The new release looks promising. Look forward to hear more in Birmingham.
Just now we have a problem. It have to do with functionality In Toad compared to SQL Developer.
Will it be possible to run several jobs in background at the same time. Toad allows that.
If yes: How can we make that happen?

"Jobs" are always background.
But I take you mean queries. Yes, since v1.5.x you can open an Unshared SQL Worksheet (ctrl-shift-n or the toolbar button).

Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?

Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

You can only have one book open on-screen at a time, and you will need to go back to the bookshelf to select and re-open the second book. If you have the second book from a different store so that it's in a different app (e.g. an Amazon purchase in the Kindle app) then you could switch between then two apps/books via the iPad's taskbar - but you won't be able to have both apps open on screen at the same time.

Yes, sure you can.
Just make sure that you create a collection of the images used for each book.
Otherwise when you go back to a book you previously worked on the images won't be found.
Also, as said earlier create a <saved book> - top right in the Book Module.

Running Reports 6i and 9i at the same time

I was wondering what the issues were with running Reports 6i and 9i at the same time. We are planning on up grading at a client, and I heard that there are some problems with doing this. I was thinking that installing them in different ORACLE_HOME's would help keep problems to a minimum. At home I have Reports 6i and 9i running, and I have not seen any problems.

We suggest you install 6i and 9i at different oracle home. There are no known issue about running 6i and 9i at the same time.

Event based scheduler job - 2 events at the same time only 1 run

Hi,
i converted our dbms_job - jobs to the newer package dbms_scheduler.
It is a 10.2.0.4 patch 23(8609347) database on an windows server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition SP2.
The Jobs(about 130) are nothing special ... only some statistics, matview-refreshes and so on.
For the notification of failed jobs and jobs which run over the max_run_duration i downloaded and installed the job notification package.
The jobs are assigned to different departments and the corresponding developer teams in our company.
I created a notification job for each department and if a job fails we (the database administrators) and the corresponding deverlopers will be informed.
Now i ascertained that only 1 email will be send if 2 jobs of the same department fails at the same time.
The emailer-jobs are auto-generated by the job notification package. I only modified them to look after all jobs of special department and not only after one job. (--> event_condition ... object_name LIKE 'XXX%')
example for dba-jobs(copy of the script output of TOAD):

    );I thought that a queue is used to manage all events from the scheduler jobs. So i made a test with 2 dba jobs and simulated a failure at the same time but i received only one mail.
So what is happend with the second event? I looked for the events in the qtab(SCHEDULER$_EVENT_QTAB) which belongs to the event queue(SYS.SCHEDULER$_EVENT_QUEUE) and no event was missing.
So i think the emailer job has to run 2 times.
Is anyone able to explain or to find my mistake?
I know that the easiest way is to create one emailer job for each normal job but i think this is a little bit costly because all the arguments are the same for one department.

You are right with the "enabled => TRUE;" part and i only forgot to post it.
So the Job is enabled (otherwise it would not send any mail). Because it is sending one mail i think it is also not necessary to hand over a job_type.
Additionally the job starts a program ... so it is right to set the job_type='STORED_PROCEDURE' isn't it?
And also right ... i already added the agent as subscriber to the queue.
Anyway i think the whole thing do what it have to do. So in my oppinion there are no big mistakes in creating the job or at adding the subscriber.
There are also no problem in raising the events by itself and enqueue them in the scheduler event queue.
There is only a problem when 2 jobs fails (or run out ouf max duration) at exactly the same time.
If i understand it right:
The agent/subscriber will find the "JOB_FAILED"-event for the first Job in the queue and starts the emailer Job.
The agent will also find the "JOB_FAILED"-event for the second Job and wants to start the emailer Job again.
I don't know if this is really the problem but perhaps the emailer-job can not be started in consequence of the second event because ist is already running.
I also don't know if this is a mistake of the agent or of the emailer-job by itself.
I only want that it runs two times (one run for each event). I my case it also doesn't matter which email is send at first.

Can I run two copies of FrameMaker at the same time?

I am trying to learn Structured FrameMaker. Is it possible/legal/safe to start two copies of FrameMaker on my PC at the same time?
Specifically I want to have one copy open in Structured FM to experiment and the other copy in Unstructured to take notes on what I am learning. I am trying to see if I understand the concepts by writing up a tutorial but I do not want to be locked into structured mode when do not have a template which covers all of my needs ( I am still figuring them out) and I do not yet really understand what the structured templates do.
Will the documents save by the rules of the window they are in? What other problems will/could I encounter?

Marjorie,<p>If your machine has sufficient disk space and memory, yes, you can run multiple copies of FrameMaker at once. To run the different user interfaces at the same time, you'd have to start both copies. Then, change the user interface in one copy. Since the change doesn't take affect until you restart FrameMaker, shut down that copy and start a new one (leaving the first user interface in effect in the other original copy.<p>All that said, I suspect you can do the testing you want in one copy of FrameMaker, using the Structured FrameMaker user interface. The structured user interface simply means you can work with structured documents; you can also work with unstructured documents. Each document is independently structured or unstructured; in fact, each flow is independently structured or unstructured. You might therefore consider using the structured user interface and opening one structured and one unstructured document in a single copy of FrameMaker. Is there a way to make several threads guaranteedly do something at exactly the same time? The code below creates two identical Random objects with approximately 90% probability, in 10% cases Random's are different (Random constructor takes current system time as its argument). But how to ensure it 100%?

and even if the PC has multiple processors you are still not guaranteed that it will run the seperate threads at the same exact moment. The JVM for the platform would have to be optomized to make use of multiprocessors for starters, and even if it is it still doesn't guarantee it, the way the OS handles applications (i.e. the JVM) and the way the JVM handles multithreads all will have implications on whether or not two threads actually truly run simultaniously.

Capability to run external NFC usb + power at the same time for A1-07

Is it possible to run an external NFC reader via USB into the tablet plus keep the tablet plugged-in at the same time? We are planning to use a Y cable, but the real issue is whether the tablet h/w or s/w will allow or block this capability. Some other 7 inch tablets (eg Samsung, Asus) block this capability while others allow this.

Are you talking about developing code on multiple machines or just running programs? If you build your applications into an executable you can deploy those to any machine without buying anything else. If you need the full development environment on each machine but will not be doing development on them look for something called a Debug License.

Running windows and OS 10 at the same time.

I am going to order a new iMac. I want to be able to have windows and Mac running at the same time. I will be using two monitors. My question is would I be better to order more ram, or the fastest processor to optimize the performance? My brother has a mac book pro running parallels, he says that it works or but is quite slow. Any help before I order my new iMac would be appreciated.

More RAM would speed things up more when handeling multiple applications at the same time.

Sorry to disappoint but the iPod touch as much as the Iphone 3Gs, cannot peform several task at once( something call background proceessing or multitasking). Somehow apple tends to stay a bit behind in things like allowing the iPod touch to do multitasking specially allowing apps to run on the background. Even though other mobile devices like the palm pre, google android, and other phones do that without any difficulty in peforming those tasks. But let's hope that apple fixes these lacking feature in future software updates... Cause it's time apple to allow for the iPod touch to run applications on the background, if they want to stay in top of technology.

Can't run wiki and web services at the same time?

I'm a newbie with Lion Server, but I've been running several web sites successfully for about 6 months. I'm up to Server 10.7.4.
I've been trying ever since the first installation of Server to get the wiki service running. I had absolutely no luck until I turned OFF the web service (always got the "URL does not exist" error when I tried to create a group wiki from inside the Server app). With the web service off, it all starts up fine and I created my first wiki (woohoo). Turning web service back on kills access to the wiki. I don't find reference to this in any of the dicussions, and especially not in Apple's documentation.
Are the Wiki and Web services mutually exclusive? Or is there a way around this?
I'm using Dyndns to provide me with sub-domains to use, and I've dedicated one of them to the wiki service. Traffic comes in on port 8080, where my web sites are on port 80.

LR supports tethering using a Canon DLL and EOS Utility probably also supports tethering or at least uses something from a similar Canon DLL. You probably cannot have two different versions of that DLL loaded at the same time, so it makes sense there are problems.

Hacking iPhoto, running multiple instances of iPhoto at the same time.

Inspired by Locking Photo Album ... I'm looking for a way to open two iPhoto library folders simultaneously.
1. Copy iPhoto
2. edit /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Info.plist
CFBundleIdentifier com.apple.The Second iPhototo obtain a second preference file
3. Configure iPhoto 1 to use the first library and iPhoto 2 accordingly.
Unfortunately, iPhoto prevents you from launching two apps at the same time:
Caution: iPhoto is already running, Only one copy can be running at a time.
So how can we disable that kind of limitation?
Launching /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto via Terminal doesn't work either.

well it is possible, and it is the best solution, but as a side note, to get X applications running as another user you need to:

if you want to run something as root the prefered way to do this in kde is to use kdesu..
