Will Lightroom 4 ever support Nikon's D4S net files? If so is they an idea of the release date?

Will Lightroom 4 ever support Nikon's D4S net files? If so is they an idea of the release date?  I don't mind upgrading to 5 but unfortunately it doesn't work with my OS for Mac and I shouldn't have to upgrade both and don't want to...

Well BAD BAD me... I ASSUMED it worked because I could install it on my mac 10.6 but guess what... 8.3 won't support the D4S files.  I swear I am in a never ending loop of hell.  I really shouldn't have to upgrade my WHOLE operating system AND buy the newest version of Lightroom that I don't need just because I got a new camera. THIS IS CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to butt in. We used to double-shoot, too, but after a couple of years we discovered it was unnecessary when using both Aperture and Lightroom. Your workflow will be different from ours of course, and one does what one needs to do. We found the duplicate images were tedious and, even though they were quite small compared to the NEFs, they occupied a lot of space that was needlessly redundant. The Mac (or PC) is so instantly responsive that the NEF is offered up quickly so the jpg has no real purpose.

  • Will Aperture ever support Nikon or Canon Picture Control settings?

As with many people, I've also run into two issues:
    1) The RAW Picture Control settings used by Nikon don't seem to be supported by Aperture. I've downloaded the latest Camera Raw update (2.4) and yet it still seems that none of the settings get interpreted by Aperture. As a long-standing Aperture user, this is a major issue since it now requires me to import into either ViewNX or Capture NX2 and then transfer them to Aperture. Since I use Photoshop for dodging and burning, I'm beginning to wonder if I should just move to Lightroom.
    2) The highlights seem to get blown out fairly easily when viewed in Aperture. I often seem to have to pull back the highlights on many pictures.
I was wondering if these are still persistent issues that others see as I'd like to consider what reasonable options I have.

Jade, you gave up to easily!!!
I would guess that Nikon makes most of their money from cameras, lenses, nik software and very little from NX software. While NX is fine for small projects, it is way to slow and plodding to be a meaningful workflow product.
But, if Nikon teamed up with Apple so that Aperture could incorporate most of what is in NX under a licensing/royalty agreement, Nikon would sell lots more of their core products, Apple/Nikon software would be come the default workflow processing solution and would set industry standards for digital imaging for the pro. Canon would be forced to follow suit or fall very far behind. Nikon has done a wonderful job in bringing their bodies to leading the pack, they need more work on lens, IMHO, and a meaningful relationship or co development with Apple would seal the third arm of the puzzle.
Consumers, Apple, and Nikon all benefit from such a model. Just have to get to terms that are acceptable and, as typical in these situations, there are too many big egos involved and unwilling to see the forest through the trees.
    Food for thought.....maybe....

  • Does anyone know when Apple will begin to support Nikon's flagship NEFs files, the RAW files generated by the D4s and the D810?

At the time of writing, Aperture, Finder and Preview all report the NEFs files from the D4s and the D810 as unreadable.  I've got to use Adobe's PhotoShop, Lightroom or Camera Raw to do post-production.  I can't even see thumbnails in Finder.  Has anyone heard of Apple addressing this, and a timeframe?  Will the new replacement program for Aperture be able to work with them?

What's even crazier, is when you go to this page: http://support.apple.com/downloads/#aperture the 5.06 one is missing, the 5.07 one downloads a file with 507 in the title, but when try to install it, it says that answer one is already installed.

  • Will Lightroom 4 support custom XMP?

XMP stands for eXtensible Metdadata Platform. Supposedly it is a standard developed by Adobe that permits image metadata not just be locked into one rather limited core set of fields like IPTC, but the design of custom metadata panels that in theory permits the addition of all kind of metadata fields.
Now, that sounds great - in theory...
Here is the catch: If you are not an advanced programmer, there is no way you will ever understand Adobes XMP Toolkit. For us normal earthlings it is essentialy impossible to make use of the X in eXpansible, we won't never be able to get a grips of programming custom metadata schemas ;-(
Worse: to date only Photoshop and Bridge even support custom metadata panels. Lightroom does not (please notice: I am NOT talking about the option to customize existing panels, I am talking about creating entirely new, customized panels!).
Currently there is unfortunately only one single software product on the market that fully supports XMP: IDimager. While IDimager is a great image database program it falls short in comparison to Lightrooms Image Editing/Adjustment/Developing capabilities. Thus it would be great, if Lightroom supported at least importing custom metadata panels created in other applications such as IDimager.
    (specifically this one: http://wiki.idimager.com/index.php?title=DarwinCoreXMP#.27.27.27Darwin_Core_XMP.27.27.27)...

    Hi Cornelia,
unfortunately ALL these plugins have one severe limitation: They are not XMP custom metadata, they are not saved as XMP metadata to the image files themselves!
In fact this ability in lightroom to "create" your own custom panels is quite deceiving and not at all serving the purpose xmp was originally intended for.
The plugin by Rob Cole for example (the one you are referring to) permits you to create your own "custom metadata" in Lightroom, yet those metadata are NOT saved as XMP. Instead you have to manually backup the data, a rather cumbersome procedure, prone to data loss.
What is great about XMP is the ability to write metadata diretly into an image file. This way they always stay within the image metadata itself and are never lost. You open that file in another program or exchange it with someone else and there is the metadata - residing inside the file itself.
Now, why do I find custom metadata useful? Are there not enough xmp fields already?
I have been using an xmp implementation of the DarwinCore to manage metadata about photos of Natural History Collections, names of species for example, the genus, family, order, collection data where a specimen was collected, etc...
Although a standard for this kind of metadata already exists (i.e., the DarwinCore) this standard is unfortunately not generally available as XMP for image management. Thus, I  made up a DarwinCore implementation of XMP in IDimager (http://wiki.idimager.com/index.php?title=DarwinCoreXMP#.27.27.27Darwin_Core_XMP.27.27.27) and it would be great to be able to use it also in Lightroom (at least be able to read it, better yet also write to those fields). In Photoshop and Bridge I can at least see that information, sadly though Lightroom does not even support reading custom XMP...

  • When will Adobe release the update to support Nikon Df raw/NEF file?

when will Adobe release the Lightroom update to support Nikon Df raw/NEF file?

In the mean time, or if it doesn't make it into LR 5.3 and you like techy stuff, see http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/52616096 for how to patch the exif of Df NEFs to look like D4 NEFs, as the presumption is that the sensor is identical.
Warning: take note of the advice in that thread to make backups of your NEFs first.  Second warning: read the whole thread.  In the first post he says Exiftool when he means Exifchanger.

  • Does Lightroom 3 support Nikon D800 Camera RAW

No, you can either upgrade to LR4 or use Adobe's free DNG Converter to work with your images in LR3 as DNGs.

  • When will Lightroom 4 support tethering for Canon EOS 6D?

    Hi, all...
The Canon 6D is not in the current list of supported cameras for tethering in Lightroom. When will Lightroom 4 support tethering for Canon EOS 6D?
    Thanks
    Steve

To be clear: Lightroom 4.3 now supports Canon 6D Raw files
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/12/lightroom-4-3-now-available.html
Lightroom still does not yet support tethering for Canon 6D

  • Will iBooks ever support Adobe DRM?

I quite often want to read books that are not available in the UK iBookstore. These books are almost always available from another UK publisher in ePub format, but with Adobe DRM. So I now use another ebook reader app that supports Adobe DRM.
The other library is now bigger than the one in iBooks and I have transferred all my non-DRM ebooks and .pdfs into it too. I keep iBooks going for my iBookstore purchases, but I mostly use the new reader. This is a shame. I found iBooks and the iBookstore really easy to use, and the integration with my Apple ID and backup on sync really convenient.
Will iBooks ever support Adobe DRM so that I can go back to keeping everything in iBooks?

Not a question anyone here would be able to answer. You can give Apple your feed back.

  • Will apple ever support flac already?

    Hi,
Apple - Will you ever support flac on iTunes? Audiophiles would like to use this format with iTunes / iPod. I don't need to explain my case, its not competition, just a different popular format.
    Thanks.

This is a user-to-user forum, and you aren't talking to Apple here. Apple don't announce their future plans, and I'm afraid no-one on here would have any information on this.
You can send feedback to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html - you won't get a response but they do read all submissions.

  • Will apple ever support blue tooth 4

will apple ever support blue tooth 4

Then you would need to add newer hardware to your older Mac
    http://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-Bluetooth-Micro-Adapter-GBU521/dp/B007GFX0PY#
You cannot magically support features on hardware that was not built with them. The actual wires and chips need to have the features.  You need a newer BT chip.

  • When will Lightroom be supporting UHD/4K Displays (Win.)

    Simple question (Windows!)
    - When will Lightroom be supporting UHD/4K Displays and support HighDPI modes?
    - its a Nightmare to use it on a Dell UP2414Q without Font adjustment
    - I only use Lightroom but its seems this problem exists on any Adobe App. (Photoshop .... etc..)
    Thanks

Yes I have tested that the different font sizes do actually work. Who told you that they don't?
This is my normal display on a 1920x1200 monitor:
And this is the same display using the 150% font setting:

Only the Developers of the Whatsapp application can answer that.
They are the ones that chose to not make Whatsapp available for iPad, and only they know why they did it.

I doubt it. Mozilla uses Gecko, and I doubt if that will change.
