Will LG GGW-H10N bluray burner work in a Mac Pro

Hi,
I read this thread about getting a Pioneer bluray burner to work in a Mac Pro: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5936770&#5936770
Does the same apply for the LG GGW-H10N 4-speed bluray burner? Will it work in my Mac Pro (8 core model)?
Best,
Maarten

"... here, there, samey same..." in a word yes, same applies.

If not the above, then what?

Apple Pro RAID card is not compatible with 3TB drives and never will be it now seems. It also lacks any real performance and is destined where RAID 5 is a must.
SSDs are a more interesting matter in choice and support... but not traditional platter type drives.
I use SSD for system now 100% on multiple systems, 10K WD VR ($200 for 1TB / 180MB/sec and variety of WD blacks and Green.
2008 has some interesting stuff, PCIe mix and support and booting, but more choices in GPU. Runs best with all 8 DIMM slots filled. Was the first to have UEFI to support 64-bit kernel but does not support industry standard enough to support Windows 8 UEFI.
Storage market would be a total mess like it was back in 2004 when SATA 1.0 moved to 2.0 and lots of problems. SATA 1.0 in early G5 was just PATA with an SATA interface chip slapped on and not "native" SATA. THAT is where the "will the IBM Hitachi or Seagate or Maxtor" really did require research. Not with Mac Pro line 2006 and on.

  • Will 1.5Tb or 2Tb works on a Mac Pro

Just out of curiosity, will the newest 1.5 and 2 Tbytes HD works on a Mac Pro ?
The documentation talk about 1Tbyte disks, and up to 4 Tbytes total, but this may just be because that was the available disk size at the time the Mac Pro early 2009 came out ...
    Maurizio

They work perfectly and you'll find those limits documented were simply because the drives weren't available at the time. I have a 1.5Tb Seagate Barracuda in mine and it's perfect.

  • Will Most Windows Peripherals work with the MAC Pro?

Im considering getting a MAC Pro... Unfortunately, I just invested on 2 PCI-E graphics cards (256 MB each)... will they work with the MAC Pro? Will apple sell me a MAC Pro with little options?

Only PCIe cards with EFI type BIOS, so no. They will work in Windows just fine, just not in OS X.
The stock configuration is fine and probably ideal anyway with the Nvidia 7300 GT, though most would recommend Radeon X1900 XT
There is only one 16x lane slot.
you might want to wait until Apple 'refreshes' the one year old Mac Pro line, either in the fall or wait until January MacWorld SF show. (eventually AMDs and Nvidia's latest offerings due later this year have a 99.999% chance of being adopted in some form).

  • Will this hard drive (Seagate ST1500DL003 Barracuda Green Hard Drive) work in a mac pro?

Have a mac pro at my church that has a 500 gb and a 1 tb hard drive but since we do a lot of video editing on it the hard drive fills up fast but was wondering if the Seagate ST1500DL003 Barracuda Green Hard Drive
would work in the mac pro 1,1 just need some more storage and maybe a time machine back-up?

I have seen a lot of change in Green drives and new models, be sure the reason it is cheap is trying to off load and get rid of stock.
Some people have no trouble and use them without issue. External USB for TimeMachine can result in the drive parking and OS X and TimeMachine losing communicating. While others have used them even in arrays inside w/o trouble.
3TB Green has been popular. I've only used 1 and 1.5TB though.

  • Has anybody gotten a RocketRAID 640 working in a Mac Pro?

I have a RocketRAID 640 I purchased, based on the fact that it "had OS X drivers". Unfortunately l'm running into a bit of a snafu here.
The English website (www.highpoint-tech.com) shows for the RR640 drivers that "Mac drivers are available at http://hptmac.com/cn". This is their Chinese website of all places (why, if it has Mac drivers are they not listed on the English site?). I recently was contacted by their tech support, and they appear to be totally clueless why their driver isn't working.
Ya see, the one they link to is this one:
    http://www.hptmac.com/US/productfiles/HPT-Quad-eSATA-mac-v100-100120.dmg
But it's on the Chinese website. Yay?
So here's the issue: The .kext file's info.plist shows an IOPCIPrimaryMatch entry of "6441103". Breaking that down, the 1103 is the Marvell 9128 SATA controller (there are two on the card, oddly at x1 link width). The 644 is the ID of the card the driver is looking for in order to load. In other words, the driver (RR64x.kext), from the installer packaged labeled "RR644M" (for RocketRAID 644 Mac), will only see the RR644, but not the RR640 which I have. Unfortunately, injecting the proper IOPCIPrimaryMatch entry into the .kext file renders the .kext useless as it becomes a file that has "been installed incorrectly and cannot be used", because a user (me) modified it.
Has anybody gotten this card to work in a Mac Pro in OS X (it works fine in Windows on a Mac Pro) other than the inability to use CTRL-H to activate its BIOS configuration utility at bootup)? And if so, what driver are you using?
I've lost three days worth of work/"fun time" to trying to figure this out. I don't know why the card is so hard to get working, since functionally it's identical to the 644, only instead of eSATA ports they're all internal. Even the controllers used are the same, as is the link width of the card itself (but apparently not the firmware?).
I knew HighPoint had ridiculously bad support, but their hardware in general is rock solid (once you get it up and running). I kind of want my Vertex 3s to finally run speedy. I'd really hate to have to get a 6Gbps SAS card instead (and it'd have to be bootable which is EXPENSIVE) in order to plug into my Mac Pro 1,1's SAS cable that it uses to control the four internal HD bays (though that would give the HD bays native 6Gbps speed!).

Highpoint RR Quad eSATA for Mac is sold on Apple Store
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1113LL/A
with 4 favorable comments, from one that flashed the firmware for EFI32 to be bootable (odd, as they said they had "Early 2008" which does not jive), a few with 2010 models.
Sonnet, FirmTek or other with 6G PCIe controller IF it does not need to be bootable (you said you wanted that); and, you aren’t going to be pushing for really high performance with a single SSD.

  • Getting Asus ATI 4870 to work in my Mac Pro. Not working. please help!

I read here on these boards that an ATI 4870 would work in an early model (in my case, 2006) Intel Mac Pro.
I jumped in hastily and bought the Asus branded card: EAH4870
I connected it, and nothing... did not work.
I do not think it is a Mac version of this card, perhaps intended to be used in a windows machine.
    Questions:
    - Do I need to "flash: this card to make it work in my Mac Pro OSX 10.6.3?
    - Are there Mac drivers for this card? I can't find anything anywhere
    - Basically, can I get this card to work, or do I need to PAY the extra $$$$ just to have a "Mac" version of this.
Keep in mind, I am not a techie, I need to do Work, not fiddle with this kind of stuff.. unfortunately, a software package crucial for a job is very finicky and works with only a handful of cards.. The 4870 is one of them.
I do not have dual boot, and no windows machines to "flash" or rework this card.
If you can help me to get this card to work, it would be MOST appreciated!!!

It is not a Mac version. It does not have the required EFI boot ROM needed to work on the Mac. Video drivers are contained in OS X. Either you have to have the card flashed (this is illegal) or buy a Mac version of the card.
If you aren't a "techie" then you don't have the hardware needed to flash the ROM nor know how. Because this site belongs to Apple we cannot help you with something that is illegal.

  • What monitor best works with the MAC Pro

I'm thinking of buying a MAC PRO. What Monitor best works with a MAC Pro?

Whatever Monitor you like, exclusively. There are adapters available for everything.
Analog VGA is not a good idea. It's a Digital world. But it can be done if you want.
A TV set is not a Monitor. TV sets are for moving pictures, and may do badly with stable pictures, fine lines, parallel lines, smooth-edged text, and adjacent patches of bright colors.
Wider than 1920 needs special attention to details.

Amazon has the FBDIMMs and at excellent price. Can't say the same for OWC on price or quality really when it comes to those FBDIMMs. OWC 'sometimes' has had a lot of trouble - or people on here with having to go through multiple exchanges with new sets back in 2009-10 plus charge much higher.
They want 3x what I paid for 16GB and they are not even as good let alone better even in support and warranty.
"Came with software" you don't own is what that usually means, not the license and master copy etc.
I keep my 1,1 running and yes dumped a lot $$ into it over the years, probably longer than warranted (did a lot of upgrades in 2013: ATI 5770, Sonnet Tempo, 16GB FBDIMMs) and I keep upgrading and replacing SSDs went from 128GB to 250GB to 500GB and moving some to the Sonnet Tempo SSD.
It does not qualify as 64-bit firmware (EFI32 vs UEFI EFI64) and has lesser PCIe 1.0 and only 1 - 16x, 1 - 8x, 1  - 4x, and 1 - 1x slots. So graphic card in 8x or 16x and your most demanding card. Only the lower slot is double-wide for most any graphic card.
Lion stopped getting security updates last month too, and some software more and more requires 10.8 or above. There are ways to force those to run on 2006, might be fun if you have the mind set of a programmer or like to fiddle with operating systems.
I already pointed to Amazon and brand and mentioned those keep to 59*C and have them in mine for nearly two years.
I think even with the cost of Windows 8.1 license I assembled (already had case and PSU and SSD/HDD) an i7-4771 PC for $800, vs. the cost of upgrades I did in 2013 alone on my Mac Pro which though has stood me well for 8 years. People that already own one feel fine upgrading, and some have replaced processors for 8-core 5355s when that made sense and could use it now that you can find ebay pair for $100 or even less. But Sonnet Tempo Pro etc today? I just wish there was a desktop - 4-core (not dual core), not soldered memory. A step above the Mac-Mini. And a Mac-Mini fully configured costs way too much for my tastes.
