Will Iomega Zip 250 Drive Work?

I use a Dual 1 Ghz PowerPC G4 Mac (QuickSilver 2002); run Mac OS X 10.5.8.  I have one open bay below my factory installed optical drive.  Will the:
Iomega Zip 250 MB drive ATAPI work in my Mac?  Mfg. #: 11113  Will I be able to use my Iomega Zip 100 MB disks? Enclosed please see pictures.

When two devices share the same data ribbon cable in a system that doesn't support "Cable Select," the device at the end connector of the ribbon cable is configured as "master," while the device connected to the middle connector is configured as "slave."  Your optical drive likely has its configuration jumper installed as "master," so the Zip drive should have the small plastic jumper installed across the  pins marked "slave."  Do you primarily have 100 MB Zip disks or a mixture of 250 MB and 100 MB disks?  The reason I'm asking is to determine if you've already acquired the Zip 250 drive or would prefer a Zip 100 drive?  A Zip 250 drive can read and write both Zip 250 and Zip 100 disks, but erasing/reformatting a Zip 100 disk in a Zip 250 drive with the IomegaWare software takes a long time.  Iomega had a tech support article about this some years ago.  Since the IomegaWare software isn't compatible with OS 10.5.x, you wouldn't attempt to install it anyway.  If you only need to access these Zip 100 or 250 disks for file retrieval, why not save yourself some trouble and use a USB bus-powered external Zip 250 drive.  It connects to your computer via a USB cable for both power and data, so it doesn't need a separate power supply.  They're no longer manufactured (as is the case with all Zip drives), but you could probably find one at eBay.  I recently saw a new-in-box/sealed Zip 250 USB drive priced at $10 in a thrift store, but it had no takers for weeks.  After CD-R/RW and DVD±RW disks replaced Zip 100, 250, and 750 drives as the preferred media for data backup, flash drives have gradually replaced CD and DVD burners.

  • Will a WD hard drive work with AirPort Extreme to connect with an iPad Air

Will a WD hard drive work with Airport Extreme to connect by a iPad Air

If you already have an AE and a WD drive .. the best idea is plug it in and see on a mac in airport utility is the drive recognised.
If not you have problems.. if it is formatted correctly (Not NTFS mainly) then it can be a drive that is not compatible.
assuming it works get your ipad and pay for filebrowser or at least download a test copy and see how it goes.
Always the best way to find out.. try it.

Some do and some do not. You should read the technical information carefully to determine if it's USB 2.0 compatible.

As you quote the price in 'Pounds' I'm assuming you are in the UK!
You might want to consider one of these from Amazon.  I have one on my MBA and it works well.

  • Iomega ZIP-100 Drive - configuration

    Hey all,
how to configure Iomega ZIP-100 Drive (SCSI) under System 7?

    Hello, moksienciuk.
You can configure many drive settings with Iomega Tools, which you can find on the Tools disk that comes with the Zip drive. If you don't have an Iomega Tools disk, you may be able to find one online. (Iomega no longer sells them, so check Amazon or eBay.)

  • Iomega Zip 100 Drive Stopped Working in OS 10.4.4

We have 3 G4 Macs which have internal Zip 100 drives installed. they have all worked fine until we upgraded to system 10.4.4, and now the computer does not recognize the zip disk when inserted.
Iomega says that the software for the drives is native to OS X, and they do not have a driver update beyond 4.0.2. I am stumped in trying to figure out how to get the drives working again, and will welcome help on this problem.
    Dudley

Hi, Dudley. It looks like Iomega has abandoned the old and now very obsolete Zip 100 technology in favor of newer, larger, faster, more reliable, longer-lived, and higher-capacity removable media, notably the 35GB-per-cartridge Rev technology. I doubt that either Iomega or Apple will bother to write a driver for Zip 100 drives that is compatible with any recent version of OS X, never mind any future version.
When a 100MB Zip disk costs around $5 (when you can still find them), a 700MB CD-R costs 15 cents, a 4.7GB DVD-R costs $2, and huge, fast hard drives go for $.30-.$35/GB, there's just no reason to keep using Zip100 drives or disks. Put Zip's very high costs together with the very limited lifespan of a Zip disk, and you get a technology that is dead, dead, dead.
Find an old Mac that can still read your Zip disks, copy everything off all of them onto a FireWire hard drive, and say goodbye to Zips.

  • Will a 500G hard drive work in my first generation G5?

dual 2.0ghz? i plan to buy a 500g hard drive, and i thought i remembered reading somewhere that they couldn't handle them, but maybe i'm mistaken.
    thanks

Just remember that if you want to add the 500 GB internally it needs to be a SATA drive. Externally, you will need a Firewire Drive or an enclosure for an IDE drive. I have a 500 internal and just added a 750 GB Firewire External and they work fine...

  • How can I get an Iomega Zip 250 to operate on my MacBook Air?

Running 10.7.5 on a MacBook Air and want to access data on a bunch of Zip Disks. Plugging my Iomega Zip250 into a USB port, the Mac doesn'y even recognize it. Is there any hope?

From study of same just now, others have tried to mount Iomega Zip on LION without any luck.
If Lion wont mount Iomega, conclusion follows for Mountain Lion
Youll need to find some older mac or PC to run the old-tech Iomega disks.

  • Will a 250gb hard drive work?

I read that on the specifications page that my macbook is only supported up to 200gb hard drive ( its a mid 2007 model, sept 2007 to be specific) i was wondering if that means that a 250gb hard drive will NOT work?

    Niel wrote:
The larger drive will work if it fits into the computer.
I'm not doubting your word for one minute, but I wonder why the spec mentions the upper limit of 200 Gb, if 250 Gb will work just as well?

No, no SATA drive can be used in any Powerbook. You need an ATA/IDE drive.

  • Will new USB hard drive work in Safe Mode?

    Hello,
I just a had a recent post about some Toshiba laptop issues I am having.  To make sure I don't lose my files, I have have been looking at a Western Digital 500GB USB drive.
I'm able to boot to Safe Mode OK, and USB thumb drives have worked.  I noticed this WD USB drive has software to install.  Will I be able to use the USB hard drive for the first time in Safe Mode, or will I need to install the software first (which I don't think I'll be able to do in Safe Mode).
Just making sure I can before I buy it, thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

you should not have any problem installing the WD software in safe mode and perform the backup.

  • Will the MSI Combo drive work w/ non-Intel boards someday?

I found out, after I'd gotten an MSI SATA combo drive for my MSI nVidia chipset motherboard and been using it for a few weeks, that the MSI drive is not supposed to be used with my board.  This would explain the stalling errors I'm getting while trying to burn CD's.  I've got the latest firmware on the CD-ROM, by the way - version 1.20.  The MSI Live Update software only knows about version 1.10.
The product page says it's only supposed to be used with boards that have certain Intel chipsets.  Is this a firmware limitation - in other words, will there be a software fix for this problem someday?  Or should I just get rid of the drive now?

But that just doesn't make sense.  I have a motherboard that is advertised as having "SATA" connectors and a Combo drive that is advertised as being "SATA", and they are made by the same manufacturer, yet they don't work with each other.  Where is the defect?  Is it in the motherboard or is it in the drive?  Surely it is not the SATA spec itself, otherwise the SATA spec is meaningless.
Going by MSI's page for the Combo drive, I would assume the problem is in the drive because they say "only works with Intel xxx, yyy, zzz chipset motherboards".
I just want to know if one or the other will be fixed (in software) someday so that I can use this Combo drive's burning capabilities.  That's all.
