Will kotor (knights of the old republic) play on my macbook pro?

my old laptop finally died and i was mainly looking for a place to store my itunes library, mainly use my ipad for work, games, mail and facebook of course.  so when i need a new laptop i figured i'd try a mac.   so not too concerned with its capabilities i bought a 13" macbook pro 2.4, late 2011.  i didn't realize there was a mac app store and was pleasantly suprised to see one of my old favorites (kotor) on the app store.   however, im not entirely computer literate and i am not sure if it will run on my macbook.   so if someone could help me figure this out i would appreciate it
my macbook pro specs:
MacBook Pro
13-inch, late 2011
Processor 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50d)
thanks in advance.

Templeton's the Man.
Word of warning to save you from surprises. The 13" MBPs have Shared Video Memory. This means that the main memory is used both for holding all the programs you are running at any given time, the files those programs may be working on, AND the space needed for storing all that's being displayed on the screen. Plus, the Core i5 processor and the graphics processor have to take turns at getting to all that information. This means that although games will run on that computer, if they are very graphics intensive, performance may be less than expected. Because of this and since you are using Lion 10.7.3, it may be advantageous to upgrade the memory to 8GB. Upgrade kits from reputable RAM suppliers like Corsair, Kingston, etc.,run the range of $45 to $60.

  • Knights of the Old Republic slow in 10.4.4

Ok, ever since I've updated to Mac OS X 10.4.4, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been running extremely slow to the point were it's impossible to play. Does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening? Everything else on my computer is running pretty much just like it used to before the 10.4.4 update. Please, help me.

where do you keep the program?
if you keep it in the Application folder move it to the top level.
from the finder click on your hard-drive and create a folder I call mine "Games"
move KOR to the new folder.
since this was recommend to me I moved all my games there and haven't had a problem.
after you move KOR run a App like Disk Warrior, and repair permissions from your install disk.

  • Gaming - Knights of the Old Republic Windows XP or Mac Edition (Aspyr)

    Hi,
We just got the new Macbook Pro 2.4 GHZ, with the NVidia 9600 GT. I've successfully installed Windows XP Boot Camp. Being an old Windows user, though, I would love to play some old games, like KOTOR 1 and 2, Warcraft III and Silent Hunter III and IV, and perhaps the upcoming Starcraft 2 and Diablo III.
However, I had a question. Would those games run in Bootcamp? Is there a site on the Internet that deals with Boot Camp gaming? Finally, would I be better to get KOTOR 1 for Mac or get both KOTOR 1 and 2 for Windows? I've read that KOTOR 1 for Mac is still not Universal Binary, and this may cause problems.
Anyway, any advice regarding this would be appreciated. Finally, I have yet to download any Windows Updates, and was wondering if any are really worth it or I should just stick with SP 2 and DX 9.0C?
    Thanks!

All AV programs have their pros and cons. I'm running McAfee VirusScan V8.5i but that choice was dictated only by the fact that I'm covered by a corporate license.
    I'd also recommend:
The free malware sweeper Spybot Search & Destroy to supplement whatever AV you're going to run:
    http://www.spybot.com/en/spybotsd/index.html
Paragon NTFS, to give you read/write access to your Windows partition from your OSX desktop:
    http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
MediaFour MacDrive to give you read/write access to all your Mac formatted volumes (inc HDD's CD's DVD Roms, iPods etc) from your Windows Desktop.
    http://www.media4.com/products/macdrive/
Neither of the last two are essential, but they do make life a lot easier.

  • Star wars Knights of the old republic

Yeah, so I have the game and everything and I'm on a MacBook Pro and I can't figure out how to move my character around? All of the settings are on default. The game runs perfectly I just can't figure it out. Thanks!

Hi, I was thinking of buying this, but there is nothing to tell you how it works, and what the controls are like.  Obviously you figured it out, but you could tell me before I buy it?  Is it mostly on the keyboard?  Does it need a mouse?  Is it possible to use an XBox controller with it?

  • How do I lighten the movies I play on my macbook pro?

I need to find a way to brighten the movies that play on my laptop.
they mostly get played by the dvd player or they stream in, and either
way, they are too dark; even after I adjust the system pref for brightness
and move the slider up to the brightest point.
Please let me know asap. thanks, Linda

Which program are you using to play these videos on your mac? I would advise VLC. It works the best. and there is a way to brighten the video if you hit command + E.

  • Running windows 7 to play Star Wars the old republic

I recently bought Star Wars The Old Republic MMO and wanted to play it on my Mac Book Pro [I do not have the current gen. MBP being sold I have the model previous]
I went out to my local apple store and bought parallels deskdop 7 after reading the reviews on it. [~$80]
I then went out and purchased windows 7 [~$200]
    Installed both.....
and im told that my mac does not have enough processing power to play the game?  I used to play world of warcraft on it with no problem.  Should I buy a different program that runs windows 7 solo so Im not splitting up my processing power? Or will I just not have the ability to play this game on this mac?
Have anyone else come across any similar issues or tried to do the same?
When I attempt to play the game the game window will not stretch to fill the entire screen, it drops down to a smaller window which isnt large enough to effectively play the new game.
    Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
    Thanks!

Ask your question in the Boot Camp forum.  Alternatively, you should contact Parallels.  This forum is to discuss the MacBook Pro hardware, not how to set up a game.

  • Anyone played Star Wars: The Old Republic on Macbook pro 13 inch?

Just wondered if anyone had played Star Wars The Old Republic on the 13 inch MBP. Im considering buying the new 13 inch, 2.9ghz i7, but not sure about Intel HD 4000, has anyone had much success with the Intel HD 3000 on previous model. Im guessing bootcamp is the best way to play it.
    Thanks

  • If I download iTunes 10, will my songs on the old iTune be lost?

If I download iTunes 10, will my songs on the old iTunes be lost?

No, iTunes updates do not delete data. But to play it safe, at least backup your "iTunes Library.itl" file, which is your iTunes library. This file, and all your media files, should be on a daily backup routine to ensure you don't lose things when bad things happen.

I had an unauthorized purchase on my old apple ID so I created a new one since the old one had been deactivated and now I cannot update any of my apps, I have read that the apps will be tied to the old account but since the old one was deactivated I cant update them and I do not want to delete/lose their data, re download, and start all over again. Is there anyway to go around this issue?
    thanks

Ask Apple to re-enable it. I had an unauthorized purchase last October. They disabled my account until the problem was solved. However, I asked them to reopen it, and they just asked me to provide some security information (billing address, a recent purchase you made, etc.), and then they re-enabled it.

  • I created a iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DVD RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?

I created an iMovie with photos, music and titles; shared it with the media browser and burned it on a DV+RDL. The disc will play on my MacBook Pro, but it will not play on my Samsung Blu-ray Disc Player or a smaller portable DVD player. Why?

Probably because they don't accept that media.
Try using Verbatim DVD+DL (if your project exceeds 2 hours) or Verbatim DVD-R if it doesn't.

  • Star Wars: The Old Republic

Just to say, I think we in the apple community should push apple and the makers of star wars the old republic to make there games able to run on Mac OS. I know for a fact that any macbook and macbook pro from 2010 and up can easily run the game nativly and probably much better since it's a mac!

If in settings, music, volume limit is off then restart your phone first. Hold the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up.

No eSATA to USB. Just a SATA/IDE to USB adapter. Google SATA/IDE to USB adapter and you will get tons of links to buy them. Most likely your local computer electronics store has them, although they might be more expensive buying locally than online.
I have several. You can get either USB 2, which what I recommend, or USB 3. USB is backward compatible so a USB 3 adapter will work on a USB 2 port and a USB 2 adapter will work on a USB 3 port. Backward compatible in both directions.
I suggest a USB 2 type because there have been some problems with certain USB 3 devices, the USB 3 interface used isn't all that good in those certain devices. USB 3 is still fairly new where as USB 2 has been around for over 10 years.

At the apple store they said I needed an esata to usb wire.  But looking at wires on line has been confusing.  Is sata the same as esata?  How do I know if I need a usb 3 or usb 2?

I recorded VCR tape onto DVD-R but will not play on my MacBook Pro. I have already recorded multiple DVDs. How can I get it to play on my Mac?

"I recorded VCR tape onto DVD-R"
    How? Using what equipment/software?
"The DVD  plays on the device on which it was recorded."
Just a guess: You're using a VCR-DVD combo recorder. DVDs produced in this way will play on the device that made them, but won't play on anything else until they're "finalized." In fact, Macs will recognize unfinalized DVDs as blank discs until the discs are finalized. Check the manual that came with the recording device for instructions.
