Will Lightroom stay a stand alone product?

I have to say that I am very disappointed with the whole CC concept. Actually that is not quite true I don't mind if a company wants to offer a subscription service - I just don't want my software that way. I have no desire to pay for software as a subscription. I want to buy the products I want and have the right to use them for as long as I want. So, the fact that Adobe is going to stop offering upgrades to Photoshop as stand alone product is disappointing and means I will be staying with CS5.
But more importantly if the plan is to make Lightroom available only as a subscription then I need to start planning a transition now. I realize Lightroom is currently going to be sold as a stand alone product. I am worried about the future. Can Adobe make some kind of statement about their intentions? I get that they cannot predict the far future but I would like some indication that the sky is not going to fall next year.

I agree with the Op and Mr Electron et al.
Remember Adobe is primarily a marketing company these days, with LR, CS et al their product. What (you might think) Adobe says today does not always match what Adobe will do tomorrow.
I have spent quite a lot of money on LR and Photoshop/CS over the last 10-12 years, not missing a release, keen to upgrade as early as possible (including Betas). But that has been at my time of choosing & if/when I felt I could afford it or felt the software was at a stable enough level because you can't accuse Adobe of going over board on releasing bug-free or even bug-lite software. (The thought of frequent update from Adobe is actually quite scary, all that time spent sorting the mess out ! )
But I have absolutely no desire to, and WILL NOT, use a subscription service/ cloud for this software be it CS or LR.
It definitely looks to me that its the way they're moving. I feel this way because it not just about what they say its about what they don't say. They are not saying it will not happen, only that no decision has been made - which could easily be deferred final decision until feedback on CS changes have had time to be measure. It quite legitimate (business-sense) marketing approach. It means you can give an honest answer - 'not in the foreseeable future, no decision taken' - whilst still knowing with almost certainty what the decision will be.
So, as I've 30,000 or so photos, I'm starting now to look at the alternatives, as even with such a modest number it will still take time to work out how easiest (and cheapest) to transfer to something else. And also to come to terms with what I will lose. But better now than when I have 40,000 or 50,000 photos.

Using Lightroom 5 as stand alone to convert RAW, then save to CS2?

I am a professional photographer, and I am perfectly happy with my CS2 version of Photoshop, as I can get it to do everything I need, without spending another $600 on the newest version.

Yes, you can do that. You can designate Photoshop CS2 as your external editor. When you choose to edit in Photoshop you will receive a warning that camera raw is out of date, and you can choose to render a copy with Lightroom adjustments. You can configure Lightroom so that the copy will either be a PSD or TIF image. I think most people prefer TIF. Then you can instruct Lightroom not to show that option anymore. From that point forward any time you choose to edit in Photoshop Lightroom will create the TIF image and pass it on. When you save the changes in Photoshop those changes will be reflected in the TIF image that is in the Lightroom catalog.

Compressor as Stand Alone Product

Can you use Apple Compressor as a stand alone product without purchasing Final Cut Pro X?
I would like to use it to convert MTS files to a useable format for iMovie and Final Cut Pro Express.

To add to Russ. I second that you would most likely have to buy clipwrap ino order to get them to a quicktime format that compressor could see. But ClipWrap will also do conversions for you. I know it will let me convert to pro-res but if you don't have a version of FCP that might not be availble but it does have Apple Intermidiate Codec which works just fine in iMovie and Final Cut Express. So to answer your question, yes it works as a stand alone app and great at doing its thing as long as quicktime can play the file your trying to convert. But for the type of files you want to convert you need to use ClipWrap and since it will do the converson for you, you don't have to have Compressor. Now Compressor will give you more control of your final output but start with ClipWrap see if it get the job done for you. If your happy great! If you need more control then purchace Compressor.

AS it stands now, in order to use the calculator that comes with the Dashboard, you cannot read from a list of numbers in, lets say, word or excel. The dashboard is full screen and nothing can stand along side it. Is there a way to get the calculator from the dashboard to appear along with other programs? Hi....I'm a SAP ABAP developer and new to SAP HCM...I want to know if is possible to implement SAP HCM module as a stand alone product without implement FI-CO modules or without having interfaces to another SAP ERP system, my client only need a HR system, they already have and are comfortable with their current systems.....Where can I found information about SAP HCM stand alone implementation if this case is achievable.

There are other mail programs available. Including the built in mail program. Why do you need outlook.

Aggregator as a stand-alone product?

Does anyone know if the Aggregator for Captivate is available as a stand-alone product? I have Cap 5.5 with a mulitiple sco project. I do not have the e-learning suite so I cannot aggregate internally and I do not have Captivate 4, which has the aggregator. Any suggestions?

I am on record as stating that I thought this tool should have remained a default part of the Captivate installation (as it was before Cp5x). However, that's Adobe's prerogative.
If you do not have access to Multi-SCORM Packager, Google for information about RELOAD Editor. That might provide an alternative solution.

Using Oracle iStore 11i as a stand-alone product

Our questions is: Do you need to have the entire back-end database in place in order to use the iStore or can you configure iStore as "stand-alone" product? The standalone version doesn't use Creative Cloud features, so if you don't want the cloud just get the standalone version.
Note that if you want to sync your Lightroom desktop images to Lightroom on an iPad or iPhone (or the Android versions coming later), then a Creative Cloud subscription would be required.

Installing cc when I already own stand alone products??

I am needing to get Illustrator and In Design. Rather than subscribe 2 single apps, I am considering getting the entire CC suite. I already own the stand alone versions of Acrobat XI and Lightroom 5, and I see they are included in CC suite. My question is this: If I get CC will my perpetual licenses still be good for the Acrobat and Lightroom, or does everything revert to the CC subscription? Reason I ask is because I work for a small company that doesn't upgrade regularly and after 1 year may or may not renew the CC subscription for the 2 products I'm interested in....but I most definitely need to keep the Acrobat and Lightroom. Would I lose those if the CC subscription ended?

You will not loose any of your stand alone owned products which you have. Even if you do not renew your Creative Cloud membership after an year you can anytime download Acrobat 11 and Lightroom 5 and use your serial key to activate the product.

opdesigns: It is the upgrade which you can get for $79. However, the upgrade will only work if you have a valid licence key for your previous version. Will Adobe stand alone products work on a surface pro 3?(non cloud)

Looking at buying my wife a new computer and she thinks she wants a tablet, just wondering what options will work, still have an unused license key as well as the one she is currently using(she has photoshop, illlustrator). I am not in design and know nothing about the products other than I've seen them in use on her laptop.

We've seen nothing but issues trying to use Surface 3 with software. All came down to the use of their N-trig pen.
I'll divide the issues up:
-some programs flat out refused to recognise the pen driver
-some programs didn't recognise the size of the active area, meaning, when you put your pen down, your cursor actually appears at an offset
-some programs refused to recognise pressure sensitivity
-some of the programs that did recognise pressure sensitivity, did so poorly, since the pen only has 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, and is set up to work with wacom pens that have exponentially more, it clips those 256 levels down....so 256 ..which should be the most pressure, becomes a low pressure because the program thinks there should be more levels, it clips your pressure range, which makes it unusable
-custom software didn't work nearly as well because of bugs in the N-trig driver, some of them have been resolved, some have not
Do with this info as you wish, our experience has been horrible.

I am unable to download Photoshop Elements 13. Is it a stand alone product or do I have to have another program to use it?

I purchased PSE 13 and I have not been successful at downloading and installing. After 3 days of downloading I have at a couple of points thought I was on the right track when it asked what would I like to open it with or that I had not installed it all. I'm sick of it. Yes, that is the correct file that you have there, It is one of the 2 files(.exe and .7z) that is available for download under your Adobe account, once you have downloaded the second file(The file name of the second file will be PhotoshopElements_13_LS25_win64.exe ), keep both of them together under a folder, and run the .exe file.
It should start extracting the files needed to install the product and create a folder called Adobe photoshop Elements 13 in the desktop.
Go to the desktop and open that folder, and run the setup.exe file to start the installation.
