Will installing CS6 over cloud over write my CS5 owned copy?

I have a personal, owned, copy of CS5 but through work could have a cloud version of CS6. Will installing CS6 over write my copy of CS5?
If not, why am I prompted to close Photoshop before I can install the new version?

No the installation of Photoshop CS6 will not overwrite your installation of Photoshop CS5.  You are being prompted to close Photoshop CS5 because there are shared components which likely need to be updated.

  • Installing cs6 over cs4

I currently have Cs4, I downloaded it directly from Adobe, I have no Cd, I just have the serial numbers.
I have a year long internship and my boss wants me to download cs6 onto my computer. However, after this year I will have to uninstall c6s. I'm wondering if when I uninstall cs6, I will not be able to have cs4 on my computer anymore? And I'm not sure if cs4 is still downloadable from Adobe? I'm just worried that I will no longer have cs4...

You do not have to install CS6 over CS4.  You can have both on the machine.
CS4 is downloadable from Adobe and it should remain that way for a long time to come.  There is also an alternative site where you can download the trial version and activate it to full use with your serial number.  The links for both are provided below.  For the second you need to follow the instructions carefully for the downloads to work.
    Adobe:

  • Installing CS6 and what to do with CS5.5?

I'm a new user to Creative Suite. Just installed CS5.5 Standard a couple of weeks ago on my Windows7 (64-bit) laptop. Have been using the product and apps since then with no problems.
I qualified for the upgrade to CS6, and will be downloading that shortly, and had some questions about how to handle that to ensure it all goes smoothly.
Will this install a completely separate program (or rather, suite of programs), or just "build on" and/or "upgrade" the existing CS5.5? Meaning, after I run the CS6 installer, will there be only one CS on my system, and it will be the new version 6? Or will I have two running independently, BOTH CS5.5 and CS6?
If it does result in two versions:
Do I use my same serial number to register?
Should I completely uninstall CS5.5? Both to save hard drive space, and make the new version (6) run properly? Should I "de-register" version CS5.5? (and should I do that AFTER installing CS6? Or before?)
Are there pros/cons to "keeping" both installed (if that's what happens)?
What about the settings I've configured in my existing CS5.5 (custom dictionary, menus, etc.). Will those transfer to the upgraded CS6? Do I need to import them, or will that happen automatically?
Any insight to these issues would be appreciated. And if there's a FAQ on dealing with this (I looked but didn't find one), please point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Answers in order of your questions:
The programs are sepoarate. Your CS5.5 wil lremain functional and avialable.
    -does not apply-
You have separate serials for both versions and the CS5.5 one qualifies as the upgrading one
Keep it around. Forums are ful lof bug reports. CS6 doesn't care for CS5.5, so nothing is gained. if you must unisntall, do so before installing CS6.
Pros: You work with a tested, halfway safe version, when you keep CS5.5 around. Also as long as plug-ins e.g.  for Photoshop aren't updated yet, peopel wil lrequire to work with older versions for compatibilty.
Settings do not transfer. You need to configure them fresh and make use of the import/ export features e.g. for brushes, layer style and so on in Photoshop. Same for other programs.

  • I installed cs6.  now can i deinstall cs5?

I installed CS6 (not trial version).  Can I deinstall CS5?  I'm afraid I will lose my credentials, or also might remove some shared files.  What about Camera Raw?  I'm afraid ACR might be deinstalled.  Speaking of ACR, I see no way of determining which version of ACR is running.  When I'm in Bridge CS6 and open ACR, how do i know it's the new version?

I deinstalled CS5 and only had one slight problem. PSD files then default on opening to QuickTime viewer. A dialogue may come up when you attempt to open a PSD file from Bridge after the deinstall of CS5 that  some default has changed for QuickTime and do you want to restore default or something like that. No other info, so I responded yes and perhaps should have said no. The PSD files then open in QuickTime!  Easy to fix. Go into Windows Explorer, right-mouse on a PSD file and set default to PS6.
Also, I deinstall programs through a wonderful deinstall program as Windows deinstall is very bad about leaving garbage behind. This deinstaller always first checks if the application to be deinstalled has it's own deinstaller and if it does, uses it, so it used the Adobe deinstaller. When done with a deinstall, it offers to clean up the mess often left by deinstallersregistry, and files and shortcuts and other garbage. In the case of CS5 it thankfully gave me a warning that CS5 and CS6 were installed in the same directory and to be careful of cleaning up any further. This deinstaller then shows all the items left behind and there was a TON of itemscomplicated names--far too much stuff. I thought it best to leave them alone. PS6 and Bridge work fine after the deinstall and leaving all those other things alone, but my whole point is that I have 30+ years of IT experience and think Adobe is playing a very dangerous game by installing new versions of their software in the same folder as the older version. It's not the right thing to do from an architectural perspective, nor a safe thing to do, and could cause customers real headaches  Let this warning go out to anyone deinstalling previous version. By the way, I use Revo uninstaller, which, by the way, also creates a restore point BEFORE doing any deinstall so a customer could completely in-do a deinstall if problems.

  • How do I redownload and install CS6 (non cloud) onto my new drive?

My drive was recently corrupted and replaced. I had purchase CS6 premium before Creative Cloud was introduced. I have the order number. How do I download and reinstall CS6 onto my new drive.
    Thanks.

    Hi John Waller,
    Thanks for the installer link.
I have downloaded the package but when I entered the serial number it says "Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product could not be found on this computer."
And I was prompted to select a product. My purchase was for "Design and Web Premium, version 6" and it is not listed in the list provided. I have tried all of the CS6 options and they don't work. It says "This serial number is not for a qualifying product. Please try another."
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

  • Installed CS6 and now can't uninstall CS5

Just as the title says.  CS5 is no longer listed in Programs and Features.  I searched all the CS5 folders for a file named uninstall and found nothing.  Any idea on how to get CS5 of this computer?

I did but CS5 is still taking up tons of space on the SSD.  Can I just delete all the CS5 folders?
The cleaner tool didn't remove a single file from this SSD that I can tell.

  • Can I install Adobe Web Premium CS6 over CS5 on Yosemite?

I've downloaded and installed Adobe web premium CS5 and registered it. My company paid an upgrade for CS6. What are steps for installing CS6 - can I upgrade directly from CS5 without uninstalling it?

CS6 is a separate install, so whether you remove CS5 beforehand or just leave it in place is ultimately entirely your choice.

  • Freehand import of CS5 broken after installing CS6

    Hello,
on my windows 7 machine my freehand import of Illustrator CS5 and CS4 is broken after installing cs6 creative cloud.
I can still select a freehand file to open and the dialog box appears, but after choosing OK nothing happens. No file opens and no error appears. It doesn´t depend on the freehand file because my other machine with CS3 can still open these files.
What can i do  to repair illustrator? - it´s part of a master collection install.
    Siegfried Baldauf

Adobe has dropped support for Freehand import in CS6. You will have to either use an older version of AI and then save it to AI or open them in Freehand and then export to a format that AI can import.
open the Open file Dialog and see the files that illustrator CS6 can open. Here is the list of supported files that AI CS6 can open

You use the redemption code to obtain a serial number.

  • Will Installing LTR5 from CC  be compatible with full version LTR 5.7 on desktop ? will it over write any settings i have and what purpose will this serve?

will Installing LTR5 from CC  be compatible with full version LTR 5.7 on desktop ? I bought the standalone LTR5  couple years ago .So  will CC LTR5 overwrite any settings i have in This application ?And simply merge with what I have on desktop without too much trouble ? I have over 10,000 photos in Libraryin LTR5.7   Do  I Leave LTR5 IN CC alone even tho I am  paying for the Photgraphy package at 9.99?. whats the difference between the Lightrooms ? Thanks on clarifying !

There is only one version of the Lightroom program. The Lightroom standalone version, the student version, and the CC version are all the same program. The only difference is in how they are licensed. The standalone version that you are using is activated with a serial number. The CC installation is activated with your Adobe ID and Adobe password. I would suggest that you uninstall your standalone version. Then you will be able to install Lightroom from the creative cloud application manager. The application manager will keep track of updates for you as they are released. And when Lightroom 6 is released you will get it automatically, no additional charge, as part of your creative cloud subscription.
Uninstalling your current Lightroom will uninstall the program, but will leave the catalog and all user files as well as all of your images on the computer. Once you have installed Lightroom from the creative cloud manager you will be able to simply double-click on the desktop icon (which will look just like the old one) and start right where you left off. Everything will be intact, business as usual. I know this because I went through the process I have described when I joined the creative cloud. It happened just as I have described. There were no problems in switching.

  • If I sync apps with migration assistant, will it over-write the newer iLife apps on my new MacBook Pro?

I purchased a new MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion) and connected it to my existing iMac (Lion) to transfer over my user account, music and applications.  It did not occur to me that the process might over-write the iLife apps already factory installed on the MBP.  I am having trouble checking if that happened, but getting info on both iPhoto and iMovie shows that they are 32-bit applications (Calendar, Contacts and iMessage just show as "applications" without saying if they are 32- or 64-bit).
What version numbers should all those iLife apps be? If I have over-written them, what would I have to do to restore the factory installed versions at this point since the MBP does not come with install disks anymore?

MacJack: I did the migration when started up the computer for the first time.
As for suggestion from Mende1, it sounds like a great idea, but if I did over-write what was already there, will the App Store charge me for the apps if I did not buy them through the App Store (since they came pre-installed on the MBP)?  If so, I would prefer to take the MBP to an Apple store with the receipt and offer an explanation.
Would knowing the version numbers of the software I now have installed be enough information to know if they were the versions that came pre-installed on the MBP under Mountain Lion?

  • Would it work to install ENG CS6 upgrade over non-ENG CS5.5?

  • Will LP8 over write LP7?

    Hi,
I'm currently using LP7 for my job and some of the project still in the half way...mean in the progress. And last few days i just bought the Logic Studio 1 mean i wish to install the LP8 into the same computer.
May i know that will the New version LP8 over write everything (LP7)?I'm wondering that whether i can use the LP8 to run the project which is now i'm run in LP7?will all my midi, software instrument, arrangement, effects, automation and so on will disappear or overwrite by LP8?
Sorry for my poor discription..i hope you understand the question ... haa..
    Urgent,thanks!!!

Yes it SHOULD. However, there have been a small number of reports of strange things happening to some of the settings when installing Logic 8. The installer will install new content and new settings for things like EXS and Space Designer, but the old ones should still be there. Make sure you look at the installer very carefully, and make sure to install everything that says 'legacy content.'
    Good Luck!

Here's how to convert the Trail to Permanent:
    On receiving Trial/Trial Expired screen
Make sure that you are online
    Click on license this software
Perpetual product owners: Log in with adobe ID and enter product serial number
    Product should be licensed successfully
