Will Ipad air 1 cases fit ipad air 2?

Since the ipad air 2 is slimmer than the 1, will any of the cases fit properly or do I have to wait for third party cases to be released (don't want to buy the official apple case)?

iPad Air 2                         iPad Air 1
Height:
9.4 inches (240 mm)
Width:
6.6 inches (169.5 mm)
Depth:
0.24 inch (6.1 mm)
Height:
9.4 inches (240 mm)
Width:
6.6 inches (169.5 mm)
Depth:
0.29 inch (7.5 mm)
As you can see the iPad Air 2 is thinner so id say its not going to work and you should just get a new case.

  • Will iPad 3 case fit an iPad 4

I am giving an ipad 4 for Christmas. Will an ipad 3 case fit an ipad 4?

    Yes!  I use one.
Note the dock connectors are different sizes, with the iPad 4 being smaller than the iPad 3.  So if your case has some special provision for the dock connector, that may be a factor.
But the devices are the same size.

Will the iPad Smart Case fit the 4th generation iPad

The iPad Smart Case works with the iPad 2 and newer, so it works with a 4th generation iPad properly

  • Would an ipad 2 case fit an ipad 3rd gen?

I Have an ipad 3rd gen and I am having trouble finding a case for it. Would an ipad 2 case fit it, I found an expensive case which said it would fit an ipad 3rd gen, ipad 2 2nd gen and iPads with retina display. I'm a bit confused.
    thanks Susie

    Yes
There's really no such thing as iPad 1 third gen
I'ts iPad (what became iPad 1 once the 2 came out)
    iPad 2
iPad 3 (which was only sold less than a year)
    iPad 4
    iPad Air (5th gen)
iPad Air 2 (6th gen, although it's rarely referred to as such)
iPad 1, 2 and 3 are pretty much the same. (except for the thickness which I think was to accommodate a different battery) iPad 4 is where the lightning connector came into play. iPad Air and Air 2 had some major size changes.
Your case might fit, it all depends on what kind of case it is. If it's a close fitting silicone or hard case, then likely not. if it's a portfolio kind where you slide your iPad into a sleeve or space in a case then it might. Those are the most forgiving of cases and the extra couple of millimeters in thickness are usually able to slide by.
Depending on where you found the case, if the place has a good return policy you can always give it a try and return it if it doesn't work well.

  • Do cases/covers for iPad mini 1 fit iPad mini 2 with it being 2mm thicker in depth?

    Hi
Just wondering do cases/covers for iPad mini 1 fit iPad mini 2? Only some people say they do, some say they don't what with it being 2mm thicker in depth & having an extra microphone?
    Thanks in advance

To be sure stop by the Apple Store, tell them you're thinking about getting a mini and you'd like to see if it would fit  in your case. Don't try it without first asking.

  • Will an iPad 2 case fit the iPad Air?

I want that case for the iPad Air, but it just dawned on me it might not fit. Will it, or do I need to find another case?

iPad 2 is wider and thicker. A case for it will not fit properly with the iPad Air.

  • Will the iPad 3 cases fit the new iPad 4?

Is the width, height, depth, size same????????? or is the size a little different?

The physical dimensions are the same and all cases that work with the iPad '3' will also work with the iPad '4'.  The center of the Lightning port is in the same location as the 30-pin dock connector center so while the opening may be larger than necessary when a '4' is placed in a '3' case it will work fine.

iPad 2 cases don't work with 4th generation or 3rd generation iPad
The reason that some iPad 2 cases won't work with iPad '3/iPad '4' and some do is two-fold.  First, the iPad '3'/'4' is a bit thicker which may cause a tighter than optimum fit--depending upon the case style.  Stretchable cases won't be much of a problem, hard shell cases could be.
The second reason is because the iPad 2 only has a position requirement for the magnets to engage the on/off function, it does not also have a polarity requirement for the magnets as does the iPad '3'/'4'.  If the polarity randomly happens to be a match it will work.  If not it won't.
So to sum it up, if it is advertised to work with the iPad '3' or '4' it will work with the iPad 2 though the fit might be a little bit loose with some case styles.  If it was built expressly for the iPad 2 it may or may not function fully with the iPad '3'/'4'.

  • Will this iPad 3 case fit my ipad 2?

    Hello!
I've been looking at iPad 2 cases and this one seems to be perfect for my uses. However, it is labeled as an iPad *3* case (or well, The New iPad), and I was wondering if it would still fit my 2. I understand the iPad 3 is deeper than the iPad 2, but I've had trouble finding all the specifications on this issue.
The diminsions of the case are:
    0.6 x 9.5 x 7.4 inches
    The Amazon link is:

Any help would be spectacular, thank you, Internet.

It will but its gonna be lose....right now i have a ipad 2 case on my ipad 3 and it fits but a little tight...but it still fits...:D......but yea it should fit

  • Will the ipad 3 case fit the ipad 4

I am trying to find a folio/hard case for my new ipad 4 and can only find ipad 3 cases.  Will these work.

    Thank you,

  • Can the ipad 2 case fit the new ipad?

I just ordered the new IPad and was wondering if any IPad 2 case would support the new IPad?  I know the demensions are very minute, but does it make a huge difference?  Or do you think I should just wait for what comes out?
    Thanks

I think some will. Portfolio cases that you just slide the iPad into should be okay. might be a bit tight but if there's elastic in the right place it could work. The form fitting snap on cases or silicone cases might be a different issue. that .03 could be too much for them.

  • Do the iPad 2 Cases fit the Retina iPad?

Would the snap on and silicone cases fit the Retina Display iPad

Yours does - but a lot more (particularly hard cases) don't.
To the OP: if you have a hard case, be extra caotious when applying  an iPad 2 hard case. You may end up having to use a knife to get the case off. If, after applying two corners, you see it won't fit, do NOT try to fit the third corner!

  • Would iPad Mini cases fit the iPad mini 2?

Probably sounds silly as they are virtually the same and no difference in size or dimensions were mentioned but I compared iPad models and the iPad Mini 2 is thicker by 0.3mm. Now this might sound miniscule but cases are made to fit perfectly and I'm afraid even 0.3mm would make a difference in using a case? Am I paying too much attention or should I get cases specifically said to be compatible with iPad Mini 2?

I think it depends. If you're looking for a tight fitting snap case then you may want to look for Mini 2 cases specific, or get it from a place with a good return policy. If it's a portfolio case or a silicone case you should be fine because they  have more wiggle room.
i've found that some retailers don't care if you 'try it on' in the store, you just have to ask for their help or be very careful when you open the packaging so that it is still resellable.
I have a Touch 5 and have found that iPhone 5 cases fit it, the bits of millimeters in difference doesn't pose a problem (Biggest issue I have is buttons being in different places, not case size)

  • Best Ipad3 case with keyboard? Can I use a Ipad 2 case for Ipad 3?

I just bought the Ipad3 and I need to buy the case, but all the cases I found are for the Ipad 2 - are the Ipad 2 and 3 the same size? Can I use same case?
Which one is the best case with keyboard for ipad 3?
    Thanks!

First, we have a whole bunch of threads on this, so a search would help, and it would offer dozens of answers to this you might want to think about including a long thread where I reviewed a whole bunch of keyboards for the ipad3....
    But in short,
The Zagg Folio fits both the 2 and the 3 -- most people are finding in general that almost all cases made for the ipad 2 work with the iPad 3....
The Zagg has what I have found to be, by far, the best keyboard with the least errors -- in fact, I was able to get about 60 wpm on the keyboard without error after only a few minutes of practice. The downside is that the case is flimsy, looks kinda cheap, and its really hard to get the iPad out of the folio case -- I've found I have stopped using the folio at all, and just use the keyboard on my desk at work.
The clamcase fits both the ipad 2 and the iPad 3 -- it is by far the best overall case/keyboard that I have found. It looks great -- and the keyboard works well. Because of the realignment of the magnets in the ipad 3, it does not turn on/turn off the iPad like it does with the ipad 2, where that works flawlessly.
The downside is that the keys are cramped, and the error rate increases. With about a half hour of practice, I got about a 45 wmp typing rate, and that included several errors that required correction. It's a tradeoff because the keyboard feels good, the response is good, but because the keys are not seperated it is harder to type. I use this case only when I go on longer trips and don't want to take my laptop.
The nest overall keyboard is the Apple bluetooth keyboard without a case -- but it's a pain to lug it along, and you need a seperate "easel" for your ipad. Still, it's the best keyboard you can use -- and I get 65 wpm error free with this keyboard. I have one at home, and it's my keyboard of choice when you don't need the case.
Finally, I've gound that Brookstone makes a decent keyboard -- it works well, comes in multiple colors, and its actually more stable than the Zagg folio. The keyboard is not as good, though, and is plastic-y feeling. Still, it might be a fair tradeoff.
Almost all other keyboards are made by the same companies and distributed to third parties who put them into their own cases. I'd stay away from most of the other keyboards.
Overall -- for the convenience of the sheer folio thing, the Clamcase is about as good as it gets, even though it is about 50 dollars more than the Zagg and other similar models. Plus it makes your iPad look like a macbook, which is kind of cool.

  • Will macbook pro cases fit my white macbook

i didnt even think to look into this before i asked for a gift card for my birthday to the apple store to be able to buy a soft case for my white macbook.
    do the pro cases fit?

Most of them will fit, but some cases will be too tight because the macbook pro's are slightly thinner.
Take your laptop with you. The apple store staff will let you try the case before you buy it. (they do at my store).

  • Will iPhone 5 cases fit the iPhone 5C

Looking to purchase the iPhone 5C and am wondering if my all my iPhone 5 accessories including cases are compatible.

I wouldn't count on cases fitting, since the dimensions are different than the 5; but you may be able to stretch a silicone case to fit the 5C. Cables and adapters should work fine.
