Will latest Media Player work on updated iMac 350?

I've bought a 120 gig Seagate 7200 speed HD, 512 megs more ram, and a retail version of Panther to upgrade my mom's iMac. For the most part she will only use Safari, Mail, & put a few digitial camera photos on it to view and store. However, she recently signed up for Netflix movie rentals and currently can't view the media player trailers in OS 9.1 - they don't offer Quicktime trailers (which I've contacted them and requested they please offer Quicktime trailers with no response from Netflix).
Will she be able to view them in Panther if she downloads media player? From the minimum system requirements (like a G3 with 400 or 450 mhz) it at first glance appears she again can't view them; however, the system requirements are "recommended" and I'm wondering with this faster HD and around 640 megs of memory that perhaps it's possible - especially since the Netflix previews are fairly low resolution. Comments/real user experiences with the recent versions of media player on such an older system would be much appreciated.

So you think that the latest Windows media player will work on the iMac 350, it just may stall sometimes.
I know the previous version of Media Player is still avaliable, would it work any better on older machines like the iMac 350?

Itunes worked after reseting my computer to factory setting however had trouble again after syncing my iPod and iPod shuffle. Is this a coincidence or could it be the cause of the problem?

When I insert disc 3 to install it just makes some odd noises and spits the disc out!
Perversly Disc 1 for Windows it reads...

Problems with Windows Media Player for OSX and IMAC G5 Intel Duo

I was able to download Windows Media Player 9 for Mac but when I surf on the net and I click on the WMP files, instead of opening automatically, it downloads the content and only then lets me open it.
Also, with live streaming, when I click for the window to open it will say that: "Some content on this page requires an Internet plug-in that Safari doesn’t support. The application “Windows Media Player” may be able to display this content. Would you like to try?".
Except that I already downladed WMP... It worked fine with the PowerPc G5 so it must be the Intel chip. Please help.

Microsoft has abandoned WMP for the Mac and has ceased development. You may wish to consider and alternative!
WMP 9 for Mac is not a Universal binary, so it does not run natively on Intel iMacs. It runs using Rosetta. If the WMP plugin is installed in HD/Library/Internet Plugins/ for it to run usable by Safari you must be using Safari with Rosetta.
I have two versions of Safari, Safari - Uni & Safari - Rose, Uni runs natively and Rose uses Rosetta. To make a Rose version;
1. Right-click Safari and choose Duplicate
2. Rename the copy whatever you like to tell it from the other; ex: Safari - Rose
3. Right-click Safari - Rose and choose Get Info
4. In the top pane of the Info window check the box Run using Rosetta.
You need to use Safari -Rose for websites with WMP multimedia material to get it to play in the browser.
There are also WMP replacements that you can use with Safari such as Flip4Mac and others. Here is a Discussion that covers many of the alternatives;

Satallite A60-532: Media player crashed - chipset update?

Hello,
Recently i've bought a new MP3-player (scandisk sansa m250), mediaplayer crashed when i wanted to copy mp3's to it.
I went back to the shop and the salesman told me that an update of the chipcet-drivers would fix the problem.
Only problem: How do i get to know the chipset version? And does this fix makes sense to any of you?

I dont think that the chipset update would help to solve you problem.
But the chipset driver is preinstalled on this unit.
If you want to know the chipset so you can check it in the device manager.
The chipset you will find on the intel site.
Generally its not easy to say why it happens. But it seems the new mp3 player is responsible for this issue. Maybe a new driver update will help.
But why you copy the mp3 files with media player? Do it through the explorer.

Media Player works in FF, but not in IE. WHY?

I have placed video file on my home page, and the file works fine with firefox but not in internet explorer. I am not sure why, or how to fix the problem. Also, when I insert the media. I am inserting a plug-in and not dragging a media player object. When I drag, I never get mime, object/embed or class options stately. However, when I insert a plug-in, I get all of those options.
Also, I have been able to view video files only once in IE, and on that time when I looked at the inspector at the window media player, I noticed that it actually stated Windows Media Player as the player (the operation write-in words directly below classid pull down box. The same area where the clss write-in appears after it is chosen)
At this time, it states NONE for player chosen.
Also, I normally use FF as my browser and in the program I only see FF logos for html files --- would it work differently if the program recognized IE only?

I think I figured it out. Looks like the size of the XML file
returned is a factor. I validated my XML file (
http://www.w3schools.com/dom/dom_validate.asp)
to be error free. Then I decided to just show a set of names that
have "chris". EUREKA! The autosuggest worked with a smaller XML
dataset. Then I put the rest of the data back and the autosuggest
stopped working. But Firefox has no problems. Only IE.
There are 569 records in my xml file. Sample record:

Windows media player for my intel imac?

Hi all,
Ok anyone know what I can use to open wmvs on my new imac. Tried down loading wmp9 for mac... no luck. Have downloaded VLC but often it only plays sound on my wmv downloads.
Any other suggestions (Red Dwarf where are you)?

The program Flip4Mac supercedes Windows Media Player support in Mac.
Microsoft decided to help them out rather than continuing support for Windows Media Player.
Looks like it's right between the end of the beta and the final release. So it may be a few days before you can download.

How to make Adobe Media Player work online?

I have Adobe Media Player. When I launched before, I was able to see the content. Nowadays, it showing just blank screen saying "You must be online to view this content" Although JavaScripts already enabled on my safari web browser and my personal firewall is On.
p.s firewall was always On When I was able to see adobe media player content!

The flash add-on is not available for Safari on iOS. Never has been and in fact Adobe has ceased support for flash for mobile devices in general. Your options, depending on the specific sites:
See if the site or sites in question have their own apps availabel in teh app store
Look into some browsers such as Puffin adn iSwifter (there are others, I beleive). These browsers use a third server site to translate the flsh content into a form that the iPAd can use and restreams them to you. They may not work with all content.
Use a computer capable of running flash.
Seek a source of the conent that is designed for non flash use.

I was wondering - I set up my Network Media Player correctly, and am already able to stream files. However, somehow the list of files does not update itself, e.g. after renaming a file - it still shows the old name despite resetting my Windows 7 PC, or turning off and back on of the TV.
Do you have an idea why this is like that? What can I do to change this?

Will an ethernet adapter work on an iMac?

I have tried on numerous occasions to connect my iMac to the internet via an ethernet connection but the following message appears: "Cable Unplugged". I have given up on the ethernet port and would like to know if an ethernet adapter would work on an iMac. All the information that I have read says that the ethernet adapter works on a Mac but nowhere does it mention the iMac.

I went to my local Apple reseller store, explained the situation, and they recommended an ethernet to Thunderbolt adapter. I took it home, installed it and, voila, I now have an (really fast) ethernet connection. The gentlemen at the store told me that the adapter is not for transferring data, only internet access. Will Singapore-market iSight work US-market iMac?

Via eBay, I found new-in-box iSight cameras from a seller in Singapore. The part number is M8817ZP/C instead of M8817LL/C. Will there be any issues using this with my iMac? (I'm sure I can forget about any tech. support.)

They will work fine. The Mnnnn is the model number, anything after that is usually documentation or packaging variations. Z variations are usually international.

Hello. Can anyone tell me how to partition my macbook pro and re-install mavericks?
I have a Western Digital external hard drive which has been set up to perform automatic time machine back ups on connection. This has been happening since before i upgraded to Yosemite.
I would like to partition my macbook pro and re install the Mavericks OS on one half if thats possible?(to extract it from one of my backups)? whilst keeping the Yosemite OS in action...?
I want to do this as my mac has stopped playing dvd's suspiciously soon after upgrading to Yosemite, so i would like to see if works again with mav's...
The dvd's are all legit, the superdrive is clean and has nothing stuck in it.. I've tried a few other things suggested online but they didn't do anything and i don't see an external dvd drive running through vlc as a solution..
I've also seen online that this has happened to a LOT of people. One report was of advice from apple that their super drive was broken only to get it back with the message that it was a software problem after all.
Another report was that after re installing Mav's it worked fine.
So i haven't seen any fixes anywhere and apple don't comment. I'd really like the dvd player to work again on this 1.5 yr old £1200 machine

What specifically is the issue? It won't play DVD movies through the DVD player? Or it spits out the disc when you attempt to read the disc?
If it just won't play movies, that could simply be a glitch with the DVD Player app... if it spits out the disc, that's a different thing entirely. If it's a DVD Player issue, download VLC and then try playing a DVD using VLC. If that works, it's the DVD Player app. It may need to be reinstalled.
