Will Lion install require me to redo my bootcamp partition?

Dear all,
I work at a university that has little support for Macs and so the Bootcamp partition is where I spend my working days. (OSX bliss is for evenings only!). Before the nay sayers pipe up, we also develop PC software and so I need Windows 7. I would like to install Lion but setting up a new Bootcamp partition is a no no for me as it requires an IT technitiian to spend ages setting everything back up for work.
Will it be possible to install LION keeping the Bootcamp partition as is?

Yeap, Correct! Thanks to the 30meg download speed, downloaded and installed in 65 minutes. Sweet!

  • Will Lion install correctly handle multiple accounts from Snow Leopard?

Will Lion install correctly handle multiple accounts from Snow Leopard? Will current settings, DOCS etc be carried over?

I found the solution to my problem after I upgraded and it lies with the X509 Anchors.
SOLUTION:  Go to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security-common.plist (it may be a hidden file) and change it to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.security-common.plist.bak.  This should remove the system calling to old outdated anchors and allow it to use the new security protocols under Lion's sandboxing feature.
It worked for me and mail runs fine.

  • Will reinstalling OS X Tiger remove my windows bootcamp partition?

The header is all I want to know guys, im reinstalling OS X due to some probs with CrossOver and I just wanted to know what will happen to my windows bootcamp partition.
    Thanks in advance.

When you go to reinstall OS X, it will pull up the HD and ask you where to install it and you get to choose the partition. It will leave the Windows partition alone.
Now, if you choose to do a complete erase and install and instruct Disk Utility to erase the hard drive and remove all partitions - it will do just that.

  • Will update 10.10.1 mess up my BootCamp partition?

When upgrading to Yosemite (10.10), my BootCamp partition was messed up and I had to reinstall BootCamp completely. Many people had this issue as well. Does anyone know or has anyone tried updating to Yosemite (10.10.1) from Yosemite (10.10) with a BootCamp and if so, does your BootCamp partition run fine?
I just don't want to go through that hassle once again of reinstall Windows and all of my work in Windows. Any response will be appreciated. Thank you.

I upgraded my Mac from 10.10 Yosemite to 10.10.1 Yosemite, with a BootCamp partition running Windows 7. So far, I have encountered no errors on my partition.
    Good Luck.

  • Will Lion Install Consume a lot of Disk Space in my Time Capsule?

I have a 500 GB iMac which is about 2/3 full and a 1T Time Capsule which is a little over half full.  I'm getting ready to install Lion.  As far as by backups go, is this just another backup or will it consume a much bigger part of my TC since it is a major upgrade?
Should I just upgrade and not worry about disk space?

After installing Lion TM will then backup all the new system files which can amount to about 6-8 GBs.

  • Will Lion work with Lightroom 3 or 4? Partition to keep 10.6.8 OS?

Just received my new MBP (not retina) with Lion. It's a base model in which I will be  swapping out the HD & RAM for: Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST750LX003 AND: Corsair 16GB Dual Channel DDR3 SODIMM Memory Kit.
I'd wanted to use Lightroom to learn work with RAW images on an upcoming trip, but now realize it likely isn't compatible with the new OS--Am I right? Is Aperature pretty much the only alternative?
OTOH, since there are 2-3 programs I'd like access to which I know won't work well with Lion--iWeb, Solitaire Till Dawn...I was wondering if it would make sense to partition off part of the 750GB drive to keep a copy of 10.6.8, on which I'm pretty sure both LR 3 & 4 would work.
    Thoughts on this?
    Thanks,
    Karen

  • Bootcamp lion installed win7 not loading

lion installed.... i used bootcamp to install win 7 and screen went blank.waited hour then shut off comp
it went into safe mode start up i let it start normal and then the screen just goes black how can i get this back to lion
and how can i get the disk out of the comp

To switch back to Lion, simply hold the option key when your mac starts. Then you can choose the disk/partition with OS X to boot from.
You could try a repair install of windows 7, do the above, but with the Windows 7 disc in the drive. Then boot from it and run the repair option.
If you want to remove Windows 7 completly you can start up from the OS X recovery partition using cmd+r at boot up. You can then access disk utility and delete the partition for windows.

my apologies. i put in the snow leopard disk and it began with the install. (assuming pushing install also constitutes a re-install/repair) after 30 minutes or so. it said the install would continue after a restart. It then boot from the disk. The problem was that when is asked which disk to install on Macintosh HD or my Bootcamp partition and i said Macintosh HD it would inform me after 5 seconds that the the contents could not be modified and that snow leopard would not be installed.
And if you mean repair disk as in run disk utility from the disk, for some reason i could only verify disk, the repair option was grayed out.

  • I used bootcamp assistant to partition my hard drive to install windows.  When I got to the part to install windows, I selected the bootcamp partition and then choose format as instructed but it would not continue stating that the partition was in GPT par

Please help!!  I partitioned my macbook pro hard drive in bootcamp so that I could install windows.  Everything appeared fine until I got to the install part.  I selected the BOOTCAMP partition and then selected format as instucted.  That was it.  The install could not proceed because it says the partion is in the GPT format instead of NTSF.  At this point it erased the "BOOTCAMP" name from the partion but the partion still exists.
I tried to reform by going back on the OS side, in disk utitly, erase and format.  It will not allow me to select NSTF format.
What do I do to fix this??
    Thanks for you comments.
    Kristina

In Boot Camp Assistant when you select the format option the Boot Camp partition it automatically formats the Boot Camp partition as NTFS since this is what Windows requires. There is no option to select NTFS or any other format type.

  • Will removing M.L and going back to S.L destroy my Bootcamp partition?

    Hi guys,
Just a quick question if I may.
I currently have Mountain Lion installed on my machine with a Bootcamp 4 partition. I would like to revert back to my original Snow Leopard OS as I just find that (for me) a better OS to use, but I am worried that it will not detect my Windows 7 Bootcamp partition.
Is it safe to reinstall Snow Leopard on start up, using disk utility to wipe the ML OS and then to reinstall SL?
I just don't want to lose my Bootcamp, LOL.
    Cheers
    iMac 2011 8GB

Yes - it's safe to do, assuming you know what you're doing.
Make sure you only "Erase" your Mountain Lion partition - don't make the mistake of repartitioning your whole HDD. When installing SL, make sure you select the correct partition - don't overwrite the Bootcamp partition.
Once you've installed SL, you'll be able to hold down the option key at reboot to see your Windows 7 partition.
When messing around with partitions, its always a good idea to backup your whole HDD before you do anything.

  • Can't install ubuntu with wubi on Bootcamp partition

    Hi,
with Wubi you can install ubuntu linux inside a Windows partition without any kind of disk partitioning.
Here https://discussions.apple.com/message/15115515#15115515 you can see that someone installed successfully ubuntu through wubi on bootcamp partition. I tried too but when I choose in what partition want to install ubuntu, have only the D: drive (Macintosh HD) option. Wubi can only be installed in C: (bootcamp), in fact when I tried to install on D: I got obiviously some error.
Windows version is 7 Professional 64 bit, bootcamp version 3.3
    Thank you in advance!

  • TS2986 I installed Snow Leopard, upgraded it to OS X 10.6.8, paid for and spent the hours necessary to download Lion, but Lion will not install.  Even though it says the requirements are 10.6.6 or greater, when I try to install, it says I need 10.7.

I installed Snow Leopard, upgraded it to OS X 10.6.8, paid for and spent the hours necessary to download Lion, but Lion will not install.  Even though it says the requirements are 10.6.6 or greater, when I try to install, I get a message saying I need 10.7. to install Lion.  What should I do?

    Hi..
Make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements.
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
OSX v10.6.6 or later (V10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available spare
From here > Apple - OS X Lion - Technical specifications
If your Mac meets the requirements, installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo reinstalls the App Store for you which may help.
Restart your Mac after instaling the combo installed. It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.6.8.
If you have anti virus software installed, you may need to disable that in order to install Lion.

  • Lion will not install on a January 2008 Mac Pro (3.1)

I have a January 2008 Mac Pro (version 3.1) and I'm trying to install Lion on one of the hard drives in the main chassis. It has consistently failed.
    I have tried:
    Reseating memory
    Reseathing hard drives
    Zap PRAM
    Reset SMC
Downloaded 4 fresh copies of Lion from the App Store
    Install from the installer file
Install from a DVD made with InstallESD.DMG
    Yet, it fails consistently.
I have 5 log files I'm willing to share, but they almost always look like this one. Some of them fail on different pkg's, but in general, this one seems to be the most regular failure. It's like the filesystem just dies in the middle of the install.
Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

    I figured out the problem.
This is going to sound a little crazy, but I've spent a lot of time on this one.
There's some kind of incompatibility with Lion and Seagate ST31000340AS drives. I was trying to install Lion on these drives and it would consistently fail. I've also tried to use these drives in a RAID volume. No go. I tried three different drives of this model. All of them failed.
I tried to install Lion on a Seagate ST31000528AS and it worked first time and sings beautifully.

Need to know your Mac model. If it's a PowerPC, the max OS is Leopard 10.5.x. If it's an Intel procesor, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (for $29) & later to Lion.

  • Does MBA's Lion Recovery require Apple ID when re-installing OS?

If you bought Lion via Mac App Store, and you want to re-install it using Lion Recovery mode, IT DOES require Apple ID to certificate your purchase history. This is the case when you bought Lion separated from your Mac.
However, I'm just curious the case of purchasing Mac with Lion installed by default, just like MacBook Air-2011.
When you want to re-install Lion on your MacBook Air, which came with Lion, using Lion Recovery mode, does it require you to enter your Apple ID to download install files from a server?
I heard, in terms of iLife, when you buy a new Mac now, it asks you your Apple ID on the first start-up and it registers iLife-iMovie,iPhoto,Garageband- to your Mac App Store account's "Purchase History" so you can re-install iLife whenever you want from MAS.
If, Lion goes for the same with the case of iLife, how can I sell my MacBook Air to another person? There's no way I let the buyer use my Apple ID.
iLife-less MacBook Air will do the job but without OS? I can't sell it to another person because OS is a fundamental.
Any experience? Oh, btw, I haven'y bough any Mac with Lion installed by default, which is the reason I'm curious how things work.

Could you tell me more about "one time transfer?" Did you use it as a legal term or a technical term? If it is a technical term, is there a way to transfer my purchase(s) to another person?
It is merely quoted from the Lion SLA (software license agreement) which you can view/download here:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/
    Excerpt:
    3. Transfer.
    A. If you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled on Apple-branded hardware, you may make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software (in its original form as provided by Apple) to another party, provided that: the Apple Software is transferred together with your Apple-branded hardware; (ii) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, printed materials and this License; (iii) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (iv) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. For purposes of this License, if Apple provides an update (e.g., version 10.7 to 10.7.1) to the Apple Software, the update is considered part of the Apple Software and may not be transferred separately from the pre-update version of the Apple Software.
    B. If you obtained your license to the Apple Software from the Mac App Store or on Apple-branded physical media, it is not transferable. If you sell your Apple-branded hardware to a third party, you must remove the Apple Software from the Apple-branded hardware before doing so, and you may restore your system to the version of the Apple operating system software that originally came with your Apple hardware (the “Original Apple OS”) and permanently transfer the Original Apple OS together with your Apple hardware, provided that: the transfer must include all of the Original Apple OS, including all its component parts, printed materials and its license; (ii) you do not retain any copies of the Original Apple OS, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (iii) the party receiving the Original Apple OS reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of the Original Apple OS license.
