Will iWork / Numbers ever get updated to '12 or '13?

We're still on Numbers '09 and Apple just had another event which did not announce anything for iWork!
Numbers has been updated for iCloud and Retina, but the core functionality has not been touched in year.
The UI needs a total overall.  The number of keystrokes required to basic things (e.g., add a border) compared to Excel is horrible.  The UI constantly wants to change row size when I'm trying to select a cell.  Formula entry with the cursor is very challenging.  There is no way to get stock quotes directly into Numbers.  The list goes on and on.
Excel for Windows is still so far superior so I have to keep running parallels.  This is 2012, time for Apple to produce a decent spreadshet!

Hi Boat Guy,
As Peggy mentioned while I was re-reading teh terms of use, Apple does not actively monitor these forums, and Apple employees generally do not post here. Monitoring that is done is almost entirely concerned with compliance with the terms of use.
You might want to take a look at these again, with particular attention to section 2, regarding submissions. There's a link at the bottom of most (all?) windows, or you could simply click this one: Apple Support Communities Terms of Use

  • Will iWork apps ever be updated for Apple's 'Open In...' API?

I use Apple's 'Open In...' feature from DropBox to send documents to Pages/Numbers.  Then, Apple doesn't support their own 'Open In...' API feature to send back to DropBox, Adobe or other.
Feedback submitted at apple.com/feedback but still =(
So I email edited documents to myself, and then from Mail.app open back into DropBox.  So unnecessary.
Really?  Or am I missing something.

    1) I don't use drop box, does it actually open numbers files? Or just store them? If its storing them, then open in would not make sense.
    2) You would have to make a good business case for apple to want to open their proprietary iWork formats in other competitors applications for editing. They want you to use their app to do it.

  • Please help! Will iWorks Numbers work with XLS or Excel Spreadsheets

A friend of mine wants me to make her a spreadsheet and I use a PC with MS Office Excel. My question is... Will she be able to use and view a .xls spreadsheet on her new Mac? She has either Iworks Numbers 2008 or 2009. I'm not absolutely sure. I know it's a new computer. The spreadsheet will be fairly basic and the formulas will be simple addings for misc. expenses.
Please let me know if this will work.

Thanks! The spreadsheet I made is a basic list for expenses that automatically adds the entered amounts in each column to sum up the individual expense. I also have a column on the right that adds the amounts entered in each row. Lastly I have one cell which provides a grand total of all expenses combined.
From your reply I'm afraid I will have to make a road trip. As my friend lives quite a distance from me. I was hoping to simply create and email the Excel file to her. With my formulas to you think they will conflict with Iworks Numbers? How much different is Mac Numbers to Excel? I have never seen or used it. The formulas I used are simple =SUM(X:X)formulas and the first calculating cell I have set is not A1 but D4 etc.
I'm sorry to have so much to ask but will the layout stay the same and what will happen to any protection settings I set?
Thanks again for all your time and help to everyone who replied! It's much appreciated!

  • Will the playbook ever get Native email? What about Android Apps?

I was told the bridge was just to be a temporary fix until native email would be compatible on the playbook. Does anyone know if this will ever happen?
I was also told we'd get to download android apps eventually. This also hasn't happened. Does anyone know if this will ever happen?
    Thanks

The Co-CEO of RIM stated very clearly at BlackBerry World Conference that an on-device PIM was coming, within 90 days or end of summer, I don't recall which, as well as promised an Android app player(and Angry Birds for the Playbook!). So far, none of the three have been delivered.
    Waiting with you.

  • Will iWeb application ever be updated ?  Alternatives ?

What a nice application!      Today for the first time I was able to publish a five page website in just ten minutes without reading any documentation.  Will Apple ever update this iWeb ?
If not, what is an alternative application the same or better than iWeb so one can FTP to a hosting website ?

No, I have not ever used Rage Webhosting, but I have used the product EverWeb with another host.
I think the reason that EverWeb was offered with Rage Software hosting was so that things worked better on their host as opposed to others - it was meant to be along the lines of iWeb and MobileMe hosting - so things like blog comments would only work if the site was hosted on MobileMe etc, however, I believe the Rage had a change of heart, so at first the contact form would not work on anything other than their own hosting, but they soon changed this.
Anyway, there is nothing to stop you going with GoDaddy or Blue Host - they may offer more benefits than Rage.  I current have hosting with GoDaddy, Siteground and 1and1 and have uploaded an EverWeb site with Cyberduck with no problems at all.
The reason that I have used others hosts is so that I can change the platform that I use if I want to and GoDaddy, Siteground and 1and1 all support the CMS's like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla, which I have currently been using - Drupal is my favourite at present.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to go with.
Other software worth taking a look at and that had come out with new editions very recently are Freeway Pro/Expresss 7 and Flux V.  Perhaps a steeper learning curve though.

  • Will the Studio ever be Updated?

Since Final Cut Studio X came out, I personally have not seen it in action, but most of the reviews say is not as good as it's predesesor, most of the feedbackI have found complains about getting a PRO software for editing and making it Home use basically, most of the feedback I've seen says they will switch to Adobe Premier, which I personally have not used since FC is one of the best suites I have used. As codecs and video changes, will FCP 7 be the last of it's kind? will we all have to switch to premiere?

OK...doesn't work at all for NETWORK television and feature films.  You won't see RAISING HOPE or CRIMINAL MINDS edited with FCX.  I highly doubt you will see any reality shows, any narrative shows on ANY network, documentaries (or reality) on History, Discovery or National Geographic edited with FCX.  MAJOR NATIONAL networks Ben...not local TV.
FCX is a very closed environment, and major productions require workflows that include sound mixing outside of the editing application...FCX doesn't allow for that.  Not even with the update.
Local TV can fiddle with it all it wants, but high end network shows, high end and mid-range cable programming (many of whom used FCP 7) won't be adopting FCX anytime soon. It simply doesn't do what we need done.  And the key to that is TRACKLESS editing that some engineer at Apple seemed to think was old, a thing of the past, and useless.  Far from it.
Output to tape...and capture from tape...is still a BIG part of network and cable workflows. Many places (Discovery, History, E!) still require tape as a deliverable.  Apple for some reason thinks they shouldn't be bothered with having to include that, so they leave that to third party vendors.  Oh, but we need split track audio mixes.  ROLES...sorry, weak attempt to fix this.  I need to output a stereo mix, a Mix minus music, Music, SFX, Narration...all at the same time.  And the sound mix done by a professional mixer.  FCX doesn't allow for that.
SO...if you want to find work on network TV, cable TV shows...documentary, narrative, reality shows...national networks...or feature film....AVID is the main choice to go with.  Premiere Pro is making in-roads, and might be the software that replaces most of the FCP 7 setups companies have.
Sorry Ben...you are in that vast pool of low end users that love FCX.  But those of us in the very small 2% who do what the country watches on cable...find FCX lacking pretty severely.  And you won't find it in use here anytime soon.

  • HT5219 Will the thunderbolt ever be updated so 2 TB displays can be ran on bootcamp?

    Will this ever be possible???

Nobody can answer that question, we will have to wait for Apple to announce.

  • Will iBook Author ever be updated?

Seems like the app has not been updated regularly?

APPLE do things to aid themselves....not other online  publishing outlets or  makers of Phablets or craplets.
IF you want your books on other outlets... you need to use the software that will enable you to  do that.  QuarkExpress, inDesign, even Pages and there is Blurb and others similar.
Many users of iBA also use these to create/duplicate/replicate whatever they do using iBA to publish to other outlets. Apple does not have a problem with that or where its millions of self publishers  go to  publish their other versions.
Apple created iBA to make  books for iPads and now Macs with iBooks  installed thats it.   Apple  will update iBA IF they  develop something new.. maybe  a few widgets or other innovations - but going off history, I am not going to anticipate anything new.  That said none of us know what it going to be new after the next Keynote  to for the iPhone - talk is of new iPads and soon to be a new OS..... maybe  with bigger screens.... Apple may allow ibooks to accept  made bu iBA  books.

  • Will the iphone ever get bigger in size

I ve had the iphone 3gs, and now the 4s.  I love the phone and how smooth and reliable it is, but my hands are getting way to small for this phone. my thumbs are cramping up. I guess you can compare to being SHAQ using an iphone. thats how small it is..Im sorry to say Apple but I love the imacs, macbook pros, etc but My contract is up with Sprint in July next year and If the iphone doesn get bigger in size as in "Samsung Galaxy S ll or lll" then Im switching over regardless of how many people say the iphone is reliable etc..My hands are too small...APPLE PLEEEAAASE make the uphone as big as the Samsung Galaxy S ll or lll...I mean you guys were the leaders when it first came out and now you are falling behind...PLEASE MAKE IT BIGGER

We are all just users of Apple products just like you.  Nobody here can possibly know what Apple plans for future products.
And if it gets much bigger than the current iPhone 5, I would be one user who would not be pleased.  I looked at those Samsungs and some larger phones when upgrading to my iPhone 5.  Those things are ridiculously large for what is still, as its primary base function, a cellular phone.  I do not want to have to carry around some humungous tablet sized device with me as my phone (and my iPhone is my only telephone, has been since the 3Gs).
But, that is why choice is good too - find the device that best fits your needs or wants and go with that.  It would be horrible if all smart phones were done as one size fits all - everybody would be unhappy then.

  • Will Apple TV ever get an iTunes Music app loaded on its feature list?

Does Apple plan to add an iTunes Music app on its featured list of programs like NetFlix?
I know one can access Movies through iTunes for purchase or rent, but currently there is not one for purchasing music through iTunes using your Apple TV device.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    1) No.
    2) No.

  • Will itunes uk ever get US tv programmes if not is there any way to purchase from itunes US

was looking through itunes US is there any way to purchase tv programmes from there

    1. Only if whoever holds the copyright to them in the UK allows Apple to make those programs available.
    2. Not without travelling to the US and supplying a payment method valid there.

  • How will Netflix get Updated on my Apple TV

I have a Netflix account and have the App on my iPad and if course, my ATV.  So I had an update for Netflix on my iPad.  Installed that and went to check Software Update on my ATV and there is not one for Netflix.  I'm wondering how or if Netflix will ever get updated on my ATV.  I liked the enhancements for Netflix listed on the update for it on my iPad.

IF it's an ATV 1, I think you have to jail break it.  On ATV2, it's automatic when setup.  At least it was on mine.

  • Will iOS 6.1.3 on the iPod Touch 4th generation ever get a software update for the iPod Touch 4th Generation

Will iOS 6.1.3 on the iPod Touch 4th generation ever get a software update

    Not likely
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

What is the latest update available for Mac OSX 10.5.8 that will allow me to get the latest update for iTunes.  I really need to update my iPhone and CAN'T!!  GRRRR!!!

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
