This is not a difficult process.

Hi! I just bought a new iPhone and I was wondering how i can make sure all my pictures and music will be transfered from my old iPhone to my new one?

Pictures are held in the iPhone backup. If you backup the old device just prior to the activation of the new one, then restore from that backup, the photos will be there. Music is in iTunes on the computer and when you do the restore, it will download the music from iTunes to the device during the restore. Make sure any music purchased on the iPhone that has not been transfered to iTunes on the computer is done before beginning the restore.
